Excellent choice for a relaxing location, whether for a one night or multi- night stay.

Situated just before a long section of the Queen Charlotte Track, the location and amenities afford a yearly walker/traveller to take stock of the surrounding while relaxing in a noice spa or swimming pool. Food is available at the Jetty Cafe (closed on wet days) or from the restaurant towards the top of the resort. The food was consistently of high quality and all freshly made. The choice of rooms is very good with something for singles, couples or families. We were made to feel very welcome from arrival through to departure. We were also well impressed finding it to be in a lovely quiet cove right on the QC track itself.

Beautiful stay in paradise
We stayed for 2 nights in a 1 bedroom cabin. It has the most amazing views and the QCT is in very close proximity. Highly recommend walking to Furneaux Lodge for lunch. Shame the weather wasn't better during our stay as we would have liked to enjoy the SUP boards...
We stayed for 2 nights in a 1 bedroom cabin. It has the most amazing views and the QCT is in very close proximity. Highly recommend walking to Furneaux Lodge for lunch. Shame the weather wasn't better during our stay as we would have liked to enjoy the SUP boards and kayaks - we'll just have to come back!

Punga was a welcome change after Furneaux Lodge of which I had expected better. The walk between the 2 hotels is definitely worthwhile. Upon arrival our baggage had already arrived. We were allocated a cabin which had (some) Seaview and located near the reception at the lower part of the property. Room facilities were fine and the balcony at the front of the cabin a good space to watch the stars and hear the water of the Marlborough Sound. Dinner in the restaurant was disappointing but breakfast better. The transfers between Picton are very well organised and Marlborough Sounds are definitely worth it but be prepared that this has a price tag...

Epic spot right on the Queen Charlotte. Had a long day on the trail and arrived in the afternoon to Punga Cove for the last night of their operation for the season, early June. The friendly receptionist Mandy was welcoming and showed us the facilities. Clean and tidy rooms. Had delicious breakfast and dinner at the onsite restaurant, venison burger was off the charts! Stunning views. Recommend to stay here if you are walking, riding or running the Queen Charlotte Track.

We were doing the queen charlotte track and planned to visit for drinks at the waterfront cafe and pizza on arrival. the staff decided not to open that friday so it was closed. hundreds of people were enjoying the grassy site at the waterfront and were disappointed. the punga fern restaurant was open but its a very steep uphill climb to the restaurant to get food and drinks. Do be aware that apart from the grassy area at the waterfront the whole of punga cove is on a steep hill and requires walking up and down steep paths to get to places.
The punga fern restaurant has amazing views, but the food let it down. I was keen on seafood chowder starter and then mussels. But the waitress advised they dont allow a starter size seafood chowder. I thought that was totally bizzare. the mussels were overcooked and werent the plumb juicy mussels you expect from mills bay mussels. The seafood lasagna was short on seafood and a soggy mess. The creme brulee was terrible - it wasnt a creme brulee cooked custard, i would call it a custard (possibly with gelantine rather than baked in water). The new york cheesecake wasnt baked and it was pretty sweet and disappointing.
We had lunch at furneaux and it was delicious and fantastic food. i recommend there instead.

Not as good as Furneaux Lodge
Disappointing – ordinary food no tap beer
We had an awesome room up a steep driveway - great elevated outlook over the beautiful sounds...BUT... if we'd known the problems at Punga Lodge we would have stayed at Furneaux Lodge two nights rather than splitting it one night in each
Very nice accommodation. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very helpful staff. Conversation was very clean and tidy. It was a very nice experience. Swimming pool Wills nice and clean and a great venue. Could use a spa pool as others were in it but maybe another time.
Good accommodation on the QCT.
Fabulous service by Trish in the office at Punga Cove Resort. Above and beyond organising last minute transfers to cut the planned walk down a bit because of the weather. Cute Koru villas. Heating great, bedding great, choice of pillows, lots of options for extra blankets. Bathroom products good. Hairdryer....

The general drying room on site didn’t dry things. The site is hilly so you walk up from reception to your rooms and up again to the restaurant.
Food nice but small servings and a lot of things on the menu were not available. Gluten free options for entre, main and dessert.
However, even with weeks of warning very limited packed lunch for gluten free walkers. I think they could have provided a gluten free cake option especially for the price you pay.

Lovely chalet-style room with outdoor verandah, a very good restaurant and extremely helpful staff in arranging an early departure before breakfast. A magical position! Our only criticism was the piped music spoiling the evening atmosphere which we were advised could not be turned off which otherwise was have justified a 5-star rating.

The next stop on Queen Charlotte Track was the Punga Cove. Here you obviously find more understanding for hikers than at the Furneaux Lodge. Here, too, we were able to book a hiking cabin on the last trigger, but it was better by classes than in the Furneaux Lodge. The sanitary unit was perfect, we had a kitchen to share for 6 rooms and the rooms itself were perfectly furnished for hikers. The food there did not need to shy away from Furneaux Lodge. So we were totally satisfied with our stay.

Some tweaks needed in the kitchen
Lovely place to chill out in the Marlborough Sounds. We walked there from Furneaux Lodge, its sister establishment 13km away round Endeavour Inlet. It’s the lesser sister though: the food wasn’t up to Furneaux’s standard, relying too much on warming drawers and appearing at startling speed in a tepid state....
