The price/ quality ratio for this hotel is totally out of whack, even for southern Patagonia. It desperately needs a major upgrade to continue charging the top rate in town. In our lake view room the ancient carpets were loose, the bathroom was mouldy and smelled bad, the TV was from another era, and the decor was 1980s.
That lake view? It’s there in the distance, across a very busy, noisy road which is right outside your windows and will keep you up all night as all the traffic that passes through Calafate uses this thoroughfare. And if it doesn’t, the total lack of soundproofing between rooms and floors will stop you from sleeping. We could hear our neighbours on the phone, watching TV, using the bathroom, and having a big argument in the middle of the night.
The number one requirement of a hotel is to provide a sound night’s sleep. It’s impossible at this hotel, even at a cost of $300. Stay anywhere else.
(I’m scoring 2 rather than 1 because Juan on the reception was friendly and helpful and there is parking. Those are the only two redeeming features)

Okay hotel, comfortable yet requires a few improvements

The hotel is okay.
Room furnishings comfortable. No tea / coffee making facilities in room.
Window and door not soundproof, so you can hear everything outside and on corridor (window sounds open even if closed). Sleeping was a problem in this hotel - although this may be dependent on which side of the hotel room is located, as I note other reviews with more positive feedback. No additional pillows in wardrobe.
Hotel facilities are okay. No fitness centre or pool. Breakfast has good variety and of good quality. There is however a limited fresh fruit selection. A rather weak filter coffee available and you are required to pay for a decent coffee.
Staff polite and friendly.
Not sure how this hotel has 4* rating based on the limited facilities it has.

The Good:
Nice view of the lake from the property, situated on edge of town.
Breakfast spread is good with variety and quality ingredients
Juan C (Mendoza) at the front desk is friendly, welcoming and professional
The Bad:
Room is dated and very overpriced
Bathroom door was so warped it wouldn’t even close properly
Mattress sagged - poor sleep
Shower tiles were dirty and cracked/crooked
Room was very warm (no AC is standard for this region)
The hotel staff were mostly aloof and non welcoming. Worse offender was the older lady in the cafe who refused to give/sell us coffee in our thermos to take on our hike for the day, despite us clearly explaining our request. What happened to the guest is always right? Ridiculous.

We spent two nights in a ‘Double Standard’ room which felt like a basement apartment. I think we got the worse room in the hotel (102) even though booked eleven months in advance. The view was eye-level of the rear parking lot and the employee bicycle rack. The shower screeched like a siren and the toilet flushing was also really loud. Not to mention the outdoor and hallway doors banging shut for each guest coming and going. Also, our room-phone rang at 6am and no one answered and hung up which was really annoying.
The wing seemed like an older part of the hotel and the nicer newer rooms were on the opposing side of the lobby. If a nicer room is important for your stay, I would suggest spending a little more for a Superior room.
Positives; hotel is walking distance to town and has car parking on-site. Breakfast is extensive with tons of pastries and goodies (small sticky-buns were amazing). There was a barista, but unclear if an extra cost. Breakfast room has distant views of the scenic lake and mountains.
Given the price point alongside the underwhelming room, it was a bit disappointing.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay. The hotel is well located just out of town but a short walk to the centre. The public areas and gardens are very attractive and the place had a good overall feel to it. Our room was rather dark with no outlook and rather too hot but perfectly adequate for a short stay. The two dinners which we are in the restaurant were excellent and reasonably priced. The staff could not have been more helpful. Would happily stay again.

This hotel is nicely located on the edge of Lake Argentina. A short walk into the town centre to all shops and restaurants. The room was large with a good sized bathroom. Whilst it had underfloor heating and was quite warm, I found opening the window a good way to cool the room. Breakfast was very substantial. The lounge and lobby were a great place to relax. The hotel also does a mate welcome which gives visitors a chance to try the national drink!! Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel .

One of the bigger and more modern rooms that we stayed in whilst in Patagonia. However our room was on the side so no view, and it has a nice window seat area but unfortunately it’s sun facing so made the room very hot. No air con and no heating to turn off, so we found it difficult to cool the room down.
Bathroom was clean and had toiletries provided, bottles of shampoo and conditioner.
Minibar fridge to put your own drinks in.
Plugs available next to bed but you have to unplug bedside light.
Safe in room.
Didn’t use any restaurant, but there is a little cafe type area and we had a lovely hot chocolate and churro with dulce de leche in, and it was very reasonably priced.
Games also available to use.

We stayed here for three nights whilst in Argentina/Rio de Janeiro on a 16 night tour.
The hotel is ideally located and an easy walk into the town where there are numerous restaurants.
The room was spacious with a big bathroom.
We didn’t have dinner at the hotel but the buffet breakfast was very good (much better than some others we have had whilst here) and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. We were even given a slightly later check out to accommodate our transfer on to our next destination, thank you!!

Lasagne in the restaurant was so dry we sent it back, but other dishes were OK.
Our room was clean and comfortable with lovely views over the lake and the hotel is a short walk from the main shopping and restaurant area.

Some things need to improve
The outside of the hotel is good. Lots of places with views to sit .
Carpets in common areas and hallways are worn down and need replacing. No coffee or tea in the room. If not in the room then they should provide complimentary in the lobby.
No iron for clothes.

We stayed at this hotel in mid February and thought it was ideally situated for visiting Perito Moreno Glacier and other attractions around El Calafate. The hotel is set in spacious grounds with the added fascination of pecking bandurria birds on the lawn while we were there. Our room was large, comfortable and well equipped with an attractive window seat which was perfect for a bit of relaxation after a long day.
Hotel staff at the reception desk are extremely helpful and really well informed in giving advice over glacier trips, confirming flights and so on; and the dining staff are efficient and appreciate that guests may need to meet trip pick up times. The food too at breakfast is varied, plentiful and serving dishes are constantly replenished; also, unusually in Argentina, they also serve decaffeinated coffee. Dinners are so very delicious and make use of local produce.

Although a bit dated, the hotel was very comfortable and clean, the breakfast was good. The dinners there were the highlight with great trout, pasta, and even the curry chicken was good. Very friendly staff. About 2 min by taxi from the center of town. Would stay here again

I usually do not write reviews but I could not resist here. The hotel is fine and the location is great. What is outstanding, however, is the attention to detail by hotel staff. We were celebrating a special event in our life and when we arrived in our hotel room we were greeted with a special note from staff together with the variety of complimentary sweets. It was really appreciated.
The other amazing thing about the hotel is its restaurant. We travelled around Argentina for a while. However, our best dinner in Argentina was in this hotel!

We enjoyed our stay at the Mirador, despite the fact that some of the public areas are in desperate need of renovation... the carpet on the first floor hallway is worn and, in places, ripped. That hallway also gives off the stink of having absorbed the aroma of too many breakfasts past.
Fortunately, the room itself was fine... perfectly clean, not worn-out, and equipped as you would expect at this price level.
We had upgraded to a lake-view room. The view was nice, although we wish we were on the upper floor where we would have seen more of the lake and less of the sometimes busy road out front.
The breakfast was excellent: plenty of choices, with lots of fruit and juices, great baked goods, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.. Coffee was fine, although expresso was an extra charge.
The staff was always friendly, helpful, and professional.

Staff were very kind and helpful. I forgot my credit cards in the safe and they kindly sent them to our other hotel in Buenos Aires. The view is magnificent, Lago Argentino was just in front of you and our room had a view of the lake.
