Out of 10 it's an easy 10+.. My wife and I got married in St Lucia over 20 years ago and returned to mark the occasion and WOW we were blown away by the Hotel Staff and the rooms and Restaurants. 'Swamed' our butler for the 10 days was literally No 1 for attention to detail, taking care of our every need and most of all full of smiles and a can do attitude. His personal delivery of coffee and pastries was a high light and above and beyond!! Thank you also to James Wyndham MD who is clearly leading his team from the front 👍

My wife and I along with two other couples just got back after five nights at Sugar Beach Resort. The location, the villas, the restaurants and most importantly the staff were fantastic. The two of us stayed in a luxury villa (508) and it had great ocean views. The Cane Bar and Saltwood were our favorite restaurants along with Jetty Burgers for lunch. We can’t speak highly enough about the staff. Every single staff member we encountered was helpful, engaging and always asking if we needed anything. A special recognition of superior service from the following staff members (our butlers Tracey, Felicia and Swamed), (Afra at Jetty Burgers and the beach) and (bartenders Zeph and Kentus who also explained the rules of cricket). The staff make this resort exceptional. It is pricey but worth every penny.

Beautiful understated elegance. Amazing food and service. From the moment we began our airport transfer, the service was impeccable. Outstanding room with pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean. Karen Augustin was the absolute best. We had the loveliest time and will return.

The beach at Sugar Beach is just amazing. Stunning scenery, excellent facilities, brilliant service. Gorgeous white sand and lovely sea to swim in. The loungers are great and there's lots of good big straw umbrellas. The beach service is a real plus with them bringing all your towels for you and serving lots of different meals and drinks straight to your lounger. You can completely relax and not worry about anything.
We also loved the tennis court. It could not be more picturesque with stunning landscaping and clubhouse and right next to the Petit Piton. Excellent quality court and faultless surrounding. Lovely staff at the tennis club too and easy and free to book with your butler.
Our luxury sugar mill room was in a great location because you're right next to where breakfast is served and can also walk easily to all the restaurants and reception without having to use the shuttle cars. The room was very large and had a massive terrace which we loved sitting out on. Lovely high ceilings. Air con was extremely effective but not always needed as it was a very airy and light room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable.
They decorated the room for us for our honeymoon which was a really nice touch.
We found the food at Sugar Beach much better than at Ladera. There's also a good amount of variety since there are four different restaurants. The Asian food at Cane Bar was delicious and we loved the vibes of being right by the beach at Bonte and the Grill. Breakfast has an incredible selection of different food it was always a shame when I wasn't able to eat more! It was a real plus having two egg chefs and a crepe/pancake/waffle chef. A lady egg chef in particular was an absolute delight, so friendly and would somehow always remember you and your order! She cooked me excellent fried eggs.
We loved the live music that was regularly at the resort especially the instrumental steel drums band. The atmosphere was just great.
The service was mostly very good but varied a lot from person to person. Some of the hosts at breakfast seemed not friendly and a bit stressed and a couple of the pancake chefs did not communicate well at all. Some of the waiters at the restaurants were delightfully friendly and charismatic whereas others were sleepwalking a bit. I think some staff just seemed much less motivated or less natural at service than others.
I would exclude the butlers from this who without exception were excellent. We found the app for messaging your butler so helpful. They would always respond to everything very fast as well. Shout out to Beverley who did a brilliant and fast job packing my suitcase. We used the butlers lots for booking things for us and general help and advice and it was brilliant to have them.
I couldn't fault the cleanliness of the room or the resort, the housekeepers did a great job and were also always kind. The gardeners also do an incredible job, the landscaping and gardens are just beautiful which is so impressive for such an enormous resort.
The rainforest spa was stunning but the price of the treatments is absolutely eye watering, like more than 300 USD for a massage.
The restaurants are also extremely expensive, even worse than some 5 star hotels in London which was a surprise. However we rated the food and service at all of our meals at the resort.
Only main area of complaint would be the rum and chocolate tasting experience we did at the cocoa hut on site. The two staff members running it knew very little about rum or chocolates. I could have told you the facts that they said by just reading you the label on the side of the bottle. They also got some figures wrong and had to correct themselves. We were really expecting more expertise especially at such a high price point.
We did several other activities and these were mostly very good although extremely expensive. We booked a boat tour directly on the beach with Ocean Angels Tours and the two guys were great and made us feel in no rush. They were very knowledgeable about the island and showed us loads of different places. It might be better to book excursions through a different provider because they charge you resort fees and taxes but it was also very easy and convenient just booking things directly through the concierge.
Overall the resort is absolutely a 5 star resort. The views and location are just stunning and there are lots of different things available to do.
Just the staff are a bit hit and miss and you need to have a lot of money to stay here, because the restaurants and excursions are extortionate.

Sugar Beach is in my top 5 beach destinations for sure. Great location and the views are magnificent. Great restaurants around the beach and it is very clean. A must see when in St Lucia. Overall great beach destination with amazing views all around.

Beach has a hotel on it but public can use the beach free of charge. Excellent value day trip with some of the passengers doing a full tour including volcano, mud bath and waterfall at $90 per person. Drinks provided on return journey. Highly recommend over other beaches in st Lucia.

When we travel we typically like to bounce around and explore a lot. The Viceroy was one of the few resort that I felt like I could stay at for a long period of time and enjoy it at the same level every day. First off the villas were amazing. Incredible views with a private pool. We just had the first-level upgrade and not the top-tier offerings. Bed was very comfortable and the bathrooms were very enjoyable. The way the villas are positioned it offers a complete level of privacy even though other villas are in proximity.
You get a private butler for your stay. They provide you with a phone that you can use to phone your butler and arrange anything that you need during your relaxation time at this property. The service was top notch. There were a couple of times that we needed a quick dry cleaning job in less than 24 hours and some help with arranging to exchange a vehicle and the service was always very crisp. As much as we like to explore you don't need to leave this property. You could spend all day at the pool and you can then spend a full day at the beach and rotate back and forth. Their are water sports they can arrange and some great snorkeling on property.
The outlets were all very enjoyable. They do smash burgers every so often on the beach at a small hut that you will have to inquire about as it is a great treat to have while you are there. There is a very nice gym on property to work out at in the mornings.
I would highly recommend getting something with the breakfast buffet added. Breakfast tended to be our largest meal that we had during our stay and the rest of the day we just relaxed with some activities mixed in. We have been to several island vacations and St. Lucia was very fun. While the island is starting to get some more attention this resort was the highlight of our trip. We would highly recommend this as a place to call home during your trip to St. Lucia. You will not be disappointed. I typically like to try a new destination every time we travel but I would absolutely go back to St. Lucia and this would be the place I would book again. We stayed at an AirBnB and another resort during our time on the island and I would just go straight back here for the entire stay. Thank you to the staff and management during our stay at the resort. Your team coordinated its services very well!

We stayed at Sugar Beach Viceroy and we were completely overwhelmed with how amazing it was.
The Service: Butlers: our butlers were really great! Tracy and Demond were responsive, they surprised us with a thoughtful banner in our room (it was our 30th Anniversary celebration) and we got champagne and chocolates from the catering manager. They were personable, we adored them!
The Room: Room 501 view is spectacular! We had the view of the pitons AND the water! We spent so much time on the deck and in the plunge pool. The room was very comfortable and clean and spacious!
The Restaurants: we did not eat at The Cane Bar but we did have cocktails at the bar. The bartender was fabulous! Showed me how to make the mocktail that I was enjoying that night. The Jalousie Grill where we went for the Barbecue, we highly recommend this place for the BBQ. Bonte was the place we went most. Lunches and Dinners. The service was phenomenal, the food was delicious. The best place however is Saltwood. The service we received from Belinda was over the top. She did everything she could to make sure our dinners were special including having the people doing the entertainment play our wedding song! She made us feel so special and well taken care of. The food here is top notch, great quality!
Overall, you cannot go wrong staying at Sugar Beach. The staff will make sure you are sad when you have to leave because they make you feel so very special and welcome.

Only here for the diving in the resort, super super helpful and great team, Elijah was extremely helpful when we booked quick and prompt by email and was extremely welcoming, Merv our dive master was full of info for diving and info for St Lucia with a smile on his face and a great sense of humour awesome dive team, if only we had more time to dive with them we would.
Dives sites were amazing and Merv gave us great briefs before hand making everyone comfortable with the dives, saw turtles, pufferfish, barracuda and lionfish to do hunt as well.
Overall the whole team in the dive centre were really helpful and even if we weren't diving with some instructors/boat crew they were all really happy to help and crack a joke or two with you.
Me and my partner really really enjoyed it and like I said would dive with them again.

Sugar Beach always exceeds expectations. Hands down, they provide the best service in the Caribbean. A personal Butler is assigned to you with a phone for immediate service. The villa is stocked with all your favorite beverages, including sodas, wine, and the delicious Piton beer. The shuttle service is so fast that you better be ready because they are there seconds after you call. The food has drastically improved over our last 4 visits. The breakfast buffet was included and was wonderful. They have crepes, waffles, eggs, and fruit. The buffet nights are expensive but well worth it. Beach service is a nice lunch option. Afra and William were very attentive and eager to serve. We ordered room service on several evenings and ate by the splash pool.
The beach has a locally owned shop by the snorkeling area. Bernita, the owner, will shop and bring you anything you may have forgotten to pack. She has liquor, cigarettes, medicines, and trinkets. The beach has some nice touches, like sunscreen and hydration stations, towels, and plenty of lounge chairs. The beach area is not as exclusive as in years past. The chairs are placed much closer together, and there were people with day passes using the accommodations.
The one-bedroom villa has two full baths, a living room area, and a large bedroom. The main bathroom has plenty of space, including a tub, shower, closet, and vanity. The hair dryer is subpar compared to other resorts of this caliber. The deck area is large, with incredible views. Michael and Candy were our Butlers and went above and beyond, making our visit extra special. Sugar Beach has plenty to do. They have snorkeling and Hobie Cats at no extra charge. They also have scuba diving and many excursions. We chose the Sunset Cruise. They picked us up on the beach dock, so there was no time wasted leaving the resort. We love Sugar Beach and will be back soon!

Sugar Beach has the best service and scenery we’ve experienced in the Caribbean. This was our 4th stay at this property and it’s because we haven’t found any place that is comparable.
Our butlers, Candy and Michael, were great, and even arranged for us to be able to watch the college football conference championship games from our villa’s patio. That was awesome!
All of the staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. William and Afra, our servers at the beach, were particularly awesome. Bernita, the wonderful lady that runs a shop at the Northern end of the beach, is also very friendly and helpful. It wouldn’t be a trip to Sugar Beach without visiting her shop.
The property is beautiful and impeccably maintained. However, it is starting to feel like they are trying to maximize all the available space by adding additional beach front bungalows at the edge of the beach and umbrellas between the thatched sun shelters on the beach. As a result, the beach area is starting to feel a bit crowded even if there aren’t many people on it.
The Villa, #318, an ocean view, had an incredible view of the bay and beach, and was spacious. Unfortunately, it didn’t have a view of the sunset, but they offer a great sunset cruise from the resort that was fantastic.
Finally, the food was great and has gotten better over the years. They have a lot of variety on the menu and it’s all done very well.
In the end, it was another great stay at Sugar Beach and we’d definitely return.

My now husband and I just got back from our honeymoon in Saint Lucia where we stayed at Sugar Beach and it was all we could have dreamed of and more! We upgraded our room to the luxury cottage and it was perfect. High up with great views of the beach and the pitons and very private with your own plunge pool. I don’t think you can beat the views from sugar beach which is in between the two pitons - it doesn’t look real! The shuttle service, butler service, bar/wait staff and everyone else were so kind and welcoming. We did pretty much every excursion and they were all incredible.
1) grow piton hike - very difficult but the views were amazing
2) explore Soufriere- one of my favorite days at the volcano, sulfur mud bath, waterfall and botanical garden
3) rainforest hike - got to try so many awesome fruits and see some incredible wildlife - got to see the Saint Lucia parrot which made the entire trip
4) Superman waterfall - very personal and private (only me and my husband and our guide) very beautiful and a short hike down to the falls
5) rum and chocolate tasting - right on site, very fun and learned so much, next time I would deff do the chocolate making class! Our pairing was with Kentus and Albertina - they were the best! We also bought lots of chocolate to bring home and I wish we would have bought more. So good
6) rainforest spa - got couples massages - one of the coolest spas I have ever been to - super incredible views and atmosphere, you are literally in the rainforest! So worth the price
7) sunset cruise - also worth the splurge, had so much fun just looking at all the views and hanging out with the team and guests - had included drinks and apps, saw some dolphins and fish
8) free snorkeling- the coolest spot on the side of the piton to snorkel - saw so many cool unique fish - cuddlefish, parot fish, snapper, etc
9) pickleball / tennis - will never be able to play with such a cool view ever again! Also was free!!!
Sugar beach had so many small things that truly made it incredible. Cold towels on the beach, private cabanas, fun themed dinner nights, sunglasses cleaning, chocolate covered sorbet hand outs, social sundown happy hour to connect with staff, tiki night, amazing food and drinks, so many different things for so many different type of people. Met so many fun guests as well and really connected with staff
We booked through Costco and got free breakfast Buffett each day with our stay - breakfast was always incredible.
I will absolutely be coming back and we spoiled ourselves with this trip because I don’t think anything will ever compare! Worth the splurge.

My wife and I had a wonderful anniversary week at Sugar Beach this August. A great time of the year to be in St Lucia, 85 degrees with a breeze everyday with little rain.
The Sugar Beach Resort is very well done and they have trained their people in excellent customer service with very few exceptions.
We booked a Superior Villa through Costco Travel (which I recommend), but found it was farther from the beach and restaurants/bars than expected. We negotiated a move to the beachfront Cabanas for our final 5 nights. This move was a highlight—the beach was right outside, and restaurants were within a short walking distance.
All the restaurants were very good but we found Saltwood, their fine dining, to be the best. Their service and food selections are excellent. We had lunch each day at the Bonte bar and their spicy salmon and shrimp sushi were superb.
The staff at Sugar beach really go out of their way to provide spectacular service. A few of note:
Curtley, our pickleball instructor, Lorenzia and Kentsu at Bonte bar, Tristan on the beach, Lana at the bar, Larus the Saltwood bartender, Macrina, Shy and Marcellus – our butlers and both Yvonne and Michele - Spa masseuses.
We have stayed at 2 other places in St Lucia in the past (incl. Jade Mountain) and found Sugar Beach to be superior in offerings, their beach, and restaurant choices.
We will certainly return to Sugar Beach in the future.

After going back and forth between possible resorts, I am thrilled I settled on Sugar Beach. It is truly a prize in the middle of an oasis. I opted to stay in a beachfront bungalow, which was worth every cent. Vacation is about walking out of your beachfront room to enjoy the views and napping in your hammock. I considered Ladera, but the three-wall concept was not for me. I did opt to have dinner at Ladera during sunset, and the views are amazing, but as soon as the sun went down, the crickets and the mosquitoes made me happy that I chose Sugar Beach.
I want to thank Felicia and Michaela, who ensured we were happy and celebrated my birthday.
Special thanks to Maurcia at Terrace Restaurant for making me feel like family.
Thanks to the morning groundkeepers who always passed by while I was sitting in the outdoor lounge chair to check in on my husband and me
Thanks to Blaze on the beach for caring for us and making St Lucia feel like home.
I am forever grateful, and I will be back.

We stayed at Sugar Beach for 12 days in July and truly enjoyed every minute of our trip. If you’re contemplating staying at Sugar Beach — just do it! This resort offers the best beach, unbeatable views of the iconic Pitons, luxurious lodging, and an incredible staff that goes above and beyond to make your stay unforgettable. From the moment we arrived we were taken care of with a warm welcome at the resort. The July weather was mostly perfect, with only two brief rainy days that brought stunning rainbows. Our remodeled deluxe cottage in the 600s offered a lush jungle view, a distant ocean view, and a private plunge pool (which we didn’t use much — the beach and main pool were just too good to pass up!). The location was convenient for walking, but shuttles were always available, and the butlers were incredibly helpful and attentive. We loved the thoughtful daily touches, like spa skincare products left by housekeeping. Each morning we began the day with a gorgeous walk to the beach and then to the generous buffet breakfast with panoramic views of the Pitons. The food easily kept us going most of the day. The rainforest spa was a highlight, and we also booked fantastic boat tours right from the beach with Solomon’s. Don’t miss the Friday Night Gros Islet Street Party — it was one of our favorite experiences. Be sure to go off property and explore the Soufriere area. We used Golden Ticket for private transportation and created our own off-property adventures, eating local food, and visiting less touristy local attractions. Yes, food and drinks at the resort are pricey, but many activities are complimentary: snorkeling, kayaking, gym access, relaxing poolside or on the beach, and scenic walks on the beach and around the property. We were given 2 Sugar Beach water bottles which we used to fill up in hydration stations around the resort. The resort also offers a free Sunset Happy Hour on Wednesdays — a beautiful way to wind down the day. Everywhere you turn, there are breathtaking views, friendly staff members, and a sense of relaxation and luxury that’s hard to beat. We can’t recommend Sugar Beach Viceroy enough!

After much research, my wife and I decided to go to Sugar Beach about ten years ago. They gave never given us a reason to even consider another resort We've gone back several times and we don't consider other alternatives because the resort itself is gorgeous, the villas (each with a small pool) are beautiful, the food is varied and excellent, and most importantly, this resort has the best staff anywhere. Everyone is SO friendly and accommodating and you're always met with a smile and a nice comment. The food is varied - from the beach restaurant (Bonte) to the high end Saltwood. And the service and menu on the beach are fantastic. I really just can't say enough about this place!

Sugar Beach more than lived up to the hype.
The grounds are stunning -- tucked between the Pitons with clean lines, lush greenery, and a beach that looks like it was pulled from a movie set. Everything is well-kept without feeling overly manicured. It’s the kind of place where you can unwind without trying too hard.
The staff were excellent across the board -- friendly, professional, and always a step ahead. No attitude, no overdoing it -- just solid, consistent service that made things easy.
The food was top-tier. Fresh seafood, great jerk chicken, solid breakfasts, and cocktails that didn’t disappoint. Whether it was lunch at the beach grill or dinner at Saltwood, everything hit the mark.
And then there’s Gary, our butler. Guy was a machine—in the best way. He handled every request, anticipated needs before we even brought them up, and kept things smooth without hovering. Professional, low-key, and dependable. He made a great trip even better.
If you're looking for a place that nails luxury without being over-the-top, Sugar Beach delivers. We would go back in a heartbeat.

In terms of amenities, this hotel had one of the best hotel gyms I’ve ever experienced with modern equipment, kettlebells and even peloton machines. They also had a cold plunge! I’d highly recommend getting one of the beachfront rooms as they are stunning and will require a lot less walking up/down hills. The only downside I think is the food, I wish they had more local options.

Sugar Beach is peaceful and beautifully tucked between the Pitons – a perfect escape. The food was fresh and flavorful, especially the breakfast with a view – simple, delicious, and satisfying.
One of the highlights of my stay was doing a yoga session with Kez. Being pregnant, I was a little nervous, but she was so patient and gentle. She created such a calm space, and I felt completely at ease in my body. It was one of the most grounding moments of the trip.
If you’re visiting, definitely treat yourself to a session with her – it’s a beautiful way to slow down and take in the energy of the island.

This is a truly beautiful stay. Upon entrance they staff tells you they will spoil you and they follow through! The staff could not do enough for you. The butler system was so easy allowing you to make dinner reservations and plans with remarkable ease. The app is fabulous and works quite well.
PROS:
- the service!!!!
-the rooms, we had a grand villa I believe and it was fabulous
- the location cannot be beat truly stunning
- great drinks
- good food
- amazing spa
-the beach
CONS (the resort was amazing but I always like to know any downsides, even down sides out of resorts control, when booking)
- if you choose Saint Lucia you are choosing inconsistent weather. It didn’t bother us much but it’s true.
- the winding road from the airport to report and back is no joke if you get car sick.
- you really can’t walk around the resort. I underestimated how much I would have to rely on shuttle system. Can be annoying around meal times.
- you are in the middle of a rainforest. It is stunning, beautiful, but LOUD at night. Perhaps the resort could provide earplugs in toiletry kit.
-again, RAINFOREST, there are mosquitos and you will get bit.
I would go again.
