Yes, a great situation and we chose a more expensive guaranteed mountain view. So, no noise as these rooms are all at the back of the hotel.
Room service was mostly fine except for one day when our coffee cups were not replaced though the tray was replenished.
Front of house staff were friendly and happy to help throughout. One of the hot tubs was again under repair (as it was when we last stayed here in the winter) so limited use only possible for 6 (?) people.

We stayed at the Mount Royal for 4 nights in a standard king bedded room.
Check in was quick and easy. Parking is available at the hotel for CAD5 per night. It’s an open car park so car is out in the weather.
The location of the hotel is fantastic - right in the centre of town. Literally all restaurants and shops at your doorstep.
The room was located on the 4th floor at the back of the hotel with a view of the mountains.
At the back of the hotel is also the bus stop for buses heading to different ski areas and a small public car park so can get noisy. The hotel supplies ear plugs and a white noise machine. This was great and first hotel we have stayed at that had a white noise machine.
The room was on the small side. we were 2 adults with 2 large bags and it got a little squeezey but we made it work with moving a chair or two.
The bathroom was small as well with shower only - no tub.
The room and bathroom were modern and had everything you need including a small fridge which was located in the closet.
All in all the hotel was very good, cannot beat the location which makes up for the smaller rooms.

Great Location right in downtown Banff on the main strip close to all the shops and restaurants. On-site restaurant (Brazen) was very good. Friendly staff providing great service and there are out door hot tubs! We will book here again when our travels bring us back to the mountains.

The rooftop hot tubs were great and the fifth floor lounge was nice to relax in after a long day.
Room was clean, but could have used a wipe down of the walls or a deep clean.
When we come back to Banff we will definitely be staying at the Mount Royal again!

Very nice hotel, comfortable and clean. Great place to stay for exploring Banff. We didn’t try the restaurant but the menu looked good and it appeared to be very popular. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. Centrally located with parking.

Grim.
The first room we were given was extremely small, nowhere to unpack. It was extremely hot as the AC was on at 24 and could not be switched off and blew directly over the bed, the windows did not open. I went to reception to ask for a room with windows that open and was advised this was not possible as they were full. They said they’d let me know if there was a cancellation. They sent someone from maintenance who helpfully adjusted the AC to 17 explaining it was set so guests could not adjust it or switch if off. Astonishing. Having gone out to eat we came back to a stiflingly hot room again. I went to reception where they said the AC always reverts to this temp! They then said there was a cancellation (they hadn’t let me know until I asked). The next room was larger, had windows that opened but was right next to the outdoor AC unit so if you did open the windows it sounded like you were in a wind tunnel.
We decided fresh air was still better.
3am we were woken by the AC in the room coming on full blast. I realise reading other reviews this happens and has not been solved. We had 4 uncomfortable nights in an overly heated dry room. Both of us were noticing how badly this affected our eyes and nasal passages - we both had blood streaks when we blew our noses by the time we left.
We went to do our laundry using the guest services which needed $3 cash, I only had $20 from the ATM, staff at reception said they could not give us change. Baffling.
Cleaning staff helpful, bed was ok but the plastic sheet meant you woke up in the night uncomfortably hot.
Not only would I never stay here again, nor would I recommend it, I would never want to work or be associated with a business who treat paying customers so badly.

So this hotel was selected for us by Rocky Mountaineer to substitute for the days we were supposed to be in Jasper before their devastating fires. So, maybe the late booking left them (Rocky Mountaineer) with few choices in Banff but we ended up with a less than adequate hotel room. The room was very nice, clean and the bathroom was good. The location, right on main street was perfect. What was not so good was the room is very small, absolutely nothing to set down your luggage for unpacking except the bed or arm chair. We had two very large bags and were only in this room for two nights so complete unpacking was not practical but having nowhere to set up the luggage coupled with this very small room made it a very poor, difficult stay. Could not set the luggage on the "desk" as this piece of furniture is about 12" deep and you sit (literally) on a log to use this tiny useless desk. This room may be good for a single person with carry on luggage but definitely not for two fully loaded for 9 days. Most hotels include a luggage rack in the closet, this one where we would need two had none. On top of everything else the train arrived in Banff very late in the day. This very basic room was just about as far from the lobby as possible and the elevator brings you to a level in the main hotel building that is not at the same level as the section in what I think they call the Cascade section. We had to lug our very heavy bags down several steps to get to our room. We figured out later there is a contraption attached to the wall at these stairs, similar to a stair lift that was probably there to help bring your luggage up and down these steps.
Again, nice hotel, comfortable bed, clean but very spartan and unaccommodating. Staff was friendly and efficient and we did not complain about the room because we didn't book it, Rocky Mountaineer did. We did ask if there was an easier entrance to this wing of the hotel but there is not. If we were staying more than two nights we would have definitely looked for alternative accommodations either with Mount Royal of another property.

I found the hotel to be rather disappointing based on my expectations from other reviews and the hotel website. I’d reserved a centennial view room and was assigned room 308 which overlooked the hotel’s physical plant and parking lot. Though the mountains were in the background it was hard to get over the physical plant sitting right outside the bedroom window. The room was small and combined with the view, I honestly thought I’d been given the wrong room category, but nope, it was correct. The receptionist had no other rooms available to switch which was fine, but she was certainly lacking in the friendly customer service department. The bedroom was dark and the lamps offered little light at night. The tv remote was taped together so the batteries wouldn’t fall out, and it was a daily fight to open and close the room door which was stiff. Overall, the hotel seemed like it needed a refresh.
However, the hotel is in a prime location and parking is convenient . Banff avenue can get noisy and busy at night so I can see where rooms at the front of the hotel may experience street noise. There are also some bars located at one end of the hotel. I guess it’s balancing location with the possibility of street noise. The rear of the hotel is obviously quieter.
The hotel has a nice bar and restaurant, Brazen. While we did not eat there we did enjoy happy hour one afternoon. A lady bar tender was amazing as she prepared cocktails at break neck speed. Can’t believe how she managed orders all by herself.
I would not stay here on a future visit to Banff.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Hotel is placed right amongst Banff Avenue and we had a fantastic view from our room of the avenue and the surrounding mountains.
Due to its location, it was extremely convenient to be able to step out of the doors and immediately into everything on offer from shops, restaurants and hikes.
The rooom was spacious, clean and staff were excellent.
While the hotel does advise that parking is available but not guaranteed, we had no issues and were able to park on each day of our three day stay. The car park didn't fill up during our stay so parking wouldn't have been an issue.
Would love to visit again.

We stayed at Mount Royal this past weekend and it was an amazing location. The front desk staff were so nice and welcoming. The room was clean but the hotel is older and there are some stains on the carpet in the rooms and things but I always figure as long as it is clean I can deal with things. We didn't have any issues with noise like some others have commented on. We will definitely stay here again.
