We were considering booking again for next year; however, from the recent reviews, the geese problem is not being properly addressed. We have been to this resort a few times. It is on a bluff above the beach and the views are gorgeous. There is a beach you can walk down to but the trail is steep and slippery so we drove to nearby beaches. This is a really beautiful resort. The pools are lovely and the grounds are tended beautifully. The units are spacious. The decor is pleasant and has Hawaiian touches. Every single encounter with a staff member was pleasant; they were eager to help make our vacation pleasurable. Nanea restaurant on site is very very good.

Chickens run the place and more of a generic resort vibe than others in Hawaii.

Attractive resort with lovely terraced swimming pools, spas, and waterfalls. No beaches within walking distance, as you are above the ocean cliff-side. Golf course on both sides and nice ocean views. But, unlike the Marriott Beach Club in PoiPu—where we had just spent a week—we haven’t heard a single “Aloha” from a staff member. Nor is there the look-you-in-the-eyes and share-a-big-smile attitude from most of those working on the resort. These things were exceptional at The Beach Club. When checking in, there was only one bellman on duty, and many of the accommodations are a long way from the lobby and parking, so full luggage carts were stacking up. There was no time estimate for when our luggage would reach our room, so we did it ourselves. My primary concern, though, is the resort’s seemingly lax attitude about fowl. The Beach Club was right next to the large PoiPu public beach park, which is famously over-run with chickens, yet we saw only a handful on resort property during a our stay. They’re doing something right. In contrast, this Princeville resort is fairly over-run. They’re everywhere, including the restaurant’s covered patio. Imagine eating a $50 prime-rib dinner while two roosters are aggressively chasing and fighting with a hen who snatched a piece of bread. They literally had a running battle for ten minutes, back and forth under tables a chairs. My wife had her feet in my lap, and staff acted like it was totally normal. If you have food by the pool, you will be harassed there too. Furthermore, the NeNe’s (Hawaiian goose), being protected as the State Bird, have the run of the place, and they enjoy swimming and pooping in the pools. But the chicken problem is enough for us to never visit this resort again.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences of my lifetime. The front desk staff was good upon check in. We found the room to be only somewhat clean when we arrived . But what happened on our second day as a Marriott gold member & tourist was an absolute nightmare. We received daily texts about the hotel’s happy hour promoting itself & we used the texting service to arrange housekeeping services. On day 2 we left the room & texted we had vacated the room, took off DND & wanted our room cleaned while we were out. The maid cart was next door. We returned to the room just in time to shower & get ready for dinner only to find our room had not been touched & all of our towels were still on the floor where we’d put them to be replaced. But it gets better! When we called & texted the ‘service’ number they told us we left the DND on so they didn’t clean our room. A FLAT OUT LIE! When we explained via text & phone that that was absolutely untrue instead of apologizing or compensating us they repeated they were told the maid tried to enter our room 3x but the DND was on. Funny but my husband & I travel extensively & we’re 100% certain the sign was not on the door nor was it on the door when we returned to find our room untouched. Such lack of integrity! Wow! The next day we TOOK photos upon exiting our room showing that DND was not on & texted them requesting our room be cleaned. Later in the day /5 hours later / prior to our return I texted to ask if our room had been cleaned. In keeping with the MAID Mafia no it had not been & they summoned someone only then to our room. In addition the first two nights we smelled the strong scent of nail polish remover in our room coming from the adjoining room. We called & were told they would investigate it, You can guess their response. They said you are wrong there is no odor there & we are going to look In your room now. We actually did have DnD on then as we’d left for dinner & I told them to stay out. I wouldn’t describe this as merely amateurish but more of a we are always right & the customer is always wrong attitude. Absolutely unacceptable. We found Kauai in general far less welcoming than a decade ago & we don’t plan to return. But if we did we wouldn’t stay at this hotel even if it was free & the only hotel on the island

On our first day, we called guest services as we left the room to make sure that housekeeping made up the room. When we returned to our room, we noted that DnD was not on the door. But, our room had not been serviced. The front desk person and the front desk manager informed us in no uncertain terms that the room was not cleaned because we had left DnD on the door. They didn't say that housekeeping had reported DnD on the door. No, they were certain and insistent that we had left DnD on the door. In fact, the manager informed us that housekeeping had checked our room 3 times and always found DnD on the door. We are experienced travelers who ALWAYS remove DnD to get our room cleaned. We like having a clean room and know that we need to remove DnD. We are also sensible people who can admit a mistake. Had we left DnD on the door, we would merely have called housekeeping, admitted our mistake and asked to have our room cleaned. Very simple. The next day, we contacted guest services again when we left the room and texted them pictures of our door with DnD on the inside and nothing on the outside. We were informed that our room would be cleaned "immediately". 5 hours later when were were about 30 minutes from the hotel, we asked if our room had been cleaned. After some delay, they responded that it had not but that housekeeping would do it immediately. We contacted them again when we approached the hotel and were told that housekeeping had not yet finished cleaning the room. After being gone for 5 hours, we had to wait to get into our room. When we arrived at the room, the comforter was in a pile on the bed. Housekeeping did mange to pull up the sheets and tuck them in. For some reason, housekeeping decided to leave a folded sheet in our sink. Clearly somebody ran in at the last second and did a slap dash job of "cleaning". At least we got clean towels. Again, the evening front desk manager could not understand why we found this to be bad service. The rooms are old and poorly laid out. The only closet hangs your clothes above and onto the broom, vacuum, trash bin, and recycling bin. The bed and couch nearly fill the main portion of the room with little or no space for luggage. We looked out on the quiet pool. One of the protected Hawaiian Geese, Ne Ne, occupied a spot by the pool all night and most of the day. Each morning there were 10-15 goose poops on the edge of the pool. Some poor guy with a broom and dust pan comes around to pick them up and rinse them away. The goose returns throughout the day to make additional deposits, which are eventually picked up. Some poor guy also walks the sidewalks through the resort all day sweeping up goose poops and rinsing the spots. We chose to avoid stepping on the spots left after sweeping and rinsing. I hope the poop patrol men get combat pay, but they are probably at the bottom of the pay scale.

In July, 2024, I received an unsolicited email from Marriott for a 5 night stay at the Westin Ocean Villas at a special rate. It stipulated that my husband and I attend a 90 minute presentation of the Marriott Vacation Club for purchase. The presentation was scheduled the day before our departure. When my husband stated we would not be purchasing the package, the representative, Kyle, became upset and hostile, saying words to effect “why did you come if you’re not interested?” He continued to be upset about questions we asked regarding the assumptions being made as to cost and terms. The sales manager and the last person who spoke with us were calm, but I think they need to assist their sales force to be able to accept a no graciously. The buildings, our room and staff were very nice.

We are owners at Marriott's Ko'Olina Resort on Oahu, but I chose to celebrate a milestone birthday here at the Princeville Westin and found the staff, service and the facility to be impeccable. As soon as we arrived and I encountered Josh, who assisted with our luggage, and Gloria at the front desk, I knew we'd have an awesome stay, and we did. Dabney at the concierge desk was also a real gem to meet and was always a pleasure when we stopped and needed directions or had questions. We were fortunate to have a suite with an ocean view, but everything about the facility was extremely clean and very well maintained. Many have mentioned the number of birds and chickens that grace the grounds, but that's just part of the "culture" of Kauai and there's not much the resort can do other than keep the grounds as clean as possible, which they do very well. We tend to prefer to tour and explore on our own, so we didn't spend much time at the resortl during the day, but when we did, it was a real pleasure to be able to get a chaise lounge at the pool without having to get up early and go down and put a towel down to reserve a seat. We would often go out in the morning and come back mid afternoon and each and every day, we found chaise lounges available without any problem. That is truly rare at a resort of this size. One of the biggest drawbacks is there is no direct beach access but Westin guests can use the beach and facilities at the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay, which is a short drive away. I know everyone has a different experience, but all I can say is that ours was great and I highly recommend. We'll definitely be back!

Bought a vacation club deal in the mail. Very long flights to get here. When we first arrived, everything seemed fine until. No ice anywhere. Had to call for some. Stayed in a studio on the 3rd floor in building 3. The elevator would always stop on 2 every time, very annoying. No hairdryer. Geese sh*t all over the resort. Called about the wasp problem a few times outside on the deck, still not fixed. Can’t even sit outside on the balcony. The MVC presentation was a high sales pitch and looked at the reviews and all are negative, so pass on that. Very quiet area with not much to do. Stay more towards Lihue.

First time here after many stays on Kauai w/Marriott resorts & it was 5 star wonderful! Impeccably kept grounds. Room was quite spacious, recently renovated & beautiful view. LOVED that the AC kept us comfortably cool plus the BR ceiling fan made sleeping beneath the downfilled duvet heavenly. We don't do the resort activities in Hawaii, opting instead to tour the island. That said, it was the perfect resort to leisurely stroll the area, walk to the nearby shopping area w/a few restaurants & chill at sunset. We were thrilled that is was soooo quiet. Staying in Princeville area was a welcome change from more busy area of Poipu. This Westin was perfect for the type of vacation we enjoy & highly recommend if peaceful Hawaiian chill is on your agenda!

I have to say after reading the reviews I was skeptical about this resort Although we had been here before I found this resort to be super clean well kept Our room was clean. The bed was comfortable and our view was amazing. Upon arrival we were late getting in and I was worried However we were treated so well by the front desk. Abel was welcoming and gracious. After such a long trip coming from the East Coast the bell hop Will kindly brought our luggage to our room and asked if we need anything he brought us water and ice I have to say again that I was extremely satisfied with our stay at this resort we will definitely come back and stay at the Westin

We annually visit Kauai but this is our First time staying on this property. This was a 2nd week of a three week vacation on the island. We are long time Marriott Legacy owners and this was an exchange with II. Check-in, pools, spa, workout room (includes steam and sauna) and bbq were quite nice. Despite having a studio unit it was adequately stocked, clean and Hawaiian style comfortably furnished. Parking is easy and check in process/local offerings were useful. Grounds are well maintained, have a lovely view but there is no easily accessible beach. The major downfall that tainted our guest experience was the location of one of two designated smoking area to our room and the dining/BBQ public area for Bldg 2. ...in short the response received by Arceli T to the smoke effects on our traveling party. was challenging. The property identifies as a Breathe Westin environment and is purportedly a smoke free property. Not so! In our case, certainly a bit of coaching on effectively managing the room inventory is appropriate as would be how to efficiently address guest concerns. A quality response, a pleasant/non-degrading vocal tenor and empathy goes a LONG way to moving toward an adequate and de-escalated resolution. With numerous choices for a quality stay in Kauai...we will not be back to this location.

What has happened to the service at the Westin Princeville? Such a beautiful Property but the service has really slipped since our last visit a couple of years ago. Cocktail service around the pool is a day to day option. How hard can it be to find help that would make great tips? Apparently the yoga instructor was away so yoga cancelled for the entire week. How hard is it to get a backfill? You advertise something, deliver. Sunday, 8/16 was locals day at the pool. No security, no management presence. How hard is to ask someone without a towel and their own beverages what room they are in? Get rid of the locals and let your paying guest have a place around the pool . One day room service finished our room after 5:00PM. Not to mention room service is EOD. I get that Covid has changed things everywhere but the prices continue to rise.

The Westin Princeville is a nice play to stay. It aims to provide a luxury experience and generally lives up to this. Positives include the attractive grounds, beautiful pool area, and lots of amenities and service. I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 because of higher cost and a few small issues (air conditioning needed repairing - service was quick, and hot tub at pool was not working). Also, the view is nice, but no direct access to the beach.
