The hotel's beautiful architecture, the gorgeous Bar George restaurant and bar, and the central location (we could walk to the Bell Centre for the 4 Nations games) were all pluses for our 2-day stay. But the key to our visit was the friendly, professional staff, including the concierge team, who thankfully contacted us in advance to ask if we had made dinner reservations for our trip. We hadn't, and downtown Montreal was busy with hockey and Valentine's that weekend. They made reservations for us at Bar George for Valentine's dinner and Pois Penché, a fantastic local bistro with great food, atmosphere and service, for an early dinner before the hockey game. Our guest room was spotless, and we enjoyed the heated bathroom floors (missing at Toronto's Royal York and the King Eddy hotels). After the hockey game, we dropped into the hotel bar and got seated when we mentioned we were hotel guests, even though there was a lineup to get in. Outstanding level of service in the bar, too. We hope to return to Le Mount Stephen in the spring/summer!

An all around amazing stay. The accommodations are great and the staff are outstanding. The hotel is also ideally located downtown to explore all that the city has to offer. If you are visiting Montreal, look no further than Le Mount Stephen.

Excellent hotel that is the very best of service and quality of accommodation let down by poor service and questionable cleanliness of its adjoining bar. 5 for the hotel, 1 for the bar. Stay and enjoy just don’t eat & drink. (Room service excluded!)

We have absolutely enjoyed our 8 Nights stay in Le Mount Stephen Hotel
We originally were only planning to stay 5 Nights but decided to extend and just stay with them for the rest of our Montreal Trip
Room Amenities were excellent and our favorite is the Japanese Toto Hotels which is one of the reason why we chose them too
After being in Japan and experiencing the Toto ones, you can never have anything better
Their Rain Shower was phenomenal as well
We also got to try dining at Bar George
But what sets them apart from most hotels are the Staff
Friendly, helpful, approachable and have always greeted us with smile every single time
We have felt so welcomed from the moment we checked in to the time we checked out
I highly highly recommend them and if you’re thinking about it, no questions asked, go for their Suite Rooms 😁
Thank you Le Mount Stephen and we appreciate the Christmas Surprise we go yesterday
We hope to come back and stay with you again in the future!

We really enjoyed our stay Le Mount Stephen. The beautiful stone mansion has been converted to a very modern hotel with full amenities. The staff and service is top notch. The concierge will go out of his way to get you a table at a very hard to get into restaurant and the housekeeping staff kept the room immaculate. The room size was quite generous and we loved that all the drapes opened and closed electronically. The location is very convenient and we were able to walk to most places we wanted to sightsee. We will definitely return.

A magical weekend stay at Le Mount Stephen
A wonderful experience at a fabulous hotel in Montreal. The staff are superb and extremely accommodating and our room was amazing. We visited for our 50th anniversary celebration and had a great suite on two levels - highly recommend the suites. This is an amazing hotel with a great location.
Great Hotel in Central Montreal
An absolutely spectacular hotel right in the heart of Montreal. The staff is professional, extremely friendly, and highly knowledgable. An absolutely spectacular hotel right in the heart of Montreal. The staff is professional, extremely friendly, and highly knowledgable. William the concierge is an encyclopedia of where everything is in Montreal and what's currently happening.
The breakfast was also great--the omelette was juicy and the best we've ever had. Our room was open, spotlessly clean, and high tech. It takes a bit to playing with the lighting system to learn how it works, but other than that, everything in the room was wonderful.
The dining room is like no other you've ever seen. The woodwork was unbelievably detailed and highlighted the skills of the craftsmen who build the old part of the building (originally built by the CEO of the Canadian Northern railroad). The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Centre Bell and several great restaurants are nearby. If you want a stay in central Montreal, this is the place to stay. You won't find anything as nice or as charming.

If you have ever watched the episodes of the Simpsons where the family moves into an automated house you may know what to expect before booking this hotel. We battled the various automated keypads over our 5 day stay. For example: If you hit the wrong button you could end up in pitch darkness in the middle of the room. The lights all should have been controlled by the bedside. Beware the Bidet/toilet unless you are use to using one. There are no guidelines in the room in using these devices and there are no simple on/off switches. The small windows in the room were very disappointing and a little claustrophobic. The maid missed cleaning the room and stocking the fridge one day even though we told her we would be leaving in 15 minutes and we didn’t return until the evening. The hotel is attached to a beautiful historic building that houses a very busy restaurant but it is totally detached in its design. We had a delicious meal at the restaurant but the acoustics were so bad that we could not hear each other across our small table. Make sure to get reservations as there are usually line-ups out the front door which is also the only door to access the hotel. We will return to Montreal as it remains one of our favourite places to visit, but we will not stay at Le Mount Stephen. Fighting with the automation was funny the first day, but we were not able to get a handle on it.

The main beautiful antique victorian building is only the front of the hotel. The restaurant is there, but that is it. No rooms to stay are actually located in the building which they have all of the stunning pictures of. The *actual* hotel is the giant concrete building behind it with miniature windows in every room. We had to pay an additional $100 so that the view from our tiny window collage was more than the brick wall of the building next to us. We were in a rush when we checked in, and asked to drop our bags off. The room was not ready which was fine, but because we did not tip the bag person (as they did not drop off our bags because the room was not ready), when we returned after our tour our bags were lost! Including our passports and coats. After about 20 minutes of phone calls and speaking with the manager, our luggage and passports had apparently been put in the storage room. We eventually got our luggage and slept. I have no idea why the high reviews for such an expensive hotel where the service was mediocre and the rooms have miniature windows. Would not recommend.

Mount Stephen and Bar George are our favorite spots in Montreal. We have stayed at others well known hotels in the area over the years but since discovering it 3 years ago, it has become our go to hotel when visiting Montreal. No need to search and compare for us anymore. We love the old world vibe of the hotel and the modern bedrooms checks all the boxes and amenities. The warm bathroom floor is a very nice touch. The service is outstanding, they will even hold your table in the bar as it is very popular. We will definitely go back next June.

We stayed at the Mount Stephen for three wonderful nights in May. The hotel is in a great location an easy walk to the Metro and shopping. The property blends old world elegance and modern sophistication in equal measure. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with premium bedding and modern amenities. The staff is super friendly, and every night they rang our doorbell (yes the rooms have door chimes) to offer ice water, turn down service, and chocolates. For a glass of Bordeaux or a sophisticated cocktail head down to the beautiful Bar George which draws a lively local crowd on weekends. Loved every minute. We will be back!

Absolutely stunning property! This luxurious boutique hotel is a perfect marriage of historic charm and cutting-edge modern comfort. The high-tech bedrooms and bathrooms are sleek and state-of-the-art, yet the hotel is housed within a magnificently preserved mansion full of character. We were fortunate to have the concierge take us on a tour of the mansion, which has been beautifully maintained. The contrast between the historic architecture and contemporary design are truly impressive. The dining room and bar are gorgeous, and the staff were excellent throughout our stay. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
