Spent another last two weeks end of January here. This is visit number 9/10 here.
Had a room wasn’t too happy with first night, was a little difficult to get another but as always the front desk staff came through. Ended up in 408, great view.
It’s wonderful to see the same staff we’ve come to know and repeat guests that we have gotten to know year after year. Some who have been coming for over 30 years.
Guests are treated extremely well. The hotel is old. No question. And yes could use a little updating. They keep the place spotless. Always cleaning.
The location in the golden zone makes it safe and fun to eat out, watch live music, shop.
It’s not upscale.
No fridges in the room.
The buffet is ok
The a la cartes are very good.
The sports bar is modern and fun.
Most pools are cold. Main pool heated.
The beach is very nice.
The sea is not the Caribbean.
Banda can be annoying and sometimes entertaining.
Spanish is the main language. Learn a bit before you go.
Many Mexicans travel here for vacation. More Mexicans than Canadians and Americans. Which makes it great.
The staff as I’ve mentioned over and over make this such a terrific place to be.

Playa Mazatlan has the potential to be a wonderful resort. The heritage Old Town is beautiful and the people are friendly and warm. But every single day starting at about noon and continuing into the night a relentless stream of Banda bands, consisting of amplified trumpets, trombones, Tuba, clarinets, and singers descend upon the beach, creating a cacophony of noise that is impossible to escape. I understand there is cultural significance to this music. It would be better appreciated if it were not an assault on our ears every day for hours on end. Often multiple bands play different songs simultaneously within a few feet of each other… very very loudly. I will never return to Mazatlan as long as this audio attack goes on and destroys any chance of enjoying the spectacular beach. What a tragic shame.

ROBERT AND JANICE WATSON
Great Time at Playa Mazatlan Beach Hotel
We were impressed with the Playa Mazatlan Beach Hotel located right in Downtown Mazatlan. The staff was excellent and everyone was pleasant and did their best as we do not speak Spanish
The hotel was older but very well laid out as my wife uses a transport Chair and everything is accessible. There were ramps everywhere and one that took her right to the beach where we helped her get to the ocean every day.
The restaurants were all good with the Brazilian we felt was the best. We found the buffet really good with sufficient choice but at the end it was repetitive but we were there 15 days and that is to be expected.
The waiters in the buffet were exceptional!
Our room was 304 on the third floor but that presented no problems with good and numerous elevators.
The room was good and although somewhat dated was kept in excellent level of cleanliness. They mop the floors there constantly and that level of cleanliness was throughout the resort.
We almost did not go do to this hotel due to the bad reviews we saw, but were convinced by our relative who had been there 4 times before. I am glad we went and circumstances permitting we will return.
I would like to address some of those parts of the bad reviews:
1) Loud bands playing on the beach.
Yes they were there and loud but they only stayed a few minutes and left. I found it loud but part of the experience. No big deal!
2) Room had mold.
I can only speak to our rooms and they were clean
3) Too many people speaking Spanish
DAH you are in Mexico!
4) The food was cold at Buffet
Experienced a little of this but it was not due to them not trying. It is difficult when you look at the length of time it is open. I found going early eliminated that problem.
5) Vendors on the beach
Loved those guys just talk to them they are just trying to make a living. Once they get to know you are not interested they are fine yet still had a conversation with us every day.
6) Noise From Oyster Bar
This is real just insist on a room at the opposite side of the hotel. If you are a party person you probably be at the bar anyway.
Bottom line I would go back and intend to next year!

Bartender awesome ( Alejandro)
Travel Date: February 28, 2025
Place was good for family and beach and location. Wish there was a bit more for kids. But bartender made the trip better. Younger guy named Alejandro was awesome every time we saw him and made the trip more enjoyable. Was always happy and very good English.

10/10 the service, the facility and the beach. Really recommend this hotel. I love the restaurant and the food, there is a pool for adults only and another for families where they have activities for everyone. Really recommend this wonderful hotel.

Nice clean resort with friendly staff. A la cartes and buffet were good. Really enjoyed the Brazilian supper. The meat was perfect. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. It was a short walk down the street to several restaurants and bars. As the tide went out the beach was flat and great to walk on. Never a problem getting chairs on the beach but they were hard plastic non-reclining and not comfortable. The star vendor was Henry who called everyone by name as he tried to sell sunglasses, hats and shirts. Looked forward to him showing up everyday.
But…..
The weather was cooler than normal and it always seem to have a breeze along the beach. Never swam in the ocean in the 7 days we were there. Definitely didn’t go in to cool off. There was one heated pool, a kids pool and an infinity hot tub. All were comfortable but not hot. The infinity pool was nice but you got out right into the breeze on the beach. I never saw anyone in any of the other pools.
We weren’t pleased with the on-site nexus travel rep. We went for our return trip voucher but she had come earlier and left. We tried phoning for 3 days and gave up. Found our pickup time online after giving up on our advisor. Really poorly organized. Saw area but won’t be back!

We spent a full week at Playa Mazatlan. We chose that hotel for the location. It’s 4 minutes walk to the start of the Melancon.
We had the all inclusive. The morning buffet was good. It’s a 4 stars. We had plenty of food. We were able to find fruits, eggs, pastries and an egg station. In the morning, we met Kitcia, She always welcomed us with a smile and tried to get us a table by the sea. One observation is that this hotel has many waiters working hard to serve us.
Here is some of them working at the buffet : Josue, Francisco and Julio,
We ate at different restaurants
Casa de Roberto, a Mexican restaurant with great food: Yvan, Edy, Fernando and Roberto will serve you lunch and supper.
At the Italian restaurant, you will meet Christopher , Hugo, Javier, Pedro and Andres. The food was excellent.
At the Brazilian restaurant, that was outside so it could be fresh at night so bring an extra layer, we met Raul. The food was good but those pineapples were succulent.
Arantzia who work at the Cafe served us a great cappuccino.
At Captain Jack, their skewers were delicious.
What we enjoyed about this hotel (400 rooms) is the different pools they have. We brought our drinks to the jacuzzi (adults only) and were able to see the sunset. The lifeguard Axel or the security guards make sure that no children come in the jacuzzi. It was appreciated.
We had an ocean view room. Very spacious. No mini-fridge but a safe.
The drinks were plentiful. Their wine were good. Alejandro at the bar buffet, made great mojitos.
Attention: Being in Mexico, this hotel has many Mexicans clients. On Saturday, there’s bands playing on the beach. People pay to hear the traditional music. Sometimes 4 bands will play at the same time. It’s chaotic but only for few hours. For some it would be hard trying to relax on the beach. We didn’t mind because we were out exploring Mazatlán. The local buses are easy to get and this city is so beautiful. Don’t stay at the hotel.
At night, they offer some entertainment, we didn’t stay. We were tired of the walking.
Mazatlán could be fresh in the evening. Bring a layer.
This hotel was a great spot for us. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you everyone.

This resort is rated at 4.5 stars; try a 2 star. If you are looking for a relaxing place to stay, this resort is not the one. If you like 3 to 4 bands playing at the same time on the beach with a lot of beach vendors bugging you again, this is the place for you.
The food was not good.
The resort, beach, and rooms were very clean; the only plus was that.
Serious folks, I DO NOT recommend this resort on many levels; please don't waste your money.
There is excellent food in the restaurants outside the resort, and the staff is friendly.

We are not terribly picky when it comes to vacations, and we have been in many vacation resorts around Mexico over the years, but how Playa Mazatlan received a 4+ star rating has my head spinning. There are LOUD bands that play all frigging day long along the beach .... and they seem to love to play over one another .... horrible. 98% of clientele was families from Mexico - loud and rude. Only nice pool was overrun with kids and their rude parents. The smaller pool (nice one shown in the pictures) doesn't offer any type of seating. Booze selection for all-inclusive was bottom of the barrel (thank goodness for stores on the little road outside the resort where you could by a Modelo for cheap). Buffet was disgusting - lightly warm food at best and the same stuff ALL THE TIME .... no toaster in the morning, bread rolls were always stale, service was nothing to write home about, people behind the counters could not speak English, no cappuccino machine (except in the evening up behind the pool - but that was broken for the 9/10 days we were there). Rooms are old and dated and the pillows are terrible. Pro - was always able to have a hot shower after running the hot water for a bit. There was literally one area on the entire resort that was 'relatively' quiet, and that was over on one remote side that had a kids area, hot tub and cold pool, which was dirty all the time because of the tree droppings. At least you could read your book though, because once noon hit and those frigging non-stop loud bands started up (complete with trombone, trumpets, clarinets, bass drum and TUBA), there was no quiet place. There isn't really anything good I can put in this review other than hot water for showers. Very disappointing holiday - even had me looking for our last 3 nights elsewhere!!
