True to its classification as a bed and breakfast, The Inn on First honeymoon experience is dual-focused between first-class room amenities and an unequaled breakfast menu that foodies can’t stop raving about. The commitment to providing a quiet and peaceful romantic oasis is absolute, with the inn skipping televisions in its rooms to allow couples to focus on nurturing a connection based on love.
The heart and soul of The Inn on First is its renowned breakfast, which is crafted daily as a labor of love by the inn’s co-founder, Jim Gunther, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy. More than 160 unique recipes have been created by Gunther, ranging from tasty staples like honey nut granola, apple pie pancakes, and cranberry-lemon scones to creative indulgences like bacon-filled steamed buns and corndog omelets. Breakfast can be enjoyed in the delightful dining room or out on the patio, where the gentle sounds of the garden’s waterfall trickling into the pond provide the perfect ambiance.
There are a number of rooms and suites available in the inn, but celebrating couples will definitely want either the Vintage Reserve King Honeymoon Suite or the Noble Vineyard King Honeymoon Suite. Both suites feature a California King-size bed, a gas fireplace and two-person soaking tub for romantic evenings, and a private entrance for utmost comfort. Be sure to also add on the Lover’s Package, which adds rose petals on your luxurious bed, a bottle of Mumm Napa sparkling wine, and a dozen house-made truffles.
The historic building dates back to the early 20th century, and the rich history is evident in beautiful design accents and cozy rooms that are ideal for rest and relaxation. With so many wineries and activities to enjoy throughout Napa, The Inn on First is an oasis where you and your partner can simply enjoy each other’s love and company.

We loved staying in this 1905 house, with large rooms and historic touches. We were a group of eight and it was perfect for us. As it was January, we didn't use the lovely patio, but the dining room had a lovely large table for our wine and cheese fest before walking to downtown Napa for our dinner and concert. The next morning, we all lingered hours over a delicious breakfast together before checking out and continuing our Napa adventure. I particularly loved the large tub and the 24 hour hot tea bar!

No longer owned by Jim and Jamie so description on trip advisor should be revised. The Inn on First is listed as bed and breakfast but the bnb experience is not there. You do not meet the proprietor as they are not on property. So if you are a person who likes the bnb chat and experience, (you know what I mean) then I would stay elsewhere.
We arrived 1/2 before check in and were informed our room was ready but would be charged an “early check-in fee”. So, we walked into town, bonus to location so keep that in mind. Our room was nice, although in the toilet area the paint was stained or something, not appealing at all and the fridge froze everything we put in it as the temperature gauge was broken off. The girl at the desk and breakfast was nice and friendly. The breakfast was good, fresh fruit was lovely and it is cooked to order so those are bonus’.
It was a fine stay overall but not an elevated experience. I could have stayed in town at a hotel and it would have been the same. Depends on what you’re looking for. Cheers!

Excellent stay at the Inn. 5 minute walk to downtown Napa. Room was clean and orderly. All amenities were well stocked. Easy to access with contactless check in. Breakfast was a huge perk. Everything was delicious and satisfying. It was fresh and tasty, made by in house chef, fresh fruit and yogurt with homemade granola, plus a homemade pastry was available upon walking in. Hot breakfast was served moments later with coffee, tea and orange juice. Fresh baked Cookies were available later in the day whenever you wanted. Cindy was cheery and welcoming in the morning. We met a nice couple at the table one morning and loved having breakfast together the next day. Would definitely return again without hesitation.

I mostly agree with Akron TravelBug's April 2023 review just below, except for breakfast. One morning was egg noodles with diced mixed vegetables, tossed with some sort of gravy and topped with flavored bread crumbs and a poached egg, the next day was a calzone with a little bit of Italian sausage, pepper and onion, topped with tomato sauce and a poached egg. It wasn't that they were poorly prepared, and I realize this is just my personal preference, it's just not the kind of food I like for breakfast. Fortunately there was also yogurt, fresh fruit, and mini scones or turnovers..
Our room, #6, was lovely - clean, spacious, and comfortable. The only information the owners neglected to send is that access to their parking lot is from the street behind the inn.
I recommend The Inn on First, but with the caveat that it doesn't feel like a bed and breakfast experience, more like a hotel with breakfast. It's very impersonal and no one is around, other than at breakfast, to answer questions or make recommendations.

Excellent B&B and it was a very pleasant experience. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5* rating is I was under the impression it was run by Jim & Jamie (if you read past reviews), and that is not the case. A corporation purchased it, so you will not meet the owners, and it won't have that personal touch. You will not be greeted by anyone, in fact, the only time you encounter staff is at breakfast. By the way Isabella is amazing, so sweet and has the biggest smile, you can tell she loves the Inn and she will make you feel very welcomed.
The location is perfect and easily walk- able to downtown Napa - about 5 to 10 minutes. Free parking in the back, and there are little areas around the outside for seating. The Inn only had a few guest at the time, so we sat on the front porch and had it all to ourselves.
This was a special birthday for me, and my husband worked with the staff to make it special and helped to arrange a bottle of champagne and balloons. He said they were pleasant to work with and made it happen seamlessly.
Our room was a great size and had everything we needed. It was very clean! It had a corner bathtub, comfortable bed and plenty of storage area. Our room was at the front and being on the main drag, you can hear traffic, but it didn't bother us. If you are a light sleeper you might want to bring earplugs. Note to staff: perhaps you can provide a white noise machine for those light sleepers :)
I was surprised by all the labels saying don't do this, or don't do that. I get it - we have a rental property and you want to communicate things to your guest on how to operate things, but they can be toned down a bit, or perhaps smaller labels?
Check in was easy, but you need to make sure you read everything on how to get in, as no one is there to greet you. They have cookies downstairs when we checked in during the day - what a nice touch.
Getting to the wifi was an issue. You have to go to the provided ipad in your room and select the wifi icon. Since the ipad is not locked down and past guests must have modify it, and we had to dig for the App. Fortunately my husband is in IT and is a tech person, so he was able to figure it out, otherwise we would of had an issue. Also, in order to know how to adjust the heating in the room, you had to go to the ipad. Having an ipad in each room to facilitate things, just didn't make sense. This isn't a modern B&B, so not sure why the owners want it to be high tech. I think they complicated things - a simple book or one page summary would have made things simple.
Breakfast is amazing!!! We spent 2 nights at the Inn, but missed the first morning's breakfast as we had an early hot air balloon flight. We reached out to the staff and they arranged a grab and go breakfast for us - thank you! The second morning we were greeted by Isabella and had coffee and orange juice as we wait for the breakfast to be made (made to order and fresh). It was pouched eggs, over rosemary potatoes and homemade break and homemade jam - it was delicious and gourmet, restaurant quality for sure!
Overall, would I stay again - of course! Like I said, there were just a few hiccups, but overall it was a great stay!

There is so much to say about how much we enjoyed our recent three days in Napa. I cannot imagine a better way to see the valley then to stay at a B&B like Inn on First. Location was easy to get around. A half mile walk and we were downtown Napa for great food and drinks after a day at the wineries. It was also an easy Uber ride to Yountville for dinner one night. But the location is just the beginning. You cannot say enough about Jim & Jamie. They made our trip extra special just by getting to know them a little bit. Jim is the star behind the kitchen and the breakfasts are truly creative and delicious! Definitely do not pass up on breakfast before going out and exploring for the day. Jaime is one of the friendliest hosts that I have met. My wife and I could have talked to him for hours each morning as we discussed the day before and looked forward to what we had planned for the current day.
Both Jim and Jaime are a wealth of knowledge for food and wine while visiting the valley. I felt like their recommendations were all about the quality of experience and not about some local tip or inside connection. I highly recommend reaching out before your trip for some really good advice to make your time in Napa that much more special.
My wife and I would stay here again in a heart beat.
Thank you Jim and Jaime for all you do.

This is the place to stay in Napa!
Great hosts, great location, free parking, amazing breakfast, super comfy beds!! This is the place you want to stay. Easy check in, great communication with hosts. They helped us plan a wine tour and provided some fantastic coffee (much needed!) in the morning.

This is our second stay with Jamie and Jim. They are like family, and our only regret is that we didn’t discover them sooner. This time we opted to stay in the mansion. It was beautiful, and our room was spacious and bright. I loved the layout of the bathroom with 2 sinks and the large shower. It was perfectly clean. We opted to eat downstairs, but guests could also opt to eat in their rooms. We loved meeting a few other guests who also chose the dining room. Our favorite, though, was sitting and talking to Jamie and Jim, when he wasn’t in the kitchen cooking up something incredible for breakfast. I am amazed at how they cater to their guests’ individual whims and tastes. Jim keeps notes about the guests’ likes and dislikes and tries to be accommodating. For example, we don’t like poached eggs, so he made us fried or scrambled when his menu called for poached. Trying to satisfy each individual guest must be tedious at best, but Jim does it with a smile. I could go on, but just know that you will not find hospitality like that anywhere else. If you find yourself in Napa, don’t hesitate to book with Jim and Jamie. Just don’t take our room bc we intend to be back very soon.

What a lovely inn, within walking distance to the downtown tasting rooms and restaurants. Our room, Veraison, was spacious, super clean, quiet, had a very comfy bed with soft sheets, and a nice, big soaking tub. Because of covid restrictions, we did not spend time in the downstairs common rooms, but the inn is beautifully designed and it really feels like you're staying in someone's gorgeous home as their special guest. There are some sweet welcome touches, like a split of champagne and homemade truffles and cookies, as well as really delicious, creative, full breakfasts every morning delivered to your room. Jim, (the inkeeper/chef extraordinaire) was even kind enough to send me a recipe I requested for some of his jam. In warmer months, you can eat outside and relax in the pretty backyard. I would highly recommend this wonderful inn if you're looking for a romantic place -- no kids, but pets are allowed.

After reading so many 5 star reviews, I was convinced to book the Inn on First for our first trip to Napa. The experience exceeded our expectations. We stayed in Room 8 which is located right next to the private parking lot. Checking into our room was contact free and a breeze. Our room had a fireplace, heart-shaped soaking tub, shower, two sinks, and a comfortable seating area. We were greeted with chocolate truffles and chocolate cookie upon entry. Inside the room was a mini iPad that provided us with all the information we’d need for our stay. The Inn is located only a few blocks away from downtown Napa. We walked into town two out of our three nights for drinks/dinner. We used the gas fireplace every night which was romantic but also incredibly functional as the Napa nights get cool. Never once did we miss having a TV in the room. Even with all these positives, I’d have to say the best parts of our stay were the creative, unique and delicious breakfasts every morning. They were delivered directly to our room in eco-friendly containers and labeled with their contents. The portions were generous. I loved that we received an email in advance of our trip asking our dietary preferences. Despite the contactless check in and our limited use of the common areas, I felt that our hosts made the experience as personalized as possible! When we made a point to stop by the dining room on our way out, I was extremely impressed that Jamie knew who I was and recalled our prior email conversation. He even gave us a tip for our last day’s excursion which was very helpful. If we return to Napa, we will certainly come back to the Inn on First.
