My wife and I just returned from a six night stay at Grand Wailea. After reading many negative reviews we had considered cancelling GW and staying elsewhere - and are so glad we chose to stay with Grand Wailea. From the moment we arrived until the final "Aloha" the staff, property and food and beverage outlets and options far exceeded our expectations. We requested a particular room placement from Mr. Lesher after making our reservation and got it. Our package included a daily breakfast which was varied as well as well prepared and presented. While they did charge for coffee and juices at breakfast, we would have paid the same elsewhere for those add-ons. And, the breakfast service staff was adamant and consistent about telling us that gratuity was included (going so far as to cross out the tip option on the signature form). The grounds were immaculate and beautiful as were all the pool options. Contrary to some reviews, the pool staff kept a pretty close eye on chairs that had been reserved early in the day and not occupied. Whether it was the particular dates we were there or some other unknown factor, we did not have any problem finding chairs with shade in either the adult only or activity pool areas. Also contrary to reviews were the cleanliness of the beach and pools as well as our room. My wife is very particular about hotels and she had zero complaints (which says a LOT). In reviewing the negative comments seen in some reviews, it seems to me that many of them were the result of guests either not planning well or coming with expectations which were simply impossible to fulfill. Because of those reviews, we truly looked for negatives and were prepared to be let down. But, having found none, we had an exponentially more marvelous anniversary stay. Thank you to the General Manager and entire Grand Wailea staff for making our a vacation to remember.

We are actually still here and the staff and service has been exceptional. The grounds are beautiful and the food and drink lovely. But I would like to share with the management given the overall room rate at this property. the nickel and dimed add ons while here on every single add-on is ruining our experience. From the price extra for a latte for an already $62 breakfast buffet, to the cabana and umbrella rates....I don't mind paying extra, but this is insanity. $1500 for a cabana?
Also, if you say you have bikes available, I understand they may not always be available, but you actually have three for this entire property which has been frustrating because we've gone down every morning and they're gone and now I don't wanna pay for an E bike.

My husband and I had a lovely trip to Maui, and the Grand Wailea offers a stunning setting with incredible ocean views. While the natural beauty and certain experiences made our stay memorable, there are a lot of areas where the hotel could improve—mainly due to changes in management and staffing shortages. That said, the staff who are there are working incredibly hard and deserve all the support they can get!
HIGHLIGHTS
• Gorgeous, Well-Maintained Property – Beautifully landscaped grounds with direct beach access and a scenic oceanfront pathway perfect for walks and jogging.
• Unforgettable Sunsets & Whale Watching – Seeing whales breaching under the sunset right from our lounge chairs was absolutely magical.
• Beautiful Art and Art Galleries On-Site – A great bonus! Christopher Egan’s gallery was a standout, and we’re excited to receive the piece we purchased.
• Incredible Live Saltwater Bar – The wrap-around aquarium at Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa’ was mesmerizing and a true highlight of our trip.
• Great Pool Options – A variety of pools for both adults and families, including a fun water park for kids.
• Activites & Excursion bookings - Helped book Haleakala (book in advance!) was worth it at sunrise
• Great location
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT
• Staffing Shortages – The staff is lovely and hardworking, but they are clearly stretched thin. It is very evident that Blackstone acquired this hotel and is trying to squeeze every extra dollar out of you as a guest that they can, from $20 mimosas to cutting corners everywhere on small details that you expect from a luxury 5 star experience. The staff is aware and apologetic but there is nothing they can personally do. Management should address this to enhance the guest experience.
• Loss of Charm – Some signature details have been removed under new management, like live fish ponds that used to surround the restaurant (now look barren and weird) and gold railing accents are unpolished, which once added majorly to the hotel's character.
• Undisclosed Construction – A large section of the property, including the most scenic views, was obstructed by construction, which wasn’t mentioned at booking despite premium pricing.
• Housekeeping Oversight – Cleanliness in our room did NOT meet expectations, and even after allowing for recorrections and reporting the issue with photo evidence at checkout, there was ZERO effort to make it right. There were large amounts of hair decorated on our shower walls when we checked into the room that were never removed by housekeeping and a used latex glove left in the middle of the carpet next to our bed one day. Maybe I'll upload the photos.
• Dining Experience – While Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa’ was fun, the buffet was understaffed, leading to long waits and frustrated hungry guests. Additionally, they wouldn't allow people to grab their own food and sit in the EMPTY bar area which was frustrating having been served there the days prior. Other dining options, like Olivine, felt overpriced for the quality.
• Not Ideal for Romantic Getaways – While there is an adults-only pool, the family-friendly atmosphere means kids dominate much of the resort. It is LOUD. Our room was above the waterslide area of excitable kids sceaming all day long :) :) :)
The Grand is a beautiful property with a lot of potential, and the staff truly do their best. However, management should reinvest in both the experience and the people who make it special. If those improvements are made, this could easily be a five-star destination once again!

The grounds are spectacular, but the lack of service is not. You can spend thousands a day for a suite For a room, you must pick up your towels and compete for a lounge chair at the pools. There is no service to set up your chairs. It takes 30 minutes to get a refreshment. The night turn-down service, which claims they will come back night after night, never did. The people who work here are very pleasant, but a 5 star resort? Only in their dreams. God forbid you need to use the restroom when you are at the pool! It is about a one-mile hike to a bathroom. Absurd. It isn't bad service it is the lack of service. A 3.5 star maybe, but extensive grounds and facilities. I would suggest trying the other hotels in the area. The Uber drivers recommended the Fairmont!!!

We recently spent 5 nights at the Waldorf Astoria in Maui. While the resort and room were very nice there were many things that were simply unacceptable during our stay.
The amount of lounge chairs at the pool were so few it was ridiculous. This is a very large facility with next to no chairs around the pool. People were lining up at 7am to get one. Then would leave thier towels on them all day so no one else could use them. The staff did absolutely nothing to stop this. Most resorts have an unattended chair policy where towels will be removed after an hour or two. Not here.
To make matters worse there was a significant charge to get a lounge chair on the beach. Hotel information stated that beach chairs were included in the daily resort fee. This is the case with most properties but again not here. Marriott would never do this.
In addition the so called hot tub was cold and the resort showed a level of neglect with regards to its grounds and facilities.
We heard that it was sold, is this true? It is certainly not representative of a Waldorf or any upscale resort unfortunately.
I contacted hotel management and Hilton corporate and only received lip service. Manager stated the hotel's policies but they were not enforced at all by the staff. Corporate just ignored my complaint. We were not the only guests to complain about these issues....
Plenty of great places to stay on Maui, but AVOID this one.
Simply unacceptable for a resort that charges upwards of $1,000 a night.

I don’t even know where to start with how bad this place is. From the moment we arrived, it was clear we had made a huge mistake booking here.
First, let’s talk about the price—this resort charges luxury prices for something you would get at a holiday inn.
Now, the food and drinks. I’ve had better meals at airport terminals. Everything is ridiculously overpriced for the quality—$35 for a bland, soggy burger? $27 for a watered-down cocktail that tastes like it was made with bottom-shelf liquor and tap water? You’d think for these prices, they’d at least try to make it decent, but nope. Ruth Chris Steak house had better prices and WAY BETTER DRINKS.
And then there’s the valet. We had no choice but to use it since they don’t allow self-parking, and of course, they managed to scratch our rental car. When we pointed it out, they acted like we were imagining things and refused to take any responsibility. The manager was nowhere to be found, and the staff couldn’t have cared less. Now we’re dealing with the rental company over damage we didn’t even cause.
Do yourself a favor—stay literally anywhere else. This place is an overpriced, poorly run scam that will ruin your vacation.

This was the 5 th time and more than likely the last.
The resort has upgraded the rooms although they have less amenities than ever before.
The are no charging for seating at the Oceanside restaurant unless you have an undesirable table, sad. Also the limited restaurants make it hard to find variety, which we went off property for most of our meals over the 8 days we’re at this location.
For the rates of the accommodations there are more options at similar priced locations with better amenities.

We had stayed at the Grand Wailea a few years ago and returned to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The pool and beach are very nice. Lhen, who checked us in at the front desk, was extraordinarily nice and helpful. Hela at the front desk was also very nice. We ate at the hotel restaurants, which were expensive, but good.
We had prearranged to park at a different place, and when we arrived to check in to the hotel, I told the valet I didn't want to park the car in the Grand Wailea lot. He grabbed the keys out of my hand and insisted he was going to park the car up in the garage while we checked in, even though there were more than 20 other cars sitting parked in front of the hotel. We are Hilton Gold Honors and have stayed at several hundred Hilton properties. I have never seen anyone this rude or service this bad in 30 years of staying at Hiltons. I would have left and stayed at a different hotel if we did not have a prepaid reservation. The Valet claim check that he insisted on giving us is 476963, in case anyone from the hotel reads this and is interested in looking into extraordinarily rude and poor guest service, and it would be nice if someone could look into this. We retrieved the rental car a few minutes later, after we had checked in, and parked it at a different place. I was absolutely livid when I saw our Grand Wailea bill a few days later and discovered the Valet had added an entire day's charge for the few minutes of parking to our bill. Other than the extraordinarily rude valet service, the service at the resort was good. The valet experience ruined our stay enough that we will never return to the hotel again, but the pools are very fun and the beach is very pretty.

One day we will get to experience the Waldorf, but it won't be on Maui apparently.

As a 5 star my expectations are high for a $1100+ rate. On first arrival the drop area is nice, a bellman takes the luggage, no direction to the checking desk. Front desk is friendly, no welcome drink, cold towel or lei. Find your own room, beautiful view of the ocean, room is spotless but not impressive. We have the deluxe room…. Room has convenient plugs etc.
We are excited to go to the buffet breakfast. No prices are listed and we got the bill for $70 per person for breakfast. The buffet was totally unimpressive. Basic food that you would find in a three star motel. Don’t expect anything like smoothies or? Wouldn’t take much to make this spectacular.
Again, the staff are so friendly.
The pools are very delightful however they’ve taken up most of the prime spots with little cabanas on most days when we visited. The cabanas are about a quarter full, which you must rent.
The chair space feels like you are stacked in like cord wood. Again a three star motel place experience. They have underutilized the property many spaces that do not create opportunity for the guest. Over abundance of towels though. The adult pool is very crowded again multiple layers of lounge chairs. The swimming area for families and children seems to be spectacular fun slides yet we’re very outdated.
Beware of some hazards there’s a sprinkler head on the entrance to the beach in the slide area. There are raw electrical wires. Many of the lights do not work on the paths so be careful at night.
There is a beautiful chapel in the middle of the property that is very spectacular. However, you cannot get in it to do prayers, etc. it was not use the entire seven days that we are there seems like a waste of space. This could easily be another swimming pool area. This area is very beautiful to look at, but not functional for the bulk of the guests.
It’s hard not to be jealous of the Marriott next-door, which has amazing spaces and infinity pools. Plenty of lounge chairs on multiple levels
This hotel is not been updated in over 37 years since we visited. There is a big Lawn that has lounge chairs, however, no umbrellas.. to rent two chairs and an umbrella on the beach cost $150. The spa has a set up on or near the beach. This is an “up sale” spot. They get you in there and then charge you for extras -which they don’t inform you about. $410 for one 30 minute massage and a foot massage!
Everything at this hotel is about getting more money out of you. Hilton is capitalizing on you for a ton of upgrades. It’s very obvious that Hilton corporate has provided excellent benefits for the staff and they do a marvelous job maintaining. They have opened a new restaurant this week while we’re here, unfortunately we made reservations 7 weeks out but were told that it would not be ready in time that our reservation was canceled.
Thankfully, there is a market up at the Square, which has delightful food at a quarter of the cost of the hotel.
Don’t count on any shuttles to or from local spots. I overheard a guest from another property call and asked for a shuttle from the market back to their hotel. Here, no options as far as shuttles go from the airport to this hotel you have to book a taxi, Uber or Lyft. Those five star hotels have a concierge service that books that for you, not here.
I recommend that you eat outside of the hotel. There are some really great places around. Use OpenTable to make reservations.
I gave this property a four star overall, compared to other 5 star properties. 2 star for affordability for cost of services.
At one time this hotel was the gem in Wailea, unfortunately it has dropped down with the new hotels that are now spotlighting the shoreline.
