Reviews of Royalton Antigua, an Autograph Collection
Beautiful resort, the rooms are large and very comfortable. Plenty of activities. The yoga and aqua fit led by Lady J were exactly what we needed to justify all the eating. The specialty restaurants were excellent and the night entertainment was good.

The beach is glorious, and when the restaurants are fully staffed, they provide an adequate but limited menu. It was quite difficult to get into them at a time and day of choosing.
Given that we had paid for the upgrade to Diamond Club, we had expected to receive improved choices. The staff were friendly and polite. Entertainment is OK, but the lobby is a dreadful area for the shows if not seated directly in front of the stage.
The room was good with an enormous bed, although the balcony chairs could have been more comfortable.
We did think that opting for Diamond Club meant that there would be rooms expressly for this service in a designated area, but it seems that individual rooms are equipped on an 'as necessary ' basis, but may be wrong in this.
Overall our holiday was what we hoped for. A beautiful location, with lovely staff and a restful time.

Was brand new but that you cannot set the temp you desire. The buffet is ok and is actually better than the restaurants. We ate at the Italian restaurant one evening and it was horrible. My fish filet was so tough I needed a knife to cut it. Fed is all to the resident cat who loved it. Cancelled future reservations at other restaurants based on that experience. Unless you are “Diamond Club” you are not a priority. Sadly, we are Marriott Platinum Elite and were still “ordinary” guests there. Ugh, I hate giving negative reviews but this place needs to get their act together. Never again.

We had a personal butler, he was there to ensure we had all we needed, and if we had any requests he dealt with it. He made my husbands birthday very special by decorating our room with flowers , wine, cake and beautiful birthday message spelt across the bed in leaves, simply wonderful. The rooms were kept beautifully clean. Everyone was so friendly and kind. I personally loved the whole experience, only one negative, some of the food was trial and error but overall good

The property is described as a 5 star resort which is misleading because all that means is that the property has more than one restaurant, lifts, 24 concierge etc. The 5 star refers to facilities not the quality of hotel.
We did have a shaky arrival and check in at the hotel as they didn't appear to have the correct details on our reservation and it did take an hour to check in due to no escalation procedures in place to deal with such situations. Having said this individually all of the staff always went out of their way to provide an excellent standard of service to guests. They are a credit to both the hotel and to the island of Antigua. The hotel is extremely comfortable but does have some serious management issues mainly around the provision of food in the restaurants. There is distinct lack of leadership in this area. At the buffet for example there was no supervisor in charge of making sure that everything was perfect for guests so some annoying things were often missing like orange juice and butter for breakfast. Clearly nobody was checking. The Italian restaurant I have to say was a bit of a joke. Don't offer an Italian menu unless it is truly representative of the food from Italy. At every meal we had the staff couldn't have been nicer and one got the impression that they were embarrassed with the quality of food on offer.
We never had any issues with shortages of drinks in the bars (as referred to in other reviews) and we found the waiter service on the beach and around the pool to be excellent. The sandy beach is stunning but the hotel does need to invest in more loungers to accommodate the number of guests requiring one. Management should consider offering ice-creams in the pool area and revamp the Diamond Club food offering at the pool to a lighter fare.
It isn't really worth going to this hotel unless you sign up to the Diamond Club otherwise obtaining reservations in the various restaurants is almost impossible. The Butlers in the Diamond Club are attentive and genuinely strive to give a quality service
We really did enjoy our stay at the Royalton Antigua and with a more enlightened management this hotel could truly be excellent

Stayed 16th feb 2025. The positives are the location on the beach and the cleanliness of the resort.
The room smelt musty and damp and even our clothes in the wardrobe felt as if they were damp.
The beach bar continuously ran out of water, beer and cocktails this was as little as 2 hours after morning opening.
Some of the sunbeds were worn and the covers grubby. There was room to set out two more rows of sun beds which would ease the morning race to obtain a bed. My husband saw people heading to the beach as early as 5.30!
We ate at the Scores bar on one occasion only due to the experience. They had run out of fries replaced them with wedges. We ordered food waited for 90 mins to arrive when it did the waitress said there were no fries to which we said we understand but they were replaced with wedges to be told they run out also. We had a charred philly steak which only contained half of the stated ingredients.
Some of the restaurant chefs were ignored you, I was at the pasta section and the lady in front of me was served I was stood with plate in hand and the chef turned her back on me I waited but no acknowledgement so I left with an empty plate.
Staff in the main bar seemed to regularly disappear or leave to dance to the acts playing often leaving just 1 person working the bar.
On departing the resort we had our own taxi booked and pre paid and this was made clear to the bellboy. However when what we thought was our taxi arrived and confirming with the driver our name after him saying are you going to the ship, we got into the taxi only to arrive at the destination where he wanted payment stating the resort had booked him.
Some of the staff were polite and friendly whilst others were indifferent. Staff at the gelato and coffee shop were always welcoming.
Not the service and experience you expect from a 5 star resort that said if the above is fixed you could have a nice time.

The Royalton Antigua is not an extravagant resort by any means, but is still quite nice. If you're looking for a great family, all-inclusive resort, the Royalton Antigua is the place to go. If you're wanting a couples only resort this would not be the one to book. The room we were in was alright. Clean and comfortable. It did have a slight smell when we first got in but after a bit it seemed to go away. We weren't really impressed with the resturants that required a reservation, however, we did talk to other couples who did like them. My hubby and I preferred the buffet. There was a large variety of food to chose from, and everything we ate was quite tasty. We were impressed with all the staff from reception, to entertainment, to housekeeping, and security. We found them all to be friendly, professional, very helpful. We had no issues whatsoever. The Royalton Antigua is very kid friendly, but for our next trip to Antigua we'll stay at an adults only resort.

This is suppose to be a 5 star resort. I would give it a 2.5 rating.
This is the worst resort we have ever been to. As we were checking in, manager was in a yelling match with a guest about a charge. The manager finally admitted he was wrong. The guest asked for an apology and the manager didn’t say anything and turned and went through a door to the back. It was 6 pm when we were checking in and were told our room wasn’t ready. We’re told to take a look around and get a beverage and come back in a hour or more. Finally got to our room and found the room not very clean. Drink refrigerator wasn’t fun and only a couple of towels. The next day as we were by the pool there was no service to get you anything. We found out when we went for a drink they did not have too shelf liquor and no fruit for drinks. There only beer was there own Logar. We went to the concierge office and told them everything. They were very defensive and said they would look into it. We got to our room and it wasn’t any better than the day before including our refrigerator. We called down to the concierge again and got the same defensive attitude. They did send someone to touch up our room and fill the refrigerator. The next day the room wasn’t fun better but the refrigerator was not filled. My husband ordered 6 drinks along with some pop and juice with room service and was told he could only have 2. He explained our refrigerator wasn’t fun empty. When the only they came to fill it, my husband told the server if he kept our refrigerator full he would give him $20 everyday. Which we shouldn’t have to do. We couldn’t get reservations also, so we went to the concierge again and she said there was a person in our building that could do that. We went back to the building and there was nobody there. We went back again to the concierge and they said they would call someone and they would help us. We were ended up getting those booked finally. We found out that day they had American beer but you could only get that if you were in the preferred. Once again we went to the concierge and asked if we could get American beer since they didn’t have fruit to make drinks and I don’t like Logar beer. We were told she would check. Eventually we did get some and I started taking fruit from breakfast to get drinks made and paid the bartender for him making them.
I was asked on the phone before we left how our trip was and I went through it all with her. And she didn’t say anything.
The rooms are outdated and have mold in the shower and hallway. And it had a terrible odor. We cracked our sliding door until we say employees coming out of the trees. We had to keep the door closed and the curtains closed.
The food was horrible. In the buffet at breakfast it was as like they made everything right away in the morning and put it under a heat lamp. Always no bacon. The restaurants food was also not good.
Service was also not good. We felt from the time we got there that it was a chore to do anything for us.
The rest of the staff if you walk d by and then they didn’t look at you or say hi.
Every resort we have been to the staff smiles and makes a point of saying good morning or hi.
We will never go to any Royalton resorts and the owners of the resort should be ashamed for this resort. We will be telling all of our family and friends to look at the reviews before they go. I wish I did. You will see similar reviews to ours.

I had the pleasure of taking fitness classes with Lady J during my stay at Royalton Antigua, and she was absolutely fantastic! From the very first class, it was clear that she’s incredibly passionate about fitness and dedicated to helping others achieve their goals. Her energy is contagious, and she creates an environment that’s motivating and fun. Whether it was a high-energy workout or a more relaxed stretch session, Lady J tailored every class to suit participants of all levels, ensuring everyone felt included and challenged.
Her expertise and knowledge are unmatched, and she always took the time to correct form, offer modifications, and keep the classes engaging. If you’re visiting Royalton Antigua, I highly recommend joining one of Lady J's fitness classes. You won’t regret it!

We had a lovely time away at The Royalton in Antigua and found the resort, the hotel and the staff all really lovely. We didn’t want to leave!
For restaurant bookings you’re best to download the Royalton app, set an alarm for 10am and book for 48hrs ahead.
Nice hotel, lovely staff and location, not 5 star or “Luxury” sadly.

We were so looking forward to a lovely relaxing holiday in this "luxury" hotel however, sadly, and despite the efforts of most of the lovely staff, this was not that relaxing or a luxury stay.
The hotel is in a fantastic location with a beautiful beach but, our main issues were around food and drink availability and sun beds.
If we had a £1 for every time we were told “ sorry we don’t have that right now” we’d be very rich! The beach bar became a joke every morning and late afternoon as they would be out of stock of something, from bottled water, soft drinks, tonics, wine and smoothies. They clearly had stock as they would turn up with a few cases at some point throughout the day and if you were lucky, you could get the drink you wanted.
The same with the lobby bar at the start of opening at 5pm. We discovered the lovely staff would make a list of what was required when they opened at 5pm, then wait for an hour or so for someone to deliver the required stock. Why not get the staff who closed the bar at night to make the list so when it opens it is fully stocked?
The restaurants we booked were also hit and miss with what was available and which wine they had available as there was always something they didn’t have. Again, we don’t believe the hotel was short, the products were just not in the right place at the right time.
The main buffet restaurant was fine for breakfast and lunch, but the evening meals were not that great as a lot of the hot food was warm/cold, unless you timed it right and got there just as they had cooked some more of certain things.
We tried the three “ale carte” restaurants and whilst the menu and standard was better, they still had issues with some food choices not being available along with certain wines.
The staff in the main were lovely, the beach bar staff weren’t that happy, but we couldn’t blame them given the situation they were in, dealing with unhappy customers.
The other issue we had was, when the hotel is full, they did not have enough sun beds and the situation is not managed at all by the hotel. They allowed guests to have as many towels as they wanted so could save beds on both the beach and by the pool. Also allowed people to go down anytime between 5am (and possibly earlier) onwards to save beds. I went on holiday to enjoy the pool and beach and not have to get up before 7am to find most beds had gone.
It was also disappointing to see a large number of the cushions on the beds were in a very poor state, ripped and having black mould, not something you would expect from a quality hotel.
After a large number of us complained to the hotel, they did get more sun beds in which helped if you didn’t require a brolly.
This issue can be managed as we have stayed at hotels who have been able to ensure all guests have a sun bed as they only give one towel per guest.
We did complain to a manager, all we were told was the hotel was under new management and things would be sorted. Sadly, apart from some more sun beds, nothing else improved whilst we were there.
We worked very hard to save for this holiday and to have a restful and relaxing break however this is something we did not get.

Not 5*, Not Managed, Noisy
This is a true and honest review of our experience at the Royalton Autograph Hotel, Antigua. On arrival we were swiftly taken to the Diamond club and checked in an taken to our room which smelt a bit musky on arrival.
Although we asked for Block 10 for a view of the bay and a quiet room, we were put in 11101 which is opposite the diamond club reception and next to the lifts and entrance, so at times quite noisy.
One morning they were using some machinery in the hallway at 7:30am which was very noisy and woke us up.
The room was clean and spacious with a good bathroom and shower. We had a swim out room but
Only got the sun until around 11am and the loungers were in the water and not on the terrace. If they were you did not get any sun at all. The room was cleaned daily and mini bar refilled.
Restaurants-Food
First night the buffet restaurant was closed, so we had to sit outside and the food available was a few tins over night-lights which were either cold or empty. Very little in the way of starter, or desserts and no cheese. The following night it was open with a much wider choice, however the food was often slightly warm or cold. On several occasions the fish section they did not light the hotplate until AFTER the restaurant had opened so fish was not available for another 20minutes or so. Very little variety in dishes on offer each night. The breakfast was a better choice, although sausages not always available. The logistics of ordering supplies and catering for the restaurants needs some better management.
The steak house NEVER had any crab cakes or onion rings during the time we were there. On our last evening for some unknown reason the night time entertainment was put right outside the restaurant’s with very, very loud music. We went inside the steak house when we eventually got a table but it was still nearly impossible to have a conversation or hear the waitress, as the music was sooooo loud.
Beach/Pool
The beach and sea were a delight. The pools themselves were good. However again the music as so loud most of the time and when it was Aqua it was unbearably loud. It was so loud one day we could hear it very loudly on our terrace behind the wall some 300 yards from the beach especially when the female was on the microphone we had to retire to our room and shut the door. We did mention this to the butler who did speak to the entertainment team. When we did go to the beach/pool as we were diamond club we could go to the far end and using ear plugs it was not quite as bad, but not enjoyable.
The area around the pools needs some serious maintenance as there were many tiles missing in the pool leaving sharp edges. The steps to the beach need painting as it is all flaking down to the wood. The paving needs some deep cleaning.
There was always plenty of towels and bins to put your used towels. However, many guests were too lazy even to do this and just left them on the beds, so you did not know if the beds were free or not. The pool people are there to serve drinks etc and should not be treated as slaves.
Bars
There were no quiet bars or quiet seating areas in the grounds, even though there was plenty of space to put some table and chairs. At the children’s splash park parents were sitting on the concrete, which I think is unacceptable. It is a lovely area with shades but NO tables and chairs for sitting.
We had paid a premium to the diamond club so we used the Diamond club lounge and terrace but there were only 6 chairs on the terrace. If we had not paid for this, our holiday would have been even more miserable.
Staff
We found all the staff very helpful and polite all the time. Jasandra in particular always greeted you with a smile.
This was our time at a Royalton Hotel and were not very impressed at all. The hotel is completely mis-managed and the logistics of running the hotel and restaurants is not working as it should. The maintenance of the hotel also requires attention although the gardens were well maintained.

Reception - staff are rather rude and on numerous occasions went down in the morning and no staff were there.
Rooms - very impressed with the room, clean and tidy. Lovely shower area and fridge was topped up daily. Only downside was the noise from the corridor as walls very thin.
Beach bar- service was awful and the staff were extremely rude. Definitely not enough staff for the amount of guests. They also kept running out of drinks which was unacceptable. Certain staff would also tell you there were no certain cocktails today, then you would see another bar tender making one. The worst service I have ever
Sports Bar - good set up, but again staff are rude and have an attitude. Food is good here but you have to wait a very long time for it.
Buffet - buffet food was generally ok, service not bad. But found the seating area was full of flies.
A la carte - Caribbean was extremely slow service and unpleasant staff. Food was really good but the portion sizes were very small. Hunter steak house was very good food and the staff were really accommodating and friendly.
Beach - gorgeous beach and very clean.

I was hoping so many of the other reviews were wrong, but alas they were correct. Today is my checkout day, so I wanted to allow as much grace as possible.
Let me start with the room being ok - again, we managed any expectations to give an objective review.
PROS
1. We enjoyed the entertainment- they were very engaging.
2. Our Aqua Fit instructors were amazing! One of the bartenders (she wears her hair in a high bun), was also amazing.
3. Several of my travel companions had Coco as their butler - all I can say is, Coco sets the example of how more staff should be. I did not have a Diamond Club reservation, but saw how much my friends loved her!
4. Beautiful scenery
5. Gluten free pasta and pizza were delicious, and HOT (that ends my experience with hot food).
CONS:
1. There has never been a time all of my vacations that staff overall seemed bothered by anything you ask - no matter how small. And I am not a person who has to be catered to for my every whim. Several even rolled their eyes and didn't reply to me when I asked "is there gluten free bread available?" or "may I have water?" A handful were pleasant, but this is overshadowed by the MANY who were rude, dismissive, and/or unhelpful.
One particular instance, my husband and I were in Score, the sports bar. Apparently, either a staff person or a patron spilled lots of ketchup on the floor near us and in the walking path of others. We didn't want to slip or have anyone else slip on the ketchup, so we alerted one of the staff members. She looked at it and walked away, like it was a bother. The second time, she walked over it. The third time, she looked at my husband and rolled her eyes LOL. Oh wow. A woman, who appeared to be the manager, walked around asking guests how everything was going. When she arrived at our table, we told her about the ketchup and that we didn't want an accident to happen with it on the floor. She immediately retrieved a mop and wiped it up. This was after at least FIVE OR SIX staff persons walked right by it!
2. They run out of food and drink items OFTEN. And they were not hard to replace items. Cranberry juice, anything with mango (they have mango trees all over the place on the island), and these are just two of what they either didn't have or ran out of.
No gluten free bread ever appeared for breakfast - for the entire week, even after I asked several times. I was often met with a "why are you bothering me" look.
3. Food on the buffet was always lukewarm in temperature.
4. LONG, long, long wait for food. And when it arrives, it's cold or lukewarm.
I will NEVER, EVER return to Royal Antigua, even if it was free. They really need to use these reviews as a customer service improvement opportunity.

Beach bar- service was horrible. This bar services the pool and beach but the staff are always unpleasant, rude and not helpful.
Bars - premium alcohol ran out mid week
Buffet - again unpleasant staff to deal with. Food ran out after first hour of opening and was never replenished or replaced by something completely different. Signage were either missing or incorrect.
A la carte - Caribbean was extremely slow service and unpleasant staff. Food was ok. We went to Hunters twice as we appreciated the friendly staff and food. Service was a bit slow second time but the polite staff more than made up for this.
Beach - was wonderful but had to get out early to get chairs with shade. Appreciated the unlimited towels.

My husband & I and our friends went to Royalton Antigua Autograph Collection for a Birthday celebration. We upgraded to the diamond club to give ourselves a little VIP service. Good news is having a butler meant there was at least someone you can contact for the many issues. If you didn't have a butler you were out of luck. Here are the pro's to this resort; the beach is beautiful, water is amazing, weather was fantastic and the other guest were very friendly. That's it for the pro's. Here are the con's; the service is extremely slow, the majority of the staff (except for 1 or 2) were rude and did not want to be there. The food was mediocre never hot, mostly cool and they were always running out of items. It was a hit or miss everyday. The entertainment was a big disappointment, by day 3 we gave up on it. It was a running joke to see if a bathroom had toilet paper as this was always empty. Some guest were carrying their own. The rooms we outdated and there was mold on the ceiling, they would paint over it but there were area's they missed. There is a smoke smell that comes in through the air vents at night and your room would smell like burnt trash. When we advised, we were told that they were smoking out the mosquitos, another person said they burn their own trash and a third said it was burning charcoal....needless to say, we never found out the truth. Elevators are small so there is a constant wait. I was really disappointed and speaking to quite a few guest, they were in the same boat. Unfortunately, this will not be a place I will go again....Let alone the airport was a major disaster to leave. You have to go through immigration to come in and fill out paperwork (no problem I get this) BUT then you have to go through immigration and fill out paperwork to leave...did not know this as half the people in line didn't either. Once through all this hell we had a 5 minute walk on the runway to our plane, felt bad for the elderly trying to walk that far, always a joy to see planes taking off next to where your walking...they yell if you take photo's or video and tell you it's not allowed...I wonder why?
So my suggestion is to be prepared if you go, be ready for anything. I am heading back to Aruba was everything was perfect!

There wasn’t one terrible thing that made the Royalton just ok but after staying normally at Secrets Resorts, we have been accustomed to a certain type of vacation.
The Royalton was a beautiful resort and has the potential to be amazing but it’s missing in a lot of areas.
Running out of food, no water or coke at the pool, many drinks not able to be made due to missing ingredients, rooms that could be a tad cleaner/kept, and staff that doesn’t seem to want to be there. Don’t get me wrong, we had a few good meals, some great staff, and still had a nice time, but that WOW factor we are used to wasn’t here at this resort. Our Butlers were great, the upper mgmt really kept tabs on how you were doing, but ultimately the entire package we get at Secrets was missing.
With all of this said, people complain about what they spent to stay here. It is not expensive for what we got, nor would we have been able to stay at Secrets if there was one in Antigua for $5400 for 8 days/7 nights per couple. Again not a terrible vacation by far, but I would pay more if I had to for a better experience.

We are currently staying here, five days in. This is not a five star hotel.
Checking in was horrendous, took hours. There is a lack of information at this hotel. The food is not of a high standard as you would expect it is a two to three star. The cocktails are hardwork in making the bar person understand what you would like. They are constantly running out of items. Some staff can be rude and unhelpful. Entertainment is on late. The buffet restaurant is a run in and run out.
The room is very nice, that's all I can say so far.

Not FIvE STARS, NOT EVEN THREE STARS!
The worst place we ever been in the world!
Please do not come to this place, very unwelcoming from the moment we arrived.
Unwilling to explain anything when we arrived very slow check in ,took over an hour .
Unsanitary hotel, especially dangerous in the restaurant staff has no idea how to handle food, just be aware!!
Food is absolutely disgustingly terrible, not enough variety, buffet food always cold and very poor quality. Macaroni and cheese, pastas, stale bread , no fish.
Untrained employees at restaurant, have no idea how to handle meat. For raw and cooked chicken using the same spatula.
Pasta “cook “ telling the guests that it’s their job to put vegetables for pasta straight into the fry pan on the top of the gas stove instead of doing it themselves. Extremely dangerous! When ask if an employee could squeeze an orange , an employee took up
a quarter of an orange and started to squeeze in my glass by hands . Ice in the bar was serving into the glass by bare hands!!

The same food every day , breakfast and lunch exactly the same - horrible quality .
Undrinkable water in the tub , but no bottle water at the restaurants or coffee shop. “Specialty” restaurants very difficult to book because the app. not working . Booked restaurant after waiting at the desk from 9am to 10.30 “The Steakhouse”, but they didn’t have steaks. The same situation in the
Carribian Restaurant No Fish!
Entertainment practically not existing.
Food for kids was on the separate table :
with the sign : FOR KIDS ONLY “
The Food for kids every day:
1. Macaroni and cheese,
2. Frozen French fries
3. Blacken chicken wings
4. Candy
every day , breakfast and lunch exactly the same - horrible quality .
Needless to say not recommended!

Honestly this place is amazing. My wife and I came to love so much about this place. The beach is the best on the island. The food is really good, especially the buffet. If you get here give this place a day to settle in. See all the beauty here. We made so many friends and so many staff members are loving and filled with so many wonderful qualities. You have to be kind and you will find so many good people here. We actually caught a mahi on a deep sea fishing trip and came back and the Chef Daniel cooked it up for dinner and lunch. Probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. He put so much into that and it was more than we could have imagined. Honestly this place is a tropical paradise but you can’t be over the top perfectionist. Find the beauty while you’re here and you won’t be disappointed. We changed our mindset and this is one of the best places we’ve been to on vacation. The people here make it special too. The gym was amazing and we came to love the people running it. Shannan and Jameel were amazing and we will be life long friends. The shows at night were so memorable and infused with so much of what the island culture is. The drinks were amazing here to, make sure you find Leston, he’s the best cocktail bartender on the island. So much about this place was so special and authentic. We would walk the beach every night and meet the people running the little shops. The were all so kind and incredible people. We experienced Shirley Heights one night with the people here at the resort, that was such an incredible view with amazing food. They have so many fun things to explore at the hotel too. My wife and I took a Kayak out along the walls and down the beach and over to the other resort. Then came back and I snorkeled the ship reck out in front of the resort. That was so cool to see. It was a huge crashed ship with reefs growing on it and fish everywhere. The pictures don’t do justice of this place but we attached a few. We will miss so much about this place.

The incredible people here are so helpful, kind and passionate about what they do/ they work so hard. The food and drinks are good and the buffet was our absolute favorite.
The beach is BEAUTIFUL. It’s absolutely breathtaking!! You won’t be disappointed.
There is so much to do, snorkel, paddleboard, kayak there is so much to offer and do.
The gym here is amazing. The gym has everything you need to get a good workout. The guys who run it make you feel comfortable, (thank you Jameel and Shannon)encouraged and motivate you on all levels. The classes are really fun and a great way to start the day!!!
We made life long friends here and we will be back. Thank you so much for all you do!!!!

I had recently stayed at royalton, Autograph hotel and I was very unhappy at my stay.
I have never encountered such a horrible experience. For starters, I had booked a Bay view and had a big white building in my view. I went to the front desk and they couldn’t switch my room until the third day of the trip, which only went down hill from there. There was a lot of miscommunication from the manager, who stated we had to give up our room and be without a room that we paid for until 5 pm. Then after going back and forth with the front desk staff, the manager on site stated she never stated that we had to give up our room. We did not have a room from 10 am until they informed us that we had a new room. But to our surprise the room that we were told to go to was not our room at all. We went into the room and the tv had someone else’s name. We were very upset and brought it up to the front desk’ attention. We then again started to go back and forth about being sent to someone else’s room. They then had moved us to a vacant room which had its own set of problems. These problems caused us trouble for the 2 nights we stayed in that room. We had to call maintenance 5 times and still they couldn’t fix the problem. At first , the lights would randomly turn off and wouldn’t turn back on. Then the lights would randomly turn on every 15 mins at 3 o’clock in the morning. The shower wouldn’t work properly. We had to manual hold the button down to get the rain shower to function properly. The hair dryer that was provided for the room was missing the back piece on the hair dryer. Since the back piece was missing it ended up sucking in my hair. I had to rip my hair out of the hair dryer which was extremely painful. It was a very unpleasant experience for me.
I contacted JetBlue vacations and they told me I have to email the hotel for compensation.
The lady that responded from the hotel didn’t do anything to help me. All she said was contact JetBlue and then never responded again and when I told her JetBlue said to contact the hotel.
Most of the workers are miserable and not friendly at all.
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.
Even though the resort was beautiful. It is literally a 2 star hotel in a 5 star location.
What a shame.

While the resort appears to be clean overall, ALL restaurants are overrun with flies. This is unsanitary and also causes a nuisance when eating.
I also was not impressed with what appears to be the lack of maintenance/upkeep of the lounges. MANY lounge cushions on the beach and around the pool are covered with mildew and algae, not what I would expect to see at a 5 star resort. I chose the Royalton as I'm accustomed to their high standards which is why I paid the high price for this resort as opposed to the other cheaper all inclusive options in Antigua.
My spa experience left much to be desired. My therapist had to be removed from our couples massage session so it was cut short. While I acknowledge that things happen and was quite understanding given the spa manager's apology, our 80 mins couples massage ended up being 50 mins. We had to go back the next morning for what was a 30 mins massage and a pedicure- it felt rushed as that morning we had to check out. The front of my body was never messaged at what was supposed to be an 80 min massage. What was supposed to also be a 60 min pedicure was only 45 mins so I am not sure whether we got what we paid for (royal pedicure USD$75 each) or whether we received an express pedicure (USD$60- which coincidentally is 45 mins). After spending USD$470, I was EXTREMELY disappointed as this couple's treat was meant to be a birthday treat for my other half.
While there is nightly entertainment, it starts way too late (9:00-9:30pm) for us- wish this was even an hour earlier.
Drinks at the pool were also disappointing as they were quite icy/watered down and the paper straws do not hold up well to allow for finishing the drinks. I'm all for the environment but paper straws just doesn't work.
The resort also runs out of items- some restaurant menu items were not available (so reviews/rumors are true) and the pool bar was out of Blue Curacao for all of our trip.
The resort's saving grace is their staff; they do the very best they can. Our butler, Rodwin, is the best butler we've had in all our all inclusive travels- extremely attentive and observant- noticed that my other half was drinking the merlot and brought an additional bottle to our room. He also decorated the room for my other half's birthday.
The Marriott representative Vanessa was also very attentive. She made sure to contact us and checked on us everyday to see if we needed anything.
It was an OK stay- I would return to Antigua but I won't stay at the Royalton.

Booked for a room with a king bed but put in a room with 2 queens. Asked to move and was given a room where it was musky smelling and dirty. The bathroom door was covered in what appeared to be mud. Yuk.
Some staff were Lovely and
Accommodating but most Simply ignored you.
Went to the swim up bar and was totally ignored while 3 waiters flirted with 3 young girls.
Eventually getting served and asked for a drink and pointed to the one that o e of the girls were holding. Tall fluted glass with pineapple and cherry on the top. Mine was slapped on the counter in a plastic cup "no problem with the plastic" but the overall mannerism. Needless to say "no tip". It was pretty obvious as one of the girls said " you didn't get a fancy glass.
One day my room did 't get serviced and prior I had received a call asking if we needed anything. I said no as my room attendant would take care of it. Finally went to the front desk and was told all maids were finished at 11:00 and this was 4:30. She accused me of leaving my DND out. Went immediately upstairs to check and it was not the case. Next day the maid told me she was up
Cleaning my room while I was at the front desk. That was not so as I went up to Check out the DND sign and she was not there .
The room did get serviced while we were out for
Dinner.
I was taken back with the warning about the bracelet upon checking in. It kind of put a cloud over our heads with the possibility of losing and being out $150 u.s.
The most memorable experience was with Minasha who booked our Al a carte's . Your App just doesn't work properly and she was
So helpful and pleasant.
There was also a gentleman who helped me get some toast for breakfast " wish I remembered his name". We were late and he ensured we got a little breakfast. A tall pleasant gentleman who worked outside in the buffet area. So kind of him.
First impressions are lasting and NO I will not go back.

By far this was the worst Royalton, I have ever been too. The front desk staff was rude, there was no air conditioning at the resort the last two days of our stay, our patio door would not lock and we were told it would be fixed but never was, the resort ran out of eggs for breakfast, and the menu options were limited at some restaurants. The worst part of our experience was that the Royalton staff charged us for a day at the resort for a delayed flight which was out of our control and saud we were a No Show however our travel agent had contacted them about the delay. The front desk representative would not allow us to check in our room until 4:30pm after we already had paid for the room.
The drinks at the resort was not top shelf as advertised, there was little or no entertainment at the pool area and the pools were filthy.
On a good, you do need to visit the Caribbean restaurant as Barbara provided amazing service. The beach was beautiful and the ocean was crystal clear.

Some staff ignorant and ignore you especially the lad at the water sports counter, but some staff go out of their way to help you. I emailed the hotel before arrival to say that we were looking forward to spending time in the casino, they replied but didn't tell me that they no longer had a casino. The hotel is tired, tiles missing from the pools, room doors catching as you try to shut them, patio door bug screen broken. Twice I was telephoned to arrange for our bags to be collected when leaving but no one turned up. When you order a well done steak in the restaurant you do not expect blood to come out of it when you cut it. Daily they run out of some drinks like rum, RUM we are in the Caribbean.
Good points, 14 days and no problems getting sun beds around the pool until mid morning or on the beach all day and plenty of umbrella shades. Food and service excellent in the Caribbean restaurant, three visits and all excellent. Plenty of beach towels available all day.
Overall we have been to Antigua a few times before and stayed at another resort, we will not return here.
