We returned to Canary Hotel for the first time in 4 years. We were very impressed by the renovation which was a nice upgrade yet kept the original charm. The lobby was beautiful and we really enjoyed the open concept with the restaurant - made it very welcoming. The room was phenomenal - great bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower, lovely views, clean, spacious. Casting to the TV a plus too. The staff all go above and beyond, always in a cheerful mood, smiling and greeting you at every turn. Chloe checked us in and was nothing short of charming and friendly. She also noticed when we would return and ensured she constantly welcomed us back. Hermelinda, Acalea, and Daniella in housekeeping were friendly and treated us with care. Sal and Forest both assisted us with our In Room Dinning order and ensured we were well cared for. Lastly, the Manager at the Front Desk Edwin was exceptional and managed the desk and areas accordingly. He was engaging, fun yet always keeping it professional. Canary is a very special place and at the heart of it you will find a great group of people that take pride in what they do and do it well. We look forward to our next visit soon.

The Canary was a beautiful property located in Santa Barbara. Our room was a corner king with a stunning view of downtown and beyond. The location was perfect. Unfortunately, the room was not clean (significant dust, hair, and a fingernail) even though we had to wait to check in. There was also confusion surrounding the $10 food and beverage credit that is part of the daily resort fee. We were not given that when we asked at check out. I've had great experiences at other Kimpton hotels, and sadly this one did not measure up.

We found the Kimpton Canary Hotel to be a very inviting place to stay. The staff were all very personable and efficient. The room was spacious, everything in good order, and exceptionally clean. The bed was large and comfortable. There was a very large amount of drawers and storage, much more than the two of us needed. We enjoyed our short stay and felt it was worth the splurge in price.

First of all CHLOE was the sweetest person I have ever met at a hotel. Worth her weight in gold I don’t care what they pay her she needs a raise. She single handedly made our experience amazing. She helped make the weekend I propose to my girlfriend perfect. The room was obviously amazing. Everything was very high quality but I am forever impressed by the wonderful staff.

We booked a balcony room expecting to open the doors and enjoy the weather and scenery. But, our room was on a busy corner, across the street from a gas station and very near an active Fire Department. We never opened the doors. It would have been nice to have a night light in the bathroom, makeup mirror, a walk-in shower rather than a tub and a robe to wear to the pool. Housekeeping skipped our room, requiring a call. In the absence of a concierge it would have been helpful to see a list of recommended nearby restaurants and special attractions. Suggestions from the Front Desk were hit and miss. Although the mariachi music in the lobby from a wedding was festive and fun, it was also deafening. We invited friends for drinks and dinner and literally could not hear each other while it lasted. Staff were friendly and the hotel was clean. Location near State Street is excellent. At $800+ a night the value was not there.

Absolutely NOT worth the prize

This is a decent and average stay, but absolutely NOT worth its prize. “Kimpton” is just a name added to the listing, not a signal of a quality hotel. Its 4.5 rating is very very generous. For $500/night you’d expect at least drinkable water for guests; if you’re thirsty you’re charged $10 for a water bottle. I won’t even go into the wishful idea of a minibar. I paid a for a “balcony suite” expecting to have some outdoor space but it’s literally a door that looks into the outside… of the parking lot. (See photo) And finally, the amount of noise in the hotel is insane; I called the front desk every night to report parties in nearby rooms from people who have weddings or events at the hotel. Every morning we were awoken by banging coming from the roof. I felt cheated into a splurgy and special stay and got a Courtyard with nicer furniture (absolutely no shade to Courtyard; on the contrary). Kimpton is just the latest brand to absolutely downgrade its properties post-Covid, turning into an almost self-service hotel without adjusting it’s prizes.

Used an IHG free night certificate to book one night at this cool hotel located a half-block from State Street in the heart of Santa Barbara's theatre/restaurant/retail district. Overnight parking is quite expensive, valet-only so we took full advantage of the location by walking everywhere. If you intend to spend most of your time at the beach or wharf area, you may prefer other hotel locations but for us, this was perfect. We had booked a standard room but due to Platinum status we were upgraded to a suite. Very nice. See photos to see stylish furnishings, a charming arched wall treatment, and nice tile-work in the large bathroom. The view from the room included a peak at the mountains and the Moorish-style tile decoration at the hotel's porte cochere. The hotel has a small rooftop pool with nice views of the surrounding city. There is also an afternoon happy hour with free wine pours. The staff was uniformly efficient and polite.

Twenty years ago, we confessed our love for each other in a similar style hotel in Antigua Guatemala. The Spanish tile, rod iron weather vanes and balconies, the blazing sunsets from the roof deck pool, the four poster wicked canopy bed and the central plaza with fountains trickling next to the magenta buganvillas pouring over stucco walls made our twenty year anniversary all the more reminiscent and magical! The Frette linen and the feathery pillows are as akin to heavenly bliss as I can imagine living on earth! Get the room with a bathtub and a shower as each are experiences to sooth the senses. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash are fragrant of geranium, Liliac and sandalwood. The pool on the roof will whisper to you even when you are at the beach that there is a calm sanctuary waiting for your to return. The Concierge and valet parking attendants are helpful for planning adventures with their bikes and helmets. We had dinner with our feet in the sand looking at the sunset on the water thanks to a tip from a valet. The leaderbetter beach has this kind of restaurant right on the beach front. The personnel are kind, down to earth and generous. We will return for our next anniversary celebration!

We stayed at the Kimpton Canary last week for 2 nights. A return trip, we held our wedding dinner at the Finch and Fork here last year, and are fans of the hotel / IHG (having stayed at a sister resort in Polynesia last year) To date we have always been delighted with the quality of service inc concierge (Hunter gets a shout out for being especially engaging), hospitality and the delicious food. The rooftop pool is a bonus if you are ok with it being 3 feet shallow. It is an elegant hotel in an excellent location. That being said, we were disappointed with several things during our stay: • Room: we were initially put in a corner room one floor directly above the street which was noisy. This was disappointing for an IHG gold member and shows little foresight in terms of the advance selection – membership axis. However we were swiftly moved to another room on the 4th floor which was considerably better /quieter. • Parking: the hotel charges 50USD/night for concierge parking, whereas the car park literally 3 meters aways charges 33USD/night. It always has plenty of space, so why not just park there? • Water in the room was not complimentary and we only realised afterwards that it was 10USD/bottle (less than 1 litre). Seriously?! • There is no coffee machine in the room – you have to request it. As with buses, one turned up 15 minutes later, a second at midday the next day! C’mon Kimpton, this is an easy fix. Every hotel has these as standard. Don’t be cheap. • Maid service is not great: the staff did not clear away used coffee cups, nor did they replenish the water. We are happy to pay for quality but at 700USD/night, we expect a more from Kimpton, particularly with respect to their desire to overcharge / ripoff guests for various services which is a shame, frankly.

I wish I had better things to say about this hotel, but I found it overpriced for what it offered and also, at times, downright annoying. The pros: - Great restaurant and bar - friendly staff (except for the valets at the entrance who barely acknowledged us). - Great location. The cons: - We felt nickle-and-dimed at every turn. Valet parking is $48/day (the lot next door is $33/day so we opted for that). Bottled water in the room was $10/bottle. For a room that cost $700/night, we would have expected better - There were no amenities in the room. You had to request literally everything - coffee maker, robes, slippers, a decent hairdryer. Again, at the price point of this hotel, we would have expected some more class. - The cleaning staff did the bare minimum. When we returned to our room, the bed had been made, but our dirty coffee cups and water glasses were where we had left them, as were the empty water bottles. Very sub-par. The annoying: I went up to use the pool on the rooftop in the morning, only to find there was a massive photo shoot going on that completely took away from the ambience. I didn’t come here so Instagrammers could disrupt my morning. We love Santa Barbara, but unfortunately will likely not stay at this hotel again when we return next.

This is a beautiful hotel, both inside and out and the rooftop/rooftop pool are quite nice. However, neither the rooms nor the service fit the extremely high prices. Amenities are noting special and it's ridiculous that there is no coffee/tea service in the room (who wants to go to the lobby early for coffee/tea even if free). Rooms can be cold and drafty, too. I can see being here if you have a special group event like a wedding, but otherwise I would consider other places.

Love this hotel. Excellent location with just a few minutes walk to State street shopping, eateries and wine tasting establishments. Hotel has valet parking but also a downtown structure right next door with alley access. Beautiful spacious lobby with a bar and restaurant at one end. Coffee and tea station pretty much all day. Rooms are well appointed and the bed was amazing. West facing rooms above floor 4 have peek ocean views. Guest access to gym next door. Dog friendly. But best of all - the staff are super nice and efficient. Will be back.
