The first time I stayed at the Royal Park hotel was 2013. I visited family in Macomb Township and was told Royal Park was a hidden gem. Stayed 5 nights and did not disappoint. The room was very clean and room service was excellent. We been back several times after that and had no problem.
But after Covid the service went down hill and room service was delivered in plastic containers with plastic forks. Valet was only on the weekends. We decided to give it one more shot in October 2024. No Valet, no bellhop, and no room service for a five star hotel. Rooms are dated. It’s lost its appeal. We
went to the bar and drinks were $15 each. Next year we’re staying at a different hotel.

We always stay at the Royal Park when in town visiting family, however this time was our last. After a poor check in experience, with our card being declined numerous times, then being asked to try another credit card, to have that declined, then for us to check our banking app to find the hold charge for incidentals had gone through six times, our stay didn’t start off well.
There seemed to be a decline in service at the property since our last visit in 2021. The new parking charges of $20 per day for self, or $30 for valet, are an absolute joke, and quite frankly a brazen money grab. In addition to the disgusting parking charge, there’s a new ‘amenity fee’ of $15 per day. I did ask the agent on check what this fee was for, but never did receive an actual answer. I’m still curious to know what the additional amenities were that we paid an additional $15 per day for were.
The hotel itself is looking very dated. The lift control panels need an overhaul, as do the rooms. It’s 2024, and there’s still no in room coffee machine or smart tv. We were on the 2nd floor and it looked as though a renovation had been attempted, but only in the corner sections of the corridor, where there was new carpet, paint and lights, very strange.
On our first night, the ice machine was not working, which meant going up to the next floor, and on the morning of departure, the coffee in the lobby had run out, which meant a wait for it to be replenished. First world problems of course, however there just didn’t seem to be any attention to detail.
There were no longer any miniature toiletries in the bathroom, no cotton buds or wash mitt as was standard in every one of our previous visits. I understand that businesses are trying to cut costs, but at a higher end property such as the Royal Park, it shouldn’t be noticeable, and it definitely should not be negatively impacting guests.
We’ve since been informed that the hotel was sold, and is no longer a family business, which explains the decline in standards, and nickel and diming with the new charges.
A welcome drink and a lame voucher for a complimentary drink, do not make up for the exorbitant extra charges that are now standard at the Royal Park. We paid for our three night stay in full on booking, and on check out, had to pay an additional $60 for parking, plus $45 for the mysterious amenity fee, in addition to tax. Never again.

Con: No one offered help with luggage, bathroom lamp fixtures were dusty, no information in room on hotel features and services, website photo showed two comfortable chairs in room but we only had one. In this price range, expect a little more effort and maybe even some small treat or gesture that exceeds expectations.

The door stuck a bit when opening and room felt a bit dated, but overall it was pleasant and clean. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay. One problem I had was how they originally billed prepaid rooms, but that appears to have been fixed and have found I was not over charged.

The hotel was very clean...covid clean. But, no service upon entering in the rain. No valet or porters to help with luggage. Seemed drafty in our room and in the lobby where the fireplace is. We had high expectations for our 50th anniversary. The executive room was large and comfortable with no coffeemaker. It had a refrigerator, safe and iron. A hair dryer and special lit mirror in the bathroom. The shower had multiple heads. Overall, in my experiences, this was a "very nice" hotel, but not exceptional. There seemed to be a charge for almost everything. I like it, but would not return.

Royal Park Hotel is especially ideal for those of us who really despise off-highway hotels. Here is traditional elegance right in town, a rare gem at any price: landscape done right, bellmen to assist with luggage, a spacious entryway, gracious front desk check in. Our room was clean, quiet, the mattress firm, pillows and comforter very nice. The bar and restaurant is uncomfortably brightly lit and very loud, but service was excellent and food good. The wedding venues are set apart in the rear so regular guests can be unbothered by the noise. Our only complaint was that morning room service was bagged in paper for delivery, though it did cause it to be delivered quickly. The toasted bagel was cold, the coffee was abysmal (Nespresso in room would be a fabulous addition hint hint), and the fruit (especially the melon) was unripe and inedible.
Regardless, we would surely return, dine elsewhere close by in town, and enjoy the easy proximity to all that the City of Rochester offers.
