We have just returned from a week's holiday to the Calypso. Check in was quick and efficient with a welcome glass of fizz. Our room on the eighth floor was spotless (as was everywhere else in the hotel), spacious with loads of storage space. When we went out to the (huge) balcony we couldn't believe the view. Wow! The hotel is on a promenade with steps down to the most gorgeous beach. It stretches for miles and is so unspoilt. I miss our morning strolls.
We knew this was a mainly German hotel. It wasn't a problem for us, most of them were friendly and polite.
There were plenty of sun beds at the pool although, as usual, some were reserved early.
We enjoyed the food. There was a large choice at breakfast and dinner. We never had a bad meal.
The staff are all friendly and work so hard.
We only saw the entertainment a couple of nights. I agree with an earlier reviewer who said it was a bit 'Eurovision'. It was fun though and everyone seemed to enjoy it!
There are a few bars and restaurants in Morro Jable. It was busy during the day but quiet at night. Some nights we walked to Jandia, about 10-15 minutes away. It was busier with designer shops and a few bars.
We had a lovely, relaxing holiday and would love to return, especially to see the hotel after the refurb.

Since my review last March, I would note the following improvements:-
* Both lifts worked throughout
* New pillows, much more comfortable
* No safe charge - oversight?
* The hotel is currently due to close between 16/06/25 - 31/10/25 for a major refurb
The main selling points remain:-
* The staff
* Location - cross the promenade & you’re on a superb beach stretching for miles
* Food - not at all bad, we both returned heavier!

Another fantastic holiday. Staff so helpful and friendly. An excellent choice of food, plenty choices of vegetables. Our third visit and already planning another. Great position right on the beach nice walks. Thanks to all involved in the running of this great hotel .
A fantastic hotel - but don't expect a quiet beach

Having stayed at the Riu Tres Islas in Corralejo every year for 20 years, we decided to have a change and chose the Calpyso mainly for it's 'adult-only' status. We were impressed from the moment of our arrival, about 9.00pm. We were greeted at reception by Juan Carlos who went over and above to help us - we can't praise him highly enough. The hotel is vast and after leaving our cases in the room we came down to have the cold dinner thoughtfully provided for us - and got completely lost! Perhaps a map of the layout of the hotel might be helpful on arrival - but again, Juan Carlos came to our rescue.
The hotel is very impressive - the rooms and balcony are huge. And because of the way the hotel is built there is no-one immediately overhead - a huge plus to my mind.
The food is excellent, although a more limited choice than the Tres Islas. It's slightly skewed in favour of German culinary tastes but it wasn't a problem at all. The guests are predominantly more mature Germans which we liked actually. You don't get distracted by listening to other English conversations, and the general atmosphere is peaceful and quiet. The only exception is the pool aerobics at 11.15am every day. It involves a lot of loud guidance by the very keen instructors and some very loud music. we would rather not have it, but it was entertaning to watch and only lasted 30 minutes.
The lifts have been mentioned in other reviews - a funicular style because of the structure of the hotel. They could be a little slow occasionally but the lifts service 12 floors and if it has to stop at a number of floors it takes time. But you're on holiday - there's no hurry. and a funicular lift with a view over the sea is a plus.
Morro Jable itself is a charming small town with a lovely atmosphere, and a very handy supermarket only 5-10 minutes walk away from the hotel. There's also a very nice promenade walk on the seafront outside the hotel.
Now, the beach. There is a lovely, peaceful sandy beach immediately outside the hotel, but with no sunbeds or parasols. For those, it's a 10-minute walk further along, which is not a problem. It's an easy walk. For most of the first week it was fine - it was fairly peaceful. Then in the second week all hell seemed to break loose. There are two or three large hotels in close proximity to the sun beds and the music that was blaring out from them was almost unbearable. On one occasion there seemed to be a pop concert in the grounds with a Glastonbury-style stage having been erected. there were football match style cheers and shouting and one afternoon all three hotels were competing for sound volume. We left the beach at that point as it became unbearable, and after 4 days of loud music we didn't go back to the sunbeds, which was a shame because a beach holiday is one of the main things we came for.
In summary, the hotel is fantastic, the staff are wonderful, the town is charming. It had pretty-much all we wanted. We would very happily go back if it weren't for the noise on the beach, which marred our enjoyment of the holiday. We're going to have to decide next year whether the slightly tired Tres Islas with its quiet beach outweighs the lovely Calypso with its noisy beach.

Probably the best location you could wish for, on a beautiful beach, a short walk to a few bars and shops, hardly any traffic noise.
The hotel is really well laid out, it has everything you need, the rooms are spacious and clean with large balconies but as others have said, could do with a refurb, I would recommend paying extra for a sea view, if you go with TUI don't pay the extra at a shop, it was double the price I got on line.
The drinks are reasonably priced, the food is good with plenty of choice.
It is catered mainly towards German guests but this is not a problem, the entertainment is very "Eurovision".
The pool area could do with some music during the day as it is very stale during the day, not blaring out but in the background.
Recommendations .... ask for a sea view, not too high as the lifts are very slow and you do have to wait a long time so the stairs are quicker. We would definitely go back, probably not with TUI though, you still end up on a budget airline.

Our 4th visit albeit our 1st in 9 years.
The good:-
The staff - superb - we recognised many of them from previous visits
Location - next to a lovely sandy beach that stretches for miles
Large bedroom and balcony
Worth paying extra for a sea view
Slept well with minimal nighttime noise
The food - generally very good
The not quite so good:-
The 2 lifts - temperamental, with one regularly out of action
The pillows - too soft - no alternative
Safe charge - €36 for 2 weeks
Hotel is showing its age, no real modernisation in 9 years
Would we return? - Yes, if they can sort the lifts out!

A return visit to the Calypso which has arguably the best location in Morro Jable. Most rooms face the sea but would recommend upgrading to a sea view just to make sure of this. Rooms are large and have sunbeds on the balconies although there are always plenty around the pool or the spa area. The prime position sunbeds around the pool always have towels on them from 7am despite the hotel saying no reserving of beds. Would help if this was enforced and towels removed until 9am when it officially opens! Staff are always pleasant and the hotel is spotless. This is a predominantly German hotel, most of which are past retirement age so dont come expecting a lively time which suits us. Food is fine, cooked fresh but again caters mainly for the Germans. Main positive is the location, a minutes walk to the bars and restaurants of Morro Jable to the right and a 5 minute walk along the coastal path to shops and more restaurants. Beach is spotless and goes on for miles, plenty of naturists as well here. It's a long coach ride to the hotel, mainly due to other drop offs but well worth putting up with this. Yes, the hotel is tired in places and could do with a fresh lick of paint but none of that matters once you open your balcony door and just look at the view.

We reluctantly decided to come to this hotel on a half board basis with no option to upgrade, but we have had an amazing time. The hotel is predominantly German but the people we met were so friendly and helpful. The staff were great especially Jesus, great manager who had only your happiness at heart. The beach is to die for, just like being in the Caribbean! The prices at the beach bars are very reasonable too. We cannot fault the place and we are already planning our next visit and we haven't left yet😎 we just love this place! When you visit try to get a high floor as the views are great, lovely sea view plus sunsets are 👍 Happy holidays peeps🍻🍻

Just place your provided towels where you want them. Go back hours later. No one cares. Good WiFi connection but comes up as not secure. Big room and balcony. Tea making facilities refreshed daily. Fridge provided. Safe €3 a day which should be free in A TUI BLUE hotel. Food was hot with a good selection. Pasta overcooked. Drinks are very expensive. One of the best beaches ever. Bad bits. This is a German hotel so if you are a Brit think twice. Lacks atmosphere. No background music anywhere. Most entertainment in German. No English TV channels except Discovery and Nat Geo. No English news channel. Very few Brits here. Resort is dull. More of a shopping centre. So few quality bars and restaurants. Perfect if you want a week of peace and quiet

The rooms are nice and spacious, try and get a sea view if you can. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful 100%. There are bars and restaurants nearby. If you go through the gate to the beach and turn right then it's a 2 minute walk to the seafront bars which serve food. If you turn left out of the gate and walk along the seafront for about 10 minutes you will find the centre which has plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. There are no sun loungers on the beach opposite the hotel but if you turn left and walk for about 5 minutes then you will find the sun loungers also there you will find an excellent beach bar and its also great for dinner. The food in the hotel is good and so is the entertainment but it is mainly focused on the Germans. One down side to the hotel is the nudist beach opposite and nudist bathing is allowed on the relax terrace which is wrong , they should go to the beach as I don't want this where I'm sunbathing. Overall it was an excellent holiday and I would 100% go there again. The beach and the sea are the best I've ever been too.

The hotel is in a great location, overlooking the beach and all rooms have fabulous sea views as a result. It is very close to the old town area and harbour and just a 15 minute walk in the other direction takes you to the more modern town centre with lots of shops etc. The rooms have the biggest balconies I think I’ve ever had, space for two sun loungers plus a separate area for chairs and table. All the staff we encountered delivered excellent customer service, they were all so friendly, helpful and fun. On arrival we were offered a glass of fizz, despite our late arrival. Also, a plate of food had been kept aside for us as we arrived too late for the food service in the restaurant. The food in the main dining room was very good, with ample choices of meat, fish and vegetarian options each evening, breakfast was also good with plenty of choice, the pool area was very nice and like everywhere else was kept spotless. There were sufficient sun beds, although as in most places many of the prime locations were bagged very early in the morning. We especially liked the chill out terrace which had a jacuzzi and about 8 Balinese type sun beds with canopies., along with other sun loungers and some tables and chairs. The a la carte restaurant was a great experience, the food was delicious and the service was brilliant, Jesus was great fun! I would highly recommend this place.

When we arrived we had a friendly welcome and a complimentary drink. The room was really spacious including the bathroom and especially the balcony which was the biggest we’ve had in any hotel. Everything was clean and the bed was really comfortable so always had a good night’s sleep after a hard day on the beach! The layout of the hotel is really unusual being built on a hillside with the novelty of funicular lifts. However these lifts were very slow so we mostly chose to walk as we were only on the 4th floor ( of 12). We were impressed with the food, a good variety on the buffet and some freshly cooked to order. A special mention for Irbana who was friendly and helpful at breakfast. It was fairly easy to get a sunbed when we stayed with towels provided daily, although we mostly based ourselves on the beach. The beach is very close by although there are no sun beds immediately in front of the hotel, we had to walk along the beach for 10 minutes where there were sun beds for hire. There was availability and they are well spaced out so you are not too close to anyone. The beach is really spacious and stretches for miles, the sand is soft and white and the sea is clear. It was just about warm enough to swim when we were there in late March. The beach is definitely the highlight of the area. Overall a very enjoyable stay at the Riu Calypso.

We booked with Tui and we’re really looking forward to the Sea view balcony room which we paid an extra £340 for 2 weeks. We were given room 1025 on the 10th floor, however this balcony had a huge wall to one side therefore in January the sun didn’t get onto this balcony before 12.30pm and moving wasn’t an option as the Receptionist said they were fully booked but we were offered a room on the 2nd floor shaded by palm trees, maybe a bonus in summer but unfortunately not in January. The room was large with a sofa and TV in the lounge part, no English channels. The bathroom shower tiles could have done with being re-grouted and no complimentary toiletries. The hotel is in a fabulous location steps from the beach and sea, if you love these it’s perfect. We were on half board, breakfast plenty of choices, evening meal varied, the meat sometimes hit and miss but everything else ok. There’s a large Spa across the road, handy for all your necessities. Would we go back, yes for the location but I’d just book a balcony room and not pay the extra to Tui and then ask at check in to upgrade.

Location is excellent as the beach is just across the walkway, local cafes & bars are a short walk and as Calypso is south facing, the sun shines into apartment for most of the day.
The only minor quibble is the absence of hair shampoo - current airline restriction mean we all try omit as much as we can, so shampoo in addition to the shower gel would be nice.

We booked this stay, looking for lovely beaches and some autumn sunshine. It did not disappoint on either count, it was a lovely temperature and the adjacent beach has soft golden sand and a beautiful, clear turquoise sea. The hotel itself is a bit larger than we are used to and starting to look a bit dated. Cosmetically, it needs some work to replace carpets and repair flaking paint etc. The soap holder and dispenser in our shower was coming away from the wall.
The air conditioning is noisy and ineffective.
I wouldn’t want to rely on it in mid summer.
We found that we felt a little like we were staying in a German retirement village. We are both in our forties and were definitely one of the youngest couples here. The other guests kept themselves to themselves, so we felt very much like it was just us and we weren’t able to form those little holiday friendships that we normally do.
The staff were largely friendly, though english did seem to be a struggle for many.
We attended the welcome meeting, which was conducted in German from the outset, until we asked if they could do it in English too, and were asked to wait around for 15-20 mins, so the rep could repeat the info for us.
The pool area is nice, though you have to be ready to reserve a lounger with a towel quite early in the morning. The German stereotype there is unfortunately well earned.
We enjoyed the food here and were pleased with the choice.
There is a relatively flat run into the main town centre, which is great for a morning run and the local cafes/bars nearby are friendly and lively.

My spouse and I stayed at the Calpyso for 1 week in early September. We both really enjoyed our stay.
We arrived on my spouses birthday. They kindly left us a gift of a bottle white sparkling wine, which made us feel very welcome.
There is not a great deal to do in Morro Jabel, after 2 days we spent the rest of the time lounging and sipping Mojitos on the 4 poster rattan beds and in the jaccusi on the rooftop terrace.
The hotel guests are mostly German, and Morro Jabel appeals to them, as their former Chancellor, Willy Brandt popularised it as a holiday destination. Note, there are many German nudists on the beach.
Due to the shape of the hotel, there are two funiculars to access most rooms, which is a pleasant novelty.
The room sizes are excellent, the belconies are spacious too, with great views of the beach and sea.
The food is wonderful. We had caviar, smoked salmon, steaks cooked to perfection and many other great items. To those saying negatives about the food: If you want to eat congealed baked beans, hash browns and brown sauce, why not stay in the UK?
My only negatives for the hotel are the cleaning and the furnishings. I spotted some cobwebs and leaves scattered within corridors to the bedrooms. The furnishings are slightly dated and worn. Perhaps it is time to replace furniture, carpets and decor.
These negatives are only slight and did not impact on the holiday very much. The hotel is a great place for a relaxing week away, but due to the lack of activities in Morro Jabel, not much more. We really enjoyed the week.

Fabulous two weeks spent at the Riu Calypso at the end of March/Start of April.
Plus points:
- Great location, on one of the best beaches in Europe. You couldn’t walk to the end, it’s so long
- Close to numerous bars and restaurants in traditional village of Morro Del Jable with relaxed atmosphere for dinner and drinks on the shore line. Walk a little further to the port/marina. A 10-15 min walk in the other direction along the beach promenade and your in the heart of Jandia with many shops, restaurants and bars. Great for those who like their designer clothes
- Quiet resort - lovely gentle pace, relaxed quiet evenings. If you are a party animal, this isn’t for you. If you like a glass of wine listening to the waves breaks yards away, this is for you
- Staff: excellent service, with most speaking German and English. Our first room was a little close to the road. I asked to change as I am a very light sleeper and they happily obliged
- Cleanliness - hotel is spotless
- View - we paid for a sea view but you have to work hard to find a room that doesn’t have one
- Shape - because the hotel is built on a rock face, the room below you is underneath your balcony and the room above is set behind your room. This significantly reduces noise and those horrible scraping chair sounds
- Balcony - they are huge, again the shape of the hotel helps here. Room for two sun beds and a chair and table set
- Terrace with Spa pool. This is in an elevated position and provides a great view down the beach as well as a change from being poolside
- Germans! As I suspected, this is a very good sign. The hotel and indeed the resort is predominantly German. Personally, I found them a fantastic bunch of people to be around. They are polite, friendly and speak our language as good as we do. Typically they read there books in the day and are often in bed early. No over the top behaviour and a pleasure to be around
Considerations
- Though there is a great variety of food of good quality, it can get a bit repetitive. That said, because the hotel is reasonably priced and cheaper than say the RIU Jandia Palace, you can justify eating out a few times at some very reasonably priced restaurants
- Our room was next door but one to the lift. When the lift stops at each floor there is an attachment mechanism that holds it in place. This sounds like someone banging the wall with a hammer. That said, I don’t remember the lift being used between midnight and 7am. This is only a consideration for light sleepers like me and I still had plenty of sleep. It wouldn’t stop me going back.
The only reason I wouldn’t give it a 5 star review is that it wouldn’t be fair to other hotels I’ve been to like the Atlantica Imperial in Rhodes. That said, in terms of value for money I would recommend this hotel and can easily see us going back one day if it continues to be reasonably priced.

Stayed at the RIU Calypso from 26/3 to 9/4 having previously stayed there in March 2022. We were just as happy with our second stay as we were with our first stay.
The location is great: on a stunning yellow-sand beach which goes on for miles, an easy walk into both Morro Jable and Jandia along the coastal path, some decent shops to mooch around. There are plenty of sun beds and brollies about 10 minutes walk towards Jandia. We paid 15€ for two beds and a brolly.
All the public areas of the hotel were always clean and tidy. The pool, pool area and gardens are well maintained.
Staff are friendly, helpful and hard working. Check-in and check-out were easy.
Food at both breakfast and evening meal was always plentiful, well presented and well prepared. Lots of freshly cooked fish at evening meal.
On our first visit we asked for a high floor and got room 1220, which is about as high as you can get and was overlooking the pool and beach. This time we asked for a high floor and got room 704. This room looks across the hotel’s gardens and small car park to the beach and Morro Jable town. We were more than happy with the location and standard of the room.
Entertainment. Overall we enjoyed the evening entertainment, though as someone else mentioned it is a bit ‘Eurovision’ and some was clearly geared to the German guests, but to be fair there are way more of them at this hotel than other nationalities.
As another reviewer noted, the hotel is closing in June for several months of refurbishment. Not sure what is being done, but the lifts need attention, as the lift from reception (3rd floor) was having an ‘episode’ while we were there and was out of action for several days.
Would we go back? Definitely.
