This hotel is a charming 250 year old house built by a Spaniard. Our room, #6, was lovely, spacious and clean. The parents of the young man, who bought the building and converted it, run the hotel and they are very kind and caring hosts. The first evening we arrived, we headed out to a local restaurant for an early bite. (La Caponata- vegetarian Italian. We had eggplant pizza and soups and they were delicious.) Oswaldo walked us to the restaurant. Our bed was comfy. The whole staff are hard workers! They prepare breakfast, clean the rooms daily and take overall good care of the hotel. The breakfasts were very good. My favorite was all the delicious fresh fruit and a different juice smoothie daily. And though the coffee looked very dark and scary, by the time I added a little milk it was some of the best I've had. We'd read you have to be a little careful after dark on the streets of Quito. The hotel hosts told us the same and what to watch out for. We felt very safe in the hotel. You have to buzz to get in and they know who is there at all times. Pretty sure it would be safe to leave your door unlocked there.

Friendly, helpful, well-managed
We stayed at Hotel Basilica in mid-February. Its a lovely hotel,well-located and I highly recommend it. Maria, the manager and her staff were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. We are looking forward to a return visit. Maria also had excellent recommendations for touristing and restaurants.
Highly recommend staying at La Basilica
We spent a wonderful three nights at La Basilica, which is well managed and well located in the historic district of Quito. We arranged transportation from the airport before we arrived in Quito, and Maria, was very efficient in arranging transportation to the airport.
Best place to stay in Quito Historic Center
Perfect stay in Quito! Walking distance to Cathedral square, Basilica and all other min attractions in Historic Center. The hotel is immaculate, delicious breakfast served in the main covered patio. Beautiful ambiance and excellent service.

They sent a driver to pick us up at the airport ($30) and could not have been more welcoming when we arrived. The lobby was SO beautiful and the staff was so warm and kind. We communicated easily through a Google translate app.
Our room was exactly as shown on the website with a beautiful mural and a charming, carved bed. The bed was strewn with rose petals and there was a towel sculpture, like those on cruise ships! There was also a bouquet of roses.
We were given a tour of the property. WOW! So pretty. The views from the rooftop were spectacular (see the photos).
Breakfast was served in the beautiful lobby and was terrific: a gorgeous plate of fresh fruit, scrambled eggs with bits of ham, a wonderful roll stuffed with something like ricotta cheese, and very good coffee.
When we asked for a dinner suggestion a staff member walked us about a block to a restaurant. We easily walked to the basilica and the main plaza.
When we left the proprietor hugged us and gave us sweet little bracelets. I would stay there again in a heartbeat!

The hotel is extremely clean and fresh. Beautifully decorated with fresh petals. The lady in charge of the hotel, Marian Patricia, is the warmest host ever, she is attentive and handles all requests with warmth and a smile. Her husband Osvaldo is alse very gentle and kind. The hotel location is perfect in the old town, very close to the basilica, the main squares, restaurants and places of interest. Breakfast also very good and fresh.

The Hotel Basilica in Quito is a gem. Built around an historic courtyard, where breakfast is served, it functions more like a European inn than a typical United States hotel. The hotel is ideally located in Old Quito. Highly recommend.
Maria and her staff treat everyone like family, which is made possible by the small number of rooms and the community encouraged by the courtyard architecture.
Our room, the La Basilica room, overlooked the street, which was relatively quiet at night. The room was beautifully historic with a timbered ceiling and original flooring, varnished to a brilliant shine. The furnishings were of high quality. Bottled water was provided.
Breakfast was wholesome and delicious, with freshly prepared juice, fruit, and eggs, along with bread and excellent coffee.
Because of the home-like atmosphere, there are some house rules which one would not find in a conventional hotel, including no eating in your room, no laundry in the sink (the hotel has laundry facilities), no outside guests. Alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are available for sale, cash only. These rules seemed completely reasonable to me and did not bother me at all.
We took one of the hotel's tours to the Cotopaxi volcano. It was excellent, and I can share a few details that are not given in the description on the hotel website. A driver will pick you up at the hotel and drive you to the National Park headquarters. There, you will meet your official National Park guide (with a National Park driver), who will drive you into the park, pointing out various things in the landscape, and eventually up the volcano to a very high parking area from which you will hike about an hour up to the Jose Rivas Refuge, a hikers' cafeteria and way station. Altitude almost 16,000 feet! It would be possible to opt out of any of this experience if you felt ill because of the altitude. After descending the volcano, meeting up with your driver again at the National Park headquarters, it is an option to go out for lunch at your expense or return directly to the hotel, which is what we did.

This quaint, historical hotel is superbly managed by Mirjam and staff. The room and adjoining facilities were spotless, there was good WI-FI, and the breakfasts were very adequate. It’s a convenient walk to Old Town attractions and Mirjam/staff was readily available with comments and suggestions for activities (plan to use Google Translate if not conversant in Spanish). There was adequate police presence throughout the area to enhance tourist safety. We experienced no safety concerns in Old Town. As always, tourists should practice “big city” safety awareness.

Hotel Basilica is a well run, spotlessly clean boutique hotel in the heart of Old Town Quito. Perfectly placed half way between the gorgeous basilica on the hill (short walk uphill), and the Presidential square area (short walk downhill). It is near restaurants, shopping, historic sites, many gorgeous churches, bakeries, chocolate shops and coffee shops. The location cannot be beat in my opinion.
They arranged a punctual pick up at the airport for us. We got in late when restaurants were closed, so the driver kindly suggested we purchased food at the airport and offered to let us eat in the car.
The rooms are lovely and spacious. Water pressure was great in the shower, toiletries and hair dryers in the rooms, and a safe large enough to fit what we wanted locked.
There is a hot breakfast every morning served in the inner courtyard. They start with a fresh fruit bowl and fantastic coffee. The menu rotated, but included some type of eggs, breads or pastries, ham, cheese, etc. A perfect relaxed breakfast before heading out. The security is good. You are buzzed in and out of the hotel. This is a standard practice with many places in Quito, even coffee shops.
The staff was fantastic. Very polite, the server at breakfast spoke multiple languages including perfect English. The owner used a translation app for anything she struggled to tell us. She was full of knowledge of the area, suggesting times to visit various places to avoid crowds, or to get the best lighting in the Basílica windows (early morning). There were restaurants within a block of the hotel we really enjoyed that were recommended by the owner.
In summary, the hotel rooms and amenities were lovely, the staff excellent, and the location perfect.

It’s the warm welcome, proximity to attractions and a great wine cellar which made our decision to return quite easy. Attractions that are within walking distance include the Basílica , Grand Square, Presidents Palace and of course restaurants with delicious food. There is no need to feel worried about your safety at night venturing to restaurants as someone from the hotel will escort you. The host is very friendly, knowledgeable & helpful. Having a laundry where you can drop your washing for a reasonable price was invaluable . Overall highly recommended .

The breakfast was fresh fruit, pastries, and eggs any you want them. The hotel was located midway between the biggest plazas and 3 blocks from the national cathedral in the center of the old city. Good restaurants were within walking distance.
