The grand continental hotel in Siena was 5 stars! From check in to room service, maid service, bell service, restaurant service all was first rate. You will not be disappointed. I had heard this hotel was the best from my daughter who spent her honeymoon here in Feb. 2018. The hotels location is right in the middle of the historical town. You can walk everywhere and we did. I can’t wait to return.

I’ve wanted to stay at this hotel since my first visit to Siena 25 years ago and it certainly didn’t disappoint! What a beautiful hotel just a few steps from the Campo and Duomo. We had a luxury room with view and it was fabulous - a nice sized room with a very high ceiling and a gorgeous view over the rooftops of Siena towards the Duomo and the countryside beyond. The salon is beautiful and the frescos are original from when the palazzo was built. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had the wine tasting and dinner experience in the cellar which was amazing and something I will never forget. Overall, an outstanding stay and we’d love to return one day.

The hotel is very nice! Everything is in high standards, from the incredibly high quality staff to the well designed areas in the hotel. The bar is a wonderful place to sit and talk meanwhile planning the next day. Also, the wine tasting experience is a must. It is about an hour and the master of the wines, Massimo, does an incredible job to explain the world of wines (especially in Tuscany). We will come back to Siena, and to the Gran Hotel Continental.

Simply the best hotel in Siena!

This hotel made our trip to Italy and was easily the best of the three that we stayed in. They upgraded our room, at no charge, and we had a private balcony with a stunning view of the city. The room was a bit small (as most are in Italy) but the amenities made up for it, complimentary water, robes, slippers and the bed and pillows were very comfortable, even had towel warmers! The room service was great, we were exhausted one night and ordered pizza (which was excellent) and they brought it up on it's own table right into our room. This may be normal service for some but for us, it was a first and we felt like we were treated like VIP's, don't question, just book this hotel!

Gorgeous hotel in the heart of Siena. We arrived following travel nightmares
(No luggage for 5 days) and Giancarlos at reception was the breath of fresh air we needed at that moment. He was unbelievably knowledgeable and kind. His dinner rec for our first night (fonteguisto) led to our favorite dinner in Tuscany. And he magically obtained us dinner at Trattoria de Guiseppe when no one else could. Our room was a double upgrade thanks to amex and Giancarlos. I just can’t thank him enough for his hospitality. I wish I could just convince him to move to America and work for our business. He is incredible at that position and what hospitality used to be like but is so rare to find these days. Our tour guide when she heard we were staying at the Grand Continental was so impressed and said it was the best in the city- I agree.

The hotel had a great location. Nice room also. Decent size. Old but not bad. So easy to walk around from there. But the main reason for my review is the staff. The front desk was amazing. We had some rough travel and Giancarlo was so warm and welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The rest of the team also. They got us reservations at two excellent restaurants. They helped call the airport about our baggage problems. Just excellent service, clean room and a great location. Perfect.

Pros:
-Amazing location- centrally located to all sites for tourists (esp: first timers!)
-great customer service
-cleaning service was quick and thorough, turndown provided + free waters/biscotti
-Noon checkout was very appreciated
-loved breakfast: zero issues (as noted in previous reviews) Huge delicious buffet + tons of options. Great coffee.
-Our Jr Suite (room 240) had an amazing view of Siena. So beautiful! Room had no street/city noise.
-The historic quality of this hotel is beautiful- explore the ballroom, sitting room, wine cellar, etc.
Cons/FYI’s;
-AC in our room was loud (we didn’t mind- but we sleep with a noise machine so we’re used to fan noise)
-Hotel is very historic and as much as we appreciated that charm our room could use a cleanup/paint refresh on the baseboard trim, new carpet and a bathroom upgrade. Nothing is bad just a bit tired.
-Bed is firm. Not a surprise for Europe but a note to prepare for if you prefer a soft bed. Pillows were great.
All in all- we would definitely book again! We saw all of Siena from this hotel and loved the convenience of its location. It’s the best centrally located option.

I was so excited to stay at the nicest hotel in Siena on our trip and we stayed here 2 nights. After the first night, I woke up covered in bites. I told my husband I thought there were bedbugs and he thought I was crazy. I was itchy all day and had about 10 to 12 bites all over my body. The next night we were up all night. He started getting bites as well. We told the hotel in the middle of the night and they said that we must have left the window open. We let them know we did not open the window. They let us switch rooms, but the damage was done. The next morning they apologized and said they misunderstood with the language barrier and thought that there were flying insects in the room. They told us that they would refund us for the entire stay because of the inconvenience and how grossed out we were. We showed the front desk lady our bodies covered in bites and she apologized and said she would refund the entire stay.
When I got home and still had the charge I called back and they said they didn’t find bugs and wouldn’t refund us. No contact from them at all they just changed their mind. A simple Google search will let you know how challenging it is to see and find them. We certainly saw them a few times after leaving this hotel on our stuff. This was such a disappointing and disgusting experience. We had to go launder all our clothes in the middle of our vacation, couldn’t bring our luggage into any other hotel after this, and the fact they think we would make this up when we showed them our bodies were covered in bites is appalling. Not 5 star service or cleanliness, don’t stay here.
