3 nights in March after disembarking from the Rovos Rail. Warm welcome in a hotel that has a wonderful old-world colonial feel about it. Very friendly staff and good attentive service throughout our stay. Room was perfectly adequate and well serviced. Good selection at breakfast and terrace food was good too. Be careful with the wine selection as these are generally hugely overpriced. Cocktails are fabulous though. Very difficult to get change of $s from the cashier in the lobby ; being told to keep coming back later. This is not really acceptable from a 5* hotel. The bar or Stanley Room has loads of potential but the seating arrangements could be improved. Overall a very pleasant stay in a beautiful location. Highly recommended.

A hotel of legend. A jewel. An undertaking of epic proportions to maintain its reputation and now satisfy clients from the 21st century. The unreplicable quality of smiling service ( Vusa) was outstanding from everyone. The Stable room was gorgeous. However, the terrace food needs some attention ( disappointing in taste and poor attention to detail) and the fine dining offering was a fixed menu so “regular” in appeal without flair nor colour that it did not merit a visit.

The hotel, facilities, people, location all five stars. A real sense of the history whilst not at all dated, the people were so friendly and professional. The buffet and local show at the Jungle restaurant was amazing as was the pool area. The view of the bridge and constant falls spray you can never tire of. It was expensive for us, but worth it as we have lovely memories for us to cherish.

There is a lot to like about this grand old hotel. Firstly, the location is simply stunning and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Our room was large, reasonably well equipped and full of natural light. Service, as you would expect, is excellent and the hotel exudes plenty of colonial charm; just strolling through the magnificent public rooms takes you back to Victorian times. If you have time, the pool area is also well worth a visit
What prevents this being a 5* review is that there are just too many niggles. The food (terrace) is very average and expensive. Breakfast is also a little disappointing. Also, be careful if you are specifically after a room with a view as only the high end suites have uninterrupted vistas.
Would we stay here again, absolutely. Though next time we would look to dine in the town itself which probably offer better and more cost effective options.

Good experience ruined by greed and inflexibility
Fanastic hotel at a great location, friendly staff but inflexible management. We asked for a few more hours late checkout and we were prepared to pay a fee if necessary. Greed destroyed our experience unfortunately. Late checkout 400 USD…
Historic hotel near the falls.

Three restaurants, two outdoors and one indoor. Indoor is fine dining requiring a jacket.
Warning if handicapped there are lots of stairs with zero provision for walkers or chairs.
Internet was non functional in the rooms. Only worked in the main hotel lounge.
Food was decent. The Jungle lounge was a good distance from the main hotel and was difficult to navigate in the dark.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel, which was a delightful surprise for us after our visit about ten years ago. Back then, the hotel hadn’t undergone any renovations, so we were thrilled to experience the transformation. We chose this beautiful location to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday, and it exceeded our expectations.
The new rooms are stunningly designed in a contemporary style, featuring spacious walk-in bathrooms that added a touch of luxury to our experience. The hotel boasts three exquisite restaurants, and we decided to indulge in the à la carte menu. The food was simply excellent and made our dining experiences truly memorable.
We are already looking forward to our next visit and hope to stay a bit longer to soak in the beauty of the surroundings. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at the Victoria Falls Hotel for making our stay so special!
Warm regards,
Karl and Misi

Very disappointed with the management of this hotel. The hotel itself is wonderful with beautiful grounds and large rooms. Very colonial to look at and I am sure that back in the day everyone’s needs would have been catered for. We had been on the Rovos train for 11 nights where the treatment of their guests is first class. Then we had 2 nights in this hotel. We were given a room with frosted windows so we could not see out. In truth, though the room was large it still felt slightly clostophobic. We did complain to reception but they did nothing other than to tell the cleaner we were moving to a new room but it never happened.
What was even worse was the feeling that we were being “done over” when it came to ordering a bottle of wine. We were told there was no wine menu due to it being changed. We accepted that and said what we would like and that we wanted to know the price before opening it. The waitress came back with a bottle and started to open it, we stopped her and asked the price. She didn’t know so went off to ask. US$90. We said know she then told us they had another one and that was cheaper… US$88. In the end we said we would pay no more than US$40 and one was bought. The next day we were given a food menu at lunch time and in the back was a wine menu. That evening, at dinner, we were told there was no menu! What are they playing at?
For a very expensive hotel I expect to be treated with respect and not like an idiot.

A traditional hotel over 100 years old, formerly for railroad workers. Today it is a luxury hotel, 5 stars. Modernized but old style is preserved, beautiful garden, friendly service.
Now the incredible thing: as an international businessman, I have stayed in many hotels, both cheaper and expensive. But i never experienced the following, also not in 4 stars, and this for unbelieveable us$ 550 per night for 2 persons:
- Minibar: yes, there is one. But empty! so we went to the reception and told them that they probably forgot to fill it up. "Oh no, you are in the cheapest category ($550!), there are no drinks in these rooms". So i asked if the other rooms which got drinks in the minibar get them free of charge? "Oh certainly not, they pay for it. But you can go to our restaurants and buy drinks". Common, what kind of 5 star, or even 4, is this, empty minibar, where they even could make money on it!!??
- Restaurants, they got 3: one is inside, only properly dressed allowed, meaning jacket (tie?) for men, ladies elegant. No thank you, not in a place like this where people walk around in safari dress.
The 2 other restaurants are OUTSIDE, great, but not when the temperatur during the day is around 40°C (100-110°F), in the evening not much cooler. No restaurant available with aircon except the highly elegant one. Sorry, this doesnt work, at least not for us.
Overall, yes, nice hotel, but these 2 topics, arrogant for not having drinks for the "cheap" $ 550 rooms, and no restaurant with Aircon... never again.

Our breakfast location under thatch at Jungle Junction was lovely, the food delicious. Lunch and dinners on the terrace were a treat.
The staff were absolutely charming and helpful. Visiting the falls by taxi was very easy and arranged by the travel desk.
We noticed that the upkeep of the hotel and beautiful grounds was excellent.
We would love to stay here again and would absolutely recommend it.

I stayed in this hotel 40 years ago and loved it! I felt the same recently. Its an old colonial hotel with modern touches. When my husband & I decided to visit Africa, I knew I had to show him The Victoria Falls Hotel. The rooms are beautiful and very clean. The food was excellent, buffet breakfast has several choices of hot & cold dishes, meats, fruit, cereal, breads and more. The staff were friendly & helpful. It is within walking distance to the town. The swimming pool is a lovely place to relax after a busy morning exploring the falls.

For a long time we have been looking to stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel before a trip to Botswana and finally we have completed our trip and were not disappointed. We stayed two nights before heading across the border and one night before our flight home - both stays were delightful. Our rooms were very spacious, clean and fresh, with brilliant air conditioning. I loved the character of the public areas and the history displayed on the walls of the corridors.
We ate on the terrace and enjoyed the informality of this restaurant, we found it value for money for a 5* hotel, compared to the UK. The views of the falls and bridge were lovely. Breakfast selection was very good, served in the Jungle junction.
All hotel staff were courteous, friendly and happy to help when needed.
Yes there was noise from helicopter flights over the falls, which would be the same for any hotel situated so close to the falls that you can hear them.
The one night’s stay before our long flight home was an absolute joy after being on Safari - we had left some luggage with the porters while we were in Botswana, due to safari weight restrictions. On our return we had chance to freshen up and swap to hard case luggage and suitable clothes for our trip home. This was an added bonus for us.
We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel has undergone a facelift but regret that it was done on the cheap and this is clearly evident on our recent stay.
An example is the staircase which should have a wooden balustrade, but is now cheap steel, and cheap carpets you would find in a 3 star establishment.
The rooms are upgraded but certainly nowhere close to a 5 star standard. All the woodwork is veneered chipboard, no solid wood one would expect from a 5 star hotel.
The bathrooms within the reception are in a poor state.
Our stay was enjoyable but the Hotel is between 3-4 star and this needs to be re classified urgently as there are numerous very good hotels at the Falls now, and this hotel WAS regarded as the finest in the Town.

We had an enjoyably luxurious 2 day stay in a ground floor room overlooking the grounds and beyond to the Falls. We ate and drank well and the staff were charming, if occasionally even over-attentive.
Two issues, one minor, the other unworthy of such a grand hotel:
- The private residents’ lounge, The Bulawayo Room, is a waste of time. Nice to be greeted there instead of standing at Reception but there are few facilities, the room is monitored excessively by nearby staff and the complimentary “drinks” offerings are miserly. It looks good but several bottles are empty or undrinkable with only limited gin & vodka available and wine severely restricted. All for show …
- Checking out was time-consuming and inefficient. We signed off on our bill and were called in our taxi on the way to the airport for an overlooked charge of $27 from the previous evening. A credit card payment over the ‘phone was not acceptable and, upon the hotel’s request, we ended up giving our taxi driver almost all our remaining cash for him to pay the hotel. For goodness sake people, it was your mistake and the final bill had been presented & paid. For $27, just suck it up. It left a very, very bad impression and is undignified behaviour from a hotel of this standard.

We were so excited at visiting this high end hotel and once arriving the hotel entrance and communal rooms and gardens did not disappoint. We were told initially around 2pm that our room ready!
Once arriving in our room we saw the tv on and clicked to watch the video about the hotel to see all that was available at this beautiful hotel - message came up ‘video unavailable’.
The next morning when we went for breakfast we wanted to put the do not disturb sign out and couldn’t find one - there was a man cleaning a room opposite and we asked him and he showed us the electronic switch - it did not work! He tried and the same result.
Once coming back to the room we went to get our money out of the safe and it didn’t work. We called down for help and two men worked on it for at least 30 minutes and then advised us that it would take a long time and suggested we go for lunch.by this time a third man came in. We said we were not hungry and wanted to go to Vic Falls and couldn’t without our money and said we would stay in the room until the safe was opened. One minute later they were anble to open the safe.
On return from the Falls we wanted to shower before dinner and once in saw that the soap that was there was no longer! Had to get out (no bath mat) and take the liquid soap from the hand basin.
The window which was in the shower cubicle was full of mould.
There was a plug socket by the big mirror…..thus did not work for the hairdryer.
Most of the staff could use some more basic etiquette training for this high end 5 star hotel.
We stayed at the Intercontinental hotel at Jo’bug airport which was far superior in all regards.
Also when chatting g to another resident whilst walking through the hall, he shouted’watch out’ we stopped in our tracks and tge. Saw a vacuum cord at least 13 inches above floor level being pulled from upstairs. The three of us were so close to tripping and called up to let them know and received a very nonchalant shrug.
We mentioned these points when asked whether everything was ok but no response.
For such a beautiful hotel in gorgeous grounds it was a very disappointing experience. The room no was 77.
