Honeymooners at the Hideaway at the Royalton Negril enjoyed a very pleasant stay, with spacious rooms and friendly staff. The food was good, and the daily grill by the pool serving jerk chicken was a particular highlight. The catamaran cruise for snorkeling and a trip to Rick's Cafe arranged by Nexus Tours was highly enjoyable. The Diamond Club service was exceptional, with butlers Susan and Kemar going above and beyond to ensure guests had everything they needed. The fitness program, including yoga and aquafit, was top-notch and the spa services, such as massages and hydrotherapy pool, were extremely enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed 7 nights at the Hideaway and we had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was spacious and nice, and the staff was very friendly. However, there are several things, both pro and con, that I will point out for those considering a visit. First of all, this is a Marriott property. For those who are members of Marriott Bonvoy, be sure to search for/ask to meet the Bonvoy team. They are Kimone, Kendra, Chad and Valerie, who are very nice and very helpful. You can be in contact with them through What's App, and they will help you navigate the resort and many times help make meal reservations. Speaking of Marriott, the site mentioned that there was a 10% discount in the gift shop for Bonvoy members, but when we inquired we were told that there was no such discount. This should probably be clarified by the resort. As for meals, the food everywhere was good and some very good, but I wouldn't say exceptional. The buffet had copious amounts of food, and we enjoyed all of the restaurants on the property where we ate. The restaurants open at 6 pm and close at 10 pm. It is a little tricky to make reservations - they are done on the Royalton app. If you need help, there is someone available in front of the entrance to the buffet. It is not easy to always get the restaurant and time you want, but we were told that many times you can show up and they can seat you because of no shows or last minute cancellations. Also, we really enjoyed the Calypso restaurant; however, it was closed on two different evenings while we were there. Be sure to check the restaurant schedule as others 'take turns' being closed too. The schedule is posted in the area in front of the main entrance to the buffet. There is a small outdoor bistro, Ocean Point, which is actually at the Grand Lido next door. It is a very nice place to eat either a leisurely breakfast or dinner. Worth a visit just to have a happy hour drink and watch the sun set, if nothing else. It is just a few minutes walk from the Hideaway. One extra bonus was that there was a grill set up near the Hideaway pool every day, with someone cooking up jerk chicken during lunch hours. This was an appreciated extra perk, and the chicken always tasted great. Since we stayed at the adults only Hideaway, we assumed there would be a little more of a night life. Instead, the bar closed promptly at 10 pm, and everything went dark. That is just a little on the early side. It would also be wonderful if there were a hot tub, and there appears to be plenty of room where one could be installed. I would highly recommend that to be considered by the property. Interestingly, there was more activity and the bars were opened later in the larger property where ironically many families/children stay. I would bring a little more of that later activity to the Hideaway, at the very least for another hour or so. The main Royalton lobby is very nice, where the ice cream shop/coffee bar is located. The coffee is a little better there than what they serve at the buffet. There is also a small gaming spot in the hallway for anyone wishing to play some slots. It is worth noting that there is NO restroom in the main Royalton lobby! This was surprising to me. Most people are arriving from an hour and a half drive from Montego Bay, and this is something that should be much more accessible. Instead, you must walk down the hall across from the sports bar to get to it. Surely, the hotel can locate a restroom a little more conveniently, especially for those newly arrived. There is a very nice spa on the property. My husband and I both scheduled massages, which were very enjoyable. We also took advantage of the indoor hot tub there and the hydrotherapy pool. I would recommend having a service at the spa. Be sure to check the spa desk in front of the buffet entrance for daily specials before booking. The very best part of our trip was the catamaran cruise for snorkeling and trip to Rick's Cafe. It was arranged by Nexus Tours, which has a location off the lobby. It was very reasonable and a LOT of fun, with music and rum punch on board. I would highly recommend doing this while there. We also made our own arrangements to go to Booby Cay, the small island you can see from Ocean View, and it was not as enjoyable. If you want to go, I would probably ask Nexus about it, as they will coordinate it better and it may even include lunch. When we arrived, we were told that the fresh lobster they were grilling was $40, which we had not planned on and for which we didn't have enough money on hand. There was no bargaining on this :) I'm also not sure that we were taken to the best snorkeling spot. I think it might be best to go on a planned excursion if there is interest in doing this. Overall, we had a nice stay at the Royalton and enjoyed our week in the wonderful Jamaican sun.

We just returned from another incredible stay at Hideaway at Royalton Negril, and this was probably our best experience yet! The Diamond Club service was exceptional, and we can’t say enough good things about the amazing staff who made our trip so special. A huge shoutout to Susan and Kemar, our Diamond Club butlers, who were incredibly friendly, responsive, and always went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed. Their warmth and attention to detail truly elevated our stay. When we had a small issue on March 4th, Marlene, the night manager, stepped in and handled everything with professionalism and care—her help was greatly appreciated. The pool bar at the Hideaway was one of our favorite spots, thanks to Chana, who makes the most incredible espresso martinis—absolute perfection! Our Culinary Experience dinner was beyond fantastic, thanks to Kevin and Oshane, who delivered impeccable service and a truly memorable meal. Beyond these standouts, we are grateful for the entire staff, who always seemed genuinely pleased to help and delivered service with some beautiful smiles. Their warmth and hospitality keep us coming back time and time again. If you’re looking for a luxurious, relaxing, and welcoming escape in Jamaica, Hideaway at Royalton Negril is the place to be. Can’t wait for our next visit! Thanks to all!

The honeymoon we could only have dreamt of. The food has been amazing every night at all restaurants and the staff have been so friendly and helpful our whole trip. We went for the diamond club in the hideaway as it was our honeymoon and our butlers (Susan and Kemar) were absolutely amazing. If we had an issue it was sorted before we knew it and they added some lovely touches to our room along the way which was so kind of them. Our room was incredible. We stayed in a swim up in the diamond club in the hideaway and it was a stunning view every morning with the sunrise and being able to get into the swim up was lovely when it was quite hot in the day. We are English so we are not as used to the tipping culture as people from the US so a word of warning to anyone who is coming, make sure you bring lots of $1 or 100 Jamaican dollar notes. People will tip $1 or $200 jmd for a drink each time they have a drink and about $5 or $1000 jmd for dinner…just make sure you don’t assume all inclusive means you won’t spend in the hotel! Speaking of which…the hotel shop costs an absolute fortune. If you want to snorkel then I’d strongly advise buying one at home unless you want to spend $115 on 2 snorkels! Overall the hotel was 10/10. I would recommend this to anyone who asks. Thank you for making our honeymoon something we could only have dreamt of (especially Susan and Kemar) 🩷

We stayed at the hideaway at the end of Feb 2025. Diamond club, swim out room with butler service. Pros - The staff are amazing and very friendly, from the ground workers to the restaurant staff. Dwight and Okeen our butlers absolutely surpassed our expectations, especially never having butler service on our holidays before. They kept in touch every day, sometimes seeking us out on the beach to make sure we had everything we need. They noticed me drinking a singlemalt and put a very nice bottle in our room. They are a credit to the Royalton. The hide away beach is small and pleasant, you get bar service throughout the day. The pool is nice and swim up bar is well used by the pool goers, we preferred the beach just because its more chill. The vibe team work hard around the resort and have all kinds of games, quizzes, djs for those round the pool. The food has been excellent, from the buffet to the various restaurants around the resort, we tried them all. Booking is easy through your phone app or TV, the butlers also offer to book restaurants for you. My favourite for breakfast was ocean point, lunch was the sports bar and dinner was at Dorado and Zen. Our room got attended to each day, the room was perfect, everything worked, the mini bar was well stocked with what we wanted. Cons Occasionally ran out of various drinks in the afternoon, one day they ran out of beer, though I definitely contributed to the shortage. Was rectified later in the day. They could and should be much stricter with people putting towels out to reserve sunbeds early in the morning and leaving them after they have left. If people didn't reserve and leave towels their would be loads of free beds all day for people to use. Some tips Don't bother booking Excursions before you get to the hotel, the deals are much better on the resort. The lobby bar in the main hotel is quieter and a good place to get a drink in the evening before your or after your dinner. The lobby bar in the hideaway section has the good spirits ! Take loads of 1 dollars, tip the bar and waiting on staff, they work hard and it makes a huge difference. Be aware of the nude beach if you walk along the beach off the resort, my eyes ! Souvenirs much cheaper by the blue huts down the beach but be prepared for some haggling, all friendly enough ! Bob Marleys Miami vices Are the go to cocktails when it's warm ! Special shout out to Wilton! Friendly staff member who seems to have about 20 different jobs. Thank you for a great holiday :)

Absolutely stunning place . We stayed for 11 nights and had a swim up room of which was perfect as my mobility isn’t great . Everywhere was easily accessible . Everyone ( except girl on information desk !) was lovely . Couldn’t do enough for you . Special thanks to Kairo from the vibe team for looking out for me . He has a wonderful voice and needs his own spot in the evening . Also special thanks to Chana and Nixon at the pool bar. Fabulous people and always smiling . I have to mention Hot Rod !! Such a nice guy and made us all laugh when he played and sung . Food was fabulous , so much choice . I am vegetarian and there was so much to choose from. There was also a resident Pelican who landed in the pool and apparently this was a regular occurrence ! I would say the swim up room was definitely worth the extra money . I got 2 hours of sunshine in the morning and then the terrace was in the shade but this suited us. Loved everything about this place . Would love to return one day

Only great things to say about this Resort. From the Staff to the Service was impeccable. There was one Staff member that stood out going above Her Job, Nicole D. It wasn't just us she helped out but there was a women not even dinning at Dorado and Nicole seen she needed assistance while waiting for a ride and Nicole took a chair from the Restaurant for the women to sit on while waiting for a Golf Cart to pick her up. Can't leave this review without thanking the Manger Fred. Our stay was extended because of the weather back home and the Plane that Flipped on the runway in Toronto. Fred made our extended stay effortless We all had rooms an complete use of the Resorts enmities. I did hear some others horrid stories at different Resorts on how their extended stay was handled. Thankyou Fred and Nicole and the rest of the Staff at the Hideaway Royalton.

Stayed diamond club swim up at this hotel for 2 weeks. Block 9 was just so peaceful. I’ve given a four rating as we had the most amazing time but parts of the hotel do need updating and the ocean point evening service and dorado poor quality food. However strangely ocean point for breakfast was lovely. Great breakfast with beautiful peaceful views of the ocean. The resort itself is kept clean. Diamond is a must as we had the 2 most amazing butlers kemar and Susan. Personally found the service with diamond useful and added to our holiday experience. They always checked in ourselves Drinks at the hideaway pool bar excellent (branded) with the great Nixon who himself added to the mix. Great evenings spent there with great entertainment. Staff were the most loveliest and never had a problem with them. Treat them nicely and respect comes back. We ate at the grazie, hunters, teppenyaki and the main bufffet. Great food and not a complaint. Served hot. Jerk hut is the best for lunch! Overall had a nice time

I’ll start by saying I had a good vacation. The main point of this review is to give you my reasoning for suggesting you find another resort. My wife and I travel frequently to all inclusive resorts and typically travel with 5-6 other couples. This was my 3rd trip to Jamaica, we don’t go to Jamaica as often as some of our group prefers less expensive destinations. This year was our choice. We chose the hideaway at Royalton Negril. The resort is nice. Bloody bay is a great spot however I much preferred being on the other side of the bay at the RIU as it had sun all day. We had a swim up room which we love however you begin losing sun far too early in the day for my liking but certainly not a deal breaker for me. Now is where I get into what was a deal breaker for me. The Jamaican people were the main reason for me choosing this destination. I didn’t have that same kind of experience this time from the staff at the resort. Don’t get me wrong definitely some good people there. The main pool bar ran out of vodka on a daily basis and typically before 2pm. So we mentioned to the bartender that our entire group drinks a lot of vodka so maybe they could stock extra for the next few days. Same thing happened the next day and when we tried to ask about getting some extra brought down we were spoken to in an unacceptable manner. Chalked it up to buddy having a bad day. Same thing happens the next day. I haven’t had a sip at this point so figure I’ll go speak to someone in management to see if they can resolve the supply issue. The proved to be an impossible task. Throughout the course of the week it would be rare for a group of us to order drinks and the bar to not be “out” of something. This was not a gratuity issue. I spent many years working as a server / bartender. We bring hundreds of dollars each to hand out for good service. As the week went on I found it harder and harder to give that money away as I just didn’t feel like service was up to par. In fact the moment you stopped holding money in your hand when ordering a drink was when you really notice the service level drop off. I will say one lady at the bar ( I believe her name was Chana ). She was incredible!! Coffee shop ran out of coffee and milk on different occasions. The restaurants you have to reserve seemed impossible to get into. At least we couldn’t figure it out. This was not a big deal to me but was frustrating for some. The buffet food was very good. However the service at the buffet was not good. Multiple occasions we finished our meal without ever being given a glass of water. If you ordered a drink to have with your meal it was definitely going to arrive long after finishing our meal. Housekeeping staff was the least motivated of any resort I’ve been to. Resort staff was trying to sell us on excursions. We typically will do our own thing when it comes to adventures off resort. We explained to her we wanted to go to ricks cafe but would likely just take a cab there. She tried to sell us on a catamaran cruise to Ricks. We said we were hesitant to do that as they are typically over crowded and have limited bar selections. She assured us this would not be the case. We asked if they would have vodka and beer on the boat and told her it was a deal breaker if not. She assured us it would. We recruited some folks we had met on our stay to join us. We were supposed to leave at 2pm at 12:45 we are walking to the buffet to eat before the trip and they tell us time has changed we are leaving at 1. Which gives us 15 minutes to get ready. Then they take us to an area of the beach to be picked up and taxied out to the catamaran. We get to the beach and the water was BROWN!!! I’m no expert but you couldn’t convince me it wasn’t raw sewage as the water was beautiful and blue as far as the eye could see except this corner of the cove. They wanted us to wade out through it to the taxi. It took convincing to get them to pick us up 50 yards down the beach. We arrive at the catamaran and the boat is packed! There were maybe seats for 4 of our group. Go to the bartender and ask for a beer. No beer. Ok I’ll have vodka please. No vodka. We have dark rum and light rum. Could I have managed? Absolutely. However that is not what we were sold. Luckily the taxi hasn’t left yet so we decided as a group to go back on the taxi and go back to shore. We were given a full refund but this was yet another disappointment. The next day we organized our own trip to Rick’s and had a great day. I had never been to a Royalton property but had always heard positive feedback. So I sent an email providing feedback of my stay thinking this isn’t the norm. I’ve heard nothing in return. I have also since learned there was a strike there in October of 2024. Maybe this is part of the reason for what appeared to be unmotivated employees. I’m not trying to suggest you won’t have a good vacation. But I am suggesting there is far better value out there.

I am reviewing our stay at the Royalton Hideaway resort in Negril, Jamaica for 24 Mar to 31 Mar 2025. We are seasoned travelers having stayed at many 4 and 5 star resorts in Mexico X 4, Dominican Republic X 4, Cuba X 2 and our favorite, Jamaica X 7. We hire a taxi in advance because taking the bus on the 1.5 hour drive usually turns into a 4 hour trip due to people who are too excited to wait to start celebrating. We were met at the Hideaway reception and check-in was very fast because we were alone. This reception area is very personal but don’t expect anything extra except a fruity drink. My wife was not impressed with the bathroom in there which we quickly learned is a resort wide problem. When we were brought to our swim up room we noticed in that short walk several maintenance issues and some garbage. We thought that the jet tub in the middle of the room was odd especially for a swim up room and it looked like it had never been used (we didn’t use it). While putting away our luggage there was a dirty towel in a drawer and the room showed lots of signs of wear/damage. There is a separate toilet room with a sliding door in these rooms. At the bottom of the door there was a lot dried urine spots which my wife picked up on pretty quickly. We only asked to have our room cleaned once during our stay and the urine was not cleaned and an empty can under the sink was missed. I’m going to do the Pros then get to the Cons about our stay at this resort. Pros * Best internet we have ever used. You can use it while walking the beach if you want. * I didn’t get bit by insects there at all and I didn’t see them spraying either. * There is no road noise because it is off the main road. * It’s a large resort with a lot of waterfront so there are tons of waterfront rooms and walking the beach area is great. There are several beaches for all needs. We needed a shaded beach which was easy to find. There were lots of coral areas which was great for snorkeling too. Walks around the beach to the Riu Negril resort were amazing and we always spotted sting rays and many other fish on each walk. * The food was typical for a Jamaican resort, meaning very good. * This resort attaches a disk to your wrist upon arrival instead of a bracelet. This disk doubles as your room key which we had not seen before. We loved not having to worry about losing a room card or it getting demagnetized. * Nicola is a reception desk supervisor and needs a mention as a pro. We were in a large group and she stepped up and got us into the restaurants to eat after many failed attempts. Cons * I take notice of trash on the resort on day one to see if it gets picked up. It didn’t in many areas unless it was obvious. * Maintenance is required absolutely everywhere. Most public bathroom doors would not lock and some would not close. I was locked inside one for 10 minutes and had no way out because the door knob was missing. I was yelling and banging on the door for someone to let me out. I reported this to the desk and was told that it had been reported a couple weeks earlier and they thought it was fixed. I also reported a few other issues and he made an appointment for me to meet with a supervisor the following day so I made a video to show at the meeting. After meeting with the supervisor the door had a new door knob on it. I also took video of other issues that require maintenance and some, like the door knob, are safety issues like busted boards on boardwalk which are obvious tripping hazards. The wooden bridge by our room had several rotted holes on the step boards which are painted black. This bridge is not lit up at night and several times we almost fell because it is very hard to see when trying to find the first step to walk down the bridge. Other maintenance issues are - the escalator broke going up to the main lobby which was fixed after a couple days. They use fiberboard or particle board in many areas and in a highly humid climate these types of boards swell. The furniture in our room was a mess and a lot of door trim was also swelled up and broken. They use subpar materials for their boardwalks and there were tons that were broken and chipped. The Hideaway reception area has a spot on the floor where two of the laminate boards come together but were not fastened to a joist and that’s because there is no joist in that spot. I have video and pictures of all this. * It was a constant battle at the buffet trying to get a bowl, soup spoons and salt and pepper shakers. The staff was mostly curt and not efficient. One day there were no napkins and they said that the laundry wasn’t done yet. * The rooms are all equipped differently. We had one robe, one umbrella and one face cloth. Some rooms had none and some had two of each. The showers had very little pressure and we didn’t have hot water two of the days. They paited the ceiling in the shower and it ran down the wall. * A lot of public toilets did not work and most times there were no paper towels to dry your hands and there are no dryers to use as a backup. * The only way to book for an A La Carte restaurant was to use their app which was never successful so I went to the desk and spoke to Nicola (see Pros). * Smoking/vaping is allowed in all outdoor areas. We preferred our last resort which has designated smoking areas but this worked as well. I was told this resort was built in 2017 but it looks many years older. I spoke to other guests that stayed here a couple times before and they informed me that management changed recently and they see a huge difference and will not be returning. I believe there is a rampant “not my problem” attitude with the staff. I don’t blame the staff because we met many very nice ones but I blame the lack of supervision/management for the many issues we experienced. This was one of the most expensive resorts we have ever stayed at and was near the worst stay ever. Even Cuba was better in most ways and that is not good. The Negril area is our favorite part of Jamaica but we will not be returning to this resort. My heading says “Shut it down” and I strongly believe it is in need of a major overhaul for maintenance and personnel replacements.
