For the attention of Ilianna Sanchez and Shadaya Burgess,
I hope this email finds you well and you take my words very seriously.
I have heard brilliant things about your afternoon tea in New York and on my first visit for my partner's birthday, I insisted we go for afternoon tea at your site.
We dressed up and arrived very excited. Upon arrival the staff were friendly enough but I very quickly became disappointed.
At the bar people were in joggers and running trainers, a shock as I expect a standard dress code to be enforced.
The tea was served in dirty large pots, no strainer for the loose leaf as expected at traditional afternoon teas.
The cake stand was brought out, the waiter did not run through each food piece, as again standard in afternoon tea.
The sandwiches were dry and inedible. They had to be replaced by the chef and whilst the new set was edible it was a far cry from the standard expected in taste and execution.
The sweet course was of a low standard, nothing special.
Everything down the jam was low standard and cheap. There was no event, no quality and class about this presentation or taste experience.
Within 30 minutes, I asked to get my bill for what we had consumed, the scones and drinks.
I was shocked and appalled at being presented with a bill for the full cost and the service charge after my complaints.
After being denied any reduction to the bill further than 10%, we paid and left.
I am genuinely shocked by my experience. You should be ashamed of what you served and your blanket rule to charge full price after heavy complaints and dissatisfaction from customers.
I believe I am entitled to a refund after my detailed complaints and I hope you respect this and take my words on board.
To put into perspective you are charging the same as The Ritz Afternoon Tea in London which is one of the most detailed and brilliant service and food experiences you will ever receive. I would have had better quality at a fraction of the cost in Tiffanys or my hotel local to the area.
Thank you for your time and i await your response,

Afternoon tea for wife's birthday
Felt like royalty as soon as shown our table. Ursula was immaculate in her service, nothing was too much trouble and a lovely touch was a keepsake for my wife's 40th.
Highly recommend if you are celebrating or you simply enjoy the finer things in life.

Breakfast area was stunning, waiting staff couldn’t have been more helpful but again you’re paying for the name and not the quality of foods

Years ago the Plaza was a perfect place in New York. Today it is an overpriced, creaky, old, building overcharging patrons who do not know better.
Two examples:
- in a five stars hotel (supposedly) if you want bacon and sausage with your eggs, the waiter will tell you firmly that it is either or ! If you want both there is a surcharge….
- two orange juices, croissants, toast and granola served in the room will set you back in excess of 200$ !
The fridge in the room doesn’t work but they can’t fix.
There are two restaurants, rather ordinary but very pretentious.
Etc. Etc ……
I had not been at the Plaza for some 20 years but this will be my last visit. People looking for New York good old days should stay away from this place !!!

The Plaza Hotel is a New York experience in itself. It is timeless, constant, and elegant. It is immaculately clean and smells heavenly. Though we brought neither children nor furry family members, we love that it is both family and pet friendly. Both bring joy to the common areas. The beds are comfortable, and the linens are spectacular. The concierge team is made up of miracle workers for dining, theater, and just about anything you could think of. Ryan, Juilet, Claire, and Bill assisted us with a myriad of reservations. I especially appreciate Claire's recommendations of independent bookstores. During this visit, we also appreciated access to the property's car service. The quality of food and service at the Plam Court was, indeed, five-star. In particular, Ursula, Emily, and Shalim welcomed us daily. They were gracious, professional, and efficient. We truly appreciate their service. We continue to miss the absence of the Lower Food Court, previously anchored by a Todd English restaurant and the countless other smaller restaurants that provided an incredible variety of food and confections. We hope that that wonderful space will be reconstituted in the future. Finally, we must highlight Erika at the front desk. She is a consummate professional who makes us feel truly welcome, like family returning every visit. Erika is absolutely a treasure and credit to Fairmont properties. We look forward to our next stay!

The Plaza is a New York icon and was know to be one of the most spectacular luxury hotels in the world. Sadly, that is not even close to the truth any more. We stayed for 3 nights in their Penthouse King Suite with Terrace at $4,000 per night. At that price, I think they need to be doing so much better.
Pros:
1. Excellent location
2. Beautifully appointed rooms (although not in perfect working order)
3. High quality Etro bathroom amenities
4. Comfy beds and furniture
5. The house car (a Maybach) took us to a theatre show one evening. This was a really nice touch.
Cons:
1. None of the rooms have views of Central Park, not even the $50,000 per night Penthouse! Only the residences have views, not the hotel. On their website, they claim to have "City Views" but for the most part, unless you walk out onto the terrace (if your room has one), you only have a view of the internal courtyard.
2. Little attention to detail. When we checked in, I asked for additional water to be supplied to the room daily. They made no note of it and I had to call every day to ask for the same thing again. Housekeeping didn't supply bathrobes for 2 days, had to call for this too. No fresh flowers in the room, such an inexpensive item that adds loads of value.
3. The room had a kitchenette with a really cheap microwave and dishwasher but not a single plate, knife or fork? The minibar has the bare minimum stock and is all outrageously priced. Here's an idea, make everything in the mini bar free! If it costs you $100 then make the room price $100 more. The illusion is worth $300.
4. When logging onto their wifi, it offers a $24 Upgrade to high speed. REALLY? I'm paying $4,000 a night and need to upgrade the wifi? That is just so unbelievably tacky.
5. Not all the staff were the friendliest. On arrival, the doorman took our luggage to the check-in desk and then awkwardly hung around for a tip. We did not have cash at that time and having thanked him numerous times, he finally got the message. To be fair, the room service and cleaning staff were all very lovely.
6. They have Palm Court, which is for high-tea and snacks and only one restaurant - Champagne Bar. The restaurant is nothing short of awful. It's located in an open area which is the traffic zone to the check-in, echoed like hell and was freezing cold. The service is unbelievably slow, poor wine selection, tiny menu with not a single chicken dish. Disappointing on every level. I would expect nothing less than a Michelin star restaurant in an icon like the Plaza. A wine bar perhaps? A tea room? An ice cream shop? It is so easy to make this so much better.
In conclusion, I think management is asleep at the wheel. if I were Fairmont, I would replace the current management and hire some fresh ideas. Start paying attention to what Aman, Six Senses, Mandarin, and the new Waldorf are all getting right. They are modernizing the hotel experience. The Plaza management is stuck in the past and it shows.
They're trading on their famous name to charge 5 Star prices for 4 star value. Sad to say, until this place undergoes a change in command and gets some fresh ideas, I would neither recommend it, nor return.

Afternoon Tea is a cute date idea
The tea selection was impressive and has something for eberyone. The afternoon tea menu left us feeling very full. There was a nice variety of sweet and savory bites. Porfirio was great, very attentive, and kind. It was a fun Valentine's Day treat!
