My husband and I visit this hotel every year, usually in January or February. We love this property, and we love the people/staff even more. Everyone at this Resort is absolutely amazing!! Our beach host, Virginia Dzib is absolutely amazing, and we love her (she has become like family) along with Facundo, who is the bartender, our servers Efren and Esperanza(sp)/manager. The food is very good!! Our housekeeper, who is a little Mighty Mouse!! She cleaned our room and replenished it every day. She was amazing. Fernando, the concierge, made us feel like we were home, and he welcomes us home every year. My husband went for breakfast every day and was greeted by Team Gaviotas, which included Oscar, Belem, Paloma, Diana, Maggie, Jorge Canul, Sergio and Xochitl He said they treated him like a king and actually took a picture with him and gave him a goodbye message on our last day saying how much they would miss him. I never met these wonderful people because breakfast was always too early for me. But he said it was an excellent buffet. They call him by name every morning and new knew what kind of coffee he wanted. They sat him at his favorite spot every day. Amazing customer service!!! Every one of the staff members mentioned goes above and beyond! The only negative thing I can say is they need to update the showers, as they do leak, and it is time to start renovating the rooms. They're still nice, but they're starting to look a little haggard. The beds and pillows are amazing and so comfortable. We get the rooms with the hot tub out on the balcony, and the size of the rooms is very spacious, and the view is absolutely incredible! I We absolutely love it here!!

The location next to the beach was gorgeous with crystal blue waters and fish to snorkel with.
There were enough loungers by the beach and the pool and the staff were great with beach and poolside service for drinks and food.
The room was big, modern and clean and the balcony had amazing views over the ocean.
The food in the main restaurant was good and in the breakfast restaurant there were plenty of options.
The points that let it down were that if you are not all inclusive there are not many other dining options within walking distance. Also the maid service was rubbish as they didn’t come to service our room before 4pm everyday even though on one day we called the desk to specifically request it was done before 1pm which didn’t happen. We then called down again at 3pm but no one showed up.

Overall great hotel for a couple days of warm weather! A little different than a standard US Westin, but I think a tropical hotel is always going to be a little different, and that's okay. We're on vacation. :)
The pros:
Staff: Everyone was so friendly, accommodating, and hardworking -- from front desk staff, housekeeping staff, restaurant staff, beach staff, bellhop and luggage staff. A few hiccups in efficiency but overall great.
Room: Our room was lovely, with a big balcony and view of the ocean! The king size bed was SO comfy, and the A/C kept the room nice and cool (sometimes too cool haha, it was a struggle to get it to go above 62F degrees sometimes even though it was set at 75 but we finally figured out to just turn it off once in a while!) Consistent hot water and good water pressure.
Housekeeping: Great experience here! Room was kept super clean and restocked with the essentials like towels, coffee, water, and the big fluffy bedding on the king size bed was so welcome after a long day.
Food: At Gaviotas, which we ended up going to for most meals due to ambiance and view, we found our faves eventually -- the guacamole, tuna tartare, mahi mahi ceviche, fish tacos, and cochinita pibil tacos were great. Breakfast buffet was also always great. We ordered room service a couple of times and it arrived relatively quickly. At Gaviotas, even the day it was pretty slammed at breakfast time with a wait, we got a table within 10 minutes.
Beach: Maybe just due to timing of our trip, but we never had an issue finding a beach chair due to overcrowding. Sitting on the beach was great, and beach service was overall good. There is snorkeling from the shore right in front of the hotel, which is nice -- not really any coral reef to see but you can still see a few fish.
The cons:
Room readiness: Our room wasn't available when we arrived, so we waited around the hotel. The hotel said that check in should be available at 3pm, but it was about 4:30 before we could get in our room (even with Titanium Bonvoy status). When we got to the room, with the luggage attendant, housekeeping was still in the room cleaning, so we waited for a while outside the door. Not a huge deal because the room itself was great -- but maybe they just struggle to keep up with demands sometimes.
Minor maintenance issues: The digital key lock on our room broke twice and our keys would not let us in our room, which was kind of annoying. The upside is that they seem to have maintenance on hand at all times, who were at our door within 5 minutes to fix it both times.
Food/drinks: While we eventually found our faves at Gaviotas, some of the food we tried was not great. The tuna tostada appetizer was two extremely stale tostadas (like, inedible) with imitation crab meat like you find in sushi. The house sauvignon blanc was dark yellow like a chardonnay and not great, and they were out of most wines I tried to order from their wine list. (But I did eventually find a good cava they had!)
Lobby smell: Maybe this is a temporary issue, but the entire lobby smells like sewer gas... bleh! Not that lovely typical "Westin smell" I was expecting!
At the end of the day, the last con is that we had to leave... which I think summarizes that overall we had a good time!

Westin All Inclusive was a nice surprise. We have stayed at other resorts in Cozumel that were more bungalo style so were doubtful about a high rise. We absolutely loved our ocean view balcony! The bed was very comfortable. The snorkeling was amazing right from our beach! SOooo many fish, and corals. Even eels, rays, and octopus and squid!! And I cannot even express how wonderful the staff was!!!! Too many to name, but Belem, a hostess, Manuel, Vicky amd Effren were beach servers that remembered our room numbers and preferences! Facundo became almost out private bartender, helping us explore new drinks including the jellyfish!!! Jorge, “el capitán “was a very special overseer at one of the restaurants.
I know I have missed some names and I apologize. Everyone was great!
The menus did not change much, but all was good and the tuna tartar and the Habanero cream soup were exceptional!!!

Service is great! Especially Virginia and Alex - by the pool. They remember us each day and knew our drink orders.
Weather wasn’t as good as we would have liked.
Spa was amazing. Swedish massage ask for Gilliam and Nadine for a couples massage. They were both really spectacular.

We enjoyed our room on the 12th floor—the beds and pillows were excellent and very comfortable. The room had plenty of electrical outlets and the decor was nice. The ac worked great!
Virginia was one of the servers at the outdoor lunch area, and she did a wonderful job of bringing us drinks and our food. All of the staff were great checking in and getting us our room.
The main thing that we didn’t like was that there was only two singers one night—no other entertainment. We like more activities going on. Otherwise, its quiet and the beach area and pool area is nice. Rooms have a beautiful ocean view.

Chose this hotel after reading mostly excellent reviews.
I will break down the good and the not-so-good
Location and hotel grounds:
Good location if you like quiet. Situated at the north end of the island, a quick 10 dollar cab ride from Cozumel’s centre. Super easy ride from airport. Very well cared for grounds, always someone cleaning, raking the beach, washing windows. The one thing I will say is that there is a very foul smell in the lobby and elevators. It’s rather off putting when you walk into the hotel, smells a bit like sewage, not sure if it’s the water feature in the lobby, but it stinks :(
Staff:
Overall, super friendly staff. They go out of their way to be accommodating. Always say hi. Always smiling. I found a couple of the women at the front desk to be stand-offish, not very interested in helping me when I needed something.
Beach:
As in most of Cozumel, rocky outcroppings, small beach, but sufficient. Beautiful water, plenty of seating, although our weather was terrible all week, so not sure if the seating would be sufficient if it was hot and sunny.
Beach is very clean, and excellent beach service. Awesome snorkelling along the shore.
Rooms:
I made the mistake of not booking a room with a balcony. The rooms are very generously sized, amazing views from every room, but with no balcony, I felt like I was in a fishbowl. The upgrade at the hotel level was expensive. Rooms are well equipped, bed and pillows comfortable. Bathrooms great, don’t bother bringing shampoo etc, as it is supplied. Iron, ironing board, hair dryer, robes, plenty of room to store your belongings. Good blackout curtains. USB ports bedside. Excellent air con.Tv only has one or two English channels. Would have been nice to have smart tv capabilities. Housekeeping was immaculate. Be sure to tip. Good wifi.
Food and drink:
We had the all inclusive package as it seemed to make economical sense. Was definitely worth it. Breakfast buffet was really good, plenty of options that didn’t change daily and a few that did to add variety. Coffee very good. Views from gaviota wonderful.
Lunch we ate mostly at the beach bar. Great service, small menu, but mostly sufficient.
Dinner could either be had at gaviotas or cuzamil. They say reservations required but there was never anyone there. As for the food, it was good, but honestly, I am very surprised to hear anyone say that it is excellent. I think they spend too much time worrying about presentation and not enough time worrying about flavour. I would say I’m the type of diner, who doesn’t need a drizzle or a reduction or a vegetable rose,to enjoy my meal, but if that’s your thing, you’ll like it here. Some dishes were great and others just mediocre. We did get VERY tired of the same menu day in and day out. If I could make a suggestion, it would be that they have a rotation of menus to keep it interesting. Either that, or offer daily specials. By day 4, we had exhausted everything that we wanted to try. Ended up going out to eat three times during the week. As for the gratuities situation…. I understand that dinners and lunch are a la carte. Many all inclusive packages have an a la carte option. But here, they present you with a cheque and ask you to sign for it. You don’t pay anything, but dinners here are EXPENSIVE. With apps, a drink or two and mains, you’re looking at a couple hundred bucks. That being said, you are expected to tip on the total bill, so, personally, I spent way more here on gratuities that I ever have at any all inclusive. It’s almost like a bill is presented so that you know how much tip you should leave, rather than just acknowledging that you have a bracelet for the all inclusive option and therefore, don’t pay. Obviously, at an a la carte AI, I always tip, but this system made the trip feel more expensive. Servers made it clear that they prefer to be tipped in cash.
Drinks. Bar selection for mixed drinks was mediocre. No cocktail menu, which was really weird. Sometimes I would stand there and have to google some ideas of good drinks. The one thing I absolutely HATED was their choice of juices. EVERY juice, with the exception of orange juice was sickly sweet, but sweetened with artificial sweeteners 🤢 it made the drinks taste absolutely terrible, and artificial. Even their pina coladas had this terrible aftertaste. Tropical island + 4 star hotel and they can’t have natural juices? Yuck. I got so sick of the drinks in a very few short days. They did make a pretty good Bloody Mary at the lobby bar, but you can only have so many of those…. Coffees were only available at gaviotas. The lobby bar machine was broken for a few days and when it wasn’t, it didn’t make a “proper latte”. It was one of those automated machines. It would be nice if they invested in a good machine at the beach bar.
Spa: can’t speak to the quality of the spa, but, in my opinion, 500usd is a steep price for a couples massage experience. Next door at playa azul, they offer a couples massage for 155 for 2 people. Not as swanky, but what a deal!
Sorry if this review had you yawning, but I wanted it to really paint a picture of the whole experience. I’m pretty sure after touring the whole island, this seems to be the best hotel. It really is quite nice, and we enjoyed ourselves, immensely. With a few tweaks, here and there, the experience would have been stellar. If you get a good deal here on a package, go for it. It’s really quite lovely. Would I come back? Too many places to explore in the Caribbean, but i would recommend it to anyone who is looking to see Cozumel. Thanks, Westin, for a lovely week !

This is a cautionary tale for anyone who wants to stay at this hotel. After weeks of researching places to stay in Cozumel, my boyfriend and I chose the Westin Cozumel. We booked through Expedia and received confirmation emails from both Expedia and the hotel. As we were about to board the plane, I got an email from the hotel saying the reservation was canceled. Very confused, I called the hotel, and they said my card didn't go through. I didn't know why they would charge my card hours before we arrived, as I used my Apple Pay card to hold the reservation and planned to use another card for the actual stay. The hotel told me they could do nothing and to contact Expedia. Expedia was also confused. They called the hotel and were told it was overbooked and that we were out of luck. I couldn't believe it! We had to scramble to find another hotel. Luckily, we found something, but it wasn't the hotel experience we hoped for. If you want to stay here, plan to book through the hotel website and use the same credit card you will use for your stay.

I would say our stay was okay. The staff is friendly and attentive but this hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade.
There is a very stinky smell in the lobby which may be related to the water feature in the lobby or bathrooms nearby. Most common areas need a paint job - rooms need a good deep clean (especially the balcony) and some quick fixes (I.e loose fixtures, discolored hard surfaces, doors that don’t close).
The spa staff is talented (thank you Sara!) but again, some clean up and upgrade is needed. I saw therapist chairs peeling, discolored walls, etc. it just didn’t feel clean.
This just doesn’t feel like a Westin - I just think they let the property age and they have made some poor decisions that detract from the atmosphere (big orange construction cones on the rooftop pool deck)
One HUGE CON: we made the mistake of going with the airport transportation that the hotel recommended, Amstar. We received non-stop texts, calls, emails, and in person pitches before and during our stay asking if we needed assistance with tours and excursions - even after I told them we were not interested. I will not use them again - it was so disruptive and actually soured our stay at the Westin. Even though this is a different company than the Westin, it was a very poor recommendation from the hotel and they know it is going on because they allow Amstar to hang out in their lobby all day.
I was expecting a seamless pick up at the airport but it seems like they purposely didn’t have the car ready so that they could give us a sales pitch while we waited. Very disappointing.

BEST STAFF EVER!!!
This is our second time at the Westin Cozumil. And the unbelievably great staff are the reason we came back, again! They are some of the best staff we have ever experienced. They definitely provide over-the-top service at every turn. It's hard to single out any one person but some stand outs include: Fernando (Bell Man), Lizeth in Reservations, Vicki in Housekeeping, Polemo and Jorge in Graviotas restaurant and then the whole gang at the pool's snack bar (Alex, Vicki, and Efrin). The Front Desk though, generally was less accommodating and do not offer the same level of service as the rest of the areas.
BRING A PARKA -THE ROOMS ARE FREEZING!!!
The one thing though that will keep us from returning is the frigid AC in the hotel rooms -- which many guests were complaining about. The hotel has installed 'sensors' which override any temperature setting a guest may make. This results in the room temp being 'freezing' to the point you can't sleep. In addition their mattresses were really uncomfortable and need to be replaced. Overall, maintenance of the property is an issue, where numerous issues, albeit cosmetic, have been left unfixed. We will likely not return to the Westin Cozumil until they fix the 'room A/C sensors'.

We stayed for a week and had an amazing time! We did not go with the all inclusive as we wanted to try other restaurants and had excursions planned. Our room on the 11th floor had a balcony with a gorgeous view. All of the staff were helpful and friendly. Housekeeping did a great job daily and even left us some towel art one day! The snorkeling in front of the hotel was lovely, lots of pretty fish. The air conditioning worked a little too well, our room got cold a few times - not complaining!! I agree with other reviews that people claim beach loungers and umbrellas with their towels early in the day, making it hard to find one if you wait to go to the pool or beach later. More of both loungers and umbrellas would be a helpful addition. We loved our stay at the Westin and look forward to returning in the future!!

We stayed at the Westin last year, and really loved it. So we returned this spring, but I have to say that we were disappointed. We upgraded our room to one with a balcony, but the room had several problems. The phone did not work, and after several attempts to fix it, the staff was unable to do so. They told us we had to switch rooms if we wanted a phone that worked. We did not want to pack and unpack a second time so we passed on that. There were repeated no towels or few towels in our room. Since we could not call down for them, we had to go to the front desk to request towels. Half of the time, they did not come, and we would have to request them again. However, the biggest problem was the bathroom. The bathroom was dark, and the lighting was bad. However, the bigger problem was the tub/shower. It was awful. Most of the time, you could not get enough hot water. Worse, the tub leaked all over the floor every time you took a shower. They had attempted to fix it, but the lining was high making it difficult to get into the shower, and even then, the shower leaked everywhere. I was surprised because last year, our shower was on a corner, totally glassed in, and never leaked. It was perfect. But this "upgraded" room was terrible. I got very sick the day before we left. It was difficult to get bananas and rice--the only things I could eat--from the kitchen. In the afternoon, they told us they were out of bananas. I could not order a simple bowl of rice. So, I did not eat for two days. The staff was very good at getting me to the hospital when I needed to go. For that, I am grateful. However, I did not feel that the Westin was worth what we paid this time.

Stayed three nights in late March 2025. The property is just as depicted in the pictures... well maintained & beautiful.
We found the staff to be both extremely friendly and professional.
Our room was a larger king balcony room... clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff did a great job. They kept us well stocked with both bottled water and coffee... thanks to a daily request note and generous daily tip.
The views from our room & balcony were simply stunning! Thanks to the two chairs and coffee table, the balcony was a great place to start our days with coffee, incredible views, and the sounds of the waves!
The only drawback to the room was the lack of TV options, especially if you don't speak fluent Spanish (there were a few channels in Engish). We were lucky to have a laptop, Netflix, and an HDMI cable to connect to the TV in the room.
Since we only stayed 3 nights (and we spent 2 of 3 days exploring Cozumel), we chose not to go with the "all inclusive option". That being said, we found the pricing to be reasonable in the bars, restaurants, and room service for a resort.
As a "Titanium for Life" status holder with Marriott, I would highly recommend this resort!

Just returned from a 5 night stay. Hotel is nice with great ocean view rooms. AC in room was coldest ever had in Mexico and the beds were comfy. We did not do all inclusive but did breakfast only as we like to eat at the local restaurants. Breakfast was good and drinks weren’t too expensive. Only negatives are they could use more beach chairs and umbrellas and more chairs at both pools. Also the fountain in the lobby seemed to have an odor. Not sure if needs chlorine but it did cause a smell when in the lobby at times. Staff is friendly and helpful. We would return.

Amazing massage therapy! Carefully worked each muscle group, especially neck and shoulders where I needed it most. Best massage I’ve had, and I’ve had quite a number. Gillian is an expert, and I would love to have her again. She is really incredibly sensitive to the anatomy and very strong
