What an incredible place. The location on the lake is unparalleled. Nothing between the grounds and the water, no roads, nothing. The grounds itself are beautiful too. We booked the Forest room, which is huge, with a fireplace, a bath with a view and is very private, The lodge has various communal spaces which will be great when the weather is bad, but fortunately we could be outside all the time, loving the deck on the boathouse. Maybe the best feature of the Fern Lodge is Wendy who did everything to make our stay perfect . She has the talent of not being around when you want your privacy and appearing when you need her. A couple got married quietly and privately when we were there and told us their special day was even more enchanting than they had expected. Best Inn-experience ever!

I made a reservation for two nights at the Fern Lodge in July 2024. Sadly I became extremely ill two days before our reservation. I’m not sure who I talked to, but the person was rude and not even the least bit understanding. The cancellation policy was two weeks; obviously I didn’t cancel at that time because I wasn’t sick and had every intention of going and was really looking forward to it.
So, not only was there ZERO compassion from the manager, but THEY wouldn’t even let me ‘give’’ the reservation to my family or friends in the area. And my family who has a cabin on Friend’s lake, has been an acquaintance of the owners for years. The reservation was cancelled and they refused to allow any other options. It was like flushing $1000+ down the loo.
I cannot recommend this place, and we’ve made sure that our local friends know how horribly I was treated, all while I was soooo sick. The least they could have done is allowed someone else to stay in our place, but the woman I talked to refused. She cancelled the reservation and that was that. My family have been telling everyone how poorly I was treated, and locals were shocked that the owners did this. Greed is greed, but why on earth wouldn’t they have let someone else stay in our place? I mean, it was paid for in full, so why would they care?
Avoid, avoid, avoid. The experience of being treated so poorly was demoralizing. Stay at Friend's Inn. The management at Fern Lake sucks and we will tell everyone we can.

We just returned from a two night get a way to The Fern Lodge. Everything about it was wonderful. The Lodge is beautiful with a gorgeous view of the lake . We enjoyed breakfast on our private balcony, it was delicious. We also enjoyed cocktails and talking with other guests in the beautiful great room. Our room was the prettiest room we have ever stayed in. The bed was so comfortable with the softest sheets and wonderful lavender scented pillow case spray. Wendy was so sweet and very helpful with recommendations where to eat and things to do, she made us feel like we were old friends. Sophia was sweet and and very attentive to offer help with luggage when we were leaving. We hope to return again soon. We travel frequently and The Fern Lodge is our new Top of the list destination.

We also enjoyed the sauna. This is the perfect place to rejuvenate and connect to nature. We even spotted a flock of turkeys meandering through the woods. We highly recommend it and the Adirondack area for the perfect getaway.

We visited Fern at the end of September for 6 nights. I have cancer and prior to the trip Wendy was as nice as could be - flexible and accommodating in every way. I wish I could say it stayed that way.
A free boat ride on the lake is a feature of all stays. It started with her offer to take us on a private boat ride the next day, rather than have to go the day of arrival w others. We accepted her offer. I texted her 15 minutes prior to confirm & find out where to meet, and she had forgotten about it. Rather than apologize, which we would’ve understood and forgiven, she made up an excuse about the water being choppy and windy (it wasn’t) & texted “Tomorrow looks fabulous. Why don’t we do it then?” We had prior plans, it was our vacation! Her response “we will make it work, no worries.” She never followed up. I mentioned it to her the day before we left early PM. She said 5pm would work but it would be cold & windy, dress warm. We declined. She had forgotten again. No apology.
Her assistant Sasha had a sour attitude the entire time we were there. Never a smile. You have to ask for toilet paper. They keep it locked up. What?! She actually questioned why we needed another roll! Like others, we had breakfast brought to our room. She would actually knock on our door to see if we were done because she wanted the tray back. We finally told her we’d bring it back when we were done.
The room itself (pine room) had multiple problems. The fireplace was broken. A real letdown. Wendy tried to fix it and wasn’t successful. She claimed she didn’t know beforehand. Sorry but as the manager it’s her responsibility to test these things before every guest comes. We had 3 windows and one didn’t open at all. Again there was no accountability. Because of this, ventilation was lousy. We had turned on the A/C because of this and the firepit that was on most nights and caused very smoky air in our room. ASTHMATICS beware. Sasha reprimanded us because of this. “Why in the world did you put the air on when it’s comfortable outside?” Then the air leaked all over the dresser.
There was no chair in the room - just a worn out couch. The heavy, stiff bedspread on the bed was old and unlikely to have been washed between guests. It would be too big a production for a small outfit to undertake. Which makes it very unsanitary. See attached photos of this and the carpet on the hard wood floor which has no padding making it extremely uncomfortable to sit on so if you’re eating breakfast inside your room it’s difficult. Photo of breakfast too
In contrast to the bountiful breakfast shown on the website, we received very small amounts of food - ROTTEN berries, a piece of ham literally 1” big, 1/2 cup of scrambled eggs.
The area itself has next to no place to eat unless you drive at least 20 minutes for pizza and the like, want to eat unhealthy bar food, or pay a fortune for a healthy meal at Friends Lake Inn. And a good supermarket? Good luck!!
Lastly as we were more than ready to leave, the exterior door going out to the parking lot from our room doesn’t open correctly and slammed back onto my hand causing a black and blue, painful bruise.
This is an honest review, hoping to help others make a good decision. No sugar coating. For an immunocompromised person and her husband trying to get away and enjoy an escape, we were extremely disappointed. The best part of the visit was the view of the lake and the kayaking

I am writing this review because my wife’s review (written immediately after our stay) was inexplicably removed. That suggests that negative reviews are being deleted from the site.
Last summer, my wife and I stayed here. We booked one of the best rooms in the inn (by my recollection something akin to a bridal suite). The room strangely had an interior door/window that overlooked the main room. That oddity was not apparent in the inn’s pictures. There was a nice screened in area overlooking the opposite direction from the lake. Given, the price point and great reviews, we expected an exceptional experience. The inn provided far less. The structure itself is quite impressive. However, the remaining aspects were mediocre.
The breakfast was below par. Only weak drip coffee was available. The juice was standard juice that one would pick up at any grocery store. The chopped fruit supplied was exceptionally small. Some fried eggs were actually nicely cooked.
The bedding and towels were of mediocre quality and not terribly new. Small things like the tissues and toilet paper were below average in quality. Overall, it felt like a holiday-inn grade experience embedded within a beautifully constructed building. We left feeling that this inn is far from what it appears to be.

Beautiful location, lovely amenities and a wonderful hostess.
Very beautiful location, offering many secluded areas to sit, relax and de-stress with your partner. Wendy is an amazing hostess, going out of her way to help you enjoy your time at the lodge.
There are 2 Tesla level 2 charging stations and the lodge has adapters for other vehicles.
