Stayed here for two nights. Excellent room, bed and pillows. Nice and quiet too. Very convenient location a staff very helpful to organise restaurants and whatever else is needed. Breakfast was ok albeit a bit pricey but was to be expected. All over ok.

This lovely old hotel is situated in the French Quarter in Hanoi. Staff are excellent at their jobs and very friendly.
Our room on the 1st floor had a small seating area outside in a courtyard that serviced around 10 rooms. Very private. The room itself had a queen size bed (felt more like a king size to me), desk, comfy chair, wardrobe (with two gorgeous silk robes) , side tables, tv, cabinet and mini bar, and a spacious bathroom. All beautifully appointed.
The hotel has a number of eating venues from Michelin star-rated to a poolside bar. I had a drink at the poolside bar and the staff were again excellent. As was my cocktail. We also ate at the Spice Garden (separate review) which served Asian food that was top notch and with the best service we've experienced in a number of years. This space was also used for the buffet breakfast which had a great range from Vietnamese to Western food.
An all around great place to stay. Recommended.

This is a famous landmark and very much a popular hotel for tourists. We found everything very professional and of the expected quality. However it is slightly victim to its fame. 2 of the 3 mornings our preferred area for breakfast(on the opera side) could not accommodate us as a couple, presumably due to the number of commercial groups using the property (meeting rooms were adjacent to this location) and the alternative breakfast location was rather chaotic with a less personable service a consequence. Compared to the other locations we have stayed on our visit to Vietnam so far I would say this was the least impactful in terms of friendliness / personality whilst never less than very good and (of course) handily located.

Our stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam, in February 2025 was truly legendary—as the name promises. We spent our final night in Vietnam at this extraordinary hotel, and I can only express one regret: that we didn’t stay for two nights! From start to finish, every moment was a testament to the height of luxury.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by heightened security—New Zealand’s Prime Minister was staying at the hotel at the time, which speaks volumes about the caliber of this place. Presidents and world leaders frequent the Metropole, and it’s easy to see why. We were guided to the correct check-in desk, as the hotel has two sides: the newer Heritage side, built in the 90s, and the historic Opera side. To our surprise and delight, we were informed that we were the “Guests of the Day.” This unexpected honor came with champagne, a bouquet of roses, a room upgrade, and access to the exclusive club lounge, which includes tea and cocktail hours.
As we made our way to our room, I was absolutely in awe. The decor was stunning, blending the hotel’s rich history with modern luxury. Once in our room, we were greeted with more treats as I took in the grandness of the room. I was particularly excited about the clawfoot bathtub, and even more thrilled to see they had provided bath salts for the ultimate indulgence.
After settling in, I took advantage of the afternoon High-Tea, which was an experience in itself. The selection of small bites, sweets, and the loose leaf jasmine tea was divine. It was the perfect way to relax and enjoy the elegant atmosphere of the hotel.
After tea, we joined a private tour of the hotel, which included a visit to the bomb shelters. The history of the Metropole, particularly its role during the Vietnam War, is fascinating. It was a humbling experience to walk through the historic halls and hear the stories that have shaped this legendary hotel.
Following the tour, my husband and I returned to the club lounge for cocktail hour. The service was exceptional, and the drinks were top-notch. Later, we met up with friends at the Bamboo Bar by the pool, where we spent the evening reminiscing about our two-week journey through Vietnam. The chilly night air was no match for the quick response of the staff, who promptly brought us blankets to keep warm. We savored cocktails, enjoyed delicious food, and shared unforgettable memories.
One thing we regret not doing was enjoying the heated pool, which was set to a perfect 79°F. Instead, I opted for a private bath back in our room, but the pool will definitely be on our list for next time.
In summary, staying at the Sofitel Legend Metropole was like living a dream. The impeccable service, luxurious amenities, rich history, and attention to detail made it the perfect way to end our time in Vietnam. I truly felt like a star, and this experience will forever be a highlight of our travels. If you want to indulge in the finest luxury Hanoi has to offer, this is the place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at this classic gem of a hotel. It is steeped in history dating back nearly 125 years and yet the rooms are updated and have all the modern conveniences. Our stay here was booked through a National Geographic tour and included an all you can eat breakfast in the iconic Conservatory dining room adjacent to the pool in the courtyard. Service at the hotel was unfailingly attentive and polite throughout our stay. No complaints from our tour group.
The hotel is well located within walking distance of multiple attractions, art stores and fine restaurants in Hanoi. You may even want to include a neighborhood Rickshaw ride experience available nearby .

Stayed 6 nights here in opera wing
Room lovely, sheets and pillows perfect
This is an older hotel so don’t think fancy pods and smart lighting.
Bath with shower, so beware if mobility issues
Gym fabulous although husband could use sauna after workout but not females as didn’t have access till 10 am. This needs to be addressed.
Bunker tour insightful and worth booking
We didn’t eat here as so many bars and eating places near by.
We felt the youngest in hotel at 60, lots of older Americans on big tours was the only downside, made the foyer feel like a bus stop
Stay here if you want history, pool and gym, not if your a hipster at heart

Great location, nice sized comfortable room that overlooked the garden. Really helpful and friendly staff and very easy to walk to the local attractions.
Had a great bar with a happy hour between 4 - 7 pm.
The only criticism I have is on the day we needed to leave early, we went to breakfast at 7:15 to be told that it was fully booked and we should come back on 1 hour. Problem being we were leaving at 8:30 so not able to have breakfast.

Special Occasion and Impressive Service
We visited this hotel for Christmas to celebrate a special occasion. From arrival to departure, we were deeply impressed by the staff’s attentive care and professional service.
The Club Lounge greeted us with a bouquet of flowers and congratulatory wishes, making our special day even more meaningful.
Unfortunately, my companion and I were not feeling well and had to rest in our room. Despite this not being the hotel’s fault, the staff continuously checked on our condition until check-out. We were impressed that all employees shared information about our situation and showed genuine concern.
1. Kindness at Bamboo Bar: Even after check-out, the staff at the Bamboo Bar were exceptionally kind and attentive.
2. Long’s Dedicated Assistance: When leaving for the airport, due to a taxi driver’s mistake, our cab arrived about 100m away from the hotel. Long, a staff member, carried our heavy luggage in both hands to that location and loaded it into the trunk. He also inquired about our health condition.
I’ve visited many hotels worldwide, but Long’s dedicated service remains memorable even a month later. I hope the hotel management properly recognizes these outstanding employees. The service at this hotel went beyond mere professionalism, showing genuine care and consideration, which made my travel experience truly special.

We had an amazing stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel in Hanoi. From the moment we arrived, the check-in process was quick and welcoming, and our room was super comfortable. Since we were celebrating my husband’s birthday, the hotel surprised us with a sweet gesture, some delicious macarons waiting for us in the room, which was such a nice touch.
The Christmas decorations were beautiful, with huge Christmas trees and so many little festive details all around the hotel, it really felt magical. Breakfast was a highlight for me, especially the pho soup, which was just delicious. The staff, both at breakfast and throughout the hotel, were so kind and attentive.
I also have to mention that I loved the toiletries in the room, they were so luxurious!
The hotel’s location is perfect, makes it easy to explore Hanoi. Overall, we had a wonderful time and would absolutely stay here again!

Bathroom was huge and well appointed. The bars were also top shelf as were the restaurants with a Michelin thrown in for good measure.
Gym well equiped and super large outdoor pool.
The bunker tour beneath the hotel was very interesting.
It is located in an area in which you can walk to many interesting features such as train street. Not cheap but definitely value for money. We will stay there again.

We arrived in Hanoi on the overnight Vietnam airlines direct flight from London Heathrow and took a cab from Noi Bai airport to breakfast at the Metropole. The buffet breakfast gave us our first taste of a delicious noodle and beef soup, Pho, in addition to smoked tuna, seabass and salmon. There is a chef on hand to cook eggs any way you want them, in addition to delicious pastry, eggs and bacon. The table service was attentive and welcoming. This was a wonderful introduction to Hanoi. Though a touch on the pricy side, you get what you pay for. The experience of sitting by the pool, crisp table linen and delicious coffee was memorable for all of right reasons. Highly recommended.

Hotel where Movistars and presidents stay when in Hanoi. Very Posh hotel
This hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Location is absolutely perfect to go walk around the city. It is a bit more pricey stay in Vietnam, but it is worth every penny. I think that I never seen such of huge selection for breakfast buffet in any other restaurant.

The hotel is a lovely French colonial style hotel with decent room sizes, fresh and clean. Good location and easy to get to the Ho Hoan Kiem lake and the Opera house. A short walk to the old quarter.
Staff were the least friendly of the four hotels we stayed in during our trip e.g. we asked to change some money and was told it was the weekend so we should use a cash machine. Eventually the front desk went to one of the many restaurants to get some currency. I asked for the Terrace Bar in English (three times), only when we asked for La Terrasse did the person at the desk offer (in English) to show us where it was. Small things but these are the things which make the difference.
Nice experience but missed the personal touch we enjoyed in the other hotels (including another Accor hotel) in Vietnam.

Everything was perfect. Though we have booked a room in the Opera Wing we have been upgraded to a very stylish Heritage Wing Room. Not only the room (with a nostalgic bathtub☺️) , the hotel in general as lobby, bars and restaurants were so elegant and tasteful - we felt completely comfortable during our stay. The staff was so caring and incredibly friendly - and on the other hand we had an easy conversation via whats App, eg when booking a restaurant.
Even one day before my birthday I was surprised with a lovely cake - thank you for that!
The location is also excellent, it takes 8 minutes to the Hoan Kiem Sea and even 5 minutes to the Opera House.
Sofitel Metropole Hanoi is one of the most elegant and stylish hotels of the world - if we come back to Hanoi , we definitely book here again.
What made us a little sorry: most of the guests dress inappropriately - which we find disrespectful when comparing how beautiful everything is in this place .
