Firstly, the hotel looks lovely from the outside and lobby is impressive. We booked and paid for the hotel prior to travelling from the UK. We checked in late after a long flight and delays through Passport Control and collecting our hire car.
On arrival at the hotel, EVERY parking bay had a sign on it stating "reserved for Valet Parking" in fact as soon as you drive in to the hotel you go up the ramp and are greeted by valets who park your car and give you a ticket as a reference.
On Check-In we were advised we would need to pay an additional $153 resort fee. This is compulsory and not readily advertised. I stated that I was not aware of this and was told with a look of disgust that all hotels in the USA charge this. I explained to the person that I have stayed in both NY and LA in the last 12 months and neither hotels did this. She then corrected herself and stated "I meant state" While this offers guests options, none of those stated would be used by us. I explained that we were not aware of these charges and had fully paid in the UK but was advised (quite curtly) that we would need to pay this or would not be able to check-in. The also deducted a $600 deposit from our credit card. We were staying 3 nights.
The room was very big, very stark as white had no carpeting and bright lights. The blind was in a cavity in the wall but did not roll up and down properly as it had become detached from the sides. I repaired this.
The tea/coffee making facilities that are advertised as part of the resort charge are a coffee making machine with coffee pods. No facilities to make a cup of tea.
Mugs, plates, glasses and plastic cutlery were provided.
The room was cold and we could not seem to adjust the air-conditioning, but after such a long flight/delays, etc. we were exhausted we had a soft drink that we had bought locally from a shop, using the glasses provided and went to bed.
The next morning, I improvised and made a cup of tea using the coffee machine and tea bags brought from the UK. On leaving the hotel in the morning for a day out I requested an additional blanket. On returning late that night, housekeeping had not provided an additional blanket, nor had they washed/changed the mugs and or cups.
I went to reception to ask for this to be completed and for a blanket. No-one came.
I had to go back down to reception to be told someone would bring a blanket. When the person eventually came with the blanket I asked about the cups and was told they did not understand what I was asking, I would need to speak to reception.
The following day, I again complained about the cups having had to just have to rinse them out. I was told housekeeping would sort this out for us. They didn't. Returning that night the dirty cups/glasses were still there.
On check-out the next morning, I complained again. I was told that housekeeping "do not do washing-up" they just replace, dirty items and again I explained they had done neither and while I accepted that a resort charge was compulsory, I felt that they hotel should get the basics right before charging for additional items that some guests may not use, like us.
Despite the disdain on the person's face, she reluctantly agreed to waiver the resort charge but then proceeded to inform me that we owed $150 for 3 nights valet parking! This cost was NEVER mentioned at any point throughout our 3 day stay and it is not possible to park independently at the hotel as stated earlier in my review, all spaces are reserved for Valet parking.
In essence, the staff are unhelpful, rude and I feel that this hotel is definitely style over substance. I would NEVER stay here again nor would I recommend anyone staying here. Unless of course you use every facility offered and don't mind being cold, and drinking out of dirty cups and glasses for the duration of your stay.
Shame on you Mondrian South Beach Hotel!!!

We were in a studio suite with a city view. While the room was spacious, for us it was very minimalistic and different. Some of our complaints were that there was no luggage rack, the room had an ironing board but no iron (when we called about that we were told we had to request one (!!) and housekeeping wasn’t working yet, but we insisted since we needed to go out), the bed was too low and almost to the floor, the Keurig machine didn’t work, rickety night tables that needed dusting and one of the lamps was broken, the weirdest sink in the bathroom, there was no pen or paper, the only drawers for clothes was in the kitchen, I could not reach the safe in the closet because it was too high (I’m 5’2”) and we had to lock the safe even when we weren’t using it since it kept hitting against closet door when you opened it, there wasn’t a convenient place to charge phones, there wasn’t any complimentary water. All that being said, the bed was at least comfortable, the room was spacious and the shower was really nice, but this isn’t our type of hotel and I wouldn’t consider it a luxury hotel.

I generally had a very good perception of Mondrian Hotels prior to staying at the the Mondrian South Beach. I've actually been wanting to stay at this hotel for awhile now, so I was excited to finally give it a try! Unfortunately, the hotel was really a let down. It's nothing like all the other Mondrian Hotels that I've experienced. It really shouldn't even be considered a Mondrian. The lobby was nicely done, so maybe the lobby was more recently renovated, because the room was extremely outdated, in poor condition and frankly not very clean. I think my room was called a studio which was a little larger than most of the other rooms, but the extra space was just empty space. I would have hoped for at least a big comfy lounge chair, but the room was extremely sparse. With tile floors, the room also felt very cold and cavernous. It desperately needs a large area rug. It also didn't help that the air conditioning was set to 64 degrees when we arrived, so we had to turn on the heat just to get the room to an acceptable temperature. At the cramped entry of the room is what appears to be a kitchenette, but it's been stripped down to nothing but a waste of space. The bathroom was actually quite large, but not efficiently designed. Most of the bathroom is taken up by a very large vanity where the entire top of the vanity is the sink. It looks sort of interesting, but truly not very functional. The shower was the worst part. The handheld component was not functional, so you can only use what was supposed to be a rain shower head that was also a light fixture. The light fixture was falling and the shower stream was extremely strong (to the point that it almost stings your skin when it makes contact). Normally, strong water pressure would be a good thing, but the streams of water unfortunately spray in every which way rather than in the direction it's supposed to. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash were all different and were supposed to be attached to the wall of the shower. Unfortunately, the body wash was empty when I arrived, so I asked the front desk to have it refilled while I was out. Instead of refilling the empty bottle in the shower, someone simply left another different bottle of body wash in the room. I definitely would not recommend this particular hotel and I will definitely think twice before booking another Mondrian in the future.

I recently stayed at Mondrian south beach and it was an absolute dream! The location couldn’t be better—right by the water, offering stunning views and easy access to the beach. Waking up to the sound of waves and enjoying my morning coffee on the balcony overlooking the ocean was pure bliss.
The hotel itself is beautifully maintained, with elegant decor and a relaxing atmosphere. My room was spacious, spotless, and well-equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The staff went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed, providing exceptional service with a friendly attitude.
The on-site dining options were fantastic, featuring fresh seafood and delicious cocktails with a breathtaking waterfront view. Whether I was lounging by the pool, strolling along the shore, or enjoying the sunset from the outdoor patio, every moment felt like a true getaway.
If you’re looking for a peaceful yet luxurious stay right by the water, I highly recommend Mondrian. I can’t wait to return!
