A truly wonderful stay at the Royal Sands. Just as many reviews have said, this hotel provides pure relaxation. We spent four incredible nights in January 2025, from the minute we stepped onto the island the staff go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful stay. Royal Sands check-in lounge is located at a small office in Sihanoukville marina. A warm welcome was received but the office soon became very crowded and uncomfortable, we were very relieved when it was finally time to transfer to the resort. Once we arrived things took a much better pace and peaceful approach. Our accommodation was just stunning. We loved our spacious room and super king-size bed. The bathroom was well appointed, and the outdoor shower was a new experience! Both restaurants were fantastic and provided a good variety for all tastes. Breakfast had all the selection you would expect of a top-class hotel. Happy hour is a great opportunity to sit, relax and take in the most amazing sunsets.. The beach is amazing, one of the best I have experienced and great for people who are not strong swimmers. Sadly, the sun loungers do not match the quality and luxury of the rest of the hotel, quite a surprise given the attention to detail elsewhere. It’s the staff that make this stay so special, I would recommend to anyone wanting to experience rest and relaxation. One thing to be aware of, if your next stop after the Royal Sands involves a flight to Kuala Lumpa or Siem Reap you could end up spending over 4 hours in a very small airport. This is because there are limited boats from the island, we had to take the 8 am boat as the next one (12:45) is too late to meet flight times. Considering everyone on the boat was on our flight I think this is an area the hotel management could look at and introduce a level of flexibility.

This was a fabulous experience , from moment we stepped on board the speedboat for an exhilarating 1 hour trip to the island. We were met on the pier by smiling waving staff and they were wonderfully attentive from that moment onwards. Our bungalow was top class - large and right on the beach , with our own verandah and relaxing outdoor shower . The food at the restaurants was really high class- the pastry chef is very talented - best croissants tasted in our whole Vietnam/ Cambodian trip. We loved watching the sunset at the Chill bar on the beach. We had a great morning out with Savi canoeing through the mangroves to the see. We also loved our catamaran sail with Den , who accompanied us as we aren’t confident sailors. An unforgettable stay. We will recommend far and wide.

Every aspect—location, staff, activities, and service—was exceptional. Our journey began smoothly with a warm welcome at the Royal Sands check-in lounge in Sihanoukville, where we could relax with a coffee before being escorted to the boat. The transfer to the resort was well-organized, setting the tone for the impeccable service we would receive throughout our stay. The beach at Royal Sands is simply stunning—pristine white sand, crystal-clear waters, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it feel like paradise. We spent countless hours just soaking up the beauty, and the resort’s happy hour on the beach during sunset was the perfect way to end each day. Sitting with a cocktail in hand, watching the sky turn shades of pink and orange over the ocean, was pure magic. The activities at Royal Sands were a highlight. We did four outings, each unique and memorable: * Kayaking through the mangroves with our amazing guide, Johnny, who shared fascinating local insights. * A snorkel tour with two stops, led by Johnny and our skilled captain, Sothat—both of whom made the experience fun, safe, and personal. * A self-guided bike tour, where we explored the island at our own pace. Even when I had a minor fall, the resort’s medic was on the scene within minutes, showcasing their attentiveness and care. * A visit to the local village, where we sat on the beach with our drinks, taking in the peaceful surroundings. Watching the local children play along the waterline as the sun set was a truly special and heartwarming experience. The food was outstanding, offering a delicious variety, and the service was nothing short of excellent. Every staff member was friendly, professional, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay special. A special mention goes to Johnny and Sothat—their warmth, expertise, and attentiveness made all the difference. Johnny went above and beyond to tailor our tours to exactly what we wanted, while Sothat ensured smooth sailing (literally!) with a smile. Royal Sands is a slice of paradise, perfect for those seeking a luxurious, well-organized, and deeply relaxing getaway. We left with beautiful memories and can’t wait to return! Highly recommended!

This really is an amazing place. Absolutely beautiful. Pristine clean white beaches. Lovely villas. Delicious food and friendly staff. We couldn't decide who was our favourite! Don't worry about what you read about sandflies. We didn't have any problem. They harrow the beach every day with a tractor and give you complimentary repellent just in case. We would definitely recommend and would go back every year if we could for peace and quiet and a total switch off.

The restaurant food and breakfast was delicious, the customer service was outstanding, the beach was among the best I have ever seen and the villa was perfect as were the sunsets and cocktails! A perfect anniversary trip for us! Outstanding and I would stay nowhere else on Koh Rong! Perfect!

The resort is perfectly located on a long white sandy beach. The villas are spacious and very comfortable, the staff is kind and helpful, especially Lam in orginizing activites. The Spa is spectaculat, offering amazing treatments especially yoga and stretching with Lucky, highly reccommended!

We’re a husband-and-wife duo in our 30s who’ve traveled to about 20 different countries, always seeking a balance of comfort, value, and memorable experiences. We provide a bit about ourselves so you know where our expectations come from—what matters to us might not matter as much to a family with kids or a retired couple looking for a more leisurely experience. From the moment we arrived at the island, it was clear The Royal Sands Koh Rong is a special place. The experience began at the pier, where the staff warmly welcomed us with waves and smiles as we docked. A golf cart escorted us to the main lobby, where we were greeted with a welcome drink, hot towel, and a brief info session—a perfect way to ease into the stay. The check-in process was seamless and efficient, and within minutes, we were off in another golf cart to our beachfront pool villa (highly recommended!). 🛏️ Room: The villa was stunning—gorgeous, well-appointed, and designed for ultimate relaxation. Every detail felt luxurious, and the views from every angle—the villa, the deck, and the pool—were simply spectacular. 💁‍♂️ Service: The service was top-notch, with staff always attentive and genuinely eager to make our stay perfect. This was easily one of the most pampered experiences we’ve had (and we’ve even been on a private safari). It would be a crime not to mention our incredible tour guide, Sinoun. He accompanied us on all four of our tours, making each experience feel unique and special. 🏊‍♂️ Amenities & Common Spaces: While we didn’t use the common-area pool (because, honestly, why would we when we had our own private pool overlooking the beach?), we fully indulged in the dining options. Both restaurants and room service were fantastic, offering excellent food at reasonable prices. The hotel also hosts movie nights, which was an unexpected but fun touch, and for some reason, there were fireworks on our first night! The only minor downside? WiFi was a bit temperamental, though honestly, it’s better to just disconnect and enjoy the surroundings. 💡 Final Thoughts: Would we stay here again? Absolutely, without hesitation. The breathtaking setting, impeccable service, and overall value make this an easy recommendation. If you’re looking for luxury and tranquility in Koh Rong, this is the place to be. I’d be remiss not to mention that, during our snorkeling and island tour, we passed a competing luxury resort (which will remain nameless). From our view on the boat, we weren’t impressed—the accommodations looked underwhelming, and the beach was noticeably small. Let’s just say, we had no regrets about choosing The Royal Sands.

Loved the hotel on an idyllic beach with beautiful villas and pools. Superb restaurant and really lovely staff. What’s not to like? Sadly the sandflies are awful and despite loads of insect repellent, my partner and I were badly bitten daily. Such a shame as the place is beautiful.

The staff will go out of their way to help solve any problem. The Cambodians are very warm and friendly people. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel anytime.

From the moment we were checked in at the port lounge, we were greeted with friendliness and efficiency. The captain of the boat for our hotel transfer was safe and confident. On arrival to the island, we were greeted by waving staff members and this unwavering kindness persisted throughout the stay. The villa was clean, stunning and personalised as we were staying for our honeymoon. The staff were flexible to requests and accommodated our wishes at every point. The sand was immaculate and the turquoise sea was stunning. We did extra activities with Sinoun and he was knowledgeable, caring and really made the extra effort with special touches. The food was delicious, both Western & Khmer. The staff throughout our stay were professional, kind, genuine and always caring for us. They really went above and beyond to make our stay feel personalised and special. The hotel is perfect for guests who want quiet private time or who want a bit more to do. The best hotel we’ve stayed at in Cambodia and we will return! Regarding the activities, Sinoun was an absolutely joy to be around. He really went the extra mile to make the excursions personalised. On the sunset tour there was sparkling wine, generous snacks and he really made the effort to get the best views on the boat. He was discrete the whole time ensuring we were comfortable and happy but also was a great photographer. For the snorkelling he was very communicative letting us know the best time to go (as it was a bit windy) and he was able to take us to places before the crowds joined. He was flexible to changes in timings and really endeavoured to go above and beyond including cold essential oil towels, cold water, snack boxes. We really didn't have to think about anything, we just turned up and he was there as a personalised guide. On the snorkelling excursions he snorkelled with us explaining all of the different coral and fish .If we were to have stayed at Royal Sands longer, we would have done an activity with Sinoun daily! The happy hour on the beach was a great way to watch the sunset. We were lucky enough to do the luminescent plankton trip in the evening, and this was one of the best things I've done in a long time. Savy was our activities guide and he was great, he also took us mangrove kayaking and helped us with bike hire. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Cool resort, many activities are possibile such as kayaking, diving, bikes renting.. very nice and supportive staff. Boat trip is possible to make an island tour with a guide and a driver, Sinoun and Deth. Both of them were accommodating to all our requests.

This is an extraordinary place. We went here on our honeymoon, and I can tell you that literally every where you looked, it was a postcard. The sand is so white it looks like snow. The water is so blue and clear that you can see all the way down to the bottom no matter where you swim, and it’s the perfect temperature so you never want to get out. The sunsets are absolutely insane and rival anywhere else in the world. On many days we felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves as this is a very large and thoughtfully planned resort that prioritizes intimacy and privacy. We loved the little touch of the strategically placed water basins that allowed you to easily rinse your feet off when exiting the beach. The accommodations are top notch. We loved our spacious room and super king bed. The bathroom is massive and the extra outdoor shower is an awesome touch. We used it more than the indoor one! We sprung for the room with a private pool and it was well worth it. Nothing like some quick dips in the pool throughout the day! So many nice little touches like the slippers, the candles that the staff lights daily, and the glass bottles for water (like many hotels in Cambodia this place is very eco-conscious and has fully pivoted away from plastic) that made you feel like a VIP. Both restaurants were great—the complementary breakfast is EPIC and we enjoyed some lovely cocktails and catches of the day for our dinners. Happy hour is a lot of fun and a good opportunity to socialize with the other guests. Finally, I want to emphasize how much fun we had doing the activities at the hotel. We did a half day island cruise that goes all the way around Koh Rong island and includes multiple snorkeling stops as well as tours through the small fishing village and “main village” which is a big international party spot. We also did a 2.5 hour bike ride that takes you all over the interior of the island as well as some breathtaking views. Our guide on both of these excursions was Johnny aka Johnny Be Good. Johnny is a blast to hang out with and he made sure that every aspect of our activity experience was incredible. We don’t even usually do a lot of snorkeling but he took us to such spectacular spots that it was one of the most memorable parts of our stay. Also, like many Cambodian tour guides, Johnny is an excellent photographer, and he basically produced multiple impromptu photo shoots that really preserved the memories of our honeymoon. Thank you so much for everything Johnny! We left the island with some unforgettable memories and also made a new friend. We fell in love with Cambodia on our trip and this resort was a huge part of that. Can’t recommend this place enough!

The most wonderful place to stay. All staff were so attentive and helpful. The villas are spacious will everything we needed (lovely fresh fruit, biscuits, tea and coffee provided). The beach, sea, pool and all outdoor areas were well maintained with plenty of personal space. Cocktails, on the beach, at sundown with the fire and lights added to the relaxing vide before dinner where the choice was great and standard delicious.
