We just finished our first trip to Anguilla - 2 weeks at the Fountain Anguilla. We love the location. Our one bedroom apartment was very spacious, clean and comfortable with great views. The staff headed by Prudence was very helpful with the ferry, car rental and dinner reservations. We have been to several Caribbean islands and this is now clearly our favorite. Looking forward to returning next year.

First time to Anguilla and we picked a winner with Fountain. We had a 1 BRM Pool view Penthouse and it was great. Nice view of the ocean and the pool. Great balcony with a dining table with 4 chairs and 2 other nice "lounges". Well equipped kitchen to allow us to eat breakfasts in other than a couple of visits to Le Bon Pain for some French treats. Met a number of really nice people that were staying there - post beach dip in the pool. Ate locally at Artisan, Pit Stop by Ben and Hibernia - all were terrific - make reservations. Prudence will set you up if you don't feel like doing it your self. Also ate a Veya and Straw Hat. Hard to get a bad meal on the island. We did a half day sail & snorkel with Tradition, hike and cave tour with Katouche led by Boston (with 2 B's), night kayak with Liquid Glow led by Lynn and an Island Tour with Clemvio at Quest. All are very worth doing. All in all got to 11 different beaches. What made Anguilla unique for us was the combination of so many great beaches and dining options. We've found that dining in the Caribbean is usually either fairly limited or mediocre.

We had a great experience staying in the Tamarind unit. Billed as 'the penthouse', really that just means the third floor (and there is no elevator), our unit was very comfortable and roomy. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we were able to store jugs of fresh water in the large refrigerator and warm up some leftovers in the microwave. The living area had a large television and plenty of seating with doors leading out to the deck with had two seating areas. The bedroom was incredibly large and the bed was extra-comfy. The bathroom was also spacious with a walk-in shower. Safe is in the bedroom which is where we stored our passports. The walk to the beach isn't bad, just maybe a five-minute walk past the pool and down the hill. We didn't use the pool, but it looked clean with plenty of pool-side seating. We would stay here again.

We’ve just returned from 5 nights at Fountain Residences, completing our first trip to Anguilla. We cannot wait to return! We went into this with several beliefs about Anguilla: it is the culinary capital of the Caribbean, it boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the people are known to be the most friendly and welcoming. We also knew that it was known to be the playground for the rich and famous, which, to us, meant ‘expensive’. So, we sought to confirm or refute all of the above. With decades of Caribbean travel under our belts, but no visits to Anguilla, we faced a challenge. We wanted to prove to ourselves that we could experience Anguilla in an authentic way whilst also not sending ourselves into bankruptcy. An airline deal shifted planning into full swing, and we began to research accommodations, with no idea about locations on the island. Like usual, I used online forums to crowd-source insight from experienced visitors. I knew I didn’t want a large resort experience where the expense of each night made me feel obliged to use the resort amenities and sit on the same beach each day. We fancy ourselves as travelers, not tourists, who desire opportunities to immerse ourselves in culture, people, cuisine, music, art, and of course, landscape. We like to maximize our dollars, seeking the best our money can buy but also at a rate which makes us feel good about whatever happens. After much research and comparing (isn’t the research and planning half the fun??) we confidently selected Fountain Residences, a choice which was celebrated by online communities of experienced travelers. We secured a penthouse studio, which everyone said was large enough to be considered a small suite, completed with living area and beverage/snack alcove. We were in the building closest to the ocean/beach, with sweeping views of both the ocean and the pool from our balcony. Prior to arrival, our communication was perfect. Questions were quickly answered, and pre-arrival guides were helpful. Due to a family emergency, we had to cancel and rebook, which was done with ease. The studio was lovely – on the third (top) floor of the building, which yielded vaulted ceilings which made it feel even more spacious. Furnishings were British West Indian (British Colonial Plantation) style, which I’d come to adore following an article about this style in Architectural Digest. The elegance of the furnishings and customized built-ins made the room comfortable. The built-in wardrobe offered everything from sliding pants racks, lingerie drawers, abundant hangers, a safe. The beverage alcove offered a tea kettle (how British of them!), coffee pot, microwave, plates, mugs, wine glasses, utensils, coffee, tea, wine opener, paper towels, dish sponge and dish liquid. Also, you’ll have a small hotel-sized fridge (with freezer/ice tray). Bathroom: larger double vanity with more customized built ins with plenty of storage and electrical outlets. No clutter on your vanity as shelving tucks everything nicely into place. The shower ‘room’ has dual shower heads and serious water pressure. I was surprised to find such a generous water pressure in the Caribbean, which was a luxurious experience after a long day in the sun and sand. Balmain amenities are offered in shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. The shower is open room style large enough for two to shower. Bedding: This is the highlight! The bedding was sublime! I’m an admitted pillow and bedding snob and this felt like heaven. White on white sheets and comforter. Four fluffy pillows (down, it seemed). Headboard was colonial plantation cane. Air conditioning was provided by a new, ultra-quiet split which kept the room cool and comfortable. Room was complete with abundant windows, and double sliders opening onto ocean view terrace. Just outside of the entrance to the room is a private laundry alcove – full-sized washer and dryer with ironing amenities. Our studio was a lock-off to a larger suite which offered a full-sized suite with full kitchen, living room, dining, another oceanfront balcony and separate bedroom. The studio was plenty large enough for us. Grounds: well-lit paths wind through a lush, tropical setting of palms and tropical plans, inclusive of plantain trees. Property footprint is small, so moving about is quick and easy. No long meandering to and from the car as is the case with large resorts. The place is efficient. Beach access: Took us less than 5 minutes to walk down the paved path to Shoal Bay East, one of the most celebrated beaches in the world. This end of Shoal Bay is wonderfully quiet and private. A quick stroll up the beach will reveal the amenities and activity of Zemi Beach Resort, with its restaurants, lounges and people. On July 4th we watched fireworks from Zemi and then walked back to Fountain the dark, using our phone flashlight – and it was perfectly fine and safe – easy to navigate. Proximity: Fountain is the last guest resort (condo) on this road, so it is very quiet and residential (high end) at this part of the road. In the evening, you’ll enjoy island tranquility without the lights of other resorts and restaurants. We didn’t face the Zemi side, so not sure what that looks like at night. We also walked along the road back from Zemi one afternoon and that was super easy and convenient. The paved road ends just after Fountain, so there really isn’t any traffic in this area. Nearby dining: Shoal Bay East offered us so much in the way of dining and music. We could have enjoyed a different restaurant along Shoal Bay for lunch and dinner each day of our trip, without ever leaving Shoal Bay, but we also easily ventured to other areas of the island. Do not miss the opportunity to head into Island Harbor, which is even further West. Breakfast/Brunch at Le Bon Pain was a highlight – chocolate almost croissants, French bread, sandwiches, etc. We wish we’d found this place sooner and had more time to sample extensive menu. Live music is offered along Shoal Bay at the various restaurants. We found live music every afternoon and evening. Last but certainly not least, the staff at Fountain were exceptional. Prudence expertly handled the details of our arrival and stay – and was just a text message away the entire time. She now feels like family – such a welcoming spirit. Sherri handled our booking and rebooking with ease and efficiency. I don’t know the name of the friendly gentleman who insisted on carrying our bag up to the third floor on arrival, and he literally closed the door, refusing to allow us to tip him…just wishing us a wonderful stay. When does THAT happen? We were pleasantly surprised. Fountain exceeded our expectations all around. At the end of our trip, we declared that we really liked the Shoal Bay East area and would like to stay there again as opposed to some of the more ‘touristy’, busy areas which we can easily visit but don’t need to be immersed in full time. After this first visit, we look forward to returning. There are many lovely places to stay on Anguilla, suiting every budget. We feel fortunate to have crowd-sourced such great advice and been directed by the experts to this location.

The fountain was PERFECT for our stay. Spacious, functional and comfortable - we could not have found a more special place for our first (not last!) trip to Anguilla. Situated a 3 min walk from the Shoal Bay East , we were in the oceanside penthouse - Taramind Suite. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious with amazing storage space and our kitchen/livingroom was comfortable, functional and attractive. The grounds at this residence are kept beautifully and there is a quiet, intimate and friendly atmosphere about the place. Rent a car - run to the grocery store or Ben’s pitstop for dinner. The island is easy and fun to explore. We can’t wait to go back - it’s truly a gem.

April 21, to April 25, 2024 We had a wonderful experience at Fountain Anguilla. Merlyn and Prudence were a pleasure to work with leading up to and during our stay. The property is beautifully landscaped, well-maintained, offers ample lighting and is a short 5 min walk to a beautiful white sand beach and within walking distance to a few restaurants. Free outdoor parking in the property. Our room "Seabreeze" was wonderful - - clean, well-maintained and thoughtfully decorated. The mattress was very comfortable as well as the pillows. The towels were good quality. It was a nice surprise to stay at a property that offers quality toilet paper. More electrical outlets would have been nice, but we worked with what was in the room. Highly recommend the Fountain Anguilla!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fountain Anquilla. We stayed in a studio suite which had a drip coffee maker , small microwave and small fridge. It was even better than we imagined! Remember there are only stairs to your unit, no elevator. Housekeeping were great and there is a washer and dryer on each floor so you can pack light! The walk around the corner to the beach was always fun and felt like a tropical escape. The complimentary chairs at Tropical sunset was a plus! The pool at the fountain was great and very quiet. We were the only ones there. The studio units are a lockout to the two bedroom units. You can definitely hear the adjacent unit that has a full kitchen, stove etc so there was ‘kitchen noise and conversation that spilled over. It did not bother us at all but could other people. A car is definitely recommended if you want to reach out to other areas. Taxi’s are available but can certainly add up. Prudence hooked us up with a driver and that was awesome. I have rented a car on former visits but just didn’t want to drive this time. The Zemi Beach House Resort is right next door to Fountain and we absolutely loved dining there or renting their beach chairs. (That was an awesome deal FYI and we did it 3 times.) I found the food at Zemi well priced and the portions generous. Highly recommend renting chairs and having beach service there. $50 /chair and you get that back towards food and drink credit! I will definitely stay here in the future. The beach is spectacular and Prudence the property manager puts the P in PERFECT!

Introduction: Finding Our Island Retreat When my fiance and I started planning our return trip to Anguilla, we had a crystal-clear vision in mind. We dreamed of a cozy apartment with an ocean view, where we could indulge our passion for cooking even on vacation. The moment we saw the enchanting kitchen featured on Fountain Residences' website, we were captivated. What's more, the resort's idyllic location on the pristine shores of Shoal Bay East, a beach that had already stolen my heart during my previous visit in February, made our choice easy. Booking our stay was a breeze, thanks to the professionalism and kindness of the property management team at Refined Retreats. Sherri and Lori, in particular, were exceptional in addressing my numerous questions with patience and precision. Their guidance and assistance in selecting the perfect accommodation for our 15-day island adventure made us feel like we were making the 'right' choice. We also rented an SUV from Andy Connor, and we can't recommend him enough for hassle-free car rentals. Location: The Oasis by the Ocean The location of Fountain Residences is undeniably one of its most remarkable attributes. Nestled just a short 2-minute stroll away from the enchanting Shoal Bay East, this property offers a uniquely elevated perspective. Most upper-level apartments grant you at least partial ocean views, a breathtaking sight to greet you each morning. Perched adjacent to the esteemed Zemi Beach Resort, Fountain Residences boasts a serene ambiance with a backdrop of villas and vacant lots, ensuring a tranquil and peaceful retreat. The only delightful 'disturbance' in this calm haven is the occasional visit from friendly roosters and chickens, enhancing the island's charm. During our stay, the serenity was unparalleled, making it an ideal place to relax, unwind, and recharge. It's worth noting that there are a handful of beach bars and restaurants within walking distance, including Zemi, Gwen's, and Tropical Sunset, with a few more further up the beach. However, dinner options seemed limited, so having a car to explore the island is advisable. Nevertheless, if your primary aim is to bask in the beauty of the beach and embrace tranquility, Fountain Residences is the perfect destination. Accommodation: A Tale of Two Penthouses It's important to note that both penthouses are situated on the second floor, and there's no elevator, so be prepared for a bit of a workout. Pack light, or consider it your daily exercise as you head up ;) Our adventure at Fountain Residences began with the "Windsong" penthouse in the poolside building. It charmed us from the start with partial ocean views and an expansive balcony that quickly became our happy place. It was furnished with a dining set, two comfy lounge chairs, and the essential coffee table - perfect for soaking in the stunning surroundings. But the real star of the show was the kitchen. It was a home cook's dream come true, equipped with everything you could ever need, and then some. The island kitchen flowed seamlessly into a cozy living room with inviting sofas, a large TV, and, of course, those high ceilings that brought a refreshing airiness to the space. The bedroom was a sanctuary, boasting an oh-so-comfy bed, luxurious cotton sheets, and the kind of pillows that made you feel like you were sleeping on a cloud. The en-suite bathroom had dual sinks, a roomy shower enclosed with sandblasted glass windows, and everything you'd want. Here's where our adventure took an unexpected turn. An issue arose in our first penthouse, and this is where Fountain Residences truly shone. The local property managers, Merlin and Prudence, acted swiftly and professionally. Pablo, who is in charge of maintenance, was a true gem during our stay. He not only helped us with the luggage but also brought an extra touch of warmth to our experience. Always friendly, happy, and ready for a chat with me in Spanish - his native language, being from the Dominican Republic, which happens to be another favorite destination of mine. We were promptly relocated to the ocean side penthouse in the adjacent building. The ocean side penthouse elevated our experience. It was even more nicely furnished and decorated, and we couldn't get enough of the direct ocean views that greeted us each day. While the property might not be brand new anymore, it's very well-maintained and exudes a tropical charm that felt like being at home. We did notice some ongoing renovations as we neared the end of the season. However, they didn't disrupt our experience in the slightest. In fact, having the entire resort to ourselves during the last week of our stay was an unexpected luxury. Fountain Residences is what we'd call 'simple luxury,' and we'd return in a heartbeat. Beach Access: Your Own Slice of Paradise Accessing the beach from Fountain Residences is a breeze. It's a short 2-minute walk along a paved path, which then meanders through bushes before arriving at the stunning Shoal Bay East. Although you won't find beach chairs and umbrellas provided, our visit during the off-season turned into a delightful surprise. With Zemi Beach closed for the season, we practically had the entire beach to ourselves. The beach itself is like a postcard come to life, with the most incredible turquoise waters and clear, warm waves. This is the Caribbean at its finest, just as you'd imagine. And there's more to explore. Apart from the path leading to the "most western part of Shoal Bay East," the beach stretches much further. You can take a leisurely 20-minute walk to where it continues as Shoal Bay North Beach. Fountain Residences goes the extra mile by providing each guest with vouchers for complimentary beach chairs and an umbrella at Tropical Sunset. This welcoming spot is only a 10-minute walk via the beach or a quick drive further up the beach. It's an added bonus that ensures your beach days are even more comfortable and enjoyable. Pool & Amenities: Relaxed Convenience Fountain Residences offers a cozy, well-kept pool - a perfect spot to unwind after a swim in the ocean. The pool deck has comfortable lounge chairs with soft cushions for your relaxation. At the entrance gate, there's a handy shower to rinse off the salt and sand from the beach. You'll find the property managers in a small office by the pool, ready to assist you throughout the day with any questions or help you might need. There's ample parking and lovely gardens to enjoy. Each apartment has its own laundry room with a washing machine, dryer, ironing board, and iron, making it easy to take care of your laundry. One interesting thing to note is that each apartment consists of two separate units. One has a bedroom and a kitchen, while the other is more like a studio without a full kitchen. They're connected by a door, which is locked if only renting one unit. But if you wish, you can rent both units to have a two-bedroom apartment. If you rent only one unit, you'll share the laundry facilities with the other, keeping things practical and convenient. Service & Staff: The Exceptional Team The heart and soul of Fountain Residences is its exceptional staff, and we can't say enough about them. In particular, we'd like to give a special shout-out to the local property managers, Prudence and Merlin. They were not just fantastic but also incredibly professional. When you needed your space and privacy, they were like shadows, always giving you room to breathe. But the moment you needed them, they were right there, ready with a friendly smile and all the help you could ask for. Their dedication and professionalism truly make your stay memorable. And then there's Pablo, the wizard of maintenance. He's not just great at his job but also a super friendly guy. He always found time for a chat in Spanish and was a huge help with our luggage. The entire team here is amazing and makes your stay a true delight. We also want to express our gratitude to the diligent cleaning staff, who ensured that our apartment was sparkling clean. The level of cleanliness and upkeep was truly impressive, making our stay at Fountain Residences even more comfortable and enjoyable. Dining & Entertainment: Beachside Choices While Fountain Residences doesn't host its own restaurant or bar, the options for dining and entertainment along the beach are abundant. Here are a few notable choices listed in order of proximity to Fountain: - 20 Knots at Zemi: Unfortunately, it was already closed for the season during our visit. - Hank's: Though we were eager to visit, it seemed to be closed whenever we tried. - Gwen's Reggae Bar & Grill - Tropical Sunset Restaurant & Bar - Olas Tacos - Madeariman - Elodias Beach Bar: Home to the most delicious Piña Coladas in Anguilla! Keep in mind that as far as we know, there are no dinner options available directly on Shoal Bay East. So, having a car at your disposal is recommended to explore other dining spots, such as Meads Bay or Sandy Ground, where you'll discover a wider range of dining choices. Shopping: Savoring Local Flavors Groceries When it comes to grocery shopping on this charming island, we found two good options that met our needs perfectly. Both Best Buy East and Proctor's supermarkets offer a wide variety of products, and their prices are quite reasonable, especially considering how expensive everything is on Anguilla. The staff at these supermarkets were not only friendly but also incredibly helpful. We appreciated their guidance and the warm atmosphere as we shopped for our essentials. Best Buy East, in particular, stood out for its excellent meat selection, offering local chicken breast on sale, and clean and fresh (imported) beef as well as some seafood. For fresh produce and a slightly wider variety of vegetables, Best Buy East was our go-to choice. It made shopping for ingredients to cook our meals a delightful experience. If you enjoy cooking with fresh fish, take a drive down to Island Harbour and chat with the local fishermen around the docks. In the afternoons, you might just find them selling their daily catches. It's a wonderful way to savor the authentic flavors of Anguilla, right from the sea to your kitchen. Don't miss this special chance to relish the island's freshest seafood. Spirits & Wines Our search for spirits and wines led us to Tropical Distributors, where we found an impressive selection of rum and other spirits. If you're a wine enthusiast, you'll also be pleased with their choices. It's a great place to stock up on your favorite beverages. We did find good red wines at Best Buy East as well, and their prices were reasonable (for an island). In addition to the larger supermarkets, we discovered a hidden gem in "Island Supermarket" in Island Harbour. This local store surprised us with its extensive rum collection, featuring options that were not available at the bigger supermarkets, and all at reasonable prices. We even stumbled upon a bottle of "Flor de Caña" from Nicaragua, a delightful find for rum connoisseurs like us. So, whether you're looking for everyday essentials or seeking out unique spirits, Anguilla has a little something for every taste and budget. Happy shopping! Conclusion & Rating: A Gem to Return To Fountain Residences has won us over, and we can't wait to return to Anguilla. We've fallen in love with this place – the cozy apartments, the relaxed ambiance, and the easy access to one of the most breathtaking beaches and oceans. What sets Fountain Residences apart is the feeling of being in a home away from home. There's an undeniable charm here, where time slows down, and you can truly appreciate life's simple pleasures. An absolute hidden gem on Anguilla. Quiet, peaceful, gorgeous! Basically have the pool all to yourself. A very short walk (3-5 minutes) to a spectacular beach. Walking distance to several wonderful restaurants. The units are well equipped with all the comforts of home. Sit on your spacious balcony and enjoy the breeze, read a book, enjoy a meal, take a nap or just decompress. This was our 2nd visit to Anguilla, and we chose Fountain again. Never disappointed. The staff is pleasant, helpful and always available. Anguilla has many accommodation options to choose from but our favorite is Fountain Anguilla on Shoal Bay E. You will not be disappointed. We will be back!
