The serving staff - France, Evalyn, Jose, Vishu - were so wonderful and accommodating. Everyone treated us like family throughout our stay. Highly recommend, will go back!

This is an amazing resort, from first arriving by private plane & being welcomed with a glass of champagne, to sadly leaving a week later. We were assigned Clay as our island host who took care of us, planned our trips & made sure we were happy and had everything we needed every moment of every day. Our bungalow was beautifully appointed, with everything we needed and some things we didn’t even know we needed. The beach, the bungalow and our plunge pool was kept pristine. Every single member of staff was happy, friendly and so helpful. The resort was not crowded at all. It was perfect. I can’t wait to go back. I really cannot say enough good things about this trip.

The hangover bar was a great time for all. James was so wonderful and he went the extra mile to decorate our bungalow for my birthday. Everyone at the resort is genuinely kind and accommodating. Ambergris Cay is an incredible and unique getaway—a private island that offers a level of seclusion, relaxation, and luxury that’s hard to find anywhere else. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we had stepped into a peaceful, untouched paradise. The resort is truly exclusive, with only about 70 guests on the entire island during our stay. The 1,100-acre setting makes it feel completely private, with a pristine beach and no crowds—just pure tranquility. Beachfront Bungalow Experience Our beachfront bungalow was one of the highlights of our trip. At 1,600 square feet, it felt spacious, private, and luxurious—one of the most well-designed accommodations we’ve stayed in. The heated plunge pool, hammock, and lounge chairs made it easy to spend the day unwinding while looking out over the ocean. The golf cart provided with the bungalow was a nice touch, allowing us to explore the island at our own pace. There are only 17 bungalows spread out along a quarter-mile stretch of beach, so we rarely saw other guests. The only real downside was that the water in front of our bungalow was too shallow for swimming—just 1-2 feet deep. It was perfect for floating on a raft, but I missed being able to wade into deeper water. Dining & Atmosphere Breakfast was always great, with a mix of classic favorites like omelets, pancakes, and waffles, along with chef’s specials like poached eggs and croque madame. For lunch, we often ordered room service to enjoy meals in our bungalow. While the food was good, it wasn’t particularly memorable, and it sometimes arrived cooler than we would have liked. The pizza at the Clubhouse, however, was very good and a solid lunch option. Dinner was where the resort really shined. Fresh seafood, especially the lobster and grouper, was outstanding, and the atmosphere was perfect—palm trees swaying in the breeze, soft reggae music in the background, and a beautiful beachfront setting. Chantel, our hostess, greeted us warmly each night, making the experience feel extra special. Service & Arrival Experience The service at Ambergris Cay was exceptional. Our Island Host, Clemente, went above and beyond to make sure we were always comfortable and had everything we needed. From greeting us by name when we arrived to making sure we never had to wait for anything, the level of personal attention made the experience even more enjoyable. Activities & Excursions Ambergris Cay offers a variety of included and paid activities, and we tried a few during our stay: Included Activities: Hangover Floating Bar at Little Ambergris Cay – This was a standout experience! A fun and unique floating bar in the middle of crystal-clear waters—a must-do. Tennis & the fitness center – The fitness center was well equipped and has amazing ocean views, which made workouts more enjoyable. Paid Activities: Sunset cruise – This was a bit of a letdown. While the crew (Jason and John) were friendly, we expected more of an actual cruise, but the boat remained mostly stationary. One activity that didn’t quite meet expectations was the bonfire at Monck Beach—it sounded great in theory, but there was no seating and we were the only ones there, which made it feel underwhelming. Special Touches One of our favorite little details was Claude, who stopped by our bungalow every afternoon with fresh pineapples. He’d slice them on the spot and pour the juice into a glass, giving us the freshest, most delicious treat—something we’ll always remember. Accessibility Considerations Ambergris Cay has a couple of design issues that could be challenging for guests with mobility concerns: The private pool has five steps and no handrails, so my wife needed assistance getting in and out. The indoor shower is aesthetically beautiful, but the floor tiles are very slippery, and the glass partition isn’t long enough, causing water to splash onto the bathroom floor. We had to use extra towels to prevent slipping. While these weren’t dealbreakers for us, guests who need extra accessibility features should be aware of these challenges. Final Thoughts Ambergris Cay is a truly special place. It offers seclusion, luxury, and a peaceful atmosphere that’s hard to find elsewhere. As I sit here on our last full day, looking out at the turquoise waters and white sand, I feel incredibly grateful for this experience. The privacy, personalized service, and beauty of this island made it an unforgettable getaway, and we hope to return someday. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. The only real downside is the shallow beach water, but everything else was near perfect. If you’re looking for a private island retreat with unmatched peace and quiet, Ambergris Cay is a fantastic choice.

While they list a lot of services and activities, they weren’t available (no yoga for instance). Food was decent but not fabulous. Skip the “bonfire private dinner” you’ll be covered in smoke. “Included” wines are not very good and cheap. Beware of snakes on the boardwalk at night. But it was a lovely stay in our oceanfront bungalow. If they had just said “bring a book, do nothing and make no decisions” I think that would be better than billing it as an all-inclusive with a lot of activities.

This place really has it all. The setting is incredible, the amenities and lodging are second to none, and the staff truly cares about your experience. You can be as busy with activities/adventure or as restful as you want. There are places on this island where you could stay all day and not see another person from sun up to sun down or you could go on an excursion with other couples and make friends for your trip and beyond. Exploring the island by golf cart and seeing the beautiful water, inland nature, and pirate ruins was a ton of fun. The conch dive was unique to the area. The hangover bar is like nothing else you will ever see and do. Our butler James was great. He took care of everything we needed and was so kind. Our buddy Miguel with the wait staff was awesome. He made excellent food recommendations and by the end of the trip was a great friend to us. Ahbishek made some of the best drinks I’ve ever had and always made sure we had a great time. Evelyn was also so sweet to us during meals. This is probably the most unique place I have ever been. Pictures and words just don’t do it justice. You have to see it for yourself, and you won’t regret it when you do.

It gets no better for us. The food is outstanding. Fresh, tasty, and a wide variety of choices. The bungalows are fantastic. Large, private, on the beach, with your own outdoor dining area, patio lounge area, hammock between two palm trees, beach lounge chairs, and your own large purge pool. We spent a lot of time enjoying all of these things. Your own , brand new rugged golf cart to get around the island. Fantastic exercise facility that has all you need for a great workout, with a yoga studio on its roof. Best of all are the staff. They truly care, and provide the best service anywhere. Thanks, James, Miguel, Pedro, Frantz, Diane, Abhi, John, Marlin, Claude and EVERYONE! We hope to be lucky enough to return for another visit.

The most luxurious and relaxing vacation we have ever had. This place is remote and quiet, without the busy touristy showy stuff. The staff always amazing, especially Clay our host. The Hangover bar was very fun. For all incisive the food and drinks were on point.

We chose Ambergris Cay because of its seclusion and also because each bungalow came with its own golf cart which would help as my husband's mobility is compromised by Parkinson's Disease. The whole experience was wonderful. In the chaotic scenes at Providenicales airport the driver employed by the resort found us quickly and we were whisked away to a small private airport for our island hopper flight to Ambergris Cay. Our bungalow was beautifully furnished and it felt like our own piece of paradise with the plunge pool, loungers and patio. What makes Ambergris Cay so special, however, is the staff. They were happy and went out of their way to ensure that our experience was wonderful. Our island host, Victor, was incredible often anticipating what we might need. He booked appointments, activities, and even turned up with towels to wipe down the golf cart after a rainfall. Special mention must also go to Chanel the hostess at the Clubhouse in the morning and at Calico in the evening. She went out of her way to help my husband and it was much appreciated. Food is subjective but I think I can safely say that the food was the best I have ever had at any resort. No buffets here - everything was a la carte and the choice was wide. My husband's dietary issues were always catered for and substitutions made with ease.

You have to request Clay as your butler he made this experience even better. Couldn’t have asked for anything else, always on time and the best all around. The food was amazing. I am very picky and was scared to come but loved so much food. Had no idea we would be driving around on golf carts so going to and from breakfast lunch does take some time. Dinner is fairly close. The hangover bar was great with amazing drinks. February was windy the entire time which was the downfall. Most staff was so accommodating and wonderful you can tell they love what they do and love to provide hospitality.

Not sure where to start....but let's start with the obvious.  This place is the best resort we have stayed in the Caribbean.  Better than Jade Mountain, better than Amanyara, better than Hermitage Bay, etc.   We stayed in a bungalow for 7 days.  Everything was perfect.   - perfectly appointed (the outdoor shower was awesome) - great technology (TV, internet, electric shades, etc.) - the plunge pool was set to the perfect temperature (85 degrees) - the sunsets were a religious experience - our butler (James) was on top of every detail and very accessible via the private phone they give you upon arrival Other items to note: - the workout facility is state of the art with a beautiful ocean view. -the food was delicious (breakfast, lunch and dinner).   - the spa is incredible (two messages and one facial) -Hangover bar was a fun experience and a great excursion -every staff member was friendly, accommodating, and sincerely seemed happy to be there - there are lots of iguanas and chickens on the island.  The roosters will welcome you every morning (we loved it). -the bungalows are close together, but you have lots of privacy.  We brought a portable speaker and never had an issue with loud music. -food-wise, they will accommodate whatever you need Every bungalow gets an ATV or golf cart. I believe that the newer bungalows (11-17) all had ATVs. We are in the process of booking for next January.

This resort is absolutely amazing and worth every penny. We went to celebrate my birthday. We stayed in a bungalow #10 which I recommend. It is the last one in the first row of cottages and then there is some open beach area and another row of cottages begins. All the food was delicious. At the time we went they told us there were about 30-40 people on the island because it was low season. They said the peak season starts in November and is through Feb-March. So the good thing, was the first day, we literally were the only ones walking the beach and all you can hear are the waves crashing and seagulls. When we went to breakfast early we would be the only ones there too. Most of the time we would only see one or two other couples during lunch or breakfast. The island is small and is fun to go around exploring in the golf cart. Our host, Clemente, was amazing. We had several requests and he was able to make them happen. It's nice they give you a phone especially when you are out exploring in the golf cart. Friends of ours came later in our trip and the staff set them up in the bungalow next to us and we were able excursions together. The Hangover Bar is a must. Very fun, relaxing and the water looks amazing there. We didn't have any problems getting to the island. We paid for the express customs service that the resort recommends if you are flying in late in the afternoon. I'm glad we did it because the customs line was super long when we got there. We were out of the airport in 10 min. Then the resort has a car pick up you and take you to the next airport and that lounge are is very nice.

We had an unforgettable time at Ambergris Cay for our honeymoon! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed with champagne and greeted by the friendly staff. Our island host, Clemente, was exceptional! He was incredibly helpful throughout our entire stay, always quick to answer any questions and assist with making reservations. We stayed in the bungalows right on the water and loved how private and peaceful the setting was. The staff did a fantastic job keeping our bungalow clean and stocked with fresh bedding, towels, and a fully stocked fridge. During our stay, we had an incredible deep-sea fishing experience with Captain Jayson, Leo, and Marlin. They were amazing guides, and we caught a lot of fish! The restaurant prepared it for us that evening, and it was absolutely delicious. We also went snorkeling at the shipwreck with Captain Jayson and Kayden, which was an absolute blast! Kayden was so helpful and made us feel comfortable in the water, as we were not very experienced snorkelers. One of our favorite experiences was visiting the Hangover Bar on Little Ambergris Cay. The water there was some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen, and the drinks and snacks were fantastic. We loved it so much that we went twice! We highly recommend making a stop there at least once during your trip—you won’t be disappointed. The dining options were fantastic as well. The breakfast and lunch menus offered a wide variety of choices, ensuring there was something for everyone. The dinner restaurant was equally impressive, and we loved that the menu changed every evening, so we always had something new to look forward to. The resort was wonderfully private. At times, it felt like we had the entire island to ourselves! We had a great time exploring the island by golf cart, as there was so much to see and do. The resort strikes the perfect balance between relaxation and activities, catering to whatever kind of vacation you're looking for. The fitness center was also beautiful, equipped with new, clean gear and offering stunning views. I even took a yoga class one morning, which was an amazing experience. The rooftop view from the gym was absolutely unbeatable! What stood out the most was the staff. Every staff member we encountered greeted us with a smile and made us feel so welcome. We built strong connections with many of the team members, and it was difficult to say goodbye. They truly became friends in a short amount of time! Some of the wonderful staff we got to know included Clemente, Pedro, Luis, Jose, GK, Evelyn, Jayson, Kayden, Leo, Marlin, and so many others. The ladies at the main office were incredibly helpful and kind as well, always ensuring that we had everything we needed and were well taken care of during our stay. Though we were sad to leave, we're already talking about our next visit! We wholeheartedly recommend this resort and can't wait to return!

I had a picture in my head my entire life for what a dream honeymoon would be... and this place exceeded expectations. The bungalow is absolutely stunning steps away from ocean and private heated tub, with lots of high tech features. Clay was extremely attentive and anything we needed was just a text away. Although there are others here you have so much privacy and at times felt like we were the only ones at the resort. We loved taking the golf cart exploring (especially Hawkins beach). Food was amazing and all the servers were so kind and thoughtful. Shoutout to our amazing bartender from Grenada! Would absolutely come again, most relaxing vacation we have ever taken.

We spent a week at Ambergris Cay in late February/early March. When it appeared that our list of “want to dos” on the online form had disappeared into the ether, Clemente quickly put it right and continued to schedule us all week as other possibilities became available. He updated our activity list each time it changed and reminded us of our schedule. We texted using my iPhone and the resort’s WiFi system. Clemente proactively kept us supplied with ice, sparkling water, and limes. When my husband took a liking to the Turk’s Head IPA, Clemente made sure the refrigerator was stocked. We were greeted with a lovely cheese tray and the room was decorated for our anniversary. Frito-Lay brand snacks were always available. I enjoyed my chats with Claude, the groundskeeper. He has worked on the island for 22 years. He was kind enough to bring us green coconuts and cut them with his machete to give us the coconut water and the coconut jelly. Meal service was amazing and the food was great. The breakfast menu changes a bit as the weekend approaches (Kimchi Eggs Benedict!) . Fish tacos and lamb pita were my favorites at lunch. There were many tasty seafood offerings for dinner but we only had conch once. I would like to have had more. All of their lamb dishes were excellent. We appreciated the professional service and humor of Pedro, Evelyn, “France”, Vishnu, and Jose at meals. There was a power outage of several hours (this is not common) while we were there but the kitchen managed to feed us well despite this challenge. All of the water sports crew were excellent. A special shout out to Jason, who made sure I made boat transfers safely- my knees aren’t what they used to be. We enjoyed the Hobie Cat lesson with Kaden. The Hangover Bar is an experience not to miss- we went twice. The Sunset Cruise gave us some great photo ops and we were able to take pictures of our bungalow from the water. We also saw the flamingos take flight. My husband had not played tennis recently and found that Jerome gave him some very useful tips for improving his game. He was also impressed with the yoga classes. The housekeeping staff did a wonderful job (twice a day) of keeping our bungalow sparkling and tidy. Although it was beautiful, the indoor shower tended to make much of the bathroom wet, so we took to using the lovely outdoor shower. The plunge pool and our lounge chairs were also cleaned/maintained daily. We were often visited by the endangered Turks and Caicos Rock Iguanas at our bungalow along with some (non-endangered) feral chickens. Stargazing was great at the bungalow and there were two beach bonfires during our stay. Morning walks are a wonderful way to start the day since the beach is right outside the door. Tip: If it looks like it might rain, do not drive in the golf cart if you can help it. When we started driving our last day, there were just a few drops that then became a deluge. We were in our traveling clothes in preparation for leaving and we were completely drenched. We bagged our wet clothes and grabbed some dirty clothes from the suitcase. Some large sealable plastic bags are a good idea to add to your packing list. Tip: A flashlight is also useful if you plan to walk to dinner at Calico. You might see one of the Southern Bahamas Boas on the boardwalk at night (they are nocturnal) but they will try to avoid you.

The accommodations and dining are exceptional. There are many available activities. The surrounding ocean color is various shades of turquoise and dark blue. There are multiple amazing beaches and locations to snorkel. Clay helped make our stay PERFECT.

If we were to come back we'd come with a larger group of family or friends as the groups here seemed to make the most use of the island and activities available. Wed recommend at the spa the massages and the body wraps experiences. From the moment you are picked up at the Provinciales airport you are treated as a treasured guest. The flight over to the island is only about 20 minutes with wonderful views. The staff at Ambergris Cay are nothing short of spectacular. They all deserve to be mentioned by name, but unfortunately, I do not know all of their names! Sometimes it was a staff member cleaning the fitness pavilion, or staff on the roads — but each and everyone was helpful, polite and most accommodating. I would like to give special thanks to Vishnu (food services) , Jose (food services), Joslyn (food services), Pedro (food services) and of course the wonderful Evelyn (food services). These 5 served us at many of our meals and they were always there with a smile and ready to assist with any menu alterations we needed due to a dietary sensitivity. Food is an important part of a vacation — and you will not be disappointed here at Ambergris Cay. There is a wide variety of food and it is prepared with care and wonderful flavor. I need to also mention a couple of great bartenders — Martin in the Club House bar and also the bartender (I forget his name but I think it starts with an “A”) at the Hangover Bar. This gentleman also works at the Calico bar and he knows how to make amazing drinks! Just like his name tag says — he is a mixologist who knows how to mix drinks!! Our bungalow was like a haven. We were welcomed with a bottle of wine/champagne and a cheese tray. In addition, you are stocked with snacks, coffee/tea, still/sparking water, beer and sodas. The plunge pool was used everyday. We actually found it too warm and they quickly turned it down so that we could enjoy a “refreshing” dip. The sunset views from your deck/pool are beautiful. The cleaning staff comes twice and day. We mainly used the outdoor shower as the indoor one made such a mess of the entire bathroom area (poor design!). The electric golf carts are wonderful to get around the island. We spent time everyday exploring different trails. We saw all the ruins and every beach. I highly recommend going out each day and exploring! We walked to breakfast at Calico each morning but for everything else we used our golf cart. I will say that it was very windy when we were there. So ladies — bring a scarf to put around your head if you’re opposed to “windblown” hair at dinner!! The e-bikes were also a great way to get around the island. We did a guided tour with Curtis and that was a real highlight for us. He has been working on the island for several years and has a wealth of knowledge. You can tell he loves his job and he is so happy to share the island with you. The excursion to the Hangover Bar is an absolute MUST. We enjoyed it so much that we went twice during our 7 day stay. This was a great way to get to know other guests and the scenery at the tiki bar is stunning. Thanks to Kayden who was our boat captain! Unfortunately we were unable to enjoy any non-motorized water sports as the wind was quite extreme when we were there. However, they do have kayaks, SUP’s and a catamaran for guests to use. We travel 4-5 times/year and normally I never go back to the same place twice. However, I may have to change my practice because Ambergris Cay impressed me so much that it is a place I would definitely consider returning to.

If you like 5 star service but want to feel - and actually be - on your own secluded and exclusive island, and add all-inclusive to your requirements, Ambergris Cay is a must! During our stay, we kept asking ourselves, and hearing other guests asking the same thing, “how do they provide this level of service and quality of accommodations with so few guests on the island?” We still don’t know the answer but will go back time and again to take advantage of one of the most special places we’ve ever visited. This is a lengthy review but broken out into sections we felt were important to highlight. Accommodations: There are 17 one-bedroom bungalows and several multi-bedroom villas on the island. There was a mix of couples and families enjoying the resort. Despite being “at capacity,” we were amazed how easy it was to take advantage of activities (both free and fee-based). Our bungalow was modernly appointed with a comfortable mattress, coach and chairs for seating, dual showers, outdoor shower, small kitchenette sink in the countertop bar that also had two bar stools, fully stocked refreshment fridge (with room for other items), snacks, Nespresso coffee bar (hint: have them bring you milk and use the milk-frother provided) and an assortment of cards and board games. Outside included a couple cushioned chairs and a table and chairs on the covered “back porch.” Just off the porch, was an ample patio with lounge chairs, umbrella and small plunge pool. A few steps further and you are in the sand with a hammock, another set of lounge chairs and umbrella, and the most beautiful view you can imagine. The pictures provided by the resort are the real deal! Coffee each morning was serene and the sunsets spectacular. High tide we could use the provided foam pool floats as the water was no more than waist deep for several hundred yards out. Suggestion: bring water shoes as the sand is quite soft and there are holes that make it a bit more difficult to walk. To get around the island, you are assigned “a buggy” (aka nice golf cart). You can take the buggy anywhere on the island where there is a path. All paths are dirt/sand but it adds to the remote, secluded island ambience. With the buggy, you could get from one end of the island to the other in about 15 mins, but from the bungalows to Calico (restaurant) or Mahoney’s (bar) the spa and pool, you could walk on a walkway path on the beach if you don’t want to drive. There were a few minor (very minor) things we wished were different with the bungalow. Clothes storage was a bit sparse. There are two closets but only a couple shelves (taking up half a closet) and shelf above clothes bar. Plenty of room to hang clothes but a couple more drawers / shelves would be nice. There are not many power outlets and the ones by the bedside do not have much room to set things so charging devices or other things to plug in wasn’t the easiest (note, bathroom was fine for outlets). Last, there are both privacy and blackout shades, but each was separately all-up or all-down with the remote control. With windows / patio doors on three sides, it would be great to be able to open the ocean view shades and leave the privacy and/or blackout shades on the sides of the bungalow down. Again, all minor and did not detract from our vacation at all. Activities: There are lots of activities included with your stay such as kayaks, paddle boards and Hobie cats. There are beach bonfires, sunset cocktails, bone fishing lessons and more. As mentioned above, the use of the buggy is a great way to explore the island as there are many paths, and various ruins across the island. A trip to the Hangover Bar is a must. By boat, you are taken to a floating pontoon bar just off Little Ambergris Cay where there are sandwiches, snacks, drinks and the ability to explore a bit of Little Ambergris Cay. Additionally, there are up-charge activities ranging from food, spa and water activities. For water activities, weather can sometimes cause delays or cancellations, but the staff does everything possible to complete activities if it’s safe and feasible to do so. We had a 1/2 day boat charter cancelled due to a storm and one of our memories from our stay was then being able to sit in our bungalow and watch the storm roll across the water. We were able to take advantage of a sunset cruise and that was one of the most relaxing activities we did. Chef’s table experience is nice if you like elevated food (even more so than what is already being served) and a chance to get to know your chef while he or she cooks in front of you. Chef Shinovas (with Evelyn’s help serving) made our chef’s table experience special and he made it a point to come say hello multiple times through the rest of our stay. The bonfire dinner is absolutely special, being served dinner on your own private dock under the light of bonfire. Sabash, the beverage director served us and in addition to great wine, made us some of his special mixologist cocktails. And every great resort also has a great spa. Both therapists were exceptional, so much so, my wife and I booked second spa services before the end of our trip. Service: Every single person you encounter on the island goes out of his or her way to ensure you are having a memorable experience creating life-long memories. From your assigned Island Host (butler) to maintenance staff, you will not find anyone not willing to wave as you pass on the buggy, say hello as you walk by, drop whatever they are doing (unless currently helping other guests) to take care of any whim you may have and so much more. It is the epitome of a “make guests happy” culture regardless of who you might encounter. James was our Island Host. We’ve had butlers at other resorts and while each one has always provided great service, James was a true favorite. Not only did he answer any request any time of the day (note, we did not abuse this privilege with extremely last night requests), and do so expediently and thoroughly, but he did so with a graciousness that made us feel like we were his only guests (despite knowing he had multiple other couples/families). He always seemed to be right where we needed him, right when we needed him. There are too many others that provided such great service to name by name. Just know that everyone is working hard to make your stay a memorable one! Logistics: We had a few questions before and during our trip that we could not find much information about in other reviews so hoping this information will come in handy for future guests. Flying into PLS: Highly recommend a Fast Track service to expedite customs and expedited security on return. What could have been over an hour only took minutes to get through customs on arrival and when trying to get to “island time” the fees are worth it. We flew on a Monday for arrival but made the mistake of departing on a Saturday. We’ve never seen more chaos at an airport… so much so, we almost missed our flight because of extremely long airline lines that just didn’t move quickly and subsequently a very hectic boarding process (example: our flight was never posted on the flight boards… we were lucky enough to see someone we met in the long lines and knew they were on our flight head through check-in gate and out to the planes so we asked and they said they were almost done boarding our flight). Fast Track services was helpful with security screening, but cannot help with the airlines so try to avoid Saturday (and somewhat Friday and Sunday) or plan to have ample time at PLS. One other note, PLS does not allow digital boarding passes so you simply cannot avoid the lines at the airport, contributing to the problem. Transfer to/from PLS to Ambergris Cay: the resort provides a transfer via small plane as part of your stay. It is less than a 20 min flight but you have to transfer to a private air terminal to catch that flight (note, the resort provides a driver to do this transfer as well). Once through customs, tell a curbside airport member you are going to Ambergris Cay and he calls for your driver. Sounds sketchy but really works. On the return from Ambergris Cay, ensure they’ve given ample time to deal with PLS check-in. We were scheduled for a transfer flight that gave us 2 hrs and 50 mins (on a Saturday) and we barely made it to our flight out of PLS because of reasons above. Our future trips will not include a Saturday travel day for all the reasons outlined above. Tipping/Gratuities: if you ask anyone on the island (except concierges who check you in/out) about tipping, they will all tell you “we are only focused on ensuring you have a wonderful time.” It was clear tipping was allowed but not so clear on etiquette. We personally like to carry cash and tip as we go for things like meals, drinks, any paid activities like water-sports, spa, etc. What is difficult to “tip as you go” is butler service, housekeeping (as they are in to clean, bring new towels throughout the day, turn-down service, etc.), pool service and outside clean up staff who help with patio and beach lounge chairs and other situations where you may not be carrying cash. For those scenarios, tipping at the end was completely acceptable. The resort will provide you with envelopes that you can place cash in and put individual peoples’ names, or you can name a function (i.e. housekeeping). You can also charge your credit card at the end of your stay. Again, this can be by name or by function, but this is less personal as it simply gets added to a future payroll for the employee or group. If going the credit card route, inform the concierge as you check out as they’ll include a specific line item on your closing statement for the charges. Dress code: In short, there is none, but use common sense for a higher-end, all-inclusive resort. Breakfast and lunch you see workout clothes, swimming attire (covered up with wraps or shirts), shorts, t-shirts or button-ups. This is prevalent throughout the day as guests are partaking in a variety of activities. Evening is typically nice shorts or island slacks and short or long sleeve button-ups for male or female and some sundresses for ladies. In March, there’s a cool island breeze in the evening so long sleeves or wraps for ladies were not uncommon. All-in-all, Ambergris Cay is a hidden gem. Its accommodations and capacity will always feature it as a secluded, exclusive style resort with world-class service. If you are looking for an intimate, relaxing location where the staff know you by name, this is a must-try. For us, it is a new favorite of the Caribbean and one of our top favorites across the entire world.
