The welcome from Ken was really friendly and he guided us through the facilities thoroughly. The location is superb.....we could walk to the beach, the harbour and all the shops and restaurants in minutes. After a day of exploring the area the pool was a welcome place to relax and refresh.
The room had EVERYTHING we could possibly need including a great hairdryer....so often lacking in other places we have stayed in.
The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean; the shower had great pressure and there was plenty of hot water.
We would not hesitate in recommending this gem of a hotel to friends and family.....it really was a superb find.

The warm welcome we received upon arrival set the tone for a fabulous four days in Port Douglas. Interim hosts, Barbara and Ken, showed a genuine interest in us as travelers. They eagerly shared their in-depth knowledge of the area and the Port Douglas amenities. We found their recommendations were spot on! These two know how to deliver exceptional hospitality.
The property is conveniently located near the end of the Port Douglas CBD strip. It was an easy walk downtown and to the beach. The rooms were absolutely clean and well-equipped and the one-bedroom apartment provided us with the perfect amount of space. The facility is quiet and the bedrooms cool and dark: A great receipt for restful sleep. The property’s lush garden setting and pool area provided a great social space. It was easy to meet other travelers and learn from them.
All around our Port Douglas visit was enhanced because of our choice of the Martinique. Many thanks to relief managers Barbara and Ken for the added personal attention!

We had initially planned to stay here in 2020 and then Covid happened. The hotel had been recommended to us by friends who had stayed there previously.
In all our interactions with Ken from 2020 until we were finally able to visit Port Douglas he had always been so friendly whilst being professional.
The hotel is very close to the 4 mile beach on one side and all the shops and restaurants on the other.
We stayed in room 14 which was 2 floors up. It was spotless and very comfortable and had everything we needed for our short stay.
Our major regret was not timetabling our holiday to spend more days here. Each day we had there was filled with tours which, incidentally, Ken booked for us. So we never got to chill by the pool. Maybe next time because we would have no hesitation in staying here again.

The lush tropical gardens add a gorgeous luxury element to the overall experience, and the hosts are friendly, attentive and so helpful.
A delightful holiday stay!

Disappointed in the Martinique Pt Douglas experience
We found the resort rather dated throughout, disappointing considering the price for “blending luxurious comfort, a range of impressive facilities…” that include generic Anco (Kmart) brand microwave, hair dryer, cutlery and crockery, plus a Coles brand handwash in the bathroom (hardly luxury). The Bar fridge that didn’t even keep an individual ice-cream frozen. We were advised that’s ‘normal’ for a bar fridge!
The floor surfaces weren’t particularly clean, with somewhat grotty bathroom tiles!
The office manager was friendly but the facilities manager was disbelieving and condescending when I tried to explain a minor shower leak. He could not identify it, so I took photos which he bluntly declined to view.
Our L1 apartment was sometimes not at all “peaceful” when people were directly below our room were chatting around the reception, BBQ and outdoor dining facilities. The BBQ was rather aromatic when in use and we needed to close the windows to prevent our apartment from smelling of BBQ odors or to block noise. Yes, noise happens but we shouldn’t have been located in this room when we specifically asked for a quiet room!
The “comfortable” lounge was quite hard as were the cushions.
On a positive note, it is in a good location to walk the beach and restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops on Macrossan Street being the main tourist strip.

We have just returned from here and can attest that the hosts Colin and Ken ( only alphabetical not preference ) were wonderful.
Comfortable apartment with plenty of room.
Beautiful garden and pool.
Turn left and 50m to the beach.
Turn right and it’s all there.
A great location for everything but at the quite end.
Appreciated all their local knowledge and the ice maker downstairs.
You really do have to book restaurants in advance.
Thanks to you both.

Our stay at Martinique coincided with tropical cyclone Jasper and the owners did all they could to make us feel safe and well looked after. We can’t thank them enough. We are particularly grateful to them for checking transport options to the airport and persisting with enquiries when they couldn’t get an answer from taxi or shuttle bus companies that had closed due to the storm. In the run up to the cyclone we enjoyed the peace and calm of the lovely swimming pool and well tended gardens. It was great to be in the heart of Port Douglas, just minutes away from the beach and restaurants, but enjoying peace and quiet. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had everything we needed. If we go back to Port Douglas, we’d love to stay again at Martinique. Definitely a choice you won’t regret.

Wow we totally agree with recent review by Drurolnz. We must have had same apartment?! We booked our apartment on reviews on Tripadvisor but what a huge disappointment it turned out to be. We just cant believe how they get so many 5's and it does make you suspicious.
Good points: Comfortable bed & convenient location and that's where the positives end.
Bad Points: Tiny apartment with dated furniture. A ridiculously small TV in lounge only. Very small bathroom. Kitchen was just nasty & greasy with a very small fridge and poorly equipped. The whole apartment is so outdated. You sink into the lounge and have trouble getting out. The TV - well its just farcical - the smallest we've seen in 30 years and its almost impossible to watch in bed as it is supposed to be able to be turned around in a gap in the lounge wall. Very small bathroom. Car parking spaces also very small especially for those guests with 4 wheel drives - pretty normal in North Qld. Tiny balcony with no privacy at all and you could hear everyone's conversation on other balconies as no partitioning or privacy screens between the numerous balconies.
I dont think we are overly fussy but cleanliness, presentation and comfort paramount. We enjoyed Port Douglas visit but so glad to leave Martinique on Macrossan and head to somewhere more pleasant to stay. Maybe we just got the worst apartment in the building?? Oh & I mustn't forget the endless leaf blower going at 7am in the morning which another couple also complained about to us while we were there. We even heard someone in the next door building shout out to the owner to stop using so early as he had been woken up 2 mornings in a row. Surely it could wait til 9am and perhaps the hours between 7am-9am would be better spent cleaning units &/or updating them??

This may well be the place where your parents came for their honeymoon? We knew about the absence of a lift and non-serviced, but sadly there were a lot of other modern facilities absent at the Martinique. Our apartment had an overall grubby/grimy feeling about it and it was dark and dingy. A small old kitchen with no dishwasher and the bare minimum of cleaning items to wash and clean. Four wine glasses; no 2 the same! A fruit bowl with the plastic bunch of grapes I last saw in 1974- are you getting the picture?. I don’t think you could buy a cheaper television and microwave from Kmart. I think you would be provided with more bathroom amenities at a refugee facility on Manus Island than we were given for our 3 day stay. The coin operated laundry in the basement completed the austere and mean spirited theme of the place. The pool was more like a fish pond- small and unappealing
Clearly the place is well patronised but there has been very little reinvestment and I fail to understand why there is no attempt to modernise and keep the place up to date. Why there are so many positive reviews of the Martinique puzzles me. I had to submit this review 4 times before it was taken up by Tripadvisor- I have my own suspicions!
Sadly all accomodation looks great on the internet and the Martinique is no exception. This place represents very poor value for money and in my view a dump- stay elsewhere!
