We have visited this hotel many times over the last twenty years and love the very special atmosphere. In the past two or three years there has been a great deal of renovation work carried out and the suite we occupied was a real treat. Warm and comfortable, very fresh and clean but with the historic character of the building remaining intact.
The food offering has improved beyond measure and we enjoyed several evening meals and breakfasts in the dining room or bar. I would especially like to thank Rogelio, who worked in the dining room for his friendly and helpful service.
One plea to management, Please don't get rid of the historic waterfall in the dining room. It's been the backdrop to so many special occasions and is an integral part of what makes this hotel so unique and wonderful.

Beautiful Hotel and amazing experience
Everything at this hotel was just perfection. Our stay was in December so the decor was exceptional. All the little extras were great, from the free shuttle in town to the robes we could use at the hot springs. Shout out to Thomas & Dane for going above and beyond....

This hotel is definitely has an interesting history but it really just feels old. Our room was an average size and the bed was comfortable and it felt clean but as many have said the bathroom is very small. We did not have any issues with hot water and the window air conditioner kept the room cool but was quite noisy. It is in a great location.
I think that you can't be taken in by the notion of it's history alone, the hotel is really mainly just old so you have to be OK with that. I can't say that I would recommend it but we enjoyed our time here.

Stayed at Hotel Colorado during the Rocky Mountaineer Red Rock to Rockies train ride from Moab to Denver. This hotel is a dump and in desperate need of an up grade. There is no gym. The rooms are dated. The bathrooms old. The price to stay here is an overcharge for what you get. If they want to keep original decor it should be reflected in the price. Or start plowing those profits into an update of the hotel.

Only giving one star ‘cause zero wasn’t an option.
This historic hotel is crying out for a major renovation. For the insane room rates they charge, guests deserve better than a pathetically out of date bathroom (light switch behind the door, NO vanity space or other horizontal surface to set your toothbrush on), meager water pressure in the showers, barely warm water) and noisy window air conditioners.
When you see the hotel from the outside, it gives you the expectation of grandeur. Your hopes will be dashed when you enter your room. Other reviewers talk about nasty customer service and hazardous or unsafe conditions. I didn’t stick around long enough to discover these issues.
Just stay away.

We stayed here while on our Rockies to the Red Rocks Rocky Mountaineer trip. This is an historic old hotel, which opened in 1892. It was an extremely interesting hotel with comfortable rooms. We would definitely stay here again if we visit Glenwood Springs.
Cold water, hot room, very poor value
I expect 3 things from a hotel stay: A clean room, a hot shower and an environment that allows for a good night’s sleep. The room appeared to be clean but the shower was cold every single day, regardless of timing and the room was stiflingly warm. We paid $500/night...
I expect 3 things from a hotel stay:
A clean room, a hot shower and an environment that allows for a good night’s sleep. The room appeared to be clean but the shower was cold every single day, regardless of timing and the room was stiflingly warm. We paid $500/night our last night and although the rate was less the other two nights, the stay was definitely not worth a fraction of the cost.
I could add detail about many other small issues that added up to a poor experience, but instead I will summarize: I wouldn’t stay here again.
The pros: ceiling fan, light bedding, water in the lobby, location, relatively quiet
The cons: cold water, hot room, bathroom configuration, service
As I was leaving, I was asked how my stay had been. When I mentioned the cold water and hot room, the response was “ Oh that’s too bad.”

We occasionally like to stay in these older historic places just for the ambience. This is the third Teddy Roosevelt stayed here hotel (Menger, Copper Queen) , so we are used to the drawbacks. There is nothing wrong with this place that several million dollars of restoration wouldn't fix. It needs to be bought up by some elegant hotel chain, but then I would never be able to afford to stay here. We enjoyed our stay. Very good location, right across the street from the Hot Springs Pool and just a short walk to the downtown area with nice restaurants and shops. Plus you can be on the highways in a minute or two. The Lobby is worth seeing and the walls are full of old pictures and memorablila. We spent little time in the room as we were out doing things most of the time. Convenient place to come back to. We had no problems with the desk clerks, they handled all our questions with courtesy. We did see several guests who were too good to stay there and didn't mind letting these poor employees know it.

Check-in: we arrived early and were hoping to get a early check-in, unfortunately, the hotel was sold out the night before and we could only check-in 30 minutes early. We completely understood. Check-in was fast and efficient. We received hotel history information which was very interesting.
In the lobby there is a small coffee shop and has great breakfast items and coffee. The lobby is beautiful and has several setting areas to relax and have coffee or drinks from the bar.
The bar is amazing and have the best Bloody Mary’s! A lot of seating and the girl working when we were there was very nice. You can also order food and eat there.
Room: We were in room 341, which is a Premier Parlor Suite. This room is on the corner and overlooks the hot spring pools and the Highway, needless to say, it is not a quite suite. The rooms have window units and they go on and off constantly, thank goodness the weather was cool, so we turned them off. There is a ceiling fan and we loved it! It kept the air moving. The closet is a good size, but there is no lighting, so it was pretty dark. There was a small battery operated round light that was stuck to the wall but the batteries were dead, or there was none in the device. The bed was nice and comfortable, so no complaints. The “parlor”….. was just a room with a couch, a couple chairs a tv, etc. I don’t know how to put it other than it was a drab room. There could be so much done to make it inviting.
The bathroom, do not expect any counter space as there is none. It is a small pedestal sink with a small glass shelf about
12”x 2”. There is a bench which makes no sense to me. They should instead put a make-up counter so people can have a space to place their toiletries, there is no place to put them. Our bathroom window was broken and would not close and was open about two inch’s. We had a bumblebee enter through the space and had no choice but kill it, as it was not in a good mood and we didn’t want to take a chance of getting stung. Our toilet paper holder was broken and it was obvious when housekeeping cleaned, yet it wasn’t fixed the 3 days we were there. Nice robes.
Housekeeping: I do everything I can to make it easier for housekeeping to get in and out as I know they have many rooms to service. I pick up all trash and place in the wastebaskets. I leave all towels on the bathtub and I always leave a tip. The first day we left our room about noon. Housekeeping was a couple doors down we advised them our room was empty. We came back about three hours later. We walked walked in And I thought, they haven’t cleaned our room yet. Actually, they did “somewhat”. Our bed was made, but the extra blanket we had on the bed was as though it wasn’t touched. (Picture in pictures). All our towels were replaced, but our sink was not cleaned, nor was anything wiped down, therefore, I assume the floor was not moped or vacuumed. Our ice bucket was not touched and water was still in it and no new bag. We noticed for two days there was a glass setting on the floor outside a room two doors down. It actually became a joke after the 2nd day.. Our last night we ordered room service and I have to say, it was the best steak sandwich I’ve ever eaten! But, the flatbread, not so much. Most room service is brought on a tray with silverware, etc, when it was delivered, it was brought in a paper grocery bag, I kid you not! I couldn’t believe it!
Someone needs to buy this beautiful old historic hotel and update it. As for us, we would not stay here again.

We stayed here only one night, but made the most of the town. This historic hotel gives you all of the feels. This stately 1893 luxurious hotel is a stunner. We had a king bed suite with a large sitting room. Delicious coffee selections in room, but no fridge. It was the end of April but the rooms were warm. There is no AC unit we could find or access to making the room cooler. Therefore we opened the windows - but the highway & semis can be quite loud. There is free parking right in front, which the staff pointed us to. It is within walking distance to the hot springs pool and the downtown scene. The hallways are extremely large and even have desks & grand furniture everywhere. The lobby is opulent and cozy - with a roaring fire to boot. We would definitely stay here again but worry about the summer heat in the rooms. The bathrooms are quite small, but again the authenticity would be lost in a total remodel. Epic guests were Teddy Roosevelt and the "unsinkable" Molly Brown.

Horrible Customer Service - Stay Away!
If I could give zero stars, I would. Our stay at Hotel Colorado has been a complete nightmare.
We've had to deal with kids stomping above us all day and night it sounds like they are just jumping off their beds into the floors and doing cartwheels. After multiple complaints to the front desk, nothing was done. Instead of offering any kind of solution, the woman working the front desk on Saturday, 3/29/25, at 8:30 AM was smug, dismissive, and completely unhelpful.
Her response? She told us we could leave and that we had to be out by 11 AM. That's their version of "customer service." Rather than addressing the issue or even pretending to care, they told us to basically leave before 11. Foolish us for expecting a basic level of comfort.
This has been the worst hotel experience l've ever had. Save yourself the frustration and stay somewhere that actually values its guests!
