Hotel Gault's staff were great, helpful, and courteous (especially Brian and Noks). We came earlier than the usual check-in time, so my husband and I roamed the area, which is very close to Old Montreal attractions. The hotel has a luggage storage area, so we are not worried about our luggage while waiting for our room to be ready. When we came back, we were told that our room had been upgraded to a nicer one, which made our stay in this hotel much special.
Pillows are so huggable. We had a very nice and relaxing sleep.
Breakfast was really good. We had our breakfast delivered to the room as we wanted to relax and watch TV while having our meal.
Cleanliness: The room is really clean, the towels are new, and the toiletries are good, but they need to pay more attention to maintaining and deep cleaning the toilet bowl and bathroom, as they are very close to getting a bad review.

Charming But Modern in Old Montreal

The Hotel Gault was one of the choices our friends gave us for their son's wedding weekend, and it didn't disappoint. Our large corner suite, which overlooked the street, was quite large and sunny (although it's easy to close the drapes whenever you want).
The queen-size bed was on the soft side but it grew on me. The pillows were great (we ordered extras) and the air conditioning made no noise. The shower was terrific as was the housekeeping staff, who kept our room fresh and clean throughout our stay.
We had breakfast in the hotel on two mornings -- both times the food was quite good (eggs one day, yogurt and granola the next). The croissants were excellent.
Originally, the hotel was a late 19th century building (or two or three) and is very "old-world" charming, but the interiors are contemporary and well-designed. Its location in Old Montreal is fantastic, with walking access to many shops, restaurants, parks and attractions.
Be aware, though, that you are in a city, with occasional city noise (though nothing too terribly late). If you like a boutique, urban hotel, this is a good bet when you visit Montreal.

We liked the large junior suite, which has modern décor, including no rug (a plus!) and a cool brick and stone wall behind the bed. The bathroom was HUGE with a deep tub as well as a shower. Less attractive was the separate area for the toilet. The bed was comfortable. Disappointingly, there were no upholstered chairs for relaxing. The room has two large windows, but the view of the building across the street was nothing special. Based on the building’s location, it’s unlikely any rooms have terrific views. The staff were great: very welcoming and helpful. They showed us a side door to a mini lift to avoid the steps at the main entrance. The lobby is attractive and the cooked breakfast was good. It’s a quick walk from the hotel to the waterfront. The hotel is two blocks from the popular Olive et Gourmando café. Highly recommend the nearby beautiful and delicious vegan restaurant Bloom Sushi!

The location is centrally located & the staff at the hotel was exceptional particularly Joey (who advised us on the most interesting places to go he even wrote out directions) & Brithney. Everyone was extremely friendly & helpful answering our questions. Our room was a “suite junior” perfect for a couple. They offered full maid service & turn down service at no extra charge if you wanted it. Their breakfasts were excellent “Eggs Benny” delicious. We look forward to going again.

I really wanted to love this hotel. Its "minimalist" approach doesn't do justice to the beauty and history of its facade. It is way too stark.
We had a deluxe loft which is basically a king bed in the middle of a room. There is virtually no horizontal surface other than the bed. Yes, the bed is in the middle of the room. Good if you're a creator wanting to make spicy content, but otherwise odd and inconvenient. The one small table was taken up by the coffee service and there was only one chair. There is no convenient power by the bed. You'll charge your devices on the floor in the opposite corners. The ceiling is high, so the light is kind of diffuse (hence, dim). And it echos and is without white noise, so if your partner breathes heavy, you'll hear it well. And you'll also hear street noise (we heard car races late Friday night) and hallway noise.
The bathroom is behind the bed (there is a sheer curtain for aesthetics). Lighting is awful. There is no vanity, very little surface area, hardly any hanging space (taken up by their two huge robes), and only two hooks (one for each of the only two bath towels). The shower is big and powerful.
The lobby is equally stark, completely consumed by meal service tables throughout the entire lobby (all sides). The one tiny corner with a high top and comfy couch to talk or work was roped off for a private event one of the days. So, basically, there was no way to get work done in this hotel.
This hotel is all design and form, and really not about function. Despite it being really well serviced (very accommodating staff) and very clean, there are much better options in the old city.

A wonderful stay over Christmas in magical Montreal. The minute we entered the lobby it smelt incredible, like cinnamon, spice and Christmas! Beautiful decor and a spacious lobby area that also doubles as their breakfast/brunch area. The front desk staff were always pleasant, especially Estrella who assisted us with restaurant recommendations.
The room, the Deluxe Suite, was located on the second floor and it was gorgeous! Super modern with a big comfy bed, big soaking bathtub, heated bathroom floors, a desk, lots of cupboard space and a mini fridge. The bed was comfortable. The tub was so nice, especially after a day of exploring Montreal.
Everything is pretty much within walking distance, with the hôtel located in old Montreal, close to the water, restaurants, shops and attractions.
The breakfast we had included in the room, omg, amazing! We ended up eating in our room each morning and choosing a different dish off the breakfast menu each day. Breakfast ends, I think, at 10:30am but on weekends they do a brunch that goes a bit later. There is no lunch or dinner service here, that we were aware of, but with so many restaurants near by you won’t go hungry!
We did enjoy a wine and a beer Christmas night downstairs, in the lounge area, by the fire - that was lovely and we had the whole place to ourselves.
There’s no bad to this hotel, but for awareness, there are steps leading up from the street into the lobby, which can be a bit entertaining to navigate with luggage… they did help us with our luggage when they heard us coming in so if you need assistance we suggest heading in to ask for help first. Also, and this seems to be a canadien thing, the pillows are so soft, maybe feather stuffed, so maybe ask for different ones if you like a bit more firmness.
Would definitely recommend a stay at Hotel Gault!

Hotel Gault is elegant, intimate, well-designed and perfectly situated in the Old Town area of Montreal. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the rooms are beautiful, well-appointed and spacious with comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. We have stayed in their Junior Suite and Apartment accommodations, but the other available room types all look lovely having seen some when friends and family stayed, as well. Montreal is a wonderful city with incredible culture, shopping and dining. Old Town is particularly lovely and our favorite place to stay when we visit. Hôtel Gault has become our go-to for accommodations in the city. Highly recommend.

When we arrived, we found out we’d been upgraded. Our loft room was very nice, complete with a welcome note and snack.
There was a little issue when our room keys didn’t open our door, but several staffers handled it immediately. There was a chair in our room; my husband would have liked a more comfy chair, or even a sofa, but the bed, pillows and bath amenities were really nice.
The location was great, too—very convenient.

The Gault is one of the smaller hotels, which opened shortly after the turn of the millennium around the world, offering understated luxury paired with timeless design. The hotel aged well, and we were very pleased with our spacious corner room. Yet at CAD 830/night it was at the edge of being out of balance in terms of price/value; it’s a room with bottled water and Molton Brown toiletry. Especially as the minibar, or available items for in-room consumption, are on the light side. But I understood there is 24h room service available (which we didn’t use). If you enjoy understated luxury, we can recommend it, especially as it is conveniently located.

PROS:
-Service was excellent and friendly. This is particularly notable because, since the beginning of the pandemic, this is the first time we’ve gotten good service at a hotel — basic things like cleaning rooms everyday and making sure toiletries were stocked. Service at Hotel Gault was not only adequate but excellent.
-Location is right near the Old Port and ideal for tourists, yet is on a smaller side street, making it less noisy. The Victoria Square Metro station is just a couple of blocks away.
-Soundproofing is excellent, the noise from other guests was minimal.
-Bed was comfortable (although a little firm for my husband’s taste) and room was clean and modern.
-Windows actually open, which is a big benefit in a new city where you can’t necessarily judge the temperature by looking.
-Our room was spacious and modern, with very high ceilings.
CONS:
-Storage! The room was very spacious, but it had no armoire or dresser into which to unpack. There were 5 small, open shelves in the shower area (plus one that is too high to use), which have 4 very small, difficult-to-open drawers (see photo). There is also a closet bar with 7-8 hangers on it. Nowhere else to unpack all one’s clothes, toiletries, and other travel stuff. It might be fine for one person staying 1-2 nights, but we were two people, staying for a week, which was far too much to unpack onto these tiny shelves. My husband and I basically ended up living out of our bags, which we laid on the floor. The room was HUGE, plenty of space to add an armoire or chest of drawers.
-Similarly, the sink had a very small shelf, as well as one extremely tiny shelf in the shower — I had to put most of my shampoo, razor, etc. on the shower floor.
Overall, I would definitely recommend the Hotel Gault, and would stay here again if I’m ever back in Montreal.
