Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. The front desk team was very friendly and helpful. They allowed us to check in early which was very much appreciated given our early arrival from the airport. Our hotel room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The view from our window was fantastic. The complimentary port tasting in the Vinology with the view of the river and the area across called Gaia was simply fabulous. The restaurant bar was nice and we were served by Raquel Santos, who was helpful and very informative. She went above and beyond in speaking to us about the process of making the different specialty cocktails they offer and gave us information about the various types of wines that Porto prides itself of. The buffet breakfast was one of the best we've had with a great selection of hot and cold food including eggs, sausages, bacon, different pastries, yogurt, fruits, granola, etc. with a combination of traditional Portuguese and more mainstream breakfast items. The bachalau and salmon sashimi were fresh and delicious and the energy balls were great tasting (I should have asked for the recipe!).

Great location, friendly helpful staff, nice view, comfortable room.
We walked to the upper town, lower and across the bridge easily from the hotel. Wonderful restaurant reco from Pirfirio at the front desk for Sempre Assar 1, in Matosinhos area by the ocean. Superb fresh seafood simply grilled.

We stayed for 5 nights in December 2024. Nice but old building in a great location with the reception desk set back from the entrance. While in the hotel at the wine bar, my wife's sling bag was stolen off her chair. There was NO SECURITY in the hotel with anyone off the street freely walking in and out of the hotel. The manager said he was going to file an insurance claim but probably never did. The hotel made no attempt to take responsibility or rectify the situation which was the result of the total lack of security. We loved Porto but there is no security for the guests of this hotel on a very busy square. I would never stay here again and you should not either.

The only minor hiccup was the carpet in our room, which felt a bit dated. But honestly, any concerns were quickly overshadowed by the outstanding hotel staff. They indeed went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, and although I can’t recall their names, their exceptional service will not be forgotten. If you want a unique and enjoyable experience, this is the place!

The location is excellent, right on the bank of the Douro River. The riverfront rooms look upon the river, and beyond, at Nova Vila de Gaia, with all the Porto wine houses. A lovely view. The hotel is quite an achievement, fusing together a number of old riverfront row houses into a hotel. And you can see the seams, indeed, as you walk along a corridor and notice that a group of rooms is about a foot lower or higher than the next one. The staff are friendly and attentive, and everyone speaks at least three or four languages. But the property needs some TLC. The carpets are well trodden. The ceramic finish of sinks and other fixtures is frayed. And whoever decided barn doors make good bathroom doors needs to do penance. All in all, though, I would return to this place.

The hotel’s riverfront location made it an ideal base for a city break to Porto. We booked a river view balcony room and as soon we arrived we stepped out onto the balcony and were immediately absorbed by the sounds and sights of the place. The room was soundproofed (so no sleep interruptions), provided a comfortable bed, an excellent shower, tea/coffee and complimentary water, and the room was kept clean to a high standard. We had stunning views of the Dom Luis I Bridge and the Wine Lodges across the river. The Palacio da Bolsa and the Sao Francisco Cathedral were close by and the number one tramline is just outside the Cathedral. The town centre is a short walk uphill (that’s Porto for you) but for those preferring an easier climb the Funicular is a short walk along the riverside from the hotel and is a fun way to make the ascend to access the top of the Dom Luis I bridge, the Sao Bento Train Station and the Cathedral of Porto. Taxis can access the hotel if needed.
The hotel itself is comfortable and clean. Breakfast offered a variety of quality choices, including some Portuguese treats. Hugo, who managed the breakfast room, made our daily breakfast all the more special with his attentiveness and helpfulness. The reception staff deserve a mention too; Sofia, Raquel and Sandro, to mention but a few, were very helpful and friendly.
There are many restaurants just as you step outside the front doors of the hotel, so we had no problems finding somewhere to eat when returning to the hotel in the evening. There are many street players providing entertainment along the riversides.
We think the hotel would benefit from addressing the state of the carpets throughout the premises which show signs of having poor underlay and some stains in places, it was something that let the overall appearance of the hotel interior down. However, this did not take away from the comfort and enjoyment of our stay. If we were to return to Porto we would definitely return to the Pestana Vintage Hotel.

We loved our upper floor room with balcony overlooking the River Douro. Awesome views at all times of day and night. The weather was warm and sunny for April, so the riverfront esplanade was always busy with cafes and buskers. If we wanted to tune out at night, once the doors and windows closed it was silent! Also, the promenade below seemed to respect the locals so no noise after 10 pm.
It was one of our most relaxing holidays except for one glitch which was our fault.
We walked and walked the city. On one occasion, we thought we would get metro to the seaside.
But. En route, so much construction and busy ness. Diversions, even for pedestrians. So, from riverfront to train station and to metro beyond: BE WARY!
Stopped for a photo of the lovely tiles at Sao bento train station. Shortly after, I was robbed! Pick pocket!
Went out to Matsosinos on metro and never knew until after lunch!
BUT!
Next day, my wallet had been handed in to a cafe near the train station and they called our hotel. (Card in wallet!)
Hotel young manager collected the wallet for me. Lost cash, but thankfully my driver licences and bank card still there!
Of course I had cancelled the card. But here is to the kindness that remains in global society!
And to the amazing kindness and assistance from the Pestana Vintage Porto. And thank you so very much to the hotel staff, especially Rui Bras, who personally collected my wallet. Aldo to Porfirio (sp?) who gave us such a warm welcome on arrival.
We cannot recommend this hotel enough. Nothing is too much trouble.

Lot to like about this hotel. Location in the hub of the city on the river looking across to the Port houses/cellars. Right next to the D Luis bridge. Porto is quite hilly and your at sea level so be prepared for some steep inclines. Rooms were generous in size and ours seems to have good sound proofing. If you're a nit-picker you could say the bathroom suite was a bit dated. But it all worked flawlessly and was more than adequate for our needs. But what stood out the most were the staff. Genuinely happy to help. Pedro on reception and Hugo in the breakfast service deserve a special mention for going above and beyond expectation. Porto itself seems to have a lot of tourists when we went. But unlike some other Euro destinations currently, we felt very welcome and the Portuguese seemed more than accepting to have us there.

Rooms were large, clean, and beautiful. Common areas were also beautiful and unique. We loved the energy of being on the river with the street performers, shops and restaurants. The view of the bridge and across the river at Gaia was beautiful. Price was really good and the breakfast was beyond amazing. We had to leave at 3 am for the airport. They arranged our transportation and provided a wonderful box breakfast for us. Yep, we would recommend The Pestana Vintage to anyone!

Location is excellent and our river view room was worth the supplement. In addition to the view we were entertained by parades and buskers. We slept well and on the whole we enjoyed our breakfasts with the exception of the coffee (order coffee from the menu rather than the taking from the coffee pot they bring round for a better experience) and some of the cooked options. The buffet choices were very good. Probably the best pastel de nata we had was from here.
Our room was clean and spacious if a little worn. The fan in the bathroom was a little temperamental so to remove the musty smell we propped the door open to air it.
The team were friendly and very professional.
Watch that your taxi takes you to the right Pestana hotel. One taxi we booked set off in the wrong direction. Luckily Google map alerted us so we could tell our driver who was very apologetic. While we checked out other taxi arrivals actually wanted a different Pestana hotel so it seems our experience wasn’t unique.
On leaving we booked our airport taxi transfer through the hotel. The hotel is in a restricted area and not all taxis can come to the hotel. So if you want a door to door service to help with bags the additional cost is worth it.

Charming view if you get the room with river view, good location and facilities. Reception staff almost ruined it for us - pre paid package holiday with British Airways , arrived in the evening, showed them the voucher , they asked us to pay again just as we arrived "we have to check with financial department ", not even considering keeping the credit card for warranty until they sort it out next day like we were going to run away !!
The one who saved this review is Hugo from the breakfast restaurant - you could not have a more considerate, kind, attentive and helpful host than him! He made our mornings and whole stay really special.
