We always spend an evening on our Orlando holiday at the square in Portofino hotel to watch the professional show of operatic singers on the balcony- just before sun goes down. Chris is an AWESOME world class singer-although he is not always there. The other singers are wonderful, as is the guitar player. We also love Mama Dellas who serve great food and you can also have requests played by the table in the evening by these singers. The only problem is EVERY time we try watch show people coming off boat from Universal walk across square whilst show is on and shout, talk, scream loudly, run and disrupt for people who have waited ages to see this show. Very disrespectful to singers. PORTOFINO AT THE VERY LEAST PLEASE put lots‘A’ board signs in the square and maybe a BIG sign at entrance to square by Thirsty Fish Pub to ask people to please be quiet just whilst the show is on -it’s only 20 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!

Seemingly Vindictive Concierge, Guests Treated as Enemies

I booked a deluxe room for December, so that I’d have a nice Villa garden view that we enjoy. When we received the room number, we were put at the farthest end of the East wing, without explanation or refund for the lower class of room. I called the concierge from the room and asked for an explanation, and they agreed to move us back to the Deluxe accommodation we paid for.
When we got to the “Deluxe” room, there was a dirty, torn film covering the windows. At about 8:30 am, construction started - we saw people walking past our room and workers were hammering and drilling right next door - the next room over had the door propped open. I felt like we were put there for asking about not getting the room we paid for, but then thought perhaps it was just an accident. I texted the concierge and asked if we could be moved from the construction. I was first told the hotel was completely booked and that was impossible. When I asked to talk to the GM, I was then told I could be moved away from construction. We had booked the hotel because we were spending the morning resting from travels, and were using it for more than just a place to sleep. Again, we were assured we’d be moved away from the construction.
So, they moved us back to the East wing to room 1131. Which was right next to construction. I mean, immediately adjacent to it - jackhammers and drills, it seemed that the workers were widening a door. At this point in time, I knew it had to have been done on purpose. It made me really sad. Guests are treated like enemies.
In addition, we were still charged for the deluxe room price although we had been moved to the lowest class of room in the hotel.
At no time was I rude, did I use inappropriate language, nor yell - my situation was a bit difficult but I was not. And I was very appreciative when it seemed that we were being helped. But I guess they got a good laugh out of that. I mean, there was one single room in the East wing that had construction going on, and they put us there.
Really…don’t stay here. It used to be so nice, and the bell services and room service folks were as excellent as always. But we were treated not only poorly from a service standpoint, but just poorly as fellow human beings.

This Hotel has been a go-to destination for me and the family for over 20 years. It never disappoints. This most recent visit was even more special as we get married on Cocoa Beach and had our Reception at the Thirsty Fish in the evening.
We were treated like royalty for the whole two weeks we were there.
Room - Got given a lovely room overlooking the Bay with a balcony. Very clean and well appointed with the most comfortable bed you can ask for, along with huge bathroom.
Check in team were very friendly and efficient
Sal's Market Deli was a lovely option for Pizzas (they kindly catered for our reception and the pizza was so popular we had to order more!)
Star of the Show at this hotel is the Thirsty Fish - it's a brilliant little bar with great staff who make you feel very welcome. Special mention for Shawn who is a legend and has been there for 20+ years, he always recognises us when we return and makes us feel very valued.
Construction - minimal impact for us as we were staying in a Bay View Room, all the work in the Bay area is finished now and looks amazing.
If you're staying here in the next few months, make sure you get a Bay View Room and you won't be impacted at all.
Sadly, Villa Pool was unusable due to the construction noise and tarpaulin etc. Aside from this, the hotel is stunning. The gym is also in a poor state but I believe this is temporary.
Only real negative was the bad meal at BICE (separate review).
All in all, HIGHLY recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Universal, not least for the Express Pass which is a life saver in busy times.
Walk to Citywalk is about 15 mins and is a lovely stroll. Boat is a good alternative too.
Thank you all again for making our special trip so enjoyable. Can't wait to return.

Portofino Bay Hotel has just had a fabulous renovation! We were there in 2023 when they were prepping it and have been looking forward to this trip. In 2024 it was too involved with the reno for us to stay and I was curious how this would be. The exterior painting is just gorgeous and the renovated Trattoria is very inviting and comfortable. There were one or two small tweaks being done during the day but all just small things being finished up.
An impressive thing is the wonderful and responsive staff. Niyah(sp?) at the front desk was great! The atmosphere is relaxing and it has the Italian feel that is calming after a busy day at the parks. The breakfast buffet has lots of fresh food as well as someone making your fresh eggs and omelets with many options.
So, if you’ve read the reviews about the disturbance with the reno, know that everything is now looking great and everything is open.
