What a lovely place! Avalon is an honest-to-God oasis in the desert. Walking distance to the heart of downtown Palm Springs but a block off the main drag, the hotel feels secluded, peaceful, and full of charm. It’s got several pools, several hot tubs, a nice little gym, even a sauna. Oh, and the staff were just totally welcoming! We just finished a perfect mini-break here and feel completely rejuvenated.
As other reviews have noted, there are some tired rooms here. We booked on Marriott Bonvoy points, and our first room was dark, with no outdoor space. But Grace at the front desk - so helpful! - found us a lovely room with sliding glass doors to a patio by the pool for only $50 a night extra, and it was well worth it. We’d return here in a heartbeat!

This was my 2nd time at the Avalon. The first time I went with a bachelorette group and we stayed in a bungalow. This time it was for my husbands birthday and I thought a king room would be fine. It was unfortunately very disappointing. We travel all the time - this was the first time to stay in a room that was SO SMALL it didn’t even have a closet. You heard right, no closet.
Despite the room being rediculous- the property is still nice and the staph is always great.

I came here with my husband for a weekend getaway. We had an amazing time relaxing at the pools, ordering food and taking advantage of the spa. My husband and I both got the 60 min Avalon massage and it was the most effective massage I’ve ever had in terms of getting rid of all my knots.
We really liked that there were 3 pools to choose from.
Location is ideal and central to the main strip in Palm Springs.
Removing one star because I’m almost positive a scrape and dent on my car are from the valet here. Not sure if it’s from when it was being parked or possibly a guest getting out of their car next to mine too aggressively.

Really enjoyed our stay. Both the hotel and the spa are lovely, with a great vibe. Appreciate the whole staff, and a special shout out to Eloy, who was very personable and professional and really excels in his interactions with guests. Thank you!
We are only home 2 weeks and I cannot wait to go back to the Avalon Hotel on my next Palm Springs vacation!

Our bungalow was absolutely gorgeous and the bed was amazing! A definite 10 out of 10! We stayed in bungalow 109 by the adult pool and when we go back I will request the same bungalow.

While the grounds are nice and the staff quite accommodating the owners of the property rake in the cash year round, but fail to put a penny into the infrastructure.
If you do not mind tasting metal in the water from the tap or while brushing your teeth then the Avalon Hotel & Bungalows of Palm Springs is for you. If you do not mind being scalded while showering after someone flushes the toilet, this place is for you. If you do not worry about electrical fires because they overload devices on extension cords hidden behind the bed and nightstands, stay here. If you are into painted tiles on the floors as well as the walls of the showers, then by all means stay here. Someone's idea of maintenance seems to be "just paint it". That works until the paint peels like with the soap dishes within the shower.
The owners have charged the rates comparable to four and five star hotels for years. We had been hopeful that they would eventually take some of their substantial profits and upgrade what is likely original plumbing and wiring; especially for the safety of their guests and their investment. However, they have not. Even little things like pool coping are neglected all the while the owners rely on the stellar service of their overworks employees to justify their high rates year round.
Though the grounds and service rate highly, the complete neglect by the owners of the infrastructure and safety of their guests leaves me rating this establishment no more that 2.5 stars.
A testing of the water will likely find it contaminated by the failing metal within the supply lines. A safety check by the Fire Department or Building Department would likely result in multiple Notices of Violations being issued due to the higher risk of fire in these old structures (bungalows).
Did I speak with local management? Yes. Did I ask that they convey my concerns about the very poor condition of their infrastructure? Yes. Did I receive a response? Yes. According to the on-site rooms manager, the owners declined to commit to improving these health and safety issues or price their rooms and bungalows based on these conditions.
