Out of the hotels I’ve stayed in Texas, particularly in Dallas, this is the best one I’ve experienced so far. The property is clean, safe and made me feel it was worth spending every dollar on. The customer service was fantastic and friendly. However, there’s one particular person I want to really highlight my review on. There’s a gentleman, I believe his name was Derrick or Derrell (my apologies if you’re reading this and I got your name wrong) and he’s one of the top concierge personnels. This gentleman is truly the definition of someone who does go above & beyond. Along with the chef concierge, he was able to dress up my girlfriend and I bed with roses for her birthday before we arrived. This is the place for me to book my stay whenever I come to Dallas for my military visits and personal leisure.

A three-day stay over the Christmas/New Year 2024 holiday brought back memories of the Fairmont Dallas of years ago. While the decor of the lobby and rooms remains the same (some reviewers accuse it of being outdated but we like the soothing brown/grey/beige colors, the retro 1970s decor, and the expansive feel of the rooms and lobby), the small details - housekeeping, front desk registration, doorman greeting, maintenance, gift shop - have returned to their traditional high levels. The complimentary hotel limousine for short downtown trips is very welcomed, and Ron took good care of us. There are, however, still some shortcomings. The Pyramid hotel restaurant has the same menu as the lobby-bar snack menu - not exactly what you would call fine dining. Gone is the restaurant buffet breakfast which, I guess, has been replaced by their top-floor Gold Service lounge with the higher room tariffs. We'd rather spend our money on a two-room executive suite with panoramic windows overlooking Klyde Warren Park. The central location is still the hotel's best asset - close to Klyde Warren Park (nothing like a Mexican-food dinner at "Mi Cocina"), the excellent Dallas Museum of Art, the legendary downtown Neiman Marcus store (although, like every remaining US downtown department store, go on line for merchandise selection rather than for the excellent personalized service and ambiance of the brick-and-mortar store), The Eye sculpture, "The Woolworth" bar and restaurant (highly recommend), the Union Train Station for Amtrak (the only way to travel between Austin and Dallas to avoid airport hassles as well as Interstate 35 construction and trailer rigs from Mexico), and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) lines. Will we return? We have for the last more than twenty years and intend to return.

The hotel has a large open foyer located between two accommodation towers. The rooms are large and comfortable with plenty of space for suitcases. The bathrooms are also quite large. The lobby bar offers a wide selection of draft beers; however, it does get crowded and very noisy around 6pm.

Disappointing Stay at Fairmont Dallas – A Decline in Standards
We are (or were) loyal Fairmont customers, having stayed at four Fairmont properties in the past two years alone. Fairmont has always been our go-to choice when traveling because of its reputation for luxury, comfort, and impeccable service. Unfortunately, after our recent stay at Fairmont Dallas, we will be much more discerning about choosing Fairmont in the future.
From the start, the experience fell far short of Fairmont’s usual standards. The hotel is known for its comfortable beds, but we both slept terribly each night — the mattress and bedding were nowhere near as comfortable as what we’ve experienced at other Fairmont properties. The towels were rough and heavily worn, feeling more like exfoliating cloths than luxury hotel linens.
Upon check-in, we immediately noticed a piece of chewed gum stuck to the wall — an unpleasant and unsanitary detail that reflects a lack of attention to cleanliness. The air vents in our room were visibly covered with dust, and the toilet groaned and creaked loudly when used. The paint in both the room and bathroom was chipped significantly, giving the room a worn and neglected feel.
Service was inconsistent and disappointing. Despite staying on the Gold Floor, our room wasn’t cleaned between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM while we were out. We had to call and specifically request that it be cleaned — something we expected to be prioritized at this level of service. When we requested an extra blanket, the one delivered had a large ripped corner, which was surprising and unacceptable for a Fairmont.
To make matters worse, the pool was closed during our stay, and we were never notified in advance. Additionally, the lobby and bar were overwhelmed with a strong perfume scent that made it difficult to sit and enjoy a drink without feeling nauseous.
It’s hard to ignore the overall feeling that this property is in decline — whether they are remodeling, selling, or simply mismanaging the property, it’s clear they need to figure it out immediately before they permanently damage the Fairmont brand.
We were so disappointed by the experience that we decided to cut our vacation short and leave early — something we’ve never done before at a Fairmont. This was not the luxurious, relaxing experience we expected, and it’s left us seriously reconsidering our loyalty to the Fairmont brand.

The Fairmont Dallas has a great location. The rooms are a little bit small. The chief concierge, Philip Powell, and the evening concierge, Thaddeus Darrel Lucas were the best part of the stay. My wife and I have stayed at plenty of hotels across the country and never had service as great as what these two gentlemen provided. If we even had a hint of dissatisfaction, these two gentlemen immediately jumped on it and made it right. Their professionalism and positive attitudes are something seldom seen anymore. If you stay at the Fairmont, Dallas, make sure you talk to these guys because they will make your stay memorable And exceptional.
