We really loved the few nights we stayed here. The staff & hotel were amazing. The food was great. Really couldn’t fault this trip! We participated in some activities from the hotel such as wine pairing, afternoon boat trip, morning and we had a lovely time. The food was really delicious and great. Rooms were very comfy and spacious.

After three days in Porto we drove here for peaceful few days. We were met on arrival with cool towels, port and herbal tea, and some mixed nuts. After an easy check in, we were taken to a patio and told to ring the bell as a gesture that we have arrived home. This was a personal touch along with the two very friendly rescue dogs (Foxy and Aqua) who roamed throughout the hotel and joined us for all meals. The reception staff went above in assisting us before arrival with reservations to a lovely family-run quinta for port and wine tasting and a river cruise. After a quick tour of the property, we were escorted to our beautiful, quiet suite which overlooked the Douro river. Fruits, chocolates, port and lots of water were waiting for us. Room controls and communication with reception/spa/restaurants were all done via touch screen. There is an open bathroom with separate toilet and shower, huge bottles of toiletries which smelled fantastic along with comfy robes and slippers. The major drawbacks with the bathroom area are there isn't enough counter space or somewhere to sit and apply makeup nor is there anywhere practical to hang your towels. The bed and pillows are so comfortable you almost don't want to get out. Dinner on our first night was very special and excellent. It was also my husband's birthday and a surprise cake was brought out at the end. A bottle of champagne was also waiting for us in our room. That was truly wonderful and a lovely gesture. Breakfast is so beautifully presented and mind-blowing. There are so many options from eggs, fruits, salads, yogurts, granolas, bread and pastries to choose that it just goes on and on. At the entrance there is a huge liquid buffet with different vinegars, kombucha and elixirs. Then at the host area you also have choices of fresh juices. The a la carte menu is exceptional with daily specials and the bacon is to die for. Took advantage of the sauna on all three days and it was not crowded. Only drawback was the indoor pool and various saunas were not unisex so swimsuits were required (which I had to purchase). We drove through the gorgeous Douro valley every day and in the mornings the valet brought our car (which they washed!) with bottles of water for the trip. The staff are all very friendly and extremely helpful. This was a perfect retreat before our drive to Lisbon!

Check the schedule for different free and charged activities from pickle making to wine tasting to electric bikes and boat rides. Spa is amazing. Indoor pool almost as nice as outdoor pool. We didn’t want to leave! Pricey but worth it !

Loved every minute. Fantastic reception and everyone is so polite and cordial. The room is awesome with all the amenities you will need. Love the swimming pool and the views. The service is top notch as so is the food. I will come back for sure, for one more SPA...

The food is excellent, with plenty of choice. Finally, I couldn't go without mentioning the swimming pool. Very well framed by the surrounding vineyards and the Douro river as a backdrop. Beautiful hotel but still wouldn’t rank it with the top tier Amalfi Coast hotels. Pool service was 2.5 out of 5. Beautiful grounds and great food. Walking distance to neighbor hotel and winery. For the price, the value is so so. Still recommend though.

I have been a fan of Six Senses and thoroughly enjoyed Yao Noi in Thailand. However, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the Douro Valley one. First off the prices were off the chart expensive. Having paid over €7,000 for a room for three nights I was then surprised to be told it didn’t include breakfast and so it was another €300 to add breakfast - a great welcome! The building and location are beautiful but the hotel looks under maintained. There was damp in the room and the air conditioning created a pool of water on the floor overnight. I advised reception and they came quickly to fix it but on our return from breakfast we found our room door ajar with nobody inside. Usually service at Six Senses is brilliant and the Portuguese are good at it but the staff at Douro Valley were elusive and many seemed poorly trained. They got my lunch order wrong on all three days - once bringing me something that wasn’t even on the lunch menu. It is a shame because I can see how this could be a great hotel, I don’t know whether the issue lies in the local management or with the ultimate owner, IHG, forcing cut backs but I would prefer a Four Seasons or to spend time somewhere like La Residencia in Mallorca which looks much better value. I will think twice before going back to a Six Senses hotel.

Every sense taken care of, from arrival to departure. We stayed here for two nights prior to joining a land tour of Portugal and Spain. On the drive to this hotel, once you enter the Duoro Valley, you are immediately taken by the sheer beauty of the place and know why it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Miles upon miles of vineyards meticulously maintained. I believe even more vineyards than what I viewed on a river cruise along the Rhine. But back to the hotel. You are greeted by the property’s two dogs who will visit you intermittently throughout your stay. Our room overlooked a hillside vineyard and was wonderful. Bedding and linen were very comfortable. Better than the room was the food, curated by top chefs and prepared with only the freshest of ingredients from the gardens on the property. Every breakfast and dinner was outstanding. We especially enjoyed the spa where we both agreed we’d had one of the finest massages we ever had. All in all, a wonderful stay. You can take a local cruise down the river. But, tempting as that may be, you have to leave this Heaven of a property to do so!

Over rated …..lots of groups….guest rooms/hotel need update….bfast just ok …..one night all the restaurants were booked with groups and we had to eat in bar or room service …..is this what is Six Senses is….we will stay elsewhere…….spa however is very good !

Absolutely love Six Senses Douro. Great location, stunning hotel but the staff take it to another level. Stayed here 4 times and had 4 amazing holidays. Cannot recommend enough… really at the top of the six senses range - we’ve had 4 very different rooms during our 4 stays and each was superb

Six Sense Douro ticks all the boxes. Yes, it's expensive, but from check in to check out, you will leave feeling it was worth every cent. An easy drive from Porto, we check into the hotel and was warmly welcomed with a cool towel, a glass of port and herbal tea, and some mixed nuts should we feel peckish after the drive. While we refreshed ourselves and check in was attended to, we were greeted by resident dog Foxy. At check in, we were told to ring a bell as a gesture that we have arrived home. All these small personal touches set the tone for what I knew would be a marvelous stay, one that not even the rainy weather could dampen. We were given a tour of the property, breakfast restaurant, the bar, the wine library (use your room key to buy drinks!), a comfortable sitting room where complimentary tea and snacks were served throughout the day. Our room was still being prepared so we were shown to the bar where we could order drinks. Halfway through ooohing and ahhhing over the views, our hostess reappeared to show us to our room. Our room was a beautiful one overlooking the river and forest, it was quiet and serene. Welcomed with a fruit plate, and bubbly, we were told of all the available activities at the hotel, and all bookable and accessible via an ipad. Open bathroom with separate toilet and shower, lovely toiletries, complimentary tea and coffee facilities, and most important for me, generous supply of bottled water. We were also given robes, baskets to take to the spa, and rattan slippers. Bed is a dream, so comfy and huge! Multi plugs USB ports were all installed by the bedside. Housekeeping standards are kept high, and they are also unseen. We leave the room for a yoga class, 30 minutes later returned to find it tidied up and turned down for the evening. There were so many activities that you can sign up for at the hotel, I felt I wanted to cancel everything an just stay in the hotel! The gym is well equipped and large, the indoor pool is fantastic, hot/cold pools, sound pool, then its off to the steam and sauna rooms. Sign up for the yoga or core classes, these are usually included in the room rate. It was raining while we were there, or I imagine the group morning walks would have been beautiful. Food is excellent, elevated traditional Portuguese. Now breakfast is on a whole new level! The buffet spread is not the biggest, but what impressed me is the menu. There are specials of the day, in addition to an extensive menu of breakfast items, from salads to eggs, to fruit and granola bowls. Every morning we were welcomed with a plate of beautifully arranged fruit, coffees, teas, juice. Main course arrives beautifully plated. Best bacon I have ever had and I do not say this lightly. Greaseless, fat completely rendered, paper thin and crisp, and all rashers are trimmed to the same size. The sheer attention to detail just for a hotel breakfast is astounding. Did I mention there's also a whole table full of kombucha and kefirs and ciders laid out at the entrance to the breakfast restaurant? The gems of this place lies with the people who run it. Everyone was genuinely interested in YOU, the guest. Everyone you pass or you meet around the hotel genuinely want to know if you were having a good time, and how they could make your stay even better. I casually mentioned to Jose the hotel manager how much I loved Portuguese breads and cake, and he made arrangements to have an Easter bread delivered to my suite at the end of the day, for us to take with us. The valet greeted us every day with our car sprayed down and windows squeegeed clean (bet you didn't know they did that!) with water stocked in our car, and reappeared to take our car when we returned, even the hotel dogs Aqua and Foxy were warm and welcoming. A stay at the Six Senses is not cheap, in fact the price had tripled from the time I first booked it in 2019, but I am more than happy with what I received in return, and we can't wait to be back!

A disappointing stay that capped off with sunglasses being removed from the room while we were at dinner the last night. The staff reported no discovery of them when asked. Take the warning at check-in to use the safe seriously. If you go, use the safe at all times, for anything you do not want walking away. One of the suites was not worth any additional charge for more room. There are two suites, and one overlooks the hotel dining patio which is in an alcove in the building, so has limited views. The shades can rarely be opened because there is no privacy. The “balcony” barely fits a tiny table and chairs. There are people right below all day and at night, there are people and music until 11:30 pm. The night I called and asked when the music would be off, they hung up. It felt very claustrophobic and not at all worth an additional price. The upside of the hotel is beautiful views from the patios/common areas and the food was very good. There is a delicious breakfast that is abundant, and can be taken inside or out. If interested in wine, the hotel wine shop is overpriced, and the many quintas, plus the wine shop we visited in town had much lower prices and shipping. The Som at the Chefs Table experience is questionable as it was a pairing and despite different meals for vegetarian and regular, he served the same “wine pairings” throughout - one of which was a beer. There was also a room key for a wine service in the bar, that didn’t work. If you go with low expectations overall, you may be satisfied with the stay. If you are expecting a luxury experience, this is not the place.

Absolute perfection. Superior service, great spa, fantastic food and restaurant. Just pure enjoyment, very romantic for couples who are looking to get away and enjoy life. Also tried some experiences and they were all outstanding. Highly recommended!

We first visited the Six Senses Douro Valley 3 years ago and were wowed not only by the beautiful surroundings, the stunning hotel but mostly by the staff and management. This being our third visit was yet again impressive. There’s a real sense of peace at the hotel, nothing is too much trouble and it’s clear that the staff love working there and are passionate about the location I’m so impressed with the way in which this hotel is managed - absolutely love it.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here as part of our honeymoon trip through Portugal. We arrived at the end of a stomach bug we picked up in Lisbon and it was the best place to recover and re-charge. We were upgraded (thank you!) to a Rooftop Vineyard suite (I think) and it was a beautifully designed space. We had to cancel a dinner but were able to participate in a pickling class. Six Senses shines at breakfast which was hands down the most impressive breakfast spread I've ever seen-- and were the best meals we had at the resort. Dinners were good but nothing like the approach of breakfast. We loved our massages and our time at the pool/saunas and also adored the two dogs at the resort Aqua and Foxy.
