Nice location, pleasant staff

Nice hotel on Cannery Row with an great view overlooking Coast Guard Pier and the small boat anchorage. Walk to Fisherman's Wharf and downtown Monterey. No on-site restaurant if that's important to you but they do offer a complementary continental breakfast. In room coffee needs an upgrade.

But, overall a great value for a hotel room in a popular location.

All the amenities of the slightly more upscale Monterey Plaza, right next-door, but more intimate and less corporate feeling. Also slightly lower prices. And, their breakfast delivery service to your room is amazing. The fruit is always top-notch, and the bakery items are surprisingly fresh and delicious. I highly recommend this Monterey Bay Inn.

The Monterey Bay Inn is in a great location and has walking paths in both directions that allow you to enjoy the coast line. I liked the breakfast delivered to the room each day and the on site parking. The rooms are a bit tired looking and could do with a refurb. Also, be aware that you will hear seals barking (sometimes all night long).

What a great location this hotel has. Right next to the beach and overlooking the wharf and out to sea. While we were there hundreds of sea lions had arrived on the beach and they were fascinating to watch from our balcony. We stayed here for 2 nights and upgraded our room to a full sea view room on the 4th floor. The room was huge with a lovely balcony. It had 2 arm chairs which is so rare in hotel rooms. The bathroom was large and the products supplied were lovely. We enjoyed the continental breakfast which was included in the price. It was delivered to your door at your chosen time. The fruit and pastries were fresh and delicious and the drinks, boiled eggs and yoghurt as you would expect. The only reason we don't give 5 stars is the lack of a bar or even vending machines and the public corridors do look a little tired in places

We love this hotel. Accommodations were amazing however, upon check in, the front desk clerk Foustina (i think that was her name: blonde, full lashes), She was extremely rude. She was also wearing this god awful mask with like a Halloween character on it. I don’t mind people wearing masks but let’s keep it work appropriate. She needs customer service training. We Still love the hotel & location and will return.

Monterey Bay Inn was truly wonderful. This hotel is in absolutely the best location. It is literally a couple minute walk to the Coast Guard Pier where you can find lots of sea otter and sea lions. We stopped there for long periods of time photographing and watching these wonderful animals. Mama and baby otter gave us quite the show swimming back and forth. Right next to the pier is a fabulous Italian restaurant: Osteria Del Mare. It is very close walking distance to Cannery Row and other great restaurants such as Fish Hopper. You can walk along the coast and watch the beautiful ocean views or rent bikes or drive. The scenery is breathtaking.
We got a room with partial view of ocean and private balcony. Honestly this was better than getting a full view of the ocean because our room also looked out onto the pier. The hotel offers free room service breakfast which you order the night before. We slept with our french doors open and heard the waves all night. In the morning we had breakfast in bed while watching the pier and listening to all the sea lions. It was perfect. The staff was extremely friendly.
The only thing I would say is that the pull out couch looked very raggedy and it was not comfortable at all. Some of the furniture looked a little rough. It seems like part of the hotel is very modern, new and fancy and other parts (like the furniture) are very worn. It's like they updated some things but not other things. Still, I would highly recommend as long as you aren't planning to sleep on the pull out couch.

This was our first time here . We usually stay at The Portola . We wanted to try a new hotel that was closer to cannery row and had ocean views . The young man that greeted us at the check in was very courteous and professional . He really set the tone for our stay . We were granted a high floor , as requested . I did pay for an ocean view w/balcony. I have to say it was a beautiful view , but not full ocean view, I had a street view as well which was disappointing . The room was very spacious and very clean . The bathroom was very spacious and clean . They are definitely in need of better lighting and updates . I do love that the toilet is separate . We had a fridge with complimentary waters which we appreciated . Continental breakfast was included and very convenient . It’s brought to your room so you can enjoy in bed or on your balcony . LOVED THIS! It’s not a lot of food, but it’s good enough to get your day started pastries and fruit were very fresh . My only complaint is the coffee. It was not very good. But again , it was so convenient and nice to have brought up to your room. The 4th floor jacuzzi had magnificent views of the bay ! Perfect place ! Please add another one ! We hope to return soon !

Was a great experience, front desk really took care of us in a pinch. Last minute booking as we were traveling Pacific Coast Hwy. Got room with balcony on Waterside (room 415). Very roomy, fireplace, large space and got to hear the waves and SEA LIONs all night while they played at Coast Guard station. Never seen so many. Awesome location, covered parking, etc
Only negative is their “complimentary breakfast”. IMO, either improve or remove. The quality does not match the quality of building and staff. Waterfront rooms are alot more expensive but I would not stay here without it.
Besides that, it was perfect. No joke!

You can't fault the location; easy walk to the Wharf & Cannery Row. Parking ($25), a friendly welcome, a clean room, comfy bed & a sea view & it should be great.
The whole place is tired & long overdue for refurb. Musty smell in the room, no restaurant, no bar, no aircon (!), not even any vending machines. Breakfast is a choice from four cold options brought to your room.
Lots of noise from early flights out of the nearly airport.
One thing you'll either love or hate - the seals chatter & call to each other along the seashore all night long!

The customer service was amazing. They found out we were celebrating my husband's birthday and sent champagne and chocolate to the room. I forgot to hang the breakfast order on the door by midnight so I texted the number they had given me and they sent someone up to get it at around 1:00 AM. Whoever trains the staff on customer service should train the entire hotel industry.
Our room was beautiful. I always wear socks in hotel rooms because sometimes carpet isn't cleaned that often. I was shocked that my white socks were still perfectly white after wearing them several evenings. Housekeeping was amazing!
The view was spectacular and the sound of the waves was perfect! A perfect four day getaway. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed here in an ocean front room for New Years get away. It was a second time here.
What I love, location! Walking to Cannery Row, Aquarium, Wharf, downtown. You cannot beat this location. It sits right on the main path to all areas. We watched the seals and sea otters right from our balcony! They provide handy binoculars to see even more. Plenty of restaurants and coffee places near by. The hotel delivers a very nice continental breakfast that we loved. Bed was very comfortable, good linens and towels. Bathroom was roomy with a double sink. Very good shower pressure! Overall a beautiful places to stay and a bargain if you are looking to stay right on the water (note, this is compared to other hotels right on the water).
What could be better: they charge $25 for parking, I didn’t realize this and might have parked elsewhere, when paying $500 for a room, I’d expect parking to be included. The common area bathrooms should be updated, very old.
Other: We didn’t use the hot tub, but one on site, so bring a bathing suit.

Good location on Cannery Row right on the Pacific Ocean. Decent hotel, comfy bed, large bathroom, clean. The delivered continental breakfast-yogurt, fruit, muffins, coffee, juice, hard boiled eggs-was fine. Not fancy but liked the delivery! Nice balcony overlooking the beach and within listening to crashing ways. Did the trick.

Cute hotel on the water in Monterey. We enjoyed watching the otters and hearing the ocean waves all night. The bed was comfy and the delivered cold breakfast was fine. We walked to Osteria al Mare and brought our food back to the room for a pleasant oceanfront dining experience. One suggestion- provide a couple bottles of water because the tap water tastes really bad! we asked for water and they charged us $2.50, come on when you’re paying $500 for a room give us some drinking water.
