Love this place! This is our go-to lodging in the Monterey-Carmel area. Wendy and her crew are the friendliest innkeepers you could want.
We have stayed three times since 2021, each time in the Cottage, a small separate building near the main house. It has a living room and sitting room separated by an arch. There's a gas fireplace in the sitting area and a huge jacuzzi tub. The toilet room, which is where the shower is, is *tiny*; that's the only drawback.
The morning crew brought us breakfast at the cottage every day. Great breakfasts that managed to stay hot despite the distance from the kitchen. Otherwise there is a big dining table in the dining room in the house. Wine in the evening (we didn't attend).
The house looks like an old English country estate. It's an historic property about a 15 minute walk from FIsherman's Wharf, which keeps it close to everything but away from the noise of downtown.
The cottage was very quiet.
We hope we will be able to enjoy many stays there!

The Old Monterey Inn is a hidden treasure. An extremely quiet neighborhood during our stay surrounded by an enchanted garden, yet within walking distance to shops and restaurants nearby. Beautiful and comfortable room and delicious breakfasts served in our room, although the dining room was so beautiful and difficult to pass up for morning breakfast. The (OMI) Carmel Martin house is an interesting, historic house which was well appointed yet comfortable at the same time. I enjoyed reading about its history. The staff was attentive and kind as well. We will have to return on our next visit to the Monterey/Carmel area.

The only way to describe this inn is magical. I am not one to wax eloquently but our stay was truly flawless. As we pulled into the narrow driveway, two deer appeared as if in a fairy tale. Wendy, our hostess, was beyond accommodating. They stick a fridge with yogurt and sodas 24/7. The happy 2 hours had lovely snacks and wine, while the breakfasts were indescribably delicious. The gardens are enchanting. Quiet and very comfortable room, everything we needed or wanted.
My boyfriend isn’t a fan of small inns and I scoffed at the price, but we were both wrong. He’s still not willing to try any other B&Bs, as they will never live up to this one. I feel our visit was worth every penny.

Undoubtedly a gem in Monterey. My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at this Inn, and we had a wonderful time. The Garden Cottage room was very comfortable and romantic. You will feel very relaxed as you walk through the beautiful and peaceful gardens and enjoy the relaxing aromas lingering in the air from the abundant flowers. Breakfast was served at 9 am, and of course, it was very delicious. The General Manager, Wendy, was attentive to our needs and made us feel comfortable. She made our stay pleasant and, without a doubt, gave us the desire to return.

Old Montgomery Inn is beautiful English Tudor mansion for you to experience.
Travel Date: September 30, 2023
The Old Montgomery Inn was a wonderful B&B for our first visit to Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur. The English Tudor mansion and expansive gardens are immaculate. Wendy and her team were wonderful, even provided a picnic basket for us to use on our adventure down the coast.

I cannot say enough good things about Old Monterey Inn. We booked it for three nights for our babymoon and purchased the babymoon package. Everything exceeded our expectations. The inn was so homey and cozy. We stayed in the Ashford suite, which was more spacious than I could have imagined. It was like a two bedroom one bathroom apartment and had a ton of closet and bathroom storage space. Keep in mind the bathroom doors don't latch shut, they just sort of sit shut. Wendy was beyond accommodating of all of our needs including my gluten allergy. The evening happy hour was something we took advantage of every night and absolutely loved. There usually weren't many people there, but it was nice even when it was just us enjoying the wine and snacks together. The babymoon package was so worth it. Spoilers ahead regarding it.
-The welcome snack basket was actually a beautiful, generously portioned plate of cheeses and fruits. They supplied gluten free crackers as well.
-The restaurant voucher made for a wonderful and stress free night out. It was an $80 voucher so be prepared to pay for some of your meal. I'm glad I inquired about this in advance.
-The sunset picnic was above and beyond. They stocked the picnic basket with everything you can think of and, again, accommodated my gluten allergy. It came with a bamboo mat and blanket to sit on as well.
-Breakfast was delivered to our room every morning and they even accommodated the fact that we wanted it a bit earlier (it is typically served between 9:00-9:30). Keep in mind that it is a fixed meal each day, not a menu of choices. Everything was delicious, but my husband is a bit picky so that was tough for him.
-The flowers and welcome gift were super nice touches.
Overall this was absolutely the most special weekend I could have imagined for our babymoon. Thanks, Wendy, for everything!

The Old Monterey Inn is one of the most charming and welcoming places we have encountered. From the minute you enter this historic house through beautifully tended gardens, this place feels special. The glamorous old building is full of charm and in our room every detail had been considered: a comfortable bed, fireplace, free-standing bath, a generous supply of soft drinks and snacks for guests to enjoy and fresh flowers in the room. The attention to detail was superb, and breakfast with other lovely guests was a joy - taken around a lovely dining room table and elegantly presented. Thanks to Wendy and her team for a delightful and memorable stay.

What a beautiful property. Huge breakfast served to our room in the morning. Wonderful amenities and clean, unique room. Nestled in a pretty quiet residential area, this was a great retreat from the busier areas in town. Would definitely visit again!
I didn't want to leave the cozy room.

The Library room was one of the most cozy, comfortable and cool rooms I've ever stayed in. Location was perfect, grounds were gorgeous and watching the 2 baby deers play hide & seek was the best. Open windows was the only air conditioning you needed.

Lovely B&B in the historic former home of the 1st mayor of Monterey. From the time you walk in until you leave, everything is about you. Rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet. Grounds are peaceful, inviting, and green! The service is over the top. The breakfast menu is simple yet elegant. Don't feel like starting the day with a group of people - no problem! A tray will be brought to your room. Also every afternoon is a wine and snack happy hour.
The Inn is just a short walk from restaurants, shope, etc - a bit farther from Cannery Row. Definitely will be back and 100% recommend to anyonelooking for the B&B experience - this place sets the standard.

Hi there- if anyone from the Old Monterey Inn is reading these, please respond. We had a really bad experience here.
For our honeymoon, we booked a room at the Inn fo January 8th and paid ahead of time in full. When we arrived, there was no one at the property at the check in time stated on the website/confirmation emails (3PM). We waited for an hour and no one showed up at the property, the doors were locked, there were no cars in the driveways, and lights were on inside.
We called the inn several times, no answer and no ability to leave a message. We emailed the inn and messaged through booking.com, no response. The Old Monterey Inn still has not refunded me for the room and we had to find other lodging last minute.
I would be very wary of staying here as this shows incredible lack of integrity and customer service - they have taken my money without delivering the service and are now completely silent. I really hope I receive a refund and an apology. This has been an awful experience - weeks later, I am still unable to get in contact with anyone from the property.
If someone from the Inn can see this, please contact me - Jane Pera. I have emailed several times and phoned. You can look me up in your records, we were supposed to stay there on January 8th.
Thank you.
Jane

We were told the main building of the Inn was built in 1929. It does retain an old world charm. Wendy the person who looks after the place was an excellent hostess and made sure we were very comfortable.. .

The Old Monterey Inn is very beautiful. The rooms are very nice and the gardens are fantastic. The breakfasts are wonderful and we enjoy the wine and cheese in the evening.
However, it’s obvious that the current owners are not taking care of the property like the previous ones. When you look out an upstairs window at the roof of the cottage below it’s obviously I need of repair or replacement. As I walk around the property and inside the home I see many places that the current owner should be paying closer attention to.
It is a shame that a beautiful property like this is being allowed to deteriorate. I doubt it will remain part of the exclusive group of inns that it currently enjoys.
