I really can't say enough wonderful things about this resort. The service at this hotel is the best we have ever experienced. The only guest experience that is similar is Disney World Deluxe Resorts. The food was marvelous, rooms were comfortable, location is right in the heart of Waikiki. The beach and pools are marvelous. We hope to return with our grown children and grandchildren. I don't have one item to complain about with this resort. It was 10/10 in every way. Not sure if I would ever stay anywhere else!

The Royal Hawaiian is our favorite hotel in the world. We had another great experience yesterday when meeting Luke one of the valets . He asked about our plans for the day and he suggested a local Hawaiian restaurant for us to dine at. It was amazing. Luke was friendly and extremely helpful . We truly enjoyed chatting with him and once again the feeling of Aloha was above and beyond . Thank you Luke.

Loved this hotel!!! It was much calmer than others nearby - had that laid back island vibe - but with all the amenities. We stayed in the newer section. Our room was spacious and lovely with a nice balcony and view of the ocean and Diamond Head. The beds were comfortable. Service was great everywhere. Would love to go back someday.

A really great experience! We arrived early and stayed at the bar till our room was ready. The hotel has a beach and you can reserve chairs and towels which is great. The breakfast is really nice and the dinner restaurants. Make sure you get a mai tai! The hotel is also walking distance from great shops.

The only pro of this hotel is that it is waterfront and central to high end shopping. Given the price point, however, I was expecting more. In fact, it was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. The check in process was easy but when we checked into our room, it smelled like a cigarette had mated with a fish. The hotel accommodated our wish to move to a less fragrant room. Our next room had no shower curtain. The hotel once again fixed this quickly only to get back to our room and find the shower head did not work. The hotel staff also fixed this, but I have not experienced so many issues in an overnight stay for 700 a night. I will say the hotel refunded our resort fee, so the staff were responsive but the hotel is just very, very worn down. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, but the decor is from the 1970s. Another thing to note about choosing points or breakfast at check in. The only thing that is free is yogurt parfait (which is tasty), but everything else is just reduced fee not free as they would lead you to believe. Do yourself a favor and keep your points. The restaurant was decent for breakfast and overlooks the water, which is nice.

Biggest issue was we paid for our stay before we left UK and after we left we have been charged again on departure! Now we are facing the issue of getting our money back. Other issues - On arrival at 12 midnight we asked for a drink, and water in our room was all to be had. There was no breakfast facility only a muffin bar. There was no outside space that was free around the pool and you had to pay for sunbeds literally on the sand outside the hotel which was very very busy. Room was good we had a suite. It was very built up around the hotel which spoilt the ambience. When we left we had to carry our own bags not very attentive.

The hotel is old (they call it historic) and not even close to a luxury collection. The rooms and the bathrooms need a major renovation. One guest checking in - now checking out , claimed that she had a termite infested room. The $52 resort fee is a rip off, as you still get charged $74 for 2 beach chairs and an umbrella. Not enough pool lounges, so you better get down there by 1000am. Gym is tiny and an afterthought as is the spa. It does have a great location. As a titanium Bonvoy member, I used my suite night upgrades and only got a corner room. They wanted $500 per night for an actual suite. Against the spirit of the reward program. Blow this palce up and rebuild it.

The hotel itself and the staff are absolutely wonderful. There’s a scent that the hotel pumps around that hits you as soon as you walk in and it is otherworldly. The old world charm hits the mark, and greenery around the hotel is amazing. However, for a luxury hotel and experience I found it a bit insulting that there were no complimentary options for lounging on the beach. With a resort fee each day, you would assume that provides access to beach chairs, umbrellas, or lounges which it does not. It’s a $75 a day or $35 for half a day to have access to chairs, umbrellas, or lounges on the hotels beach, and there’s no guarantee they’re available if you get there any time after 8:00 am. I’ve stayed at other Marriot properties where this wasn’t the case, and for such a wonderful hotel this was quite disappointing. The simple solution is to go to one of the ABC stores or Target which are walking distance and buy chairs, but again this shouldn’t be necessary at a luxury resort.

If you enjoy standing in line, this is the hotel for you. We stood in line for breakfast, dinner, to check in and to check out. The service in restaurants is also a struggle. Our upgraded room was small and outdated. Having got that off my chest, I’d like to say something positive. This is an historic hotel with beautiful public areas and we did enjoy staying here. Another plus is you can use the facilities at its sister hotels - the Sheraton and the Surfrider - and we spent a lot of time there as they seemed to operate more efficiently.

These are luxury accommodations and not the best options for those looking for a bargain. We arranged our beach umbrella and chairs before my husband and I arrived for under $80 per day. Our daily breakfast choice included in the price was a number of styles of eggs benedict plus fresh Hawaiian juice. Drinks at the palapa bar were expensive, but a heavy pour of alcohol. We had a garden view and enjoyed walking out into the lush landscaping every day. Our bargain was to purchase pineapple wine at an ABC store for under $20 / bottle. It was a wonderful get away from the cold Colorado winter!

I recently stayed at this hotel, and overall, it was a wonderful experience. The location is stunning—right on the oceanfront, with breathtaking views and easy access to shopping center and restaurant . It’s a peaceful and beautiful place to relax and explore, with everything within walking distance. However, the service didn’t quite meet the standards of a 5-star hotel. I had one unfortunate experience at the Maitai bar that left a bad impression. The sign at the entrance said, “Please seat yourself at an unoccupied table,” so we did. However, one of the sever her name was Jamxx came over and started yelling at us, saying, “This is a dirty table! You’re not supposed to sit here!” Instead of calmly addressing the situation or helping us by cleaning the table, the server’s tone was unprofessional and rude, We were very embarrassed. This was very disappointing, we didn’t go back the maitai bar after that experience

Beach chairs entirely sold out for all days of our stay, even when trying to reserve 24-48 hours ahead. Very small pool, again with no chairs available. The hotel staff however are very nice/hospitalable, and resort is in excellent location.

This was one of the better choices I have made during my travels. On a flight back to PHX from AUS we had a 27 hour layover in Honolulu. I booked this fabulous hotel for the night using my Bonvoy points and it was one of the highlights of our 3 week trip. We got off our long flight from Sydney and arrived at this hotel to a wonderful check-in experience. They were able to get us into our room early, so we dropped our luggage and spent the most relaxing day on the beach reading and decompressing from our whirlwind trip. The food we ate, the atmosphere, and everything about this hotel was just what the doctor ordered. It is walking distance from great shopping and restaurants, and the beach was great! I highly recommend this hotel. I especially recommend it if you are wanting to treat yourself during a layover.

I was blown away with my experience at this beautiful classic hotel on Waikiki Beach. I wanted to celebrate my 70th birthday in Hawaii and chose this luxury hotel right on the beach. From our welcoming experience with the front desk to all the staff here they are very kind and considerate. I asked for and received a room on the higher floor of the Mailani Tower. We had a breathtaking view of the beach, surfers and Diamond Head. Our king bed had a super comfortable bed, a coffee-tea station/small fridge area, a good size closet and full bath. Our balcony had both a loveseat as well as a small table with two chairs. The room was exceptionally clean and there was housekeeping every day. I knew that, since the original hotel was the 2nd one built in the 1920’s, the tower was built in 1968 - that the pool was very small. The unfortunate part of this as there aren’t a lot of chairs around the relatively tiny pool, we could see the pool from our room and there were towels placed on all those chairs by 7:00 in the morning. We were not in Hawaii to hang around the pool not as much an issue for us, but it’s really a rude thing to do. If you do want to take a dip, there’s quite a large pool at the Sheraton sister hotel next door you can use. We went to the Mai Tai bar on the property for lunch a couple days. Friendly staff, good food and of course, delicious Mai Tais! The location of this resort is in a perfect spot in Waikiki, you’re close to shopping, restaurants and bars. We stayed for 6 days and wish it was longer!
