This hotel is all about amazing views, peace and relaxation. The room we had was amazing and on the 6th floor. It was newly renovated and was perfect.
The booking of the shuttle was easy and all accessed by room pad or phone. You certainly need to use the shuttle as it’s not really a place you can walk into and out of town unless you are really young or fit!
The food in the restaurant was lovely, Well presented and tasty.
Breakfast was simple but had a good choice unless you leave it too late.
Downside was that we visited at the end of October so know they were running the hotel down for winter. The weather was amazing and the pool would have been lovely, but we understood why it was empty. It was freaky heat!
We really enjoyed our stay and recommend this hotel.

My husband and I stayed for a week at Grand Hotel Excelsior and had an amazing time! It's situated in the cliffs high above Amalfi, which was actually great to get away from the crowds. The view was unmatched and amazing to wake up to every morning. The shuttle service was easy to use and goes back and forth to the town quite frequently. We never had any issues. The front desk staff was very helpful with any questions we had. Breakfast was great, they had a good selection of food and everything was very tasty. We had dinner there once and the food was decent, but you'd be better off going into town for dinner. The drinks at the bar were also great, and we got a charcuterie snack one night which was wonderful. I've seen a lot of comments that the beds were too hard, but we found it quite comfortable. We had a great stay!

Amazing. I can’t bring myself to write a full review yet. This holiday and the location was so amazing I’m still tearing up with happy tears as it truly was a holiday of a lifetime I’d wanted to do for so long, and staying here, the views, the ambience, the staff, the shabby chic of it, the food, the pool, the beach, and Amalfi was so so magical, I just won’t do it justice. Want to go back,

We stayed at this hotel for 6 nights at the end of August, what an amazing experience we had. The room was spotless clean and cool thanks to the aircon, the bed is massive and the addition of a sofa and very large balcony is appreciated. The pool is a perfect size and being adult only means its fairly quiet and relaxed, there is also a grotto bar at the pool serving drinks. Breakfast is fresh and has a great variety, we also had the hot food most mornings getting a Ham and Cheese omelette with crispy bacon. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and delicious. We also ate in the restaurant twice, the food is high quality, delicious and very reasonably priced, we also ordered room service once, this was again delicious but also very reflective of the overall service we received, the waiter brought the food in and prepared the table on our veranda, laid the food and drink out and lit some candles we had laid out. Don't forgot the views, absolutely stunning and the shuttle bus every 20 minutes to the private beach or town centre. easily one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

Very overrated Hotel and dinner restaurant.
We.booked the last available room, which was called an economic room, at a 500 euro rate, this room is simply garbage, extremely old building, room, bathroom and furniture. It should not be available for booking at all and for sure not for this rate, maybe for 10 euros not more.
The dinner team was not responsible and threatened my life, when I ordered my dinner and told them my very dangerous allergies, they still used the substance I mentioned when I told them and asked for a newly made dish, not just remove it, because I am worried because of the mix of substances, I carry an emergency injection for it. Guess what happened? I couldn't believe my eyes when I got the same dish with the substance removed, I am not stupid nor blind and such careless behaviour deserves maximum punishment.
Breakfast is good, food is presented in a wired method, however, the breakfast team is very kind, professionally helpful.

Fantastic view - rooms OK, but a bit dated. Breakfast was good. Service at the beach was fantastic. Bar had no atmosphere, and no visitors. reception staff and shuttle service was very good. They have all possibilities with this location and this view to fill up the restaurant and bar every night. We tried the restaurant first night. The restaurant and the service from the waiters were rude and without any edication in service. Menu was wrongly translated to english. We ordered Caprese Salad (typical Italian). They served a tomato soup with a very hard ball of Mozorella. When we made a comment, the waiter said that we should be happy that at least it was cold.....
Main course was grilled fish. We asked the waiter what kind of fish, and he informed us that it was Seabass. When we got it it had a very small piece of fish ( 50 - 60 grams) and quite some pieces of octopus and 2 prawns.
Unfortunately we are alergic to shellfish, so we ate the vegtables. The fish was grilled way to much - way to dry and no taste. Tranlations should have been grilled seafood, and the waiter should indicate that it was not only fish....
The rest of the time we had GREAT Italian food from a resaturant in the village 2 km. away, and the owner picked us up and transported us back to the hotel. We found out that a lot of the guests from the hotel went to one of the 3 restaurants in the village for the same reson as us - not satisfied with the hotel service.....

We had a wonderful stay at The Grand Excelsior! The views are amazing. The breakfast was very good. Antoinetta at the front desk was fabulous! We would definitely stay here again! Large spacious room with a beautiful view of the ocean.
The shuttle bus to town was fantastic!

I am rating this hotel 5/5 because of my interaction and experience with Laura, the front desk agent. Wow, Laura is the definition of customer service going beyond her call of duty. We were a day late to check in for our prepaid reservation due to road blocks from Sorrento to Amalfi. When we arrived at the hotel we explained our situation to Laura and she was quick to show compassion and understanding to our situation. She told us that she would find a way to keep us at the hotel another night to compensate for the night we lost. The next day after check in she had confirmed that we were able to stay for our third night as the nights we had paid for were for 3. She is a marvellous asset to the hotel and hospitality Industry as a whole. She was helpful, kind, professional and amazing at her job. She turned a negative situation into a positive one and my fiancé and I couldn’t be anymore grateful for her. Laura she be recognized in every way possible. Grazie mille!!

A very beautiful hotel! The hotel has a great pool, amazing private beach club, and fair priced dining. Breakfast was included and had lots of delicious options. The hotel has great balcony views and a complimentary shuttle service to the private beach and into the city center.
However, most of the staff here was very cold and unwelcoming. When checking out, the hotel tried to add additional charges (such as $110€ laundry charge when our laundry was 34€). Be wary and review your check out receipt before paying and keep track of what you buy!!
Overall, I would consider looking into other hotels in Amalfi before immediately booking this one again. My partner and I spent three weeks in Europe traveling to different countries and cities but this hotel had the worst service. This hotel was the most expensive so it was disappointing the service didn’t match the price. The exception to this behavior were Giuseppe (Peppe) and Clara, who were both exceptional!! If everyone was like them I’d give place an instant five stars.

The check-in experience was very fast, and the staff were very friendly and supportive. It is true that the rooms are a bit old but once you get on your balcony and see the view, you wouldn't want to leave the room.
The hotel offers a shuttle service that take you to the hotels' private beach as well as to Amalfi downtown with frequent timings. I had the chance to use the private beach and it is very clean.
The breakfast is very rich, and the staff are very smiley and supportive. the view at the breakfast is just amazing.

I simply do not understand the negative reviews. We had a FANTASTIC stay at this truly lovely hotel. Amazing views, superb service, and a cool friendly vibe. As for getting into town, um, yes - you have to take a road! And if you know anything about the Amalfi Coast, you'd know they are twisty windy roads. If you want to stay in the noisy center of town, you are free to do that; the nicer hotels in Amalfi are up the beautiful hills.
The shuttle is easy to book - it always came on time - and takes you into town or to their private beach club, which it seems no one here went to. Do you like sitting directly on the ocean in your beach lounge chair under an umbrella while someone brings you drinks and snacks to your little table? Me too.
Eating breakfast on the covered veranda with these grand ocean views is also wonderful. The pool is beautiful; the bar is a place James Bond would drink. It's not precious and perfect in every way, and sure parts would benefit from a refresh. But our room was large and cool and comfortable with a tiled open shower that was terrific. We appreciated our dedicated staff and friendly service, and the vistas and our balcony with a stunning made our trip perfect. Not sure where everyone else was staying, honestly.

If you're contemplating a dream vacation on the Amalfi Coast, I urge you to steer clear of the Grand Excelsior Amalfi Hotel. Underneath its spectacular vistas lies a grim reality of discomfort and deceit.
Don't be fooled by its inviting name, as this hotel is a nail-biting 50-minute drive away from the heart of Amalfi. Trust me, it’s far from the idyllic stroll you might imagine.
Step inside the rooms and you're in for a carnival of disappointments. From relics posing as furniture to a sputtering air conditioner, the amenities scream neglect. Let’s not forget the shower door - a contraption so flimsy it seems to have a mind of its own, deciding to baptize the bathroom floor at its whim.
But wait, there's more! You might just find some uninvited six-legged roommates eager to share your stay. Yes, bugs! Nothing makes you feel more at home, right?
And if you dare seek assistance from your booking agent, in my case, American Express Platinum Travel, prepare to be met with a chilling cold shoulder. No help. No refund. No mercy.
In summary, don't be blinded by the enchanting views. With the Grand Excelsior Amalfi Hotel, you're signing up for a ticket to discomfort, inconvenience, and frustration. Future travelers, you have been warned!
