This place is absolutely wonderful! My husband and I came for a full well on our babymoon and we had never visited an all inclusive resort before. This was above and beyond our expectations. The weather was amazing the whole time we were here. From Day 1, our entire check in process was smooth and efficient. We were also part of the preferred club which is a nice addition to have as it has its own check in area and a place to stop by just before our hotel room. The staff in all areas was splendid and always warm. Our room had a beautiful balcony with a view of the ocean and even a hot tub outside! Every day had housekeeping and turndown service which was impeccable. Anytime you needed something, you could easily request on the app or the concierge downstairs. One of my favorite things about this place was the Entertainment Team! We played volleyball 2x a day and the staff was always so fun, especially Liz, Max, Gina and Alejandro. The entertainment team did a wonderful job with other events such as the Voice Akumal, Karaoke night on our last night and all other sporting activities. We brought our own snorkel gear which was well worth it. We didn’t get to see any turtles but sooo many fish! Turtles can be seen early in the morning but we didn’t get up early as we were so busy relaxing and enjoying our time. We also brought our own water shoes which was good as the water had lots of seaweed and rocks. Getting a chair with an umbrella can be tough sometimes on the beach or the pool but it’s doable! The restaurants we tried were good too! I was hesitant about food quality at an all inclusive resort but this one was pretty god. My favorite place was Himitsu (didn’t even do the Hibachi reservation) and Bordeaux, the French restaurant. There’s plenty of lunch options too but usually we ate from the outdoor grill they have by the pools every day from 12:30-2:30! Room service is also 24/7 along with Coco Cafe which had some sweet treats, drinks and little sandwiches. I hope to come back sometime again and bring other friends too as it had something for everyone! Next time I’ll be sure to try any excursions (just didn’t plan ahead this time and also 7 months pregnant!) but nonetheless we had such a wonderful time :)

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Akumal from March 8 – 15, 2025. We had an amazing vacation and would definitely return to this resort. We are also Unlimited Vacation club, non-preferred. I think it’s important to highlight what type of vacationers we are. I am a very active vacationer, I love being in the water, participating in the activities offered by the resort. My husband is happy to sit in a beach chair and read through 5-6 books while sipping on local beer and occasionally going in the ocean and pool. I am going to go through all the aspects of the resort/vacation in this review THE ROOM We were in room 9114, a junior suite swim out. The building is located at the back of the property. The room was huge (for my standards) Lots of drawers and space in the closet. The TV had several US channels and a few in Spanish. The bathroom had a very large jacuzzi tub (which I used for my wet gear). The walk in shower came with very nice large bottles of bergamont smelling shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. There was also lotion on the sink. I used all of these and they were good quality. I do think that the towels were a little rough/scratchy, I wish they had been softer, but I don’t typically encounter super soft towels at resorts. Housekeeping did a great job of replacing towels, making beds, and turn down service every day. My husband used the swim out pool almost every day, he would come back to the room early and hang out in the pool and read because it was out of the sun. The pool got direct sunlight during the day so by the late afternoon it was a comfortable temperature. THE PROPERTY This is one of the most beautiful properties I have been on, largely because there is so much wonderful landscaping. It feels like you are in a jungle. We saw raccoons, coati’s, snakes, iguanas, and several bird species. There are also a lot of little ponds with fish around the property. If you like taking a lot of nicely posed pictures, this property really provides a great opportunity for that as well. I have no sense of direction so it took me most of our time there to get the hang of which path was the most efficient way to get from our room to the beach and back, that being said if you are in a closer room, you may not experience that, but I encourage you to walk around and explore the property none-the-less. THE STAFF The staff are super friendly and helpful. They are courteous and will always ask if they can help you in any way. They are very formal, which is appreciated. Our Concierge was Jose, and he was awesome. I had a few questions throughout the stay and he was very prompt in getting me an answer. One day I asked him about getting postage stamps as a gift for a family member and he went on his day off and bought me stamps. That was above and beyond and I was very grateful. The entertainment staff blew me away with how friendly and engaging they were. The resort provides TONS of activities and I took full advantage. I want to highlight Carlos, Javier, Gina, Carla, Arantxa, Mayra, Octavio and Oliver for really making me feel very welcome and excited about the activities. Gina helped set up a doubles volleyball game with me, Octavio and Oliver, which was very thoughtful and I sincerely appreciated. They are some of the most dedicated activities staff I have encountered at a Hyatt property. I also give the entertainment staff a lot of credit because they walked around and encouraged the guests to participate, but didn’t make you feel bad if you didn’t want to, not an easy thing to round up participants. The service around the pool/beach areas was spot on. They were very attentive and often remembered what you drank from day to day so it felt like the staff really paid attention. THE FOOD I thought that the selection of food options at this resort was very strong and overall very well done. My husband commented that the ribeye steak at seaside grill was one of the best steaks he ever had. I thought the steak at Bordeaux was also really wonderful as well. The buffet had a great section highlighting Mexican cuisine so I tried chilaquiles and tamale. The fresh fruits and juices were also really refreshing. We really enjoyed the hibachi, I know those happen in a lot of places, but it was a great show and the food tasted wonderful as well. We also really appreciated all the food options at lunchtime around the pool as we typically didn’t want to change into dry clothes to eat. DAYTIME ENTERTAINMENT As I said before the staff were amazing, but the amount of different offerings was also quite amazing. They had activities about every 30 minutes to an hour. From Spanish lessons, aquafit, volleyball, “crazy games in the pool”, art activities, bracelet making, sushi lessons, there were TONS of ways to participate. There was also no pressure if you just wanted to relax. NIGHTTIME ENTERTAINMENT The nighttime entertainment came from outside companies and it was well rounded. There was a pirate show with fire performers, different dancing presentations, “The voice”, a beatles show. Afterwards there was dancing in the disco as well. Some of the shows happened with an outdoor dinner element which was pretty nice and the food selection was very good. BEACH AREA The sand was super soft, but there were some rocky areas so consider water shoes. This time of year there is a TON of sargassum, they shovel it into trucks and take it away. That happned mostly on the really windy days, which is also common for this time of year. Just be aware you will see a lot of seaweed. SEALIFE IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA I snorkeled once (because I dove 3 days) and there weren't a ton of fish in the swim area, but if you pay to go with a guide in the conservation areas, I was told you would see a lot of turtles. The most wildlife in the immediate area was towards the end of the resort by the buoy line, but you can't go past that because it is a protected area. We would definitely come back to Secrets Akumal in the future because the resort is very well rounded and has all the elements I enjoy in a vacation. I also appreciated that there was a dive shop up the beach and I felt very safe walking there. Thank you to everyone for making this such an excellent vacation for us!!!!

I won't bore you with a step by step review of this place because the other reviewers nailed it on the head. Secrets Akumal is by far and away the best all-inclusive resort I have ever been to. Our trip was the first trip in a very long time that I didn't feel like going home at the end. I can't say the service was above and beyond good because that would be deluding it. Every worker made you feel like you were the only person there. Everything that I requested was done without question or delay. When I needed a band-aid, they came with 5. When I needed to boost my electrolytes, they came with Power Aid. It is insane how good everybody is. The food was good. It's not the best I've had, but it's still very good. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be back here again

My wife and I celebrated our 10-year anniversary at Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya, and it was phenomenal. The resort’s pristine beaches, infinity pools, and gourmet dining were top-notch, but our concierge, Billie, made it truly unforgettable. She helped us get upgraded us to the Presidential Suite with ocean views for our last night. It was perfect for our milestone. Billie also helped us book a private dinner in the wine cellar. Wow. It was the highlight of our trip. The sommelier recommended an amazing cabernet from Chile. Chef Joel met us and explained the courses we were about to enjoy. The food was fantastic, one of the best meals we have experienced. The arancini was top tier! We booked Preferred junior king swim out suite through Costco. This is truly the way to go. The preferred club bar in building 4 is a really nice touch if you enjoy a fine cocktail. Cruz and the guys served us very well. Amazing service! This was our second time at a Secrets resort (first was Wild Orchid in Jamaica). We will be back!

Best All-Inclusive we’ve stayed at. The activities were so much fun. The Snorkeling is fantastic. What makes it so special though is the staff. Everyone is extremely friendly and hard working. They made our experience what it was. Food and drinks were also great.

Secrets Akumal is a gem of a resort. Service is excellent. Food is awesome. And all the little extra touches are appreciated. We had a fabulous holiday. Carlos and Alejandro from the entertainment team were excellent guides on our turtle tour. They were professional and friendly and helpful. They made the tour fantastic. We saw lots of turtles. Leedy our concierge in building three was attentive, helpful, and always smiling. We felt we could ask her anything. Alejandro from beach services was quick to find us a beach seat and expertly got our beach lounge ready for us. He Always called us by name and was eager to help with anything. Sharon and Abrahim were wonderful beach servers and looked after us every day constantly coming around and asking us if we needed any drinks or water. Our room in building three had a beautiful patio that we sat in for sunset every night. We will be back!!! Thank you to the Secrets Akumal team!!! 🙏🙏

Our concierge was Ricardo who helped out with reservations and kept us updated on activities and shows. Will we go again? Yes!

Just back from a fabulous holiday at Secrets Akumal, a truly beautiful hotel with great staff. All the restaurants and bars, particularly the Lobby, were great and the Hibachi table is a must do for sure. A special mention to all the breakfast and lunch staff at the Seaside Grill, particularly Baltazar for his fantastic service and sense of humour. Jaime and his whole team at the grill made us incredibly welcome, they were both professional and friendly and the food was great too. Nothing was too much trouble, even my allergy to onion of all things. Thanks to our concierge Billie, and her colleagues, for helping with all our questions and requests. We spent most days at the middle pool being supplied drinks by the ever attentive Ishmail, whilst David kept everything in order and ensure everyone who needed a sunbed had one. A shout out to the landscaping team too as the grounds are beautiful by day and magical at night. We have stayed in several other Secrets resorts but this is now firmly our favourite.

This was our first visit to Akumal ; we visited Maroma in 2015 and 2016, and Playa Blanca in April 2024. Check in/out - super super easy. We arrived at 11am and went right to the preferred club to check in. They let us know to come back after 3pm for our room key and to go ahead and enjoy the property until then. Check out we completed on our last night so we didn’t have to worry about it the morning of our departure. Preferred club - didn’t feel especially worth it here. No preferred pool. The lounge was fine, had some snacks all day and books to borrow, board/card games. We had a PC ocean view king room 5309 and the “ocean view” was laughable. If I stretched on my tippy toes and squinted I could see a small speck of the ocean lol the included hydrotherapy circuit was really nice and we enjoyed that perk but we would not book PC again here. Pools - the towel/chair game is in full force here. Granted we went at high time, but by 745am there was not a single chair to be found at the front two pools. Concierge does their best and will remove belongings if left 40+ mins before 10am… but I can’t imagine being a guest here and getting told “sorry, nowhere to sit.” We saw people setting their belongings on the ground because they just had no choice. Otherwise, pools were nice overall. Amazing service by the pool - special mention to David the concierge who always helped us get set up for the day, and our fav waiter Samuel who truly made our week. He was so kind and worked incredibly hard every day. Beach - if you like long walks on the beach, this may not be the resort for you. Not very far to go either direction. Obviously close proximity to the snorkeling. We set up a snorkel tour with Chino on the beach and it was really nice to be able to walk over and do that versus having to do a transfer. We also saw many fish and some rays right in front of the hotel. We booked a Bali bed on our last day as it was our anniversary. The service was okay - we had more attentive service at the pool than our Bali bed. Food - the food was so good. We really had zero complaints. We ate at Himitsu (regular menu), AkuMart food stations, Portofino, Seaside for both lunch & dinner, and Market Cafe every day for breakfast. Himitsu is our fav every resort, so good! Rooms - rooms were nice. Nothing super special. Housekeeping was great and we declined turn down service because it just didn’t work with our evening schedule. We didn’t mind though. Grounds - very very very lush and lots of paths to get lost in haha we just always enjoyed the scenery and eventually found where we needed to go. LOTS of wildlife!! Iguanas and raccoons everywhere. If I had to complain about one thing… we traveled here for our 10th anniversary and mentioned it to our e-concierge, preferred club check in, building concierge, etc and absolutely ZERO was done for that. Previous secrets visits they’d decorate the room, a special dessert at dinner, etc. and we were a little let down that nothing was done to help us celebrate. We enjoyed our visit and it was right for the price. We preferred Playa Blanca but wouldn’t hesitate to return to Akumal since PB has been priced ridiculously high. The staff here were absolutely amazing and everyone was so hard working. They truly made our week!

Our Concierge Karina has made our trip very special and handled EVERY request quickly and professionally. The staff is very upbeat , polite and ready to help. The Facilities , Rooms and grounds are meticulously maintained. The Food is Excellent. It has been a pleasure to enjoy this experience.

Arrived March 17-24. Had another amazing vacation. Check in was flawless . Karina ( building concierge) was attentive and super awesome! Rooms are spacious with lots of storage. First few days at the pool, staff was taking down room #'s and names (that's changed since we were there last) and told someone had to be at our chairs at all times. Then they were giving us 10 min away. Finally due to circumstances they gave us 40mins to eat then be back. Like I said that's something new. Probably someone abusing the lounge chairs. Shout-out to the pool concierges David and Antonio for their kindness and always making sure everyone had fun. Pool waiters Abraham, Karla and Fillipe for remembering our drinks and swiftness in getting them there! The bartenders at the snack bar Jorge and Mario for always making sure we had the best of the best! Beach waiter Hector (AKA The protector) you are the best and irreplaceable! The entertainment team was truly motivating and I absolutely loved Lizbeth. Can't wait to see everyone again in September ❤️

Overall, the resort is beautifully kept and shows promise with moments of brilliance, but falls short of a truly world-class experience. The top-tier service from some staff members is occasionally undermined by subpar dining and sporadic service lapses. Potential for improvement exists with more consistent training and culinary refinement. Recommendation: Needs some work to truly deliver a five-star diamond experience.

He went above and beyond every day to make our experience memorable. He was constantly attentive to us and every guest at the pool. We would come back just to have the hospitality experience here with David. If he could travel everywhere with us, that would be a dream!!!! My husband and I did a week vacation here and have nothing but good things to say! The food was absolutely amazing, the staff was very intentional and accommodating, everything was timeless and clean, just a wonderful atmosphere overall. Diana was our concierge and was so cheery every time we walked past her desk, eager to help us in anyway she could! I got a relaxing massage at the spa by Michelle and my experience was worth every penny! Liz, Carla, and Gina from the entertainment staff were so fun and engaging! It always amazes me how well they remember our names and keep us involved in many fun activities like a pool spin class which I would highly recommend and they were a riot at the silent disco! Carla ended up chatting with us by the pool for a while one day and just the fact she took the time to answer our random questions about tourism and Mexican culture was so sweet! Richardo, Israel made sure we never went thirsty all week. Often I would tell Richardo he could make whatever drink he felt like and I was never disappointed! He remembered that I didn't like drinks too sweet from the first day I said it and always made something amazing! He is a talented mixologist! David was often checking on us by the pool and making sure we had everything we needed and more! He would even bring fresh towels for us while we were in the pool and adjust our umbrella for shade without us even asking! He went absolutely above and beyond. Out of our 5 different all inclusive experiences at various resorts this was the best thanks to the great staff and food!

From the moment you enter the gate from the main road- you already get a true sense of a 5* resort… you pull up to a georgeous lobby, greeted by bellman- given a refreshing towel and drink. Because we booked a room in the preferred area wisk you away in a golf cart to check in at a separate preferred lounge. They have a bar and hors d’oeuvres there as you begin the check-in process . After the check-in process, they do have some sales pitch. A sales person come up to you and try to convince you to go on a two hour breakfast and tour of the resort as a timeshare sell. thankfully, we read from other reviews at this will happen so we were able to quickly diffuse it And say no politely. This i feel they can do without. It is a bit tacky I feel. Another person walked us up to our ocean view suite. Corner room on the 3rd floor. Great view!! We had great weather for the four out of five days we were here. The beach was absolutely beautiful. The snorkeling was great right off the beach very little sargassum. The typical having to wake up at the crack of dawn to get a decent Palapa on the beach, which is annoying but I guess all inclusive places have no control over that by about nine or 10 AM pretty much every seat at the pools were also taken as it was a very busy week 3rd week of March. The staff at this resort, truly do care and make sure you are comfortable in every way possible from delivering food and drinks to getting an umbrella. Wow they are amazing to say the least. The food has also been unbelievable from the restaurants to the barbecues to the à la carte buffets all amazing. Definitely highly recommend if you want to go and rest, unwind, and be pampered., This is truly the place.

We recently got back from a week at Secrets Akumal and what a trip! I can echo all the positive comments that others have said. From the staff, to the grounds, to the food, to the drinks…everything was top notch. We’ve been to 9 all-inclusives in the Caribbean over the past 10-15 years, including Excellence resorts and another Secrets, and this was likely our favourite. Staff: The staff were amazing. They were always around and in a great mood. This was probably the most servers we have ever seen at the beach and around the pools. Before you had one drink gone they were there taking your order for the next one. Food: We tried all the “al a carte” except the Italian one and loved them all. As is usually the case, the French restaurant was our favourite and we went back a second time for our last night. We requested the same server, Rafael, as we had such a good experience the first time. He offered to do up a special dinner for our last night that was not on the menu. Let me tell you, it was the best meal I have ever had…anywhere. Also a shout-out to the guy at the pizza oven. Wow, what pizza! Other than the French restaurant the portion size was big and I had to stop ordering two entrees. They also had theme nights where they had a buffet meal and a show. We did one but decided to stick to the restaurants the rest of the time. You didn’t have to get dresses up for the theme nights and I suspect people liked that. Resort/Grounds: This resort was amazing. Everything was clean and well looked after. This is the most trees we’ve ever seen at a resort and even by the last day we were taking different trails from our room to the beach. We had no problems getting the drinks we wanted although there was not as big a selection of frozen drinks as we have had elsewhere. Maybe we just need to ask. We had a swim out room in 9b and the water was cooler than in the pools. Our room was on the corner and we did have some afternoon sun in our pool between buildings 9b and 9c but otherwise it’s in the shade in the afternoons. Next time we won’t bother with a swim out as the “Lagoon” pool was very quiet and warm and had lots of sun. It too had waiter service and was right next to the sports bar anyway. We loved the occasional visits from the iguanas and racoons. Scuba diving: I dove 4 days with Akumal Dive Shop. They were fantastic. I saw turtles every dive and on the shallow dives saw several every trip. I also saw a shark, eel, and a bunch of lobster, tiger fish, squid, etc. Their shop is only about 5 minutes up the beach and I made the arrangements through Dana online before arriving. They do four dives per day at 0830, 1030, 1230, and 230. It’s only a 5-10 minute boat ride to the sites and they return to the shop between dives. I choose them over Akumal Dive Center as the ADS went out a bit earlier and I’m a morning person. Both seemed to have good reviews. Beach: The beach did have sea grass (sargassum) washing up every day but the workers had it cleaned up by the afternoon most days. There is a reef offshore so there is not much wave action along the beach. I’ve swam and snorkelled at nicer beaches but never with turtles. They are right there just offshore in like 4-6 feet of water. I found first thing in the morning was best, but I did see them at other times during the day. Bring your own mask and snorkel so you can go for a swim whenever you want. The only negative things we could mention are: 1. There were some larger groups that could take up some of the space and be a bit loud at times. There were 3 or 4 weddings and those are held in the archway just down from our room in building 9b. There was also a large group there for something else. One morning they set up games for them on the beach and we had to move from our palapa as they basically took over that area. 2. In the evenings they had live music at the lobby bar. This was nice and relaxing. However, after it was over it switched to silent disco, and this really ruined the mood when you had these people dancing around with no music playing. Maybe the resort would consider having this activity elsewhere? We flew Sunwing out of Canada and transfer to/from the airport is included. It took us just over 2 hours each way as we had to make 3 stops, but it gave us a chance to see more of the country, so we didn’t mind. The drive is worth it to get to this amazing resort. So bottom line, 10/10 on this one. How good was it? We’re already book for next April and this will be the first time we’ve gone back to the same resort for a second time. Bravo Secrets Akumal! Secrets Akumal was absolute paradise! We were treated like royalty, we were so welcomed, we will always remember how special all the staff made us feel! Our room concierge Ricardo in building 9B is a credit to the hotel, he is so lovely and he went out of his way to make sure we were having the best time. He organised a special breakfast on the balcony for us complimentary as it was our honeymoon, he would come to the pool to find us to have chats to see how we were regularly throughout our two week stay.. he would suggest the best restaurants and would even message me on watsapp to make sure we were okay! Special thanks to Antonio the pool concierge who looked after us and really got to know us well. We are already missing our chats with you both! All of the staff remember your name, you feel like you are at home, all the staff make you feel so welcomed and special! We spent most of our 2 weeks in the quiet pool, we loved floating around on the beds everyday that the hotel provides with the relaxing background sounds. The drinks service was amazing at this pool the waiter would constantly come round and ask you what you want. You can also order food to your sun lounger! In the afternoons they would come round with ice cold towels to keep you cool and an ice cream cart! There are 2 more pools, one with a swim up bar which is quite vibey with live music and a dj- its actually a lot more upbeat here than we expected! Usually we are up for this sort of vibe more, but we loved the quite pool as it felt more romantic as it was not as busy and it was so relaxing! The entertainment in the evening was so good, the show we saw in the theatre was amazing it felt like broadway show in London! I also took part in the ‘voice’ singing show in the theatre where I sang with a live band, I came 2nd out of 6 people and I won a romantic dinner on the beach for me and my husband which was stunning! It was so fun to take part and to have an audience watching- a great experience! We went to the desires club one night to do karaoke which was fun, it turned into a club after and it was such a good atmosphere everyone dancing! The room is beautiful- loved the hot tub in the room. Room service was amazing, 24 hours a day, free and unlimited. This hotel is unbelievably luxury, it is out of this world beautiful as it is set in a jungle with lizards everywhere, it really felt like we were in a jungle, our photos turned out beautiful! + the beach is stunning- loved the swing for pictures!! They really have thought of everything here, if you want to relax or have a more vibey holiday, you really can do both here, you won’t be bored! The people here are so lovely, friendly and welcoming. It really makes the whole experience so much better. We would like to thank everyone especially the following employees: Karen, Preferred concierge David, Alexandro and Luis, Pool concierges Filippe, Wilmet and Sharon: Pool waiters Our room was located in the Preferred section and was quite beautiful, comfortable and beside one day, it was properly cleaned. Overall, the grounds are beautiful but not well maintained. During our 7 days stay, we never seen a gardener around the premises nor sprinkler to water the beautiful gardens that were simply deprived from water and drying out. The same was noticed as for the lack of pool maintenance; during our stay, we only saw one person cleaning the pool in the morning. The beach which unfortunately at the time of the trip, presented a lot of sargassum, but an effort was made to pick it up beside the last day of our trip that did not allow us to walk on the beach. Beside the VIP lounge in the Preferred section, the mixed drinks were definitely light pours across the board, but that's probably to be expected at an all-inclusive. As for the restaurants, we definitely liked the Bordeaux (French cuisine) and for lunch the Seaside where you can eat very good fish. Our main concern was the regulation around the pool areas. You cannot leave your chair for more than 40 minutes, if not, they will remove your belongings. However, In the Preferred beach area, they would at least allow 60 minutes. The second concern was about allowing clients to bring their dogs on vacation. We both like dogs but do not want to be seated near them. We found this quite disturbing for a 5 stars resort. This was our second time at this resort and sadly to say that we will not be returning and will not recommend it to our family and friends.

Starting with check-in, we were escorted to the preferred lounge and treated to some fabulous snacks and drinks while the quick process of getting our room. Room was great, and liked the jungle view. We were in building 8 which is further back from the beach but the views here were still very spectacular. Room amenities were great and didn't lack in anything. Room service was always great and early. Here they also have a concierge for each building and we had a fabulous lady Karina. She was so sweet and attentive and regularly checked to see if there was anything she could do to make our stay more enjoyable. Also a wealth of information. The beach was beautiful, there was a fair amount of seaweed, but they did a great job removing it every day! This being said we were still able to swim in the ocean every day. Lots of sea life right here too, with fish, stingrays, and turtles and very calm water to snorkel in. Pools were also very enjoyable, with no issues getting a lounger or towels. Drinks were promptly served at the pools and the beach. Shout out to Felipe at the beach and Abraham at pool 2 for the best service overall, but they were all very good. Also Alejandro the beach concierge on preferred side was great at location a lounger and getting towels when we needed. Antonio and Julio were our waiter for the Cinco de Mayo show by pool 2. He was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The shows were great!! We had a lovely romantic dinner on the beach and Mario was fantastic! The fairy lights light up in the shape of a heart and all the extra touches made this night feel very special!! If you get the chance to do this, I highly recommend it. The food was unreal and made for a memorable experience. We enjoyed every meal we had at the a la carte restaurants, with Seaside Grill our favorite overall. Arturo at Bordeaux restaurant was awesome! Very attentive, offered great GF suggestions and always ensured our wine was filled. So friendly and joked a lot! Lot's of Gluten Free options for those that require it and they are very good at asking for allergies. The spa is a must!! Reyna walked us through our water treatment and very nice. Carolina and Astrid did our 80 minute massage and they did not disappoint. Great relaxation massage! This property is incredibly beautiful and an amazing experience and we will definitely be back!

This is a fantastic hotel. We have been to Mexico quite a few times and this is the best hotel we have stayed in. The service is excellent, the food is delicious, the drinks are top class, the facilities are great. We loved that there are 6 different a la carte restaurants and you don’t have to book at all, you just turn up and we never had a problem getting a table. There are so many choices for pools and beach and we never had any problem getting sunbeds, even arriving after lunch after a trip to Tulum. It’s definitely a hotel to relax in rather than party party, although there was both daytime and evening entertainment and activities, plus BBQs some lunchtimes and theme nights and shows too. The main pool with the swim up bar did get lively at times but nothing out of hand, all good fun. Every accommodation block has its own concierge and nothing is too much trouble for them. Our concierge was Karina, she was brilliant. Special mention also to Velvet at the beach who endlessly brought us drinks, Johana at the lobby bar who took great care of us, and Jesus who popped up everywhere, from the (lovely) Coco Cafe to the beach bars. Very highly recommended.

2nd time to secrets akumel and wow what another great stay, Firstly the staff who are all brilliant, when we stay you interact with certain staff more and this time that was also the case, Antonio and Luis firstly are such hard workers and truly brilliant, Carlos, Oscar , Max in the entertainment team are soooo good at what they do, Gina, and Alexandra, now concierge never disappoints both are so lovely, Alberto our waiter in either the Preferred club or by the pool was the best, his service and smile each day was the best I’ve had, and trust me I’ve stayed at some top hotels, David was new to us this year, and wow he was good , so professional and courteous and knowledgeable we were blown away by his personality and professionalism, I think personally he would make a brilliant concierge, he has that ability and touch. Ruben also new to us this year was excellente, very good at what he does and very polite, I used to gatecrash there staff meeting some mornings which was so much fun. Boudreaux french restaurant and staff are excellente, we personally had to meet the chef to thank him for such nice food, we went 4 times. All staff and the hotel are so nice , and the entertainment and themed lunches and dinner awesome, the resort it self is very clean and tidy and always being attended to. Probably the best resort I have stayed in and the wife and I are well travelled. The spa was a highlight, thanks to Michelle and Imalda, whose skill and care made our treatments pure bliss. We really enjoyed the tequila tasting experience and swimming with turtles, which we felt were great value add ons. We further saw turtles in the sea on our final day! Food and drink was great. All restaurants were really helpful and reassuring with our nut allergy, in terms of adapting options and providing information. Room & room service, always clean and attended to our needs. Especially turn down who made our room as requested. Spa & gym were the only areas we would say were not as positive. Some gym equipment was a bit tired and only one bike available but this is personal preference. The spa was great when we went however the daily and multiple times a day sales pitch was annoying, we felt at the beach and pools relaxing to be asked everyday if we wanted spa treatment was too much. But when we said no thanks we were left alone. Few tips from us…. If you’re a light sleeper bring some ear plugs… we could hear some guests who had partied a bit later than us. We brought our sea/rock shoes and snorkels which we used daily, you can hire snorkels though. Get up early and watch the sunrise! We already want to come back to this absolute paradise🏝️

We just returned from an amazing trip with two other couples and celebrated birthdays while we were there. We started our trip at Secrets Maroma and moved to Secrets Akumal. My husband and I have been to both before but it has been some time. Secrets Akumal is by far the most amazing place. I am hard to please and I do not have one single complaint. Maroma isn't what it used to be so we don't have plans to go back there and that's saying a lot because it is also great. The two other couples both have their favorite spots in Mexico one being Valentin Imperial and they agree Akumal is by far the best. The resort is stunning. It's been 7 years since we have been there and the grounds have overgrown with tropical vibes in the best way possible. You find yourself lost in a jungle very fast because you can't see the buildings. it's so pretty! The staff is wonderful. Our building concierge, Karina, was amazing. She decorated our room for my birthday with balloons and streamers and a nice card. She helped us with any questions we had always with a smile. The food was so good. Far better than we expected. The filet at Bordeaux is so good. The poolside options are exquisite. Fernando at Himitsu was an amazing waiter and so friendly. The sushi there is so good. We found the menus at Akumal to be more extensive than Maroma. Especially the room service menu. Sharon at the pool was so great making sure we had drinks each day and was the friendliest gal. We didn't hang by the pool bar except one day walked over there to have a drink. Jorge was the only negative encounter we had all week. There were 8 of us and my friend ordered all the drinks and Jorge told us he could not serve that many drinks to us despite all 8 of us literally standing there. He seemed very angry and possibly people weren't tipping because they were in the pool. I'm not sure what it was but he's the only rude person we talked to all week. The ocean had some seaweed but they work hard to control it. It didn't stop us from enjoying the beautiful waters. We brought our own snorkel gear to see the turtles on our own but were unsuccessful due to them not letting you go very far out without having a paid tour. We talked to a couple randoms on the beach who offered us to go with them for $30 pp but we ended up going with the entertainment team at Secrets (shout out to Javier!) and it was $49pp and money well spent. They really work hard to protect the turtles and we understand why it's a protected area and only swimmable out that far with a guide making sure everyone is following the rules. Just a heads up that even if you plan to see them yourself, you may need to book a tour to be able to go out far enough. We saw so many it was amazing. Overall the entertainment team was so fun. I wish i could remember the girls names who did water aerobics with us but that class was so fun and it's a hard workout. I go to F45 every day and i still found that a good option for a workout. The pool basketball was also fun! The karaoke at Desires was a blast. Overall, you can't go wrong with this as your choice. We can't wait to go back!

We were treated like Royalty by EVERY staff member we encountered, it didn't matter if it was the grounds workers, cleaning workers, or pool workers--everyone would help if we asked questions. Special shoutout to Isabela at the Market Restaurant, she was so friendly with a sweet smile each morning and also to Francisco at the Hisitimu restaurant, really friendly and helpful. Our concierge, Luis, was extremely helpful everyday, Pool lounge chairs were ample at every pool. Dinners were delicious. The beach front is sparkling blue and clean. The resort is about 90 minutes from the Cancun airport, so it's a good ride but Amstar transportation, Jonathan, was very friendly as we drove to the resort. YES, we definitely recommend this resort and will return back soon.

One of the absolute highlights of the trip was the romantic dinner on the beach. The food was delicious, and our attendants – Ricardo, Mario, and Louis – made the evening truly unforgettable. Snorkeling right off the beach was a blast, and the snorkel tour at the turtle sanctuary was simply amazing! We will absolutely return to this resort again and again!

At the pool, Basilio, Ruben, and Jose took incredible care of us. They were always around with a smile, making sure our drinks were full and we had everything we needed to relax. Max from the entertainment team also deserves special mention — his energy and enthusiasm brought so much fun to the day, whether it was pool games, music, or just creating a great vibe. The tropical grounds can feel a bit overwhelming at first with all the winding paths, but honestly, it’s part of the charm. The lush scenery is beautiful, and the landscaping crews are out every day keeping it immaculate. It really feels like a hidden paradise. We especially loved the lunch buffets by the pool — fresh, delicious, and always with a great selection. If I had one suggestion, it would be to keep the front pool bar open past 6 PM. It’s such a great spot to unwind, and it would be nice to enjoy it a bit longer in the evenings. We’re already looking to book our next trip back. Secrets Akumal truly feels like our home away from home!

We stayed at Secrets Akumal for 10 nights at the start of May. We were completely blown away by the hotel, staff, food, and drinks. This was a last-minute holiday so our options on hotels were limited however we couldn’t have been happier with our choice. We have stayed in 5* hotels before however this have completely changed our opinions on what 5* luxury actually is. ALL the staff members were super friendly, helpful and was there ready to help before you even knew you needed it. Our hotel room was 9331 it was a standard room with tropical view. The room was amazing it had everything you could need and more. The bed was very comfortable with extra pillows in the wardrobe if needed. The bathroom was insane, his and hers sinks. Separate toilet and shower and a huge jacuzzi bath. The balcony was gorgeous, and the view was off tropical palm trees which was the perfect back drop for early morning reading and late-night drinks before bed. The room came equipped with streamer, scales, hair dryer, posh coffee machine, mini fridge, and TV. Our hotel concierge was called ‘Roberto’ he was excellent, very friendly, and informative he gave us tips for our day trips outside the hotel, was there to help if we needed anything more adding the room like dressing gowns, slippers, and mini fridge top ups. Roberto also kept us updated on the daily activities throughout the hotel. He couldn’t have done more for us and really made us feel welcome. The hotel has 3x pools and we enjoyed all 3 however found ourselves most days around the ‘quite pool’ which was close to toilets and bar however the staff members around the pool were amazing and took our drinks orders. We had a couples massage at the spa and would 100% recommend. Its slightly expensive but the spa facilities and treatments were amazing and we both said we would do it again because we enjoyed so much. The food throughout the hotel in every restaurant were incredible we ate at all the different restaurants throughout our stay and every meal was delicious. The restaurants are all beautifully decorated you wouldn’t know you were in a hotel. I do think its worth noting that some hotels have dress codes and for men it was full length pants. I wish I had some faults to make the review sound unbiased however we were both honestly blown away. It beat every single one of our expectations. The staff really make this hotel they are amazing! My husband and I visited Secrets Akumal for our honeymoon. We had high expectations from reading other reviews and online research and this resort exceeded these expectations! Check in was smooth and personable. Our room was spacious, clean and had great AC (the room felt cold and not humid our entire stay). Restaurants were tastefully decorated, food was excellent and very consistent - in 7 nights neither of us had a bad meal. The 3 pools provided different vibes and were all kept very clean. Activities and the evening entertainment were fun and offered nice variety. Although the seaweed was bad this year, the resort staff worked very hard to keep the beach clean and we still managed to snorkel and see stingrays, many types of fish, and turtles off the beach. However the best part of this resort was the phenomenal service - every staff member we ran into was incredibly polite, welcoming and friendly. A few staff members went above and beyond for us this week - Francisco (our poolside waiter at the main pool), Reuben (the pool concierge at the main pool), Karina (our building concierge) and Santiago (at the buffet). However every single member of the staff was incredible! You can tell how hard the staff works every day to keep this place pristine and running smoothly and this hard work shows!! Overall, this resort was clean, fun, a great vibe for honeymoon, great food, great rooms and well worth the price! We will definitely be back!

We had the most wonderful vacation a few weeks ago at our second home Secrets Akumal! Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by our friend Cesar Montoya. We were in the most amazing room in building 4 with Karen & Diana our concierge. Thank you for all you did for us during our stay! We want to Thank our longtime friend Alberto the Sommelier, Paula, Sommelier and the amazing Chef Gustavo Jose Salas for an exceptional Wine Cellar dinner experience! Also Sommelier Santos too! Oceana was our favorite restaurant this time! Thank you Manager Brando, Chef Angel, Sous Chef Francisco & Ana and of course Baltazar our server for two incredibly delicious meals! Spent a week here in May '25 and had a fantastic time, cannot recommend it highly enough. Pretty much everything was perfect, from the spacious, highly equipped and super clean room, to the 7 high standard on-site restaurants, to the 3 swimming pools, the soft sand beach complete with at lounger service, to the daytime and evening entertainment. Always something going on, always too much delicious food at your fingertips, always a cold beer or tasty cocktail available. Special mention to Karen, our concierge, and Ana who provided superb at seat service on the beach.

We’ve stayed at several all-inclusive resorts, but we always find ourselves coming back to Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya. This place has the perfect balance of luxury, relaxation, and fun. Whether you’re looking to unwind by the quiet pool or join in on high-energy activities, Akumal gives you the best of both worlds. The staff is truly what sets this resort apart. Oscar, the Assistant Manager (front desk/reception), is incredibly kind and responsive. He made sure every detail of our stay was perfect and checked in on us multiple times. His level of care and professionalism is unmatched. Maximiliano from the entertainment team is another star. His energy is contagious—he’s friendly, welcoming, and always encouraging guests to join in on the fun, especially the Crazy Games! He brings the place to life in the best way. Octavio, the entertainment supervisor, also deserves a huge shoutout for leading such an incredible team and making sure everything runs smoothly while keeping things fun and engaging. The food is consistently delicious, with a wide variety of dining options—from upscale French to casual beachside bites. You can enjoy lively themed nights or quiet, romantic dinners depending on your mood. The atmosphere is stunning—lush grounds, a beautiful swimmable beach, and a layout that offers both vibrant spots and peaceful hideaways. We’ve visited multiple times now, and it never disappoints. We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Secrets Akumal for our Honeymoon and what can we say... Truly EXCEPTIONAL! From the delicious food and drinks, and gorgeous surroundings, to the wonderful staff who truly make your stay feel extra special... This place is heavenly. It was our first time in Mexico, and it certainly won't be the last! Here are some special shoutouts! Our concierge Alexandra in block 5, was absolutely wonderful during our stay! She provided us with lots of information regarding the resort, nearby excursions and anything that we needed at all. She also arranged a special romantic breakfast in bed for us, and even had our room decorated with rose petals one evening. It was really great to have her, and she's excellent at her job! Yamili (domestic) and Cesar (room mini bar service) have to be mentioned also. Our room was cleaned impeccably and with attention to detail everyday by Yamili, thank you so much. Cesar filled our mini bar up everyday also, and when we requested some Fresca for our fridge during our stay, this was always remembered and topped up daily. Greatly appreciated. The entertainment team, including Oscar, Max, Carla, Myra, Alejandro and Isabel were brilliant! Always happy, having fun, great sense of humor and just great to be around. Again, all brilliant at their job. Thanks for making our days fun guys! Our pool concierge's, mainly Ruben and Antonio (we spent most days at the quiet pool!) were exceptional. Again, always so welcoming, friendly and made time to chat and get to know us. We would always come back from getting lunch or having a swim, and they would always have our towels changed and umbrella moved to give us shade. Above and beyond service from them both. We appreciated them so much. Noemi, Maria, Gabriella and Santiago from the Market Cafe were all lovely! Noemi always greeted us with a cheerful smile every morning, and Maria and Gabriella always showed us to our seats, again - always polite and helpful. Santiago gave us recommendations of his favorite cocktail (passionfruit mojito) and we can confirm - delicious! Ivan at the Barracuda Bar is a great guy! Super friendly, chatty, and excellent at making delicious cocktails and mocktails (for me as a non-drinker!). Was always lovely to sit on the swing seats and chat to him whilst enjoying a drink. Jesus, the waiter at The Sports Bar - excellent man! Super attentive, always smiling and lovely to chat to. Works super hard, which should be recognized! Gabby, spa lady who booked our 2 hydrotherapy and treatment sessions, was lovely and helpful, as were all the spa staff including Reyna who led our hydrotherapy, and Michelle who provided my wonderful Lumi massage! Super relaxing. Whilst we were waiting in The Lobby Bar for our transfer to the airport on our last day, Santiago the bar man, noticed that I was exceptionally warm due to the humidity that day. He offered to cool a hand towel from the bathroom for me, in some ice water, to help cool me down. This was exceptionally kind and attentive, and was hugely appreciated! Thank you Santiago! And a thank you, to the gardeners. They do an incredible job at maintaining the grounds of the resort, making it a lovely place to be. We saw them out working at almost 11pm at night... Truly such hardworking people. Well done. We ate at most restaurants, and cannot fault the food at all. The BBQ's and cook-out's with the entertainment on the pool was always really nice too. We cannot fault our stay at all, and although we have been home in Scotland for a week now, we are still talking about our honeymoon every single day, and wishing we were back!!! I can’t say enough nice things about this beautiful and clean resort. Worth every dollar spent! It is big but not so big we felt like we were walking a mile everyday like at other resorts. It never felt crowded despite the number of people there. We were in a 1st floor room with a swim out pool and patio. Room itself is very spacious and the bathroom with large shower and small pool for a bathtub is amazing. The hundreds of staff it takes to run his place daily are saints that probably don’t get paid well enough for their above and beyond service, attention to detail, and friendliness! Our concierge Gina in building 4 made us feel like she was there just for us! Truly! The dozens of wait staff and bartenders around the pool areas and beach were quick, provided anything we asked for, and mixed up drinks with plenty of alcohol. (Please tip all of the above despite the money you spend to stay there bc I have a feeling they don’t get paid well enough 🫤). The wide selection of restaurants and pool side eateries was overwhelming - everything we ate was phenomenal. Highly recommend the Market Cafe for breakfast/lunch - large buffet loaded with everything you can imagine, both precooked and as requested! Both the day and night entertainment were amazing! We went on the Sea Turtle Excursion with Oscar and Mayra - informative and we could tell they truly wanted to us to have a good and safe adventure. Very cool to see the turtles so close you could touch them. Also saw 2 stingrays sitting on the bottom and a bit of coral reef. The only unfortunate thing I can name is the sea weed problem, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the resort itself - It’s on all of the beaches up and down the Riviera Maya. We aren’t really beach people, prefer the pool, so it didn’t bother us a bit. So bottom line, don’t hesitate to spend your hard earned and well deserved vacation at this lovely resort.

Overall this is an amazing resort with amazing staff Jesus around the pool was by far the best we encountered. Especially as we noticed that some staff ignored you in favour of big tippers he was a standout treating every one with the same attention. The rooms are lovely with really comfortable beds rainfall showers and private balcony’s on upper floors (ground floors all have swim out pools which we didn’t have) although if you are situated near entertainment areas don’t try to go to bed early we also realised how thin the walls are when the couple on there honeymoon moved in next door There are a variety of restaurants our favourite was Himitsu Asian restaurant where we were well looked after by Daniel the food was really good and great variety Breakfast and lunch in market cafe (buffet) had amazing variety of food and great cooking stations staff Monserrat, Edmondo and Santiago were lovely The Entertainment team were extremely friendly getting people involved in a variety of activities and having so much fun with everyone particularly Arantxat Daniel and (sexy) Oscar The Lobby bar is a little small especially when used for silent disco and the wait staff was extremely inconsistent as to wether we were served at the table or had to go to bar however this was redeemed by the lovely Diane and Fred behind the bar who did small things ( like make sure a can of Coke Zero was at hand) that gave a great impression to make our experience memorable. There are 3 pools nearest to sea is the entertainment pool the music comes on at 8am and is really loud and heavy base this is left playing all day even when other music is playing which can become overwhelming especially if you are neurodiverse. Even the pool they term ‘quiet’ still plays music. Like I said overall this is an amazing resort and any issues are sorted really quickly if you want something you just have to ask however there is no need to ring every day to ask if you want turndown service if do not disturb is off yes we do if it’s on and we missed it no problem if you want room service do not ring room 8303 😜

First of all this place is amazing. My husband and I got married here with only the two of us. We had a swim out suite, non-preferred. It was wonderful. No issue with cold water or mosquitoes. We used it often and enjoyed room service breakfast there several times. The check in process was enjoyable. They provided the cold towels and champagne while we sat in a lovely area and checked in. We arrived early, and they were able to get us into our room with no wait. Our building concierge was Luis and he was so thoughtful. He sent out a text to us daily showing the day’s activities and helped us with reservations. The room was great. I loved the shower and the little cubby in the wall for your room service orders left in if you can’t/don’t want to get to the door. The food was very good. The breakfast buffet at Market Cafe was out of this world. The hibachi show was wonderful. Our favorite server was Gil! The entertainment at this resort is so good. We enjoyed the shows every night with the exception of one, and we regretted that! Javi, Carolina and all of the entertainment staff was so much fun! We truly enjoyed it. Don’t miss the resort bike tour! It was a blast. Almost 5 miles round trip, but don’t let that scare you. It was an easy pace with breaks in some really cool areas. As avid bicycle riders, this was one of our favorite activities. Snorkling at the preserve down the beach was very good. We booked off the beach with Victor and had a great tour. Our guide even held my go pro to handle pics and videos so I could enjoy the snorkling. We did a fishing trip with Johnny in the Bass Pro hat on the beach. It was affordable and we caught 3 Mahi so quickly. We cut our trip short due to sea sickness but had we stayed out longer, I know it would have been a great day for fishing! We spent a lot of time at the swim up bar. Had a blast. We loved the fruit cart and ice cream cart! Some days they had a specialty drink, my favorite was the passion fruit daiquiris! Don’t miss the Tuna Show! It was so cool. Get there about 15-30 min before it starts to get a seat! This place is just amazing. As far as our wedding, Williams Alcudia was our coordinator. I was so happy with him. He was so kind. He was very on top of everything. It seemed to me that he truly enjoys what he does and that shows. The wedding was a beautiful ceremony on the beach. I had my hair and makeup done with Reyna in the spa and she did a wonderful job in making me feel beautiful on my wedding day. We opted for the Romantic Dinner on the beach afterwards and our server Ricardo, that evening was great. One of the best parts of dinner was a gentleman walking from the beach and singing to us and playing guitar. He didn’t work for the resort or anything and it was just wonderful. We used the resort photographer for pictures and they were wonderful as well. This place is incredible. There is nothing they haven’t thought of. You will not be disappointed!

Due to excessive noise in building 8 (room at elevator and stairs) we requested a room change on day 4 of our stay. The staff responded quickly and moved us to a room in bldg 9a. This was a much quieter location. The speedy response and resolution was appreciated. I fell ill during the second half of our trip. Luis made sure I had electrolytes and checked in on me. We were celebrating our honeymoon. Luis decorated the room with balloons and a kind note. The entertainment offerings- live music, fire shows, blackjack, guacamole class, and disco - were an absolute blast!! There’s tons of activities available at the resort. Alejandro’s outgoing personality, wit, and warmth ensured a good time was had by all. The restaurant meals were excellent. The servers were fantastic. Arturo made us a glorious Mayan coffee at Bordeaux. I had a body scrub, wrap and massage with Miley in the spa and it was a 10/10. The spa is beautiful. That’s the best massage experience I’ve ever had.

We have stayed at The Vine, Los Cabos, Maroma, Excellence RM, and Le Blanc, and we found the service better here than anywhere we have ever been. My wife and I stayed a week in the Presidential Suite (2302) and loved every minute. The room is great, with the corner location giving views of both the pool side and the ocean/beach. Our concierge, Metz, really elevated the stay. She arranged a Bali bed each day, kept us up to date on all scheduled events, made reservations for teppanyaki and ensured we had great tables for the night events like Asado (fire show) and Akumal (art and food), brought snorkeling equipment to us at the Bali bed, and generally looked for little things to do every day to elevate our stay. She and the housekeeper, Yaqueline, both left cards and gifts in the room for our anniversary, and they really helped make the trip the best we've ever been on. The grounds are very nice, if more spread out than somewhere like The Vine or Le Blanc, but the walks to restaurants and activities are nice. There was sargassum in the water, but at least five or six men out raking and clearing every day. We did the bike ride with Lizbeth and Daniel and it was a nice way to get off the resort and explore a little bit. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the fire show and the "Voice Akumal" singing competition among guests. We spent time at both the main pool and the beach (Bali beds), and want to give special call-outs to Agustin at the pool and Alejandro at the beach. These are a couple of the nicest, hardest-working people we've ever met at any resort, really trying to anticipate guests' needs and make it happen before you even have to ask. Along with Efren, the Bali bed waiter, they helped to make the trip perfect. There are lots of places with nice views and comfortable rooms, but the attitudes of staff members and service-orientation can really elevate a trip. Of all the places we have stayed, Secrets Akumal's staff seemed to have the most consistent commitment to customer service that we have experienced. Everyone was friendly and genuinely wanted to help. We will absolutely be back.

My wife and I took a quick 4 night trip for our anniversary to Akumal this past weekend. The resort is beautiful and service is definitely top notch. We arrived (intentionally) early on Saturday and while our room wasn't ready until 4pm we were able to use the amenities of the resort and had packed appropriately to ensure we could start our vacation when we arrived since we were only going to be there a couple of days. We started our first full day with a snorkel tour from the resort entertainment staff and Max took my wife and I out and showed us the reef and turtles. It was a GREAT experience but even more so started our relationship with Max who ensured we had a great vacation the rest of the time we were there. We were even able to sneak away for a paddleboard tour after we were unable to secure reservations on the app. He truly went above and beyond to make sure we were able to fit in all we wanted in our short stay but even better was getting to know him as a person. I thought the food was on par with other all inclusives that we have traveled to (Excellence, other Secrets, Haven) but I did find myself wishing that preferred status was able to make reservations like you can at other branded all-inclusives. This only ended up causing us a wait once during our stay so by no means was it anything that would prevent me from returning. I found that the food between the main pools for lunch each day was good as well as the food you could order for lunch by the pools. The breakfast buffet was also great. I am not able to comment on the nightly entertainment as we chose to sleep long hours at night while being kid free for a few days but we did catch a glimpse of the decades show and what we saw was good. Our room was really conducive to privacy and sleep which is exactly what we were looking for on the trip. Housekeeping/Wet bar staff were fantastic. The concierge team was very nice and did decorate our room for our anniversary which was a really nice thing to do and appreciated. Each preferred building has one concierge contact who is in charge of the whole building. Again, I do wish they would be able to make reservations (they will for the preferred only restaurant and the teppanyaki table) at each restaurant but they are very attentive, friendly, and help to give you a good experience. The spa was fantastic including both the hydrotherapy session and massages that we received. I cannot say enough good about our spa experience. It is a beautiful place and I loved that the hydrotherapy was outdoors! We will definitely return to this beautiful resort sometime and will highly recommend it to our friends and family!

My partner and I just returned from a week at secrets akumal. We were blown away by the service and hospitality of the resort! We booked preferred and were in building 3. Our concierge Gerardo and Diana were so helpful in making sure we had everything we need and did so much to make us happy. When my partner fell ill Gerardo was extremely helpful and checked on us, which we really appreciated! Daniel and Oscar from the entertainment team were great, and very professional and hard working. All the servers at the restaurants were great as well. We loved the breakfast buffet, especially the omelet bar, bloody Mary bar, and all the fresh juices. Himitsu and portofino were me favorite restaurants for dinner, but seaside was also great. Lunch at the barefoot grill and seaside were always amazing! The hotdog at barefoot was fantastic! We enjoyed the preferred lounge and the snacks. Our favorite aspect of the resort was the quiet pool, I feel that is what makes this resort stand out from others. I love having the option of a quiet, relaxing pool. The other two pools are more upbeat and have activities, but we loved just relaxing in peace. The quiet pool is actually the reason we want to book this resort again over other secrets. Snorkeling off the beach was a lot of fun. We brought our own snorkels but rented life jackets since we are not strong swimmers. We saw some beautiful fish and had a lot of fun! We enjoyed the art with me activity and painting the turtles, so nice to make our own keepsakes. The bike tour was a hit as well, dropping at half Moon Bay was the highlight for me. We are looking forward to book again next year!

This resort is incredible. They really take great care of you. Once you arrive, you enter into a jungle paradise teeming with wildlife that leads to beautiful pools and of course, a pristine beach. The snorkeling is what drew us to the property as the sea turtle sanctuary, Akumal Bay, is right next door. The rooms are well-appointed and the ocean view suite with a plunge pool/jacuzzi was fabulous. Service is top-notch and I highly recommend upgrading to preferred mainly because it gives you access to the lounge that was lovely during our hot July stay. All of the restaurants were delicious. Thank you to our concierge Anel Michel Sánchez & José Mejia! We will be back.

The staffs attention to detail, they over the top responsive, the resort was always clean, and the food was excellent. We in particular had alot of contact with Annie, Ana, and Antonio. They were some fo the nicest people we ever met. Annie made our anniversary special, Ana waited on us and got us anything we needed and remembered things that we liked. Antinio worked by the pool he was constantly checking on us making sure we didnt need anything. They always did with a smile on their faces. Just a wonderful expeirence, so good we will be book soon to return.

I was recently at Secrets Akumal to celebrate my husband 60th birthday. The resorts is very very nice. The pools, gym, Spa and Landscaping was top notch. The staff was wonderful. I love the turn down service every night! Karie our Concierge was great. She will make reservations, send you daily schedule of activities and anything else you need. The entertainment team was amazing!! The following ET was amazing: Isabel, Ixchel, Octavio, Oscar and Andrea!! The pool staff was great especially Oscar. Favorite server/ bartenders Jafet, Ana , Ricardo and Mario. Breakfast buffet was really good. Staff that was amazing are: Giovanni and Raymundo. Our recent stay at Secrets Akumal was truly outstanding, made unforgettable by the amazing team who took care of every detail to make us feel special. From the start, Sylvester at El Patio greeted us with such warmth on our first night, making us instantly feel “at home”. The food was excellent in all the restaurants we particularly liked Bordeaux, El Patio and the Greek Restaurant. Alberto at the Seafood Grill for lunch was amazing, went above and beyond, was always ready with our favourite white wine and a special selection of seafood. Carlos at the Wine Cellar provided us with an evening we’ll never forget, sharing his passion and expertise for wine in a wonderful setting, the food was also impeccable. We spent most days at pool 2 which is the quiet pool. Rubin, the pool concierge, was simply exceptional—not only did he ensure our umbrella shade was just right all day, but he also went the extra mile, even polishing our sunglasses so we could enjoy the sun in perfect comfort. The bar service was attentive with Moses making the drinks and Ana, Francisco and the team ensuring our glasses were never empty. Make sure you go on a Turtle snorkelling tour in the bay, speak to Victor, you can find him on the beach, and he can organise a group or a private tour, our guide Jose managed to find lots of Turtles including a family of three. If you are staying at Secrets Akumal a tip would be to do the 9 am swim before the bus tours arrive at 10 am. Secrets Akumal stands out not just for its gorgeous setting, but for a team that redefines hospitality. The staff have a vocation to make your stay truly magical. We can’t wait to return and see them all again.

My wife and I were at Secrets Akumal last week and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff was friendly and eager to please. We were there celebrating my 60th birthday and they made it extra special. Our concierge Karime, who was superb, planned various surprises to help us celebrate. The entertainment team also went above and beyond for the celebration, especially Octavio, Ixchel, Isabel and Andrea. We also did a bicycle tour with Oscar and Lisbeth (they are on the entertainment team as well). They were fantastic guides and made the tour interesting and informative. I also want to mention that the service at the pool area was outstanding. Ana was our favorite server; she is friendly and gracious. Our favorite bartenders were Ricardo and Mario (at the Barefoot Grill bar) and Jafet (at the Sugar Reef bar). We looked forward to breakfast every morning, not just for the delicious food, but also for the friendly greetings and interactions with the people working there, especially our three favorite hostesses Michelle, Isabella and Montserrat and our favorite waiters Giovanni and Raymundo. If you are planning to visit an Adults Only All Inclusive resort, I highly recommend Secrets Akumal!

Carved out of the jungle, this resort is covered in lush tropical vegetation! It’s exactly what we pictured a tropical vacation resort should look like. Three amazing pools each was a different vibe. The infinity pool for the party by the beach, the main pool with nice background music and servers that see to all your needs, and a quiet pool, which also has a hidden bar off to the side. The staff is absolutely amazing at every level. They bend over backwards to anticipate and see to your every need. Jose and Anne were our concierges, and they were the sweetest, most helpful people! Luis at the pool will take care of you for sure! Definitely go snorkeling on the sea turtle excursion. Right off the beach, not too deep, and you will see amazing turtles in their natural habitat! The preferred club was amazing. There’s a private room with heavy hors d’oeuvres air conditioning, and premium liquor. A great way to beat the heat. The spa was calm and tranquil. The hydotherapy was amazing. Get a massage, and ask for Neli or Norma, they were top notch . There are many restaurants, and they are all wonderful. The service, care, and attention to detail cannot be beat. If you want to be pampered and taking care of in a beautiful environment, this is the place to go. We will be back!

We stayed at secrets Akumal for 4 nights this past week. Going into this resort; I read so many reviews saying how great this resort it and how it doesn’t compare to any other all inclusive resort. While we really enjoyed our stay, I can’t say that we are dying to go back. In July, it is obviously very hot. I wasn’t expecting almost the entire resort to be open air. We felt like almost all of the bars were outside, where a lot of the events were held. I felt bad for my boyfriend who had to be in long pants the entire time as it was definitely muggy and hot. I wish they closed the inside off and had some air conditioning for some relief. We also weren’t a huge fan of the food. As a foodie, things were decent but again it was really nothing that I would rave about. Bourdeux was definitely our least favorite. We honestly did not enjoy our meal there at all. The cheese board was not great, and our meals were just average. The Italian restaurant, hibachi and seaside dinner were much better. There was also a ton of pushing to get a time share and to go to a presentation. This is the only all inclusive resort I’ve been to where the staff is super pushy towards getting you to go to a presentation. We were just trying to enjoy our stay and multiple time got stuck in conversations where we would say we weren’t interested and that wasn’t enough of an answer. With all of that being said, we still did enjoy our stay. I think after reading all of these excellent reviews, I kind of hyped it up beforehand in my head and it didn’t really live up to the expectations I had set. We went for a birthday trip (mine and my boyfriends). And I will say they all did a great job of celebrating it the entire time we were there. At restaurants, the breakfast buffet; in our cabana, everywhere. And we only told the staff once at our check in. We would return to the resort as it was very clean, the rooms were great (the AC in the room was great and worked very well), and of course all of the staff went above and beyond for us. Our concierge in building 8 karmine, was great. I talked to her often on what’s app. Always answered with a quick reply and was very helpful. Diego at portofino was a fantastic waiter. So personable and friendly. We really enjoyed having him as our waiter. We saw Dannie at rendezvous several nights and every night she was great. Very attentive. Jose at the main pool was fabulous every day we were there making sure our umbrella was always in the shade if we wanted it. Augustin and Henry were also great. Henry was constantly coming over asking if we were good and needed anything else, and when we rented our cabana for the day, augustin was there to set it up and change out our towels and sheets after it rained. Maracio at the seaside dinner was also great. So enthusiastic and really worked hard. Fernando at himitusi at the hibachi table was fantastic. So much fun and a great waiter. Our favorite show was probably the Mexican folklore show. We loved doing beach volleyball each day. Max on the entertainment team was fantastic and did a great job of getting people involved.

We stayed at Secrets Akumal from Sunday, July 20 – Thursday, July 24, and had a fantastic time. As many others have said, what makes this resort so memorable is the genuine warmth and hospitality of the staff. We had a quick check-in and immediately went to lunch at Seaside, where the charming and friendly Baltazar, treated us to fish tacos and what my husband said was the best burger he has ever had. He talked about that hamburger all week. The fish tacos were tasty, too. We arrived at Room 9431 and commented that the view was not a partial ocean view as advertised. The bellman immediately contacted the front desk manager, Nestor, who came to the room within 5 minutes. The partial ocean view is obscured by lush trees, so it’s not a bad view, but you couldn’t see anything that made you think you were even facing the ocean (or the pools). Because we had paid for a partial ocean view and not a tropical view, we asked for some kind of compensation and received a Preferred Club Bali bed for a day. Nestor told us to go about our day and he would bring the documents we needed to sign to us instead of us waiting on him. The Bali bed was a suitable exchange, and we enjoyed it very much. It's hard to go back to lounge chairs after that. The room was clean, well-maintained, and the air conditioning worked well. Housekeeping and Turn Down Service were wonderful. The drive from the Cancun airport to the resort was right at one hour on Sunday and Thursday. Others had mentioned traffic could be bad, but we didn’t experience that. We also didn’t have any issues from sargassum. The beach was clean and beautiful! The infinity pool was mild and refreshing. The other guests were younger than when we stayed at Maroma, with most being in their 30s and 40s (we’re in our 60s) and they were rowdier that at Maroma, but in a good way, having fun, laughing, making the pool area fun. Our pool concierge at the infinity pool, Jose, was friendly, attentive and checked in on us frequently, and our pool waiter Felipe kept us in bottled water, ice, cocktails, coconut water, and fresh fruit. We loved the Chef’s Table experience at Patio. The chefs were friendly and prepared a fantastic six-course dinner (not our usual TexMex) and our server, Roberto, was very knowledgeable about each dish and its origins. Also outstanding was the hostess at Patio, Adelina. Our UVC contacts, William and Mauricio, were in daily contact before we arrived and up until our last day, offering recommendations for fun things to do and different dining options. Our favorite restaurant was Santorini – reserved for UVC and PC guests. Superb Greek food, and our server Julio was very helpful. I loved the Branzino. Our concierge, Leidy, sent a text every morning with all of the activities available for the day, arranged our couples massage at the Spa, made dinner reservations at Santorini for us, and arranged for a bellman to collect our bags upon departure. She, along with every other staff member that we asked for directions escorted us to our destination instead of just pointing in the general direction. You will get lost every day, but the resort is beautiful with a lush canopy of trees and vines, flowers and tropical plants, so that’s a fair trade-off for getting lost. And again, the staff is phenomenal. We are returning in January to swim with the turtles!

We arrived early on a Saturday around 10 AM and was escorted to the Preferred lounge, where we were quickly registered, offered a welcome drink, and enjoyed some snacks. We were informed we could use all the amenities of the resort before a room was ready which we did but was pleasantly surprised that we were able to get our room by 2pm. Our concierge, Ricardo from Building 5 was exceptional he ensured we had everything we needed, and maintained regular contact throughout our stay, providing helpful information on daily activities. His attentiveness and daily communication in the What’sApp made our stay stress free. The resort's pools are stunning, featuring two quiet pools and one more lively pool with daily activities. We chose to relax at the quieter pools, where Antonio provided outstanding service. He consistently ensured we had prime shaded spots and checked in regularly to make sure we were comfortable, had dry pool towels and his warm personality truly enhanced our experience and sincere communication remembering us by our last name even! Francisco, our pool side cocktail waiter, was fantastic!! He kept our drinks flowing and food coming, always attentive without being intrusive. His excellent service made our poolside a pleasure throughout the day and he sure gets his daily step in. For daytime entertainment, we highly recommend meeting Max. He introduced himself on our first day and offered a variety of activities, from dancing lessons to volleyball. Even when we didn't participate, Max made a point to visit us regularly, engaging with a personable conversation with us and creating a lively, fun atmosphere. We even took a salsa making class with Liz who was so informative and engaging to the audience. Overall, our stay at Secrets Akumal was perfect, thanks to the attentive staff, beautiful surroundings, and excellent amenities. This was our 6th visit to Secrets Akumal, and once again, the resort delivered a fantastic experience. The **rooms and room service are consistently excellent**—spotless, well-maintained, and always in great shape. We stayed in the Preferred Club building 3, which offers a prime location with easy access to everything the resort has to offer. **Special shout-out to our concierge, Diana (or possibly Annie—apologies!)**, who was a standout during our trip. She greeted us warmly every morning and was incredibly accommodating, even arranging transportation for all 9 of us to Tulum without a hitch. Her professionalism and warmth made us feel truly welcome. **Dining ranged from fair to excellent.** Portofino stood out with unanimous praise from our group—every appetizer and main course was a hit. Teppanyaki offered a reliably fun and tasty experience with high-quality food and entertaining chefs. Oceana was good overall, though we had a couple of overcooked mahi filets. That said, they redeemed themselves with an incredible Thursday sushi demonstration featuring a fresh bluefin tuna flown in from Baja—yes, including toro! The presentation, the sauces, the freshness… it was a unique treat. Pro tip: show up a bit early to get a good seat. **Market Café** is always a breakfast favorite for its endless variety and fresh options. The only culinary letdown was the new Greek concept, Santorini. It’s a pop-up-style, outdoor-only setup utilizing the Market Café’s patio space. Between the tough dolma leaves, lackluster flaming cheese (what’s usually saganaki), and the odd musical choice of Gatsby-style dancing during a Greek-themed show, it just didn’t click for us—especially in the heavy July humidity. **At the pool, Sharon was nothing short of amazing.** She kept the drinks flowing, anticipated our needs before we asked, and made us feel like VIPs all day long. Her energy, warmth, and professionalism elevated our entire experience. She’s the kind of person who makes you want to come back. **Entertainment was top-notch, as always. Ixchiel deserves special recognition—her energy is contagious!** She was everywhere at once, recruiting guests to join in games, fitness, dancing, and more. Her passion for creating fun was evident and appreciated by everyone in our group. **Rendezvous Lounge and Desire Lounge disco nights were also a blast, especially the silent disco—which turned out to be one of the most fun nights of the trip.** The **grounds are immaculate**, truly the best-maintained of any Secrets resort we’ve visited. It’s impressive how well the lush tropical environment is preserved—every corner is bursting with vibrant flora and unique fauna, including coatis, agoutis, raccoons, and a whole family of chachalacas. Bird watchers will love it. The **bay at Akumal is usually stunning, especially in winter months.** July can be hit or miss with sargassum, and unfortunately, this trip brought the worst we’ve seen it. Still, Akumal was in much better shape compared to Tulum, Cancun, or Playa del Carmen. Tulum in particular was dealing with thick brown water and a very unpleasant smell—it looked more like Yoohoo than the turquoise Caribbean. Just something to be aware of if visiting during peak summer months. All in all, another fantastic stay at Secrets Akumal. The people—from concierge to pool staff to entertainment—are what truly set this resort apart. Looking forward to visit #7!

The entire resort feels like a hidden oasis. It’s incredibly private and peaceful, tucked into what feels like a tropical jungle paradise. William and Mauricio from UVC were amazing very cordial and helpful at all times but unfortunately I can’t say the same for the rest of the people we met. The entertainment team (Oscar, e Ixche) made the activities so much fun and they’re also always willing to help you out and make sure you have a fun time. Gerardo our concierge was great as well. Overall, if we haven’t had that hiccup with UVC my review wouldn’t be as bad.

We have just returned from Secrets Akumal and it honestly felt like we had stepped into a little pocket of paradise. The food was incredible everywhere, but the standouts for us were the French restaurant, which felt like a love letter from Paris, the Japanese, which was as beautiful to look at as it was to eat, the stone baked pizza with its perfect crisp crust, the BBQ by the pool that filled the air with that irresistible smoky smell, and breakfast at the Market Café which was the best start to the day every day. The staff made our stay unforgettable. Karen, our concierge in Block 4, seemed to know what we needed before we did. Ruben, our pool concierge, was a star, not only keeping us topped up with everything we needed but also giving us his daily “breakfast report” which became one of our favourite moments of the day. And Sharon, our pool waitress, always remembered my mocktail order to perfection and brought it over with a smile that made the whole poolside feel even sunnier. The resort is surrounded by wildlife that makes you truly feel as though you have been dropped right into the heart of the jungle. From tropical birds to curious iguanas and the sound of nature all around, it added another layer of magic to the experience. Our room was pure comfort, with loads of space and storage, a bed that felt like a cloud, luxury toiletries, and everything we could possibly need. We even made great use of the gym, which was well equipped and perfect for balancing out all that amazing holiday food. It is the kind of place where the food, the people, the surroundings, and the little touches all add up to memories you want to keep forever. We are already planning our return.

We had a fantastic time at the resort! It was nice to have the option to spend the day at the "quieter" pool! We absolutely LOVED the staff and felt very cared for by Jose the pool concierge always making sure our umbrellas were placed in the correct place to make shade as well as cleaning our sunglasses each day! At the pool we were served amazing poolside drinks and food by Ricardo who quickly learned our names and our favorite drink orders. We were beyond pleased with his service to us! Alexandra was our building concierge and she also learned our names and continually checked in on us everyday. She also set up our honeymoon suite with special gifts despite us not telling the hotel originally upon booking that it was our honeymoon! She made us feel very special and celebrated. The staff is what made this experience special and I would definitely return to hopefully see them again! We enjoyed snorkeling and saw amazing fish despite not booking a formal tour. The food and restaurant service was incredible and we would highly recommend the Asian restaurant, Himitsu and the chicken sushi! Overall great experience!

What a great guy! We spent three days of our vacation at pool 2 and primarily due to Jose! He cleaned sun glasses, very conversational, refreshed towels. Plus the wait staff was amazing. If you’re thinking about it… DO THE BIKE TOUR. 10 out of 10. Max and Isabel did the tour and it was the best time. There was multiple stops at a private beach area and again at a fish sanctuary. This was our second trip to Secrets Akumal, and we absolutely love this resort. The staff is amazing, always friendly and attentive, and the food continues to be delicious with a wide variety of options. Each time we’ve stayed, we’ve booked a swim-out room, which we highly recommend. On our first visit, our room was near the quiet pool. It was incredibly peaceful—we especially enjoyed floating in our swim-out while listening to the relaxing zen music in the background. Our second visit was in August 2025, and we stayed in Building 4. We loved the room’s location—just steps from the Preferred Club lounge and very close to the beach, which made everything super convenient. However, there were a few drawbacks this time around: • Our swim-out room was at the end of the building, which meant the walkway path was directly next to our pool. Unfortunately, this meant we had no privacy while trying to relax in our swim-out. It would be great if the resort added a privacy screen or shade to these end units to help make the space more enjoyable. • In the evenings, raccoons frequently gathered around our swim-out, making it difficult to enjoy the area after dark. While we understand wildlife is part of the experience in such a natural setting, some form of control or deterrent would really improve evening enjoyment for guests in this area. • Our room was also near the smoking area, which we didn’t mind at all—my husband enjoys cigars. However, the designated smoking spot had no shade during the midday sun and only two seats available. For such a large resort, it would be a thoughtful improvement to add more shaded, comfortable smoking areas throughout the property. There are plenty of cozy non-smoking spots that often go unused; just one or two similar spaces for smokers to relax with a drink and cigar would be appreciated. Lastly, we noticed that vaping was allowed in areas like the main pool, bar, and beach, and staff didn’t ask those guests to move to the designated smoking area. This felt a bit unfair, considering other smokers were asked to use specific areas. Consistency in policy enforcement would go a long way in ensuring all guests feel treated equally. Overall, we still love Secrets Akumal and will likely return again. The atmosphere, service, and location keep bringing us back. We just hope the resort considers a few of these suggestions to make the experience even better for all types of guests.

The day we arrived it was a full moon…even though it may look like the sun it was the moon. We enjoyed several snorkeling adventures where we saw turtles and lots of fish! A very hot tour of Mayan ruins and a refreshing dip in a Cenote (an underground cave). Our Concierge Ricardo Gonzalez was amazing...everyday he kept us informed with what was happening as well spent time with us just to chat about our experiences during the day and what he could do to make 'tomorrow' memorable. I appreciated that our UVC representative Mauricio was in contact with us daily letting us know any special events that were occurring and assisting us in our excursions. I had the opportunity to talk to him the week before our trip so meeting him closed the loop and made it more personal. The resort made our anniversary very special with rose petals and an amazing dinner in their Wine cellar room…the Head Sommelier Alberto did an amazing job in setting up our dinner with a tequila tasting...we enjoyed hearing the history of tequila as well as his career around what made him a Sommelier - all with funny stories. Absolutely made the experience - not just a dinner, but an experience. We enjoyed a bike tour of Akumal from the resort - they provided the bikes and helmets as well as some stops along the way at 2 parks with some historic insight. overall, we would give this an 11 out of 10 - we went into the experience with high hopes, and they were exceeded every step of the way...will absolutely visit this resort again.

This is the most amazing place! The service is unreal. I highly recommend cancelling all other plans you have in the future and come here!!!!!

We are regular clients of the Secrets chain, and this resort was definitely one of the best Secrets resorts we’ve visited! The check-in process was fast and efficient, same goes for the checkout. The resort is pretty much set in the jungle, which is very lush and gorgeous, and the grounds are impeccably maintained. Not the most walkable beach (not a super long stretch + a few corals) but the ocean/waters are calm and clear (we lucked out; no sargassum for the last 4 days of our stay). A lot of people seemed to enjoy snorkelling in the area. Our room was well kept/very clean, the food and drinks were delicious (breakfast buffet is outstanding and our favourite resto was the French: best French resto of all Secrets resorts we’ve visited!). The quality of client service is truly exceptional; staff members were really attentive to our needs and made sure to acknowledge/celebrate our 8-yr anniversary with the nicest touches. A special thank you to the 3 concierges who took care of us in building 9A (Luis, Fernando and Gerardo; you guys were amazing!), to Antonio (our wonderful pool concierge), to Maria at Coco Café for the best iced latte, to Monserrat and Isabella at Market Café (always greeting us in the morning with their beautiful smiles), and to Raphael (hopefully, I’m spelling his name right), our waiter at Bordeaux. We would also like to acknowledge the great work of the staff members responsible for cleaning the beach on days sargassum was more prominent; they really contributed in making the surroundings/beach experience more enjoyable to the guests. If you were considering visiting this resort, don’t hesitate; Secrets Akumal truly lives up to its great reputation!

As a point of comparison for anyone looking into this resort for the first time, I stayed at Secrets Cap Cana in DR and was underwhelmed with the food and service compared to SA! I will definitely be back to secrets Akumal!

Secrets Akumal is beautiful and has incredibly helpful and friendly staff who provide excellent service. In particular, we would love to thank Alejandro - preferred club beach attendant; Jose - seaside grill server; Alexa - seaside grill hostess; Henry - preferred club server; and Jhovanna - night Manager on Duty. One thing to note is that the non-preferred club beach area is next to the main pool that plays music throughout the day. If you’re looking for a quieter beach experience, would suggest the preferred club section, which is a bit further from the pool with music. Overall, Secrets Akumal was a great experience with clean rooms and very kind, helpful staff. We will return!

We spent 5 wonderful days at this resort. This is our second time visiting Secrets Akumal. We have visited several Secrets resorts and this is the only one we’ve gone to twice, if that says anything about this resort. The service was unbelieveable. Rueben at the pool and Julio at the beach were top tier for service. The beach service was a bit faster, but never had to wait long for a drink. I’m used to weak drinks and tend to drink them fast. Well I learned quickly that the drinks here are strong 😂 The Greek restaurant was SO good and the entertainment was a touch of perfection. We snorkled right of the beach and we were able to several fish and a small stingray. Two years ago when we snorkled off the beach we saw several turtles. Now you have to spend $50 pp to take a tour and go with a guide to see turtles which was disappointing. I don’t want to spend more money. (This is my only negative about the resort) Highlights of this resort include - wonderful service - respectful guests - amazing food - smiles on all the staff faces - lush tropical resort - swimable beach - fun entertainment - snack carts that go around the pool all day - oven made pizza by the pool If you can, BOOK this resort. It was so amazing.

I’ll start this review by saying that I’ve been to quite a few all inclusive resorts ranging in size and rating and I also haven’t written a review in a long time but this resort is amazing and felt it would be nice to give them and a few of their employees kind words. I’ll try to break the review in sections. Note: I booked through Apple Vacations. Airport Transfer to restort: We went straight to the Amstar Reps after landing and only had to wait about 20 minutes to get an air conditioned van that took about an hour to get to Akumal. The time it took to get to the resort certainly didn’t bother us but it may for some. Check-in: I booked a room with preferred status so we were taken directly to the preferred lounge. As soon as we were greeted, we were asked to sit in a seat and were given a rundown about the resort. Teresa was great and knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions we had. She did try to have us attend a breakfast that is actually the timeshare presentation which we originally agreed to but later declined. I’m not sure if all rooms are like this but our room key was actually an app called “Mobile Access” on iPhones. I’m sure you can ask for a keycard but we always have our phones so this was kind of nice. We arrived early and had to wait for about 2 hours to get access to our room but we had a great lunch at Seaside Grill. I only wish that they would have told us about the outdoor seafood barbecue they have on Saturdays. Unfortunately we missed that but had seen it on YouTube reviews. Once the room was ready and went the our new home for the week. Our luggage showed up only minutes later. The room: We were in building 5 which we ended up being very happy about. It’s centrally located so it’s close to everything. There’s a huge whirlpool that separates the bed/living area and there’s also a very large tub on the balcony (no jets) that’s also very relaxing and fills up really fast. I’ll mention that there’s a knob on the wall that when turned, plays spa-like music when turned on at certain times of the day. The shower was great with a rainfall shower head. The preferred rooms have a brand of shampoos, conditioners, lotions by “Le Labo” and they are SO nice so do not bother bringing any soaps or lotions from home. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. All in all, the room was spectacular. The ONLY thing that would be nice is if they added a washlet toilet seat but that’s only because we have them at home and once you use them, you’re completely spoiled. If you know, you know. The bars/drinks: I do not drink at all but my girlfriend does. I wouldn’t be able to give a fair assessment of the bars or drinks but from what she told me, everything was delicious. I will say that being sober, the resort definitely caters to non-drinkers as well. They were able to make me amazing mocktails and offer Heineken 0.0 and even went as far as to stock my minibar with it. The only thing I thought was odd was that the sports bar was located by the relaxing pool. Restaurants/food: I CANNOT say enough good things about the food/snacks that are offered. Since we were preffered club we also had a Greek option which was at the Market Restaurant but we chose not to eat there. It’s very nice that no reservations are needed except for Hibachi. It just adds another level of relaxation to not have to set a time when you eat. I’m quite the foody and can be pretty particular and this place is wonderful. We only went to the Market Restaurant for the breakfast buffet even though we had access to a la carte at the Seaside Grill. There’s just so many options at the buffet. Everything was fresh and tasty. They had the omelette station with tons of veggies/cheese. The fruit was fresh, sliced meats and cheeses were fresh, and had salad options as well. Too many good things to focus on here but if you never tried them, look for the wine marinated figs. Phenomenal. Lunch at the Market is absolutely stunning. You can even have a steak grilled right in front of you. They have everything from Mexican street corn to sushi. We went to Seaside grille for lunch on the first day and it was a great way to start the vacation. I had the wings and if you’re a wing person. GET THEM. I had them for lunch as well as room service and they are fantastic! On certain days they have BBQ by the main pool. We had some of the best burgers we’ve ever eaten. The ribs are also great. I will say that although this is a higher end resort that typically focuses on great food selections if you like hot dogs, please try the hotdog from the barefoot grill. You will thank me later. It was served with the crispiest waffle fries. It was an unexpected treat for sure! We only went to 3 of the restaurants for dinner. Bordeaux: We ate here twice during our stay. The fois gras was great, the cheese tray was SO delicious and the surf and turf (filet and lobster) was cooked to perfection. Oceana: This is their seafood restaurant and we weren’t extremely impressed with this one. I will say that the swordfish appetizer was some of the best swordfish I’ve ever tasted and was even better than the actual swordfish entree. Everyone we talked to loved this restaurant so definitely try it. The chef actually came to our table and greeted himself which was very nice. The employees here are top notch and i will have a separate section just for that. Himitsu: This is their Japanese restaurant that also has hibachi. It was good, not great. We sat at a regular table, not hibachi but everything was good. On a few of the nights when they have shows near the pool, they also offer BBQ which is fantastic. This is the first time I’ve been to a resort that offers outdoor dining with a show. I must say we loved this. I wake up early and spend most of the day at the pool so I’m usually in bed early. Having entertainment while you eat was a VERY nice touch. A highlight of the BBQ was a dessert called "Capirotada.” I only know that because our amazing Consierge found the name of it as well as sent me the recipe AND the story behind it which was so nice. I’ll speak more about the concierge later in the review. If you’re interested in trying the Capriotada, it was at the end of the dessert cart in the catering tray. I’ll add a picture as well. The food was truly amazing and a huge shout out to whoever is in charge of their desserts. At most of the all-inclusive resorts I’ve been to, most look great but are tasteless. NOT the case here. There’s a wood fired pizza oven next to the main pool. YES A WOOD FIRED PIZZA OVEN! If you don’t try the pizza, you’re nuts. It’s phenomenal and I mean that. I’m Italian and a total pizza snob. Try it. There was a couple from Italy we spoke to and they also agreed. Room Service: We were too tired to go out one night so we stayed in and ordered room service. It didn’t take long before it showed up in our secret food box in the closet. Once again, it did not disappoint. Pools/Ocean: We started most mornings at the Infiniti pool closest to the ocean. They have morning exercises which we did not take part in but looked fun. Once the volleyball net was setup, we would make our way to the relaxing pool which is in the front of the resort. If you are looking to relax and read or have great conversations with people from around the world, this is the place for you. They also provide very comfortable blue floats. There is quite a bit of wildlife around the resort which is wonderful. One interesting critter that is quite prevalent is the raccoons. I live in Ohio and raccoons are definitely not the same here. One day, my girlfriend actually had a muffin in her swim tote and a tiny raccoon actually climbed into the bag while we were sitting there. She shook him out and had a bit of tug of war for a few seconds with the tote. I say this not to complain at all… just a heads up. They are very friendly and cute for the most part. Still wild animals but are not something to be afraid of. Unfortunately, it was sargassum season so the seaweed was very prevalent every day except the day we arrived and the day before we left. This is just nature and wouldn’t stop me from returning. They do everything they can to clean it up. The water on the clear days was nice and the beach is also nice but i would recommend water shoes as there’s quite a bit of rocks. I chose this resort knowing that this is where the sea turtles are. I highly recommend booking an early morning turtle tour with Fernando. We brought our own snorkel gear but they do offer it. You walk a hundred yards or so off of the resort on the beach to the location where you will enter the ocean. His employee will ask you to hold onto a life preserver and you are literally pulled out by his teammate with flippers. He placed us directly over the turtles as they ate and occasionally come up for air. It was an amazing experience. One of the turtles came up for air less than a foot from me. You do not touch them and i would never but i could have kissed him that’s how close it was. You can book through the resort but they have limited space and it’s not private. Go with Fernando for sure. The Staff: This is a tough section to review. The reason is because I CANNOT say enough positive things about the staff. Literally, everyone here is so nice and attentive. There were 2 people that made us feel so special. Our Concierge’s name was Ricardo. There isn’t enough space or words to praise what a great job he did. From the time we met him, he was an absolute gem and made it well known he was there to make our stay special and that’s exactly what he did. He connects with you via WhatsApp and welcomed any question we had. Like i mentioned earlier, he even provided me with a recipe for the dessert we loved! He provided a schedule each day and even responded to a question we had when he was off duty. At one point, we even joked that he was a stalker but that’s just how we joke. He had exactly the right amount of interaction with us where we felt special and looked after without feeling smothered if that makes sense. We actually got lost at the resort early on and ran into the director of service and when we mentioned the building we were in he said “oh Ricardo is your Concierge… He’s truly a diamond in the rough.” He was 100% spot on and it was so nice to see he’s appreciated for the amazing service he provides. I hope you’re lucky enough to meet Ricardo when you stay. I’ve never had that level of service before. On top of providing exceptional comfort while we were there he even texted the day after we left to see if we made it home safe. Who does that? Ricardo does because he’s the best at what he does. Sincerest Thank you goes out to him. Then there was Marysol. We met her as a hostess at the Oceana but you might find her at other restaurants as well. She is an absolute sweetheart. Extremely professional and cares deeply about the guests experience. She stopped by our table and talked to us as if we were family. She stated “this is your home” and when you’re in her presence you feel that way. Thank you again Marysol for making us feel special. The resort in general: It’s gorgeous. The pathways are lush with trees, bushes and flowers. When i watched reviews on YouTube and people said it’s easy to get lost, I laughed since it’s not a large resort. It was funny until i got there. It is easy to get lost here but you will find your way eventually. If there’s anywhere I don’t mind being lost, it’s here. One huge negative for us is the smoking sections. I know this is a huge plus if you’re a non-smoker but if you are, it does make vacation a bit hard. There are designated smoking sections which are small cut-outs within the walkways that are not pleasant. You are also not permitted to smoke on your balcony. Again, probably a pro for most these days but a con for the few of us left. That being said, I’d still return. This has been a long review so I’ll stop now. I’m sure I’m missing some wonderful aspects of this spectacular resort. Do NOT hesitate booking here. You will love it! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. Jamie Anthony.

The staff at the swim up bar really made our stay. You all were wonderful! No complaints with food. Night shows were awesome! Some of the best we have seen. Don’t judge the show by the name…one we thought wouldn’t be good turned out to be the best. The best thing about the resort is you can rent a life jacket and walk right off the beach and see turtles. No need to book an excursion just to see turtles. DO NOT touch the turtles. Do NOT enter water on right side of beach when facing the water. There is a ton of jagged rocks there you can’t see and we ended up bruising our feet pretty bad and getting a nice cut because we kept tripping over the rocks. Walking around the rest of the trip was pretty painful. Tip: if you have a Go Pro, get a red filter. Helps eliminate the photos looking do blue or green.
