The interior was beaten up, the room not spotless clean, towels and bed-linen had stains, no hot water in the shower, bed was smaller than booked Queen size, the chairs on the balcony old and torn and no table. Clearly NOT the standard of a 4 Star Hotel. Recommend price 105 USD, we paid 173 USD a night! We were absolutely disappointed as this was supposed to be our holiday treat.

This is a review for the the RESTAURANT. We were served by Pedro. He kindly offered to make a chicken salad which was not on the menu for a pre-agreed price. He described it deliciously but we were served a tiny plate of a few pieces of lettuce with a bit of chicken on top. Nothing to fill a man. We had to ask for sauce many times. We did not want to order anything after since it was clearly overpriced for the quality and quantity of we got. And the worst was: When we were given the bill it was higher than previously agreed. We mentioned the mistake to Pedro but he stubbornly insisted and did not want to correct the mistake making us feel like we were the stupid ones for not hearing the price he said in the first place. We will certainly not recommend this place!

After reading some of the negative reviews I was tempted to cancel our reservation (we booked several months ago) - I'm glad we didn't! Our sea view room (yes, spend the few extra $) was very large, clean, and bright - and had a constant breeze from the ocean. A/C worked great, good water pressure in the shower, and the bed was probably the most comfortable during our 10 day trip through southern Mexico.
The restaurant/bar was very convenient, good food and reasonably priced. And it's a short walk down the malecon if you prefer a more active nightlife. Quinto Sole is close to the cruise ship port, but apparently the ships don't dock on the weekends - you'll have that stretch of coast to yourself....
Daniel at reception was wonderful, he spoke perfect Spanish, English and German, spent about 30 minutes chatting with us about positive & negative things about the cruise ship port, why he preferred working in Mahahual instead of Cancun or Play del Carmen, gave great directions to anything we wanted to find, and warnings - "Don't walk along the jungle road after dark, the kitties (jaguars) like to come out"....
So the {very few) negatives.....Most of the beach is unusable due to seaweed at this time of year, obviously beyond the control of a hotel,,,,,there are beach clubs further down the malecon that do clean the beaches (by manual labor),,,,,wifi & cell service were nonexistent (we're on vacation, so who cares???)....rooftop Jacuzzi could use some love & attention ,,,,,that's about all - we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay and will happily return :)

The hotel is really a fraud. The "ocean view" room that we booked was next to the reception and the restaurant with a minimal view of the ocean! Just a little strip of blue was visible trough the window. The proximity to the restaurant made the room very loud. Since the door didn't close correctly (there was a large gap between door and frame), we heard every word spoken at the reception.
The interior looks nice on the webpage, but is made very cheap. If you want hot water, you need to wait 15 minutes. WiFi is free, but you have to log in again every time you open your laptop or smartphone.
So in summary: avoid at all cost!

Do not stay or eat here- this hotel changed administration and new admin doesn’t care. Food is disgusting (we had to send back quesadillas- how do you get that wrong!). There is no hot water, pillows are horrible, drapes are torn therefore letting sun in, service is really bad.

We were warned that the service here is sub standard. We tried anyway and the warning was spot on. The restaurant was not overly busy as we walked up from the malecon. Had to wait to be greeted and then seated. After five minutes we were offerrd menus but our order was not taken for quite some time. It seemed we were in a waitress's area and watching her revealed her unpleasant demeaor as she handled other tables. The person that seated us
noticed that we had been seated way too long to not have been helped. He rescued us and took our order. He was very nice the whole time. When our assigned waitress saw that he was helping us, she argued with him. The food was not very tasty. Our lunch took almost two hours and wasnt great. Too many good restaurants in Mahahual to waste your time here.

Everything was very good!! Let’s start with the hotel services, the bar and restaurant were ok. The breakfast and lunch were delicious, the food had great taste and flavours, the drinks were the best. The rooms were very clean and well done. I didn’t like the jacuzzi that it’s located at the roof of the hotel. You have to try the stone oven pizza!! Y also didn’t like that there is a lot of flees and mosquito, got to do something about it. See ya!!

Basics missing:
- no fridge in the room (!)
- only tiny thrash bin in the bathroom, staff unable to provide second one
- staff unwilling to provide second set of beach towels, claimed no resupply received from laundry...
- hardly any sockets, existing ones in the wrong places, i.e. none by the bed, none to connect the coffee machine (had to put this to the bathroom, really)
- bed to short for people longer than 1,85 m
- uncomfortable pillows, no neck friendly alternatives available
Overall, value for money not great given that high season was over.
Hotel is clean, staff is friendly and polite, however, not willing to go the extra mile. Food ok, but nothing special.
Overall, I have stayed in many hotels in Mexico that offer more value in the 4 star range and around 120 USD per night.

Being completely unacquainted with the still remote and isolated little Mahahual, I tried researching as much as possible about everything prior to my trip. At first instance, I was torn between positive and negative reviews about hotels and the area in general. Indeed, the first thing to assimilate before traveling to Mahaual is that is NOT Cancún or Playa del Carmen. Apart from sharing the beautiful Caribbean coastline, I would not struggle to set common grounds to compare the experiences lived at these places. If your argument is that you look for virgin natural beauty and peace and quiet, but you still insist on having at hand unrestricted communications, luxurious accommodation/facilities, high-end stores, and classy restaurants, spare yourself of unsavory disappointment. Instead, keep an open mind and maintain a default level of leniency/indulgence over frivolities to focus on enjoying the local vibe and surroundings, and on making the best of your time at Mahahual. That being said, I consider Quinto Sole to be the worthiest option hands down. I even took the time to stroll along the coast only to find less convincing candidates for future visits.
My little, cozy, ocean-view room was more than acceptably equipped: cable tv, air conditioning, tidy bathroom, ceiling fan, safety box, iphone speaker, desk, comfy double bed, built-in wall open closet, and balcony chairs. To be reviewed: effective black out blinds and soundproofing.
Service was satisfactory, but leaning slightly towards average. However, I judge this as due to "unpolished" hotel management, operation, and policy, not the personnel, who, in my opinion, did their best to comply despite being apparently short-staffed. For example, the hotel rises only three stories high, but I cannot deny to have missed an elevator (or an officially appointed bell boy) when carrying personally my luggage to and from the first floor room. Rosy at the front desk is polite and helpful; restaurant/beach waiters Mildred, Victoria, Ricardo, and Alexis are friendly and attentive; and house-keeper Emma was very nice.
I checked out the jacuzzi at the roof top, but it did not really "invite" me to stay. Alternatively, I spent most of the time relaxing at the hotel's only-five-steps-away private mini beach area (which I deeply appreciated to have when cruises docked with bursting tourists). Lounge chairs deserve retirement soon (they are not very comfortable anymore) and it would be a good idea to install more palm tree palapas.
The tasty gastronomic offer at Quinto Sole will suffice and satisfy for the duration of your vacation; however, I would appreciate a more heavily mexican seafood oriented menu. Anyway, you will find various other hotel and local restaurants at walking distance.
In a nutshell, Quinto Sole will definitely comply to make your experience worthwhile.

My wife and I returned to this location during our next vacation in Mahahual. See our first review (dated Mar. 2016) for location impressions etc. We were a bit surprised that the menu had changed, and our first blush did not leave a positive impression. Our young waiter spoke no English, but to his credit worked very hard to uncover our needs/wants despite this difficulty. The bulk of the clientele were Spanish speakers, which left just us two.
My wife ordered a Caesar Salad and a "Pil Bill" think pulled pork in a thicker, home made taco while I ordered a Chile Reelenos meal (apologies if spelled incorrectly) . And there the comedy began. Neither of us knew what was the "look" of our main course, save of course for the Caesar. Our waiter brought out 2 plates at the same time, the Caesar, which was iceberg lettuce, garlic, croutons and pieces of fried chicken. Abundant, but not quite the Caesar that we expected, good salad nevertheless.
The other dish (as it turned out) was the "Pill Bill", one plate placed in front of my wife and the other in front of me. That was it. No other plate appeared. Somewhat unsure, my wife started on this well proportioned salad and I dug into the plate in front of me.
I say that I was surprised that my dish appeared to be so wrong from what I had expected and therefore was amazed, when some 30 minutes after our first plates had arrived, and accordingly dispatched. Lo and behold the Chile Reelenos (chicken stuffed) belatedly appeared. At that point my wife was full, so I was delegated to pick up the slack and take one for the team.
So onwards I piled the Reelenos atop the Pill Bull", this was unfair to that dish for despite the effort it took to find adequate extra stuffing place , taste glimpses that made their way across my palette strongly suggested that this dish might be excellent and well deserving of a stand alone dining experience.
So back we will go, remembering not to confuse the issue with a salad, when the goal is to sample more worthy fare.
Recalling the old bar axiom "On food we lose, but not on booze!" Our bill reflected this, as our bar bill was 40% ($320.00mx) while food was $480.00mx. In isolation the food portion was well worth the price, but the total was somewhat negatively tipped when considering the service errors - not the fault of our waiter who we tipped.

There are bars, coffe shops, an artisan bakery, local handcrafted products, massage services under palm trees and restaurants, all this along the beach strip, and the clear blue ocean at one side makes so enjoyable to stroll around. We had a delicious lunch at Nohoch Kay restaurant, highly recommended!... Definetely we will come back to Quinto Sole, thank you for this great w-end getaway!
