The Hotel Capodimonte is an excellent hotel in a great location, within easy walking distance to Sorrento town. We booked a sea view with a balcony, it was very clean spacious and views made the room worth paying the extra.
We stayed on a half board package, which allows it to be either dinner or lunch. The breakfasts were very good and the three course dinner and the main restaurant was ok, but if we visited again would book bed and breakfast an eat at one of many restaurants in Sorrento. The hotel staff were very helpful, they booked us a taxi back to the airport at €150. Be careful we took a white taxi (recommended in guide book) from the airport to the hotel and driver tried to charge us €250.
The port is a 20-30min walk away and from there you can take various boat trips. A trip by road to Amalfi coast is a must.
Overall this is hotel really is amazing and we would not hesitate to recommend

Capodimonte is a very good hotel. Immaculate inside and out. We originally booked a cheaper room without a view but with a balcony. It looked out onto the cliff behind the hotel. If we were only staying a day so, it would have done, however, as we were staying the whole week we upgraded to a room looking directly at Vesuvius and the city. It was expensive but definitely worth it.
We were on a half board package. The hotel allows it to be either dinner or lunch. The three course dinner and the main restaurant is pretty good. Efficient but slightly formal service with a wide menu choice which changed every two days. A previous reviewer commented that the lighting in the restaurant is over bright in the evening, so it loses what could be a more intimate ambiance.

We had a very lovely stay for our honeymoon. However we had a horrible experience at check out. We departed at 3 am for an international flight and a gentleman at the front desk named Liberato insisted that none of our credit cards worked to settle our bill (4 different cards across 4 different banks that had previously not experienced a single problem in two weeks in Italia).
He would not allow us to leave the property unless we gave him cash. We did not have sufficient euro so he insisted on $80 USD for a €57 bill which is far over the exchange rate. We were exhausted due to the hour and did not want to miss our flight, so we gave him the cash, but we found this to be very corrupt and dishonest. This is not befitting of a 4 star hotel and we will be advising our travel agent to not book other clients at this hotel again.

Don’t stay here. We made the unfortunate decision to stay at the Capodimonte based on their website photos of the sea view. From the minute we arrived it has been a complete let down. The premiere sea view room is anything but premiere and it’s a side sea view. The room is very small with noisy plumbing and paper thin walls so you can hear adjacent room’s conversation. Stain on the headboard of the bed and ceiling stains are disgusting. We have asked twice to move room but just given excuses. The booking manager was supposed to call to discuss but we are still waiting for the call. Even although we booked directly you can’t cancel the remainder of your stay. Very disappointed with this hotel for our stay in Sorrento.

What a great hotel. My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights and couldn't have picked a better hotel. First..the hotel is gorgeous. Situated on a hill overlooking the Bay of Naples, Capodimonte is build into the side of a cliff. Gardens, terraces and cascading pools make the property look like paradise. As for location, you're only about a 5 minute walk to the main area of Sorrento and maybe a 15 minute walk to the port where you can catch a ferry to Capri, Positano, Amalfi...
I can't say enough about the front desk staff. Besides being extremely professional, they went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. They have all the information you could ask for about things to do and places to eat, (including making dinner reservations) and would always greet you with a smile.
We had an issue with our luggage being delayed and the staff at the front desk help us contact the airline and courier service. I wish I could remember their names ( Sorry I'm terrible with that) but the entire staff deserves praise.
A few things to note. The standard rooms are small. We opted to upgrade to a junior suite which was a large room with a king size bed. It also had a good size terrace with a table and two chairs overlooking the bay. Sitting out on the terrace in the morning with an espresso overlooking Sorrento with Vesuvius in the background. What could be better?
One negative I need to mention is the problem with birds during breakfast in the restaurant. Breakfast is buffet style and is served on a large terrace with a canopy. All the sides are open giving the diner a beautiful view of the bay and mountains. The only problem is pigeons are constantly flying onto the terrace landing on tables and picking at leftover food. I even saw one land on one of the buffet tables. Besides being annoying, it also could crate a health hazard. The wait staff tries their best to shoo away the pests, but the birds are very brazen and come right back. Maybe put up a few fake owls to keep them away, but it got really gross eating your meal and having a bird land on your table.
When we return to Sorrento, we will defiantly pay another visit to the Grand Hotel Capodimonte.

Plenty of little hideaways to doze on a sunbed and ladies don't forget the spa. We had a joint massage with two therapists who knew what they were doing and left there feeling revitalised after our day of travelling the day before.
I am sure we shall return to this fantastic hotel in the future.

Lots of choice at breakfast. Evening meal sadly was very limited and bland in taste. We switched evening meal to lunch on half board on last day and wished we had done this sooner as there was better choice. The regrettable thing for us was just how cold the pools are. They were the main reason we booked this hotel, but we couldn’t physically swim in them. We stayed 7 days and barely saw anyone brave the coldness of the pools. They really need to add heating to the pools.

Had a fabulous week at this excellent hotel. The staff are super friendly and helpful and it is in a great location with just a 10 minute walk into Sorrento town. The views of Mount Vesuvius & the Bay of Naples are breathtaking. You couldn’t ask for a better view when sitting in the restaurant for breakfast or dinner. The food at the two restaurants is top notch with a good choice of breakfast buffet and excellent a la carte choices. The restaurant by the swimming pool is very romantic in the evening with spectacular views of Sorrento and the bay at night. The food was so good we rarely ate out in town although there are lots of restaurants there. The cascading swimming pools set this hotel apart & they do not disappoint with the pool restaurant open for drinks/snacks/lunch during the day. The hotel is clean, comfortable and stylishly decorated with a super main terrace with fabulous views across the bay. My partner commented that this is the first time he has stayed in an hotel where the photographs on the website do not do it justice. We enjoyed our stay so much we wished we had booked longer than 7 nights and will definitely return.

Capodimonte offers a grand and memorable experience with a few minor drawbacks. The service at reception is excellent, making for a warm and welcoming start to your stay. The hotel's cleanliness is impeccable, contributing to an overall sense of luxury. The pools are stunning, and the views of the Naples coastline are simply breathtaking, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxation.
Dining at Capodimonte is a highlight, with both of the on-site restaurants offering amazing dinner options that are sure to impress. Breakfast is good, though the busy atmosphere can make it feel a bit like a canteen at times. The service around the pool is generally good, though it can be a little challenging to get the staff's attention, sometimes requiring a walk to the bar.
The hotel has a noticeable number of American guests, some of whom were quite loud. It would be beneficial for the hotel to manage this better to maintain the serene atmosphere.
It would also be beneficial for the hotel to manage the bed situation around the swimming pool - a lot of people reserving beds early in the morning.
Parking is good - feel charge to park is premium perhaps not so good.
Gym is really new and well equipped.
Great amount of lifts to access everywhere.
Overall, Capodimonte is a solid choice for a luxurious stay. However, it's worth noting that some rooms, like 402, might not meet expectations, as it lacks natural light and a view, feeling more cave-like. It’s not an ideal choice for an extended stay, but for a couple of nights, it’s manageable.

Returning to the GHC for the 10th time (regrettably the Covid years stopped our unbroken run)
We think the above says it all.
It is difficult to single out any particular aspect of this oasis of perfection, for indeed the GHC is much greater than the sum of its parts.
For example the staff are without exception kind, friendly and genuinely helpful, there are amazing meals to be taken in the restaurant, with its breathtaking views over the bay of Naples. And the list goes on…….
We would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat, indeed we have already booked for 2025, and for longer to try and make up that missing time.
This is 5 star and then some !

We really love this hotel. The front desk staff were really helpful and spoke English very well. All of the other staff were friendly and helpful as well. The views were the standout for us. We could view the pool and the sea from our room. We had a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us too. Also loved the location - perfect to walk into town. I would say the hotel was a little dated but the pros outweigh that. Breakfast buffet was really good too. Lots to choose from.

We just finished an eight-day stay at GHC. We were in a Premire Room. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend it to others.
1. The hotel is located at the southern end of town, about one kilometer up a slightly sloping hill. You can be in the center square of Sorrento in 15 minutes.
2. The Premier Rooms and those of a higher level come with a patio, table, and chairs that overlook the five cascading pools and have a beautiful view of the city and the coast.
3. There are two main restaurants in the hotel for dinner. Bellevue is outside and is only available by reservation. It is covered by a pergola and has a view of the city and Gulf of Naples. Le Ginestre is inside and has a 180⁰ view through huge windows. Breakfast is held in a third space, Le Querce. It is a covered patio, open in front with a gorgeous view of the town and water.
Lunch at GHC can be found on a terrace overlooking the pools in the Grill Restaurant Bougainvillea. It is directly next to the Apertif Bar L'Agrumento.
We enjoyed the breakfasts (open from 7-10 a.m.) each day. There are a number of different buffet stations available to get a continental breakfast. There is also an omelet and egg station with meat, potatoes, tomatoes, and beans. Bread table in the middle, with a toaster available along the side. Waiters will get you hot beverages.
We did try lunch one day on the terrace. It was not very good. They messed up pizza (in Italy) and a vegetable/mussle soup. We just wanted to stay in one day while at the pool. Maybe other items are better. The service was excellent.
We had dinner at Le Ginestre the first night when we arrived late. The menu was limited, but we tried a Gamberetti and a Ravioli for Primi and the Spigola alla Erbe Di Campo (sea bass) for Secondi. They were cooked perfectly. Service is excellent.
4. There are a lot of spaces to relax around the hotel. On the main level, there is a huge lounge off of the lobby. The Olive Trees Bar is inside the room and opens as the terrace bar is closing down, around 17:00. We loved this space and relaxed here in between our trips to town and other places, as well as for a Limoncello at the end of the night. We did round two of Limoncello on our bedroom terrace. Apparently, we have a Limoncello problem.
There is a smaller TV lounge off the other side of the lobby, with a small station to access the internet and a laser printer.
A few steps down from the lobby below the TV lounge is the entrance to an enormous , multi-level deck with couches, chairs, tables, and umbrellas. There are places to be social or nooks and crannies for more privacy. The deck also has more gorgeous views of the city and water. If you're sensing every place at GHC has a great view, you would be right. Only a few rooms on lower levels do not have views).
5. The Pools. There are five of them, as advertised. They are beautiful and there are chairs everywhere to get your tan on. Bar service is available and very efficient. The water is NOT heated. We were here in early May, and it was cold. Better in the afternoon, but not much (of course, we are from Texas USA, so we are spoiled with hotter water in the Gulf of whatever it is being called these days).
6. Parking is available on site just across the street. We did not have a car.
The hotel is in excellent condition all around. It is well-appointed in every space, and it seems as if they are constantly cleaning. Very helpful front desk staff. They can arrange anything for you. We can't wait for our next trip to Sorrento. It is a fun town to visit and is also convenient as a jumping off spot for Amalfi Coast destinations.

This hotel is located just outside of the main part of Sorrento. It is about a 200 metre walk to get to where the town starts. So, actually quite a good location because it provides the views along with a nice walk to build the appetite and then to walk off the meal. It is a beautiful layout and has various areas that you can enjoy a drink either indoor or outdoor. The grounds are also beautiful including the many layered pool with landscaping all around.
We had an issue with our room but it was resolved satisfactorily by Emanuela and Salvatore. Thank you.
At this time of the year, the AC is not available so they provided a fan we could use in the room. The bathroom had good amenities. The bed was very good. Our only complaint is they did not provide water which I think is essential for a hotel to do.
The breakfast area is beautiful but the selection is not that big. Service is very good.
Probably could have reviewed it as 4.5 stars but the lack of water and small breakfast selection brought it down a bit. I can see myself back at this place. If you have mobility issues it may be a problem because of the location and the various levels.

Grand Hotel Capodimonte is a wonderful place to relax in the grounds, and the perfect base to explore the Amalfi coast from. Every day we enjoyed great views from the breakfast room, or dining room in the evening, across the bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius. The food was a consistently delicious, and a very high standard.
We also enjoyed lunch twice in the hotel's Bougainvillea Terrace bisto, which must be one of the Sorrento's best kept secret, secluded restaurants, with views looking out to sea across the town's rooftops.
Our room was beautiful. Obviously recently redecorated in a contemporary Italian style, with a vibrant mediterranean colours scheme and situated at the back of the hotel looking out to the garden. So nice and quite in the mornings. Housekeeping was always prompt and very thorough, turning the room round to a very high standard.
The hotel was also full of fresh Orchid displays, so the reception and dining room looked stunning at all times of day.
From Grand Hotel Capodimonte it's a short, easy 10 minute walk into the main town, which was perfect for exploring Sorrento's history, cafes and shops. Also with the help of the reception staff we were able to book 3 day trips to explore Capri, the Amalfi Coastline and Pompeii.
The hotel staff, both in the restaurants, reception and housekeeping, were all very helpful and professional. Thanks to all of them for making our stay so lovely, a clear 10/10 experience. We look forward to coming back to the hotel again next year to explore more of the Amalfi coastline.
Grazie mille!
