Hilton did an nice job modernizing this hotel which appears to have been built 50 yrs or more ago. We stayed in main building, and room was small by American standards but very comfortable. Beautiful views of the city on the hills outside the hotel, and a very nice breakfast omelet. Only disappointment was lack of a coffee machine in the room, as we like to get our first cup of coffee before getting dressed, but that was fixed by buying a $26 coffee machine at the Walgreen's across the street.

I have never felt so welcomed at a hotel before! Beginning with the pre arrival emails followed up by text messages from Katie and Susan welcoming me and answering all of my questions, they were superb!
The history and elegance behind the hotel is timeless and it has been restored beautifully.
I enjoyed the extensive and impeccably clean health club, as well as dined in Campfire Grill several times with the ever hospitable Jaime. It was a pleasure to eat there and people watch with our window side table.
The Great Hall Bar is also filled with nostalgia and bartenders that are proud of their property and it shows! The cocktail list is extensive and the very large room seems intimate with the fireplace and games. Madison was an expert at her craft serving up delicious cocktails.
The hotel is perfectly located on the center of town and I enjoyed 2 days of walking the Riverwalk, & Rail Trail which is a true gem and it’s paved! The preserved carousel is simply joyful and the volunteer staff amazing and so proud of their town and they should be. The merchantile across the street is a gem with so many local producers as well and an extensive line of so many other things you could need.
Hotel Saranac we will be back!

This hotel is a gem. Beautifully restored and the service is outstanding. We noted that we planned to stay for an anniversary and the front desk sent up sparkling water and a cheese and fruit tray. What a nice surprise! We got an upgrade to a king suite and discovered the elevator shaft was situated next to our room. Surprisingly it wasn’t disruptive. We had a view of the lake. The best discovery was the Great Hall Bar on the second floor. The entire hall is a recreation of a hall from
Florence Italy. It is stunning. And the cocktails were fantastic (try the Hot Sara). This experience was better than a hotel we came from that was twice as expensive. The only downside is that there isn’t much to do in town but that’s all the more reason to hang out at the bar.

We loved our stay at Hotel Saranac! The attention to detail in the renovation and design style is beautiful. Our standard king was small, not a deal breaker, but next visit (and we will be back!) I’d splurge on the larger king room. The staff were all genuinely friendly from the housekeepers to the managers. The great hall was a nice place to hang out in wether you were sipping tea or coffee or ordering a mixed drink. Hotel Saranac is right in the hub of the charming town of Lake Saranac. Plenty of quaint coffee shops, restaurants, art galleries and even a river walk to explore. If you like vintage/trendy vibes this is the place for you!

We stayed at the Saranac Hotel for the weekend and it was a wonderful experience. The hotel has a lot to offer and is historic yet quaint. The rooms have been renovated to suit the modern taste yet the hotel held on to some historic features. We stayed in a king room which was a good size with a large bathroom. There was a small chair with a side table to relax in the room. My only recommendation is that one more chair is included in the room for more than 1 person to sit and enjoy. The Great Hall Bar is beautiful with old beams and gorgeous fixtures. The bartenders were busy and still worked hard to please all of the patrons. We found that all of the hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.

It is a historic hotel from a time people came up to the northern woods to breathe deeply.
It has been renovated once upon a time.
It is already a little worn out again, it is poorly soundproofed, the bath rooms are tiny and the price is too high.
But it is clean, you can open the windows, the atmosphere is fine and all the staff does a very good job.
Breakfast at the Campfire restaurant is excellent and well worth the money (price slightly above the diamond credit).
Other reviewers found the town unattractive. It is not Miami Beach and touristy times are long gone, but the residents keep the blood in their veins and the hotel and a couple of other authentic places running. This town is much better than shabby Lake Placid. And you still can breathe deeply.

As exemplified by its entire second floor called the Great Hall, many parts of the Hotel Saranac summoned visions of the majesties of bygone days. Staff throughout the hotel was efficient and accommodating, but the reception/front desk and restaurant employees were particularly friendly. Our corner room was spacious, nicely appointed and quite comfortable. It only lacked a coffee maker, but complimentary hot teas and coffees were available in the lower elevator lobby at any time. Our breakfasts and one carry-out dinner in the hotel's Campfire Adirondack Grill + Bar were generous and tasty. Imbibing at the bar and lounge in the grandeur of the Great Hall was definitely relaxing and special. Although a pricey accommodation, the historic Hotel Saranac with its captivating aura was certainly deserving of inclusion in Hilton's Curio Collection of hotels.

We stayed 1 night over Labor Day, front desk personnel were fantastic, explained the history of the hotel, showed us around. We went to the bar/terrace on the 2nd floor, beautiful!! Poor girl at bar was alone, we waited over 20min for a glass of wine, but later on enjoyed the terrace with a nice cheese platter. We reserved the main restaurant for 7:30 at the bar, but first come first served. My husband got us 2 places, told the barmaid he was coming to get me at terrace bar, she agreed, set 2 places for us! 5 min later, she gave our seats to 2 guys, just there for drinks.. she replied « first come first serve » We we not happy, and left, went to a fantastic restaurant, where we saw a group also waiting at the hotel restaurant and left. Such a shame, the hotel is beautiful, our room was great! We spent $ on the terrace and we were ready to spend more at the main restaurant, but the way they treated us, told us « sweet dreams », was not acceptable.
Customer service is what makes people come back, not turn around

Spent an evening to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We used Hilton honor points for this trip.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Free parking in a safe garage adjoining the building.
This place has a lot of history and it is nicely displayed throughout the hotel. They have done a nice job with the renovation while still maintaining the old world charm.
The rooms are small…and that is the only downfall. The bathroom door hits the toilet as you open it…the king sized bed takes up nearly the entire room. Despite the size, it seems to have everything you need. Comfortable bed and great shower.
Noticed a bunch of crumbs from past guests in the corner of the room…my attention to detail.
FYI…There is a separate building next door that offers updated and spacious suites.
The hotel is conveniently located in downtown SLK. We love the town for its history, architecture, and abundance of nearby lakes…right in the heart of the Adirondacks.
We will be back…hopefully in a larger room!
