My wife treated us to an afternoon tea as we were considering a stay during future Dubai trips.
We walked in to a very narrow entrance-way, with no sign of a greeting from anyone. In my experience, the truly high-end hotels have a warm and friendly greeting for everybody as soon as you set foot through the door. We really didn't 'feel' the atmosphere in the hotel from start to finish.
We checked in for the afternoon tea and we took a seat outside on the balcony overlooking the small beach. Lots of building work going on just across the bay but that's completely normal for The Emirates so no dramas there. It then took over twenty minutes for someone to come and take a drinks order, the place wasn't that busy so this was a little disappointing.
The afternoon tea was booked for two people, so we were confused when we were told that one of the cups of coffee would be chargeable. We assumed this was an error on the team member's behalf so put that to one side, tea for two, two cups of tea or coffee included, surely?
When the food arrived it looked great, and there was so much of it! What we did eat tasted ok, nothing jaw-dropingly amazing, but what very quickly followed was both of us suffering incredible bloating. We had saved ourselves for this so it wasn't down to the amount of food and drink consumed earlier in the day.
We finished our drinks, and decided that we'd get back to our own hotel, the Mandarin Oriental at Jumeirah. We eventually managed to flag someone down to bring us the bill, in what was now a pretty much empty bar area. Sure enough, the extra cup of coffee was there on the bill. Spending two hundred pounds on afternoon tea here doesn't even stretch to a cuppa each, we double-checked with the team-member and they looked a bit vacant and unwilling to reconsider this. We paid and left.
I've since read some reviews for this hotel, and they really don't reflect our own experience. I find some of them extremely questionable, for example, "My daughter and her husband went. They had a wonderful time....". Odd that there are only 560 reviews at the time of writing this, and the Very Good ones read very unnaturally to me. I'll read the management response with interest!
We won't return, there are definitely better establishments out there in our opinion.

Having just returned after spending a delightful 8 days at the hotel, I am happy to put on record that my experience was flawless. Everything about the hotel is impeccable. The rooms, food, amenities and service were top class and I have no hesitation in recommending the venue to others....

It also has the great advantage of being quieter and more subtle than many of the other major hotels in Dubai. I'm already making plans for my stay next Christmas!

My daughter and her husband went. They had a wonderful time. The hotel was fabulous and luxurious, and they made the most of all the amazing facilities, swimming, gym, spa, etc. They particularly enjoyed being able to have breakfast at any time of the day!
Tobias did an excellent job of ensuring that we had everything we needed. The location was perfect, and the staff was always ready to serve us. There are a great number of restaurants and a private beach to ensure that you enjoy your stay. Definitely will come back

Check in was super smooth, escorted to the room and found birthday surprise. They decorate the room with some balloons, got my mini birthday cake and a Bulgari beach bag with my initial on it.
Our room was perfect with high tech buttons which my husband love, completed with marina view balcony.
I would like to mention one particular staff who serve us at the breakfast beach restaurant, Abdul. He goes extra miles to ensure we enjoy our breakfast despite outdoor extreme heat. My husband was not feeling well so we decided to avoid air-con. Abdul set up a portable cooler next to our table, gave us cold towels to freshen up, and constantly make sure we are enjoying our breakfast.

On arrival plentiful well-briefed staff immediately make one feel welcome and cared for. We dined in a two Michelin-starred Italian restaurant. ALL the waiters and chefs were Italian as well as the cuisine.
The Spa is really nice. One of us had a massage and the other a (very) cold plunge experience. Indira, a yoga trained, holistic and very well-informed wellness professional looked after me in the 5degC barrel. Despite being relatively used to this therapy and practicing regularly, I learned a lot from her. Well done!
