We just returned from 4 incredible weeks at Iberostar Waves Cozumel and we can't say enough good things about the resort and the staff who make it so special.
The resort itself is very relaxed, exactly what we wanted from our vacation. The way the resort is built is incredible - there is no structure on site that is more than 2 stories tall. What this means is that everything they have built remains below the height of the trees. As a result, Iberostar has been able to leave a lot of the native trees and plants in place creating an incredible environment for the guests. This also allowed for some great wildlife encounters on the property - coati and iguana are everywhere, and we also encountered pygmy raccoons, agouti, peccaries, geckos, frogs, and all kinds of birds, including hummingbirds. This is all as part of the Iberostar Wave of Change commitment to preserving the environment that shows through in so many ways. An exceptional example, on one of our last days we saw notes had been inserted in the restaurant menus indicating that within a range of dates in the spring they would not be serving any dishes with lobster as it was mating season for lobster and they did not want to support fishing for lobster during mating season - we were both surprised and impressed.
To be clear how pleased we were with the resort, we only left the property 3 times in 28 days. Twice to go into town and explore a bit more of what Cozumel had to offer and once for an excursion. Other than those 3 days we spent our entire stay on the Iberostar property relaxing, reading, swimming and diving. One main reason for this is that the staff on site took such good care of us. Everyone was great, but we want to call out some by name who helped to make our stay exceptional:
In the Food and Beverage team:
Maria - Maria is a fixture in this resort - for 4 hours every afternoon she makes fresh tortillas, tacos, and quesadillas as part of the lunch service - everyone who enjoys her cooking can taste the love that goes into it
Elisandra & Andrea - of all of the wait staff, these two ladies seemed to always be there for us with smiles on their faces - Eli definitely helped me with my Spanish, I hope I did as much to help with her English
Armando, Raymundo, and Francisco - these are three amazing bartenders that we had the chance to interact with throughout our stay - Armando makes the best orange margaritas ever, if you like margaritas, make a point of tracking him down
Roberto - this is one of the most engaged managers we have ever run into in a resort like this - Roberto was always rolling up his sleeves and jumping in to help the team anything from clearing tables to jumping behind the bar to to make drinks when things were busy
Groundskeeping:
Jose - the whole team was incredible as one look around this resort will show you, but we wanted to single out Jose who does such a good job looking after all of the birds that live at Iberostar
Front Desk / Lobby:
Juan Carlos - again the team is great, but Juan Carlos stood out for us and was always there for anything we needed
Entertainment Staff:
Elyhut (sorry, I'm sure I butchered the spelling) runs a great entertainment team that is always hopping. Jerry, Muncey, Humberto and the Mexican Freddie Mercury were always running around keeping everyone as active as they wanted to be.
Finally, for all you ocean fanatics out there, I can't say enough about the team at the on-site Dressel Divers - in total, 17 dives, 2 new certifications, and a great snorkeling trip. On arrival Eva and Lauren help me get all of that squared away asap and Eva finished my Eniched Air (Nitrox) certification. I got the chance to join dives led by Marwan, Juani (who finished my Drift Diver certification), Kris, Carmina, Valentin, and Tania. Every one of these amazing divers brought something special to our dives and I had unforgettable experiences during my time with them. A special shout out to Carmina who worked with me quite a bit to improve my bouyancy and trim. We also want to thank Allen who led our snorkeling trip and made it an amazing experience for both of us.
About the only thing I would suggest is if they could find a way to fit a cozy chair or small couch in the rooms that would make quiet evenings in the room a bit more comfortable.
This is a resort that, at least for us, can't be beat. We will definitely be back.

The entire staff here work incredibly hard and take pride in their work. They want you to have an amazing vacation. The entertainment team treats every guest like a new friend. Azael, Gerry, Monse, and Humberto (regular sexy) kept the mood light and fun all day. The live singers all did a great job! Abner-what a voice! The bar staff are all very professional. Adrian and Enrique were quick and efficient in the pool bar, which was always busy. The dining staff were friendly and attentive. Victor even remembered us (and what we drink) when we saw him in town on his night off. The taco stand every day at lunch was a highlight. Maria makes the most delicious tortillas and always has a smile! There are no words to describe the beauty of the property. Each guest room opens into a tropical paradise full of color. We love the convenience of having the dive shop on sight. This is one of our favorite vacation destinations.

The Hotel Staff gave 5 Star service although they were sometimes understaffed. Most noteable the hard working Animation / Entertainment Team, who were very professional. The Evening shows at the Theatre were amazing. On the Animation team we would especially appreciate all the work they did day and night. We would love to mention Gerardo, Umberto and Azza here.
The rooms were very pleasant, although in some areas quite noisy. The Reception staff were very, very helpful. For example ordering Medication from a pharmacy (from maintown) in just 1 hour and even no excessive charges. Thanks to Kenia (yeah that's her Name) again.
If you're looking for a peaceful more quiet stay, then you may struggle a little.

wildlife roaming around peacocks, flamingos, coaties and more. The rooms are clean and have everything you need not large but who vacations in their room? We were section 51 which was perfect short walk to everything. We are not divers so cannot comment on that but there were lots of people who were. This is a smaller resort, no disco but nightly entertainment which is excellent, The entertainment staff are the best they are very talented and work extremely hard to make sure everyone is having a great time. Food and drinks were very good. We tried the Mexican and Oriental a la cartes which were both good and always lots to choose from at the buffet. Different themes each night. BBQ and buffet at pool/beach also had lots of variety. All in all this is a great spot to vacation and the weather was fantastic.
We would definitely return a second time! Thanks for a great vacation Ibrrostar Waves Cozumel

Iberostar Cozumel is great for scuba divers as there is a dive shop on property. They are fairly priced for the area. My only complaint would be that one of our dive days we had 8 divers to one divemaster which I thought was inappropriate given the skill level of the divers. I think 6:1 is a better, safer ratio. But the divemasters were great (shoutout to Marwan) and the equipment was great as well, although I would definitely bring my own fins. I have yet to come across a dive shop that has decent fin rentals.
The landscaping and decor is outstanding. There are peacocks, flamingos and little furry friends on the grounds but they stay out of your way. The pool area was very nice and never felt crowded.
I've seen reviews of people complaining about the food here. If you are a picky eater, don't stay at an all inclusive. We have stayed at AI's before and thought the food was very above average. The buffets were very good. The dinner buffet themes rotate and we thought the American themed night was great. The stand alone restaurants weren't the best though. We wish we had eaten at the buffets every night for dinner. The Asian place was ok but they used linguine for the pad thai which made us laugh. The Mexican place was ok but they only have one non-spicy option among the main entrees. The smokehouse was the best out of the standalone restaurants. The meats were great and there was a lot of variety. Drinks did seem watered down everywhere but that seems to be the case at all all-inclusives.
The entertainment was great. They have a lot of fun activities like rifle shooting and archery. We did morning yoga and it was a great way to start the day. The fitness center had enough to get in a really good workout. The entertainment team was terrific. The Rock Show was easily the best. They have some incredible singers. One guy, who they call "the voice", can actually hit the high note in Dream On by Aerosmith. It was very impressive. The magic show is just ok. The Disco show is a lot fun. One thing that kind of sucks is that the other Rock Show, Rocktails, is not free. And probably the most fun activity, karaoke, comes after the paid Rocktails show. So if you don't pay for Rocktails you have to wait around for karaoke. It seems like all all-inclusive resorts have some activities/entertainment you have to pay for but I don't like this practice. An all-inclusive should be an all-inclusive. I think it would've been better if karaoke was after the free Rock Show.
We did not come across any timeshare salespeople, no one pushed paid excursions on us, we did not feel like people were hustling for tips, and all employees we came across were super friendly and helpful. I see people complain about bugs. I think this depends on what time of year you come. I had a few mosquito bites but not too bad considering you are in the middle of the jungle. If you're afraid of mosquitos you probably shouldn't stay at an all-inclusive in the jungle, especially during the wet season.
Tip: the gift shop is grossly overpriced. they wanted $36 for a t shirt... We ended up getting t shirts of similar quality at the airport for $18. The cheapest option is probably the shops by the cruise ship port.

We have been to Mexico many times to various resorts and this was our first time in Cozumel. Iberostar Waves is a very good resort. The people who work at the resort are very important and they have done well in this area. The activities team is wonderful. They work hard to get to know you and keep you entertained all day and evening. Get to know them when you arrive and you’ll have a good time! Aqua fit with Manolo is the most refreshing activity of the day. Lots of silly fun pool games with Umberto, Fabian, Monse, Gerardo, Azael and Gisele. What an upbeat and friendly group! In-house singers put on a good show in the evenings and sometimes during the day by the pool. Thank you all for a wonderful time! There is no dancing at night which I would have liked. They do have live bands in the lobby.
A big thank you to Jonatan at the restaurant who always greeted guests with a smile and remembered what we like to drink. Housekeeping staff are excellent.
The resort is beautiful, lush and clean. Wildlife includes flamingoes, iguanas, peacocks and coatis. Beach is lovely with soft white sand. The water starts rocky so you need water shoes but you can snorkel off the pier. There is a dive shop right on the property so very easy to book a snorkel or scuba excursion. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Windows are small so rooms stay cool. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure.
The resort is reducing use of plastics so they provide glass bottles and many water stations.
There are two buffets restaurants and they are very good with a large selection. There are three a la carte restaurants and they are okay. Our only bad meal was at the Smokehouse. The food is average and the service is slow. It seemed there was limited wait staff and they focused on large groups leaving couples on their own. Our server brought our order and we never saw him again.
All in all a solid 4 stars. We would definitely consider going back next year!

My husband and I have traveled all over the world and stayed at several all inclusive resorts- I can not say enough good things about Iberostar Waves! The hype is true! Whether you’re a retired couple or have young kids, there is something for everyone here. I don’t have a single complaint- everything was fantastic: room, food, staff, beach, resort layout, activities & entertainment team (especially Elhuit, Umberto, Gerry, and Azael!). Our room was basic but quiet and super clean, with good AC and hot water showers. I especially loved the access to a filtered water station right around the corner from our room, and the resort’s initiative to cut out plastic bottles (they give you 2 large refillable glass bottles). In addition to this, they had recycling and organic waste bins scattered throughout.
The layout of the resort was great- it felt peaceful and quiet since each cabana building only housed about 4 apartments, and beautiful jungle like landscaping was scattered throughout. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife (coati, peacocks, flamingoes, wild pig, cats, iguanas), and also the snorkeling off the pier (starfish, baby stingrays, barracuda, trumpets, conch, a puffer).
There were options to take snorkeling or diving tours or rent a car to explore the island, but we honestly had so much fun relaxing at the swim up bar making friends, playing volleyball, participating in the resort games or sports throughout the day, that we just stayed put the whole week.
Lastly one final shoutout to the entertainment and activities crew- they really made our stay so fun and memorable. I especially loved the Mexican culture peppered throughout with a live mariachi band, a Mayan fire show on the beach, traditional Mexican dances with beautiful costumes and songs, Latin music night, and the boogie show. You will not be bored!!

We recently had our second vacation at the Iberostar Waves Cozumel and plan to return at least once a year going forward. We love everything about the resort.
The people working there are great. Rufino was there daily and made sure all our needs were met. Alexia from the kitchen staff checked with us many times to ensure the food was being enjoyed by us. Cindy in the dining room ensured that we were quickly seated and that our drinks were always topped up. She also had a great sense of humour. Michael and Jaime from member services ensured we knew all about the resort and what it offers. Michael even provided additional information through email once we had returned home.
The layout of the resort ensures each room has a private outdoor area and the rooms have all the amenities that you require.
We would highly recommend this resort.

Great beach front location with a dive centre taking divers and snorkellers out from the pier there.
Lovely rooms in 1-2 storey blocks of 1-4 rooms. A bit dated inside especially for a 5* resort but in keeping with the style and were clean.l and well equipped. Coffee bags, mini bar (sparkling water, sodas & beer). Water was refillable ourselves in glass bottles from nearby sites around the grounds.
The restaurants were great. Lots of choice. Breakfast at the buffet restaurant. Lunch at a different buffer. Didn't use the beach snack bar. Then dinner at the buffet or choice of restaurants. The restaurants were first come so a few times had to join a waiting list then got a WhatsApp when table ready.
All inclusive cocktails and wines were good.
We got there via the passenger ferry then taxi and got one easily when leaving.
Lots of animals around and fish in the sea. Felt like being on safari spotting coatis, wild pigs, racoons, iguanas, lizards etc.

This place is amazing!! We stayed the week of St. patty's Day. Food, service, entertainment - all good. I have been to many AI's and this is different than your typical hotel type resort. The bungalow style rooms, no elevators because they are not needed. Flamingo's, talking parrots, Coati's, warthog's & peacocks just roaming around. It takes you less than 5 minutes to get anywhere - from the beach to the front desk. Beach bar is open at 9am! I am an earlier riser so I was out at 5:15am to get a chair under some shade but there were plenty of chairs around during the week we went. Lots of fish under the dock and many people practiced snorkeling around that area. We ate at the Asian & Mexican specialty restaurant's and both were very good. Buffett's always had plenty of options. I never stay at the same place twice because you never know how good/bad a different resort is until you stay there yourself but I would not hesitate staying here again.

This is our 3rd stay at Iberostar and we still love it! The staff is just incredible! I didn't meet the cleaning staff but they were so great! From the food service, EVERYONE was so kind and helpful. I do need to give a special shout out to Fabian, Ediel, Alexia, and Victor. Fabian and Victor we met last year. They remembered us which makes this such a great experience! Ediel was my Wine Guy! From the entertainment staff, Sexy Jerry (Gerardo), Super Sexy (Humberto), and Sexy Freddy (Azael): So engaging and FUN. There was a young lady on entertainment that I didn't get her name that is so sweet and good at her job! There seeed to be more "games" played last year so was just a little disappointed that there wasn't more. The bartenders are all amazing. The Asian restaurant was by far our favorite. The Satay Chicken and Honey Glazed Salmon were our go-tos. OMG, the freshly made corn tortillas outside the pool restarurant was TO DIE FOR! Do NOT miss out on this experience! Check in and out was easy peasy. The wildlife on the property is also fantastic. PePe always puts a smile on everyone's faces. I can hardly wait for our next trip to Iberostar!! And a sidenote...last year we heard people voice their displeasure of having cruizers coming in for day passes. We have the opposite opinion. We met so many wonderful people that there just for the day. When asked how we like this resort, we always told them all the great things about this resort.

The views were stunning, and we really enjoyed the relaxing jungle vibes throughout the resort. The staff was warm and welcoming, making our experience even better. Our room was clean and comfortable, adding to the overall great stay.
The only small downside was that it was a bit difficult to find pool and beach chairs on one day of our trip. Other than that, everything exceeded our expectations.
This was our first trip to Mexico and our first time at this resort, and we’re already looking forward to coming back!
