My wife and I booked the Fairmont Vancouver Downtown location last month to attend a conference in the city. The price was not the most economical but we have stayed there several times and love the location, the Staff, the food, and free parking ( not always ) if you are a Washington state resident. From the hotel, we walked the entire city from Gastown to Yaletown to Stanley Park. Their Concierge Team is incredibly helpful and have their hand on the pulse of the city. They recommended bakeries, restaurants, exhibits, concerts, etc. They even explained how to use the very easy transit system, metro and bus lines. The hotel rooms are squeaky clean with all the amenities you would expect from a world class hotel. And most important for us, it is a great value. Well worth the extra money to enjoy all they have to offer. We will be going back soon !!!

For Fairmont standard few things were missing, shower could be better. Pool area under construction which is understandable but pool wasn’t clean. Also no drinking water in the room when we arrived, I have to go and ask. One night decided to watch TV but had to move a bit, noticed lot of dust behind 🤧. I was told during check in I was given an upgrade to deluxe room but didn’t feel that way😢. I wasn’t offered GOLD level. As a GOLD member room didn’t impress me! I wasn’t even offered to stay in GOLD level.
Nick and team from concierge desk very helpful, thanks! Also Srijan and Brianna from front desk friendly service. When we arrived via uber staff at the door very helpful by opening door for us to the building.
Raluca and Adam from Notch8 amazing service. Raluca even greeted us by saying our name. Went for breakfast twice because of the quality also to bar where we met Adam who was amazing!
When you stay here also try cafe club which closer to Fairmont, amazing food, price and excellent service!

We have been making this trip annually for nearly a decade and we always stay at a Fairmont Hotel, known for their quality, comfort, and great service. The service team are incredible people, always friendly and helpful. I will note that we've been spoiled by the Pacific Rim as that hotel is next level, however we have always been more than happy staying at the Hotel Vancouver, adorn by Gucci, Dior, and other high end stores for perusing, and great food offerings at Notch8, this trip is noticeably different. The health and fitness facilities are closed for renovations (ok great they are updating) but instead of offering vouchers for one of the other area Fairmont hotels (there are a few), they give you passes for the YWCA (thanks but no thanks, this is not an equivalent for the price point). Notch8, a great bar and restaurant with live music at night and beautiful decor, stopped offering their iconic breakfast buffet and replaced it with a simple alacart menu of your typical americana breakfast, eggs Benedict options, standard carb options, and a few misc side items. Nothing near their former offerings and delicacies, and not really customizable. I am also still waiting for the nespresso pods for my in-room coffee maker (yes I asked for them). I actually had to go out and buy my own sleeve from the Nespresso store!
Overall I am very sad to say this has been a big miss for us this stay and if you are staying in the area in the next few months (pre-tourist season) I would recommend a different Fairmont hotel. Not to mention they were also hosting a conference it would seem and the patrons felt the need to roam the halls at 3am making a ton of noise. There is a reason (we found) that the hotel is only at 30% capacity right now and its palatable.
Recommendations to the hotel, if you are updating the hotel, make the bathrooms bigger. There is no way to share that space with 2 people and there is plenty of space in the room to expand.

Poor service & No Exclusivity in this Public Hotel.

Booked 2 nights in a king suite. Living room and bedroom were big but bathroom was absolutely tiny with one small sink and a tiny shower. TV did not work in bedroom and the window shades were missing. Shower pressure was very low. Pool was open but hot tub and spa were all closed and out of action. Check in staff was nice (Diana) but the young ladies hosting the only bar and restaurant on the lobby level were rude and full of attitude. They clearly have no training in customer service. The biggest downside of this hotel is that it feels like Piccadilly Circus with the public everywhere in the hotel, so there is no sense of exclusivity especially when you are paying an arm and a leg to stay in a suite. Next time we visit Vancouver we will stay at the Wedgwood Hotel a block away — smaller boutique hotel that is drenched in luxury, opulence and high end spaces for the same price. Check it out and give Fairmont a pass.
