So whether it is just a getaway or your honeymoon, this is the right place. Some of our favorite staff were Angel, Efren, Gustavo, Rubi, Yessi,Roque, Diant, Cesar, Roger, Anyi, and Aaron. If you go and run into any of them, say hi from Montana for us, they’ll remember!

We just returned from a 10 day vacation at Excellence Play Mujeres. We got off to a rough start with a couple of problems that I wasn't too happy about. But then Vilma Montalvo, the Guest Relations Manager, got involved. Over the next ten days she was absolutely fabulous, making sure we were being taken care of. Her attention to detail, along with checking in with us everyday to make sure all of our needs were being met was much appreciated. Our last night there she arranged our dinner reservations at Magna Restaurant (our favorite as we ate there three times). Rose petals on our table along with a special dessert made our final night very memorable. In addition to Vilma, we would be remiss without mentioning the staff at Magna. We had the privilege of being served all three times there by Miguel. He was a wonder waiter and had a great sense of humor dealing with the six of us. Also the restaurant manager - Jesus was also very pleasant and accommodating. The food was really good, but the combination of Vilma, Miguel and Jesus is what made the restaurant special. The other restaurants were also quite good, I would highly recommend the Italian restaurant - Oregano, especially if their special for the day is Spaghetti Bolognese. The resort itself was beautiful. We had a wonderful room in building nine facing the main pool. The room was an Excellence Club Junior Swim-up Pool View. We spent most of our time on our private patio. It was hard to leave as we didn't have to play to towel game to reserve chairs poolside. Also because of our wonder server - Lucy. She would be there at 10 AM every morning taking our drink orders. After that, another drink would just show up before we even asked! Along with keeping us hydrated by bring water along every time. By the end of the ten days we all loved Lucy! Thank you again Lucy, Vilma, Miguel and Jesus. You are great ambassadors for Excellence and made our vacation special. We are planning to return to Excellence Play Mujeres next winter. We just want to make sure we get the same room(s) and that Lucy, Vilma, Miguel and Jesus are there to once again provide the excellent service that we enjoyed on this trip.

My wife and I returned for 2 weeks to this resort based on our own 5 star experience for 10 days last year. The food, the grounds, the beach and the working staff remain 5 star- it would behard to top these aspects. Unfortunately service has distinctly slipped year over year. We paid to have the Excellence club upgrade which last year meant a concierge in each building. Now there is only a concierge in the main Excellence check- in. There is a long wait to check in and no one gives a tour of the grounds, facilities, or room. The bellboy drops off the bags and you as a guest must figure out everything on your own, as phone calls to the central concierge go unanswered and unreturned. We were fortunate to have the assistance of the main desk manager to respond to our concerns . Room maintenance has also fallen off. Our roof top plunge pool constantly leaked resulting in free standing water in the walking area, and the shower tubing cover had dangerous metal fraying. Minibar was only replenished at our request / insistence. Restaurants seem understaffed leading to longer wait times despite tables being available. We discovered that smoking regulations are unenforced. All of this is rectifiable to bring back a 5 star experience.........otherwise 4 star prices and descriptions should be expected.

This was one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had at a hotel. Overall, its a nice hotel with solid food, but be VERY CAREFUL if you are splurging to buy any room that is "Ocean Front". They are essentially running a scam with false advertising. I just got back from this hotel last week, which was our 10 year anniversary. We bought one of the their best rooms, which was the rooftop suite OCEAN FRONT. This was booked back in August 2024. When we arrived, we were like 5 buildings back nowhere near the water with nothing but a far VIEW of the ocean (which, of course, ocean VIEW is a completely type of room that they sell). So essentially they are trying to make more money but labeling things as ocean FRONT when they are really ocean VIEW. It was very frustrating since we paid such a high premium and was a special trip for us. We spoke with Management who said there was "nothing that they could do". They gave us an email (not a phone number) for customer service who we have reached out to 5 times with no response. This is not an acceptable business practice to be treated this way. At best, we should be refunded for the room we actually stayed in which was ocean VIEW. Not even sure where to go from here since the hotel is completely unresponsive, which is surprising considering its rating on this site and alleged reputation. So I will continue to fight this on principle, give them bad reviews, and warn people not to stay here or at least be VERY careful what you are booking.

Let me start by saying this was our SIXTH visit to Excellence. I am reviewing our experience as compared to our previous experiences. Some of the differences might sound "petty" but we all pay a premium price to stay at EPM and we have had amazing visits there in the past. First and most importantly, the STAFF IS AMAZING!!! Every staff member was friendly , knowledgeable and helpful especially at the Excellence Club Beach. This remains a strong plus for EPM. We enjoyed the restaurants with the teppanyaki at Spice being our favorite. We stayed in an Excellence Club 2 Story Rooftop Plunge Pool Oceanfront. Please remember I am comparing this visit to our previous 5 visits. When we arrived, we were not greeted with the wonderful "welcome home" and champaign. Somebody took our bags outside and told us to wait inside to be escorted up to the Club Lounge for check in. After several minutes a staff person walked up and handed us two glasses of champaign and then left. Several more minutes went by and a bell boy picked up our bags and brought us to the Excellence Club Lounge. This is where we first noticed a decrease in staff. There was one person checking people in with several couples waiting. In years past there were always 3-4 people checking everyone in. Our friends had to wait 45 minutes just to get checked in! Eventually we were escorted to our room in building 8. The room was as expected but definitely was starting to show wear and tear. There were cracks in the floor tiles and several outlets and switches were loose. Excellence no longer uses Bvulgari products. The new products are not nearly as pleasant as Bvulgari. Bar soap is no longer provided nor were individual bottles of shampoo and lotions. ( We certainly missed them, but the lack of these products does not play a part in this review.) Moving up to the rooftop plunge pool we found the area to be dirty and dangerous. There is a shower to wash sand off before you enter the pool and pieces of wood AND NAILS were scattered about. Can you imagine stepping on any of this? We had no idea if or when the pool was last cleaned. Needless to say this was extremely disappointing and dangerous. We tried the jetted tub in our room but the drain was stuck and wouldn't open to drain out the water. There was standing water in the tub when we arrived!! Yuck! As for housekeeping, twice our room was not cleaned and we had to call to have it cleaned. Twice the room was not turned down. The snacks and refrigerator were replenished haphazardly with items continually not replaced including beers and chips. Now for a very important change.... THERE ARE NO CLUB NOR BUILDING CONCIERGES. Even though most everything tells you to contact the concierge for anything. Including the welcome letter we received upon check in, even though it is listed on the website, and app. If you try to use the room phone and press the concierge button, there is no answer. Our friends had the same problem a couple of times when using their room phone for room service. When it came time to check out, nobody called us regarding bag pick up. We carried our bags to the Excellence Club and again waited to get checked out because there was only one staff person present. We wondered if the lack of staffing was due to the recent opening of Excellence Coral up the beach? So looking back on our six days, we had a fun time and the staff were excellent in every way. Obviously EPM has declined compared to our previous 5 visits. We are saddened that this most likely was our last visit to Excellence. We have enjoyed our vacations spent at the resort but for us at least, it is sadly time to move on to another resort :(

The staff at the Excellence bring us back time and time again. The ones who made it most enjoyable this trip include Monica, entertainment manager, and the rest of her staff. Andreas, Jesus, and Vincenzo, in particular, were so much fun and always made a point of reaching out to us . Monica surprised my husband by getting his picture on shirts for all the entertainment staff for a special volleyball activity that made our stay. The pool wait staff of Yesse and Floricel are amazing. Yesse brought us a snack even though she was not our server when she had an extra one just as a surprise. Floricel took it on himself to get peach juice for them to use at the bar for a drink that I wanted even though they don't usually have it at that bar. He was not even our waiter. They are friendly and inviting, always. Tonetia and Zavier at the Kitchen Table and Los Olas anticipate our needs before we even sit down. Antonio, who took care of us at the Mexican fiesta, was hilarious and very efficient. No trip would ever be complete without thanking Cesar for the amazing drinks and martinis at the martini bar. The rooms and grounds are beautiful and so welcoming. I just wish the food wasn't quite as good because it makes the clothes fit a little tighter after all the meals we got to enjoy. Can't wait to go back again next year!

My wife and I had a 10/10 stay the Excellence Playa Mujeres. The premises were kept in perfect condition with our room being cleaned and stocked twice a day! We almost made it to every restaurant and all of the food was great. The beach was very clean with beautiful white sand and blue waters. The activities scheduled were engaging and offers a ton of variety. What really took this trip over the top are the amazing staff they have at the resort. Everyone was really kind and treated you as if they have known you for years. Special shout out to Dadne, Jesus, Yakov, Vincenzo, and Johnathan hope to see you all again soon!

This was our 4th stay at this resort and 5th excellence resort. We also booked an excellence club room for the first time. When we arrived we were informed that the room we booked was no longer available and we would now be in a category of lower than what we purchased. We were disappointed however we decided to shift our mindset and enjoy. We had a lovely time! The room was nice, the food and drinks delicious. The staff at this resort is so over the top! The pride they exude in what they do is so professional and friendly. We decided to address the “downgrade” issue when we checked out and it was handled very well (even with my husband having a bit of an attitude). We are typically not repeat vacationer’s however this resort always leaves us wanting to come back again! We have visited here since 2010 and it is still consistently excellent! Alex at the excellence club beach concierge was so fantastic!! Thank you for the sad monkeys our last day….what a cute touch! See you next year! Tips…. Unpack and enjoy it all!! It’s all a positive experience…relax and unwind…it’s easy to do here!

This was our second two week stay at Playa Mujeres Excellence and we couldn’t have been more delighted with our experience. The entire staff are efficient, delightful and wonderful. Jacqueline Zacarias, the guest service manager personifies “excellence” at Playa Mujeres. Jacqueline is an intelligent, competent professional who surreptitiously took care of all our needs and requests. Her personality and professionalism incorporate all the qualities of a top executive. She calmly and with genuine concern made us feel valued as a guest, listens and makes decisions on the spot. She demonstrates the loyalty and pride of an owner promoting, defending and protecting the Excellence brand. She has her hands on and finger on the pulse of the clients needs and requests and is aware of the staff’s personal strengths and contributions. Jacqueline is an organized team player and genuinely a lovely human, emanating friendship and deep genuine concern for all the guests at Playa Mujeres Excellence. To quote her “You are important”. We wish her continuing success in all future endeavours.

I had my wedding at Excellence Playa Mujeres on March 1st 2025 and here is my review of the place and process! Resort: the resort is really beautiful. Even though it was at capacity, it never felt crowded. The grounds are lush and impeccable. The staff is always friendly and attentive. The food was very good, with Agave and Basmati being our favorite restaurants. It's definitely not a party resort, but the evening activities are fun and entertaining. It mostly caters to couples or small groups of friends in their 30s and up. Weddinf booking process: Communications with the booking department are very slow. We blocked our date about 1 year in advance, and it took us about 3 weeks to finalize the contract. The contract is very comprehensive and it answers most of the questions one may have. They do not require any payment to block the date, besides reserving the room for the bride and groom (refundable). After that, they give a promocode that guests can use to book as part of the wedding with a group discount. They do not offer room block, which is not really an issue as there's almost always availability. Wedding planning process: we were first assigned Paola Ortega as wedding coordinator, but a couple of months before the wedding we were switched to Estefany Negrete. Communications (emails only) were very slow until about 2 weeks before the wedding, but we were made aware of it. We did a site visit 3 months before the wedding and had the chance to select the menu (with tasting) and visit the available wedding locations. Estefany guided us through the site visit and we soon realized how knowlegable and professional she is. She answered all our questions and was very reassuring. She was also extremely accommodating with our preferences. About 2 weeks before the wedding communications with Estefany definitely picked up! We exchanged several emails and had a couple of phone calls. She welcomed with enthusiasm and suggestions every idea we threw at her! By the time we left for Mexico, we had everything planned! Estefany is very much on top of everything behind the scenes and executed our wedding weekend to perfection. She also constantly checked in with us while we were there, and was very reassuring throughout the whole process. I wholeheartedly recommend any future couple to trust her, she's incredibly resourceful and will make it happen! We met with her for our final meeting the Wednesday before our Saturday wedding and went through every single detail, even though not much was left to plan at that point! As part of our welcome party Estefany helped us organize a Pottery Painting and Mexican Spirits Tasting (called Mixed Experience). Every single one of our guests loved both the activities! The Pottery team was great, and Hugo Hernandez, the sommelier, was incredible. He's fun, entertaining, and knowledgeable! Resort Spa: The Spa is gorgeous and very relaxing. The bridal suite is very comfortable. I showed Ignacia, who did my hair and makeup, plenty of pictures of what I wanted and she checked with me during each step. She absolutely delivered! They also brought me sparkling wine and charcuterie which was great! Overall we had an incredible wedding weekend and everything was absolutely perfect. Estefany Negrete is incredible and she's a real pro, we'll never be thankful enough to her for making our stay truly special. The resort is beautiful and every single one of our guests had an amazing time.

My story starts on Expedia, which in hindsight was my first mistake. I booked a vacation package for excellence playa mujeres at the end of February for an April trip in the amount of 2,816 dollars. We had to cancel days later due to unforeseen circumstances. This company refuses to refund any money, even when offering up a cancellation fee. We had several different Expedia supervisors trying to contact them and failing. Only one was able to get through after about 10-15 attempts of phone tag, emails, left messages and long hold times with no answers just for them to say no and that they have a very strict no cancellation policy. So, in short these people are crooks. All of these amazing reviews of customer service are only to the people trapped on resort, which is 40 minutes away from downtown Cancun by the way. Life happens, vacations get cancelled, people get sick, kids get sick. I wouldn’t recommend anyone make a booking here unless you want to take that gamble and you have a backup vacation fund, because you might just be out 2,816 dollars. Terrible management, terrible customer service and a terrible hotel group. I will continue to plaster this review on every travel review website I can find and will be reporting this hotel to international consumer protection. Be very careful with these people, all they want to do is rip you off.

We stayed at EPM in 2022 and had such a good time decided to return for a second visit . We have just returned  and were not disappointed, if anything it was better Apart from the immaculate grounds and the delicious food , what made it so special for us was your staff . Everyone we met whether gardeners, bellboys, housekeeping and concierge teams, treated us with great courtesy as valued guests and part of the family. We stayed in the Excellence Club and must give our special thanks to Alejandro, David , Emmanuel ,Alex, Benjamin, Jesus, Alan, Jose, Jorge, Oscar, our hostess and Marce the chef .Enrique in the Kitchen Table at lunchtime was  a very pleasant young man. Unfortunately I can't  remember everyone's name but they all worked so hard, yet always had a smile or a kind word for us. Nothing was too much trouble. For example I had a almond croissant for breakfast but left some . Jose asked if there was a problem and I said it was cold and so a bit hard . Every morning after that he heated one ( actually two) for me . Jesus arranged a special table for us in Magna for our wedding anniversary, although it's ctually not until July! The only disappointment for my husband was that it is closed season for lobsters . However Jesus went to check if any were left, there weren't but he asked chef to prepare some sea bass for us . It was delicious. We thanked Marce the chef Jorge in the Excellence Club bar always made us laugh. He's such a character and Emmanuel on the beach kept us well supplied with drinks. We would certainly recommend EPM and hope to be back next year

Fantastic resort beautiful beaches great drinks, good food. Would definitely come back. Would say it’s about the same as secrets maroma. If I came back would do a swim out room only thing i wish they had that’s secrets had was an iPad to order room service, had to call by phone had complications ordering at night. The rooms definitely do need some updating as well considering how much money we paid. I probably wouldn’t come back for the same price that we paid average around $750 a night. The service by the pool was by far the best we’ve encountered and the staff was amazing. Martini bars, definite go to if you want an espresso martini before dinner. I honestly thought the best food of the whole trip is the basic snacks like pizza by the pool, chicken and steak quesadillas and the fish tacos at Oregano were great. Food at their other restaurants were just OK. Breakfast at the lobster house was very nice. The buffet was good. Room service breakfast could have some more options. I’d give this resort 9.0/10.

Going to Excellence Playa Mejures with our oldest son (still in school for 1 more year) and his beautiful, fun-loving wife was the first vacation we (my husband and I) had been on since 2013. Our son and I worked together to find a vacation resort in Cancun and Excellence Playa Mejures was exactly what we were looking for and we were not disappointed. We DID choose to join the Excellence Club and it was the right choice for us. We had Excellence Club Swim-up Suites and would want our exact same room the next time we go. Our private pool was where my husband & I spent most of our time. The water was warmer than the main pool and Lazy River and I’ll acknowledge unashamedly that I am a cold water wimp. The first day we were there, as my husband and I were unpacking, we could hear our daughter-in-loves’ laughter from 2 patios away. We went out to see what was causing such mirth because we wanted to be a part of that and we met Alex D, our pool concierge (in training) and we’ve never met someone so suited to a job. Alex made our stay at Excellence even more Excellent! I know that this is how he makes his living but it felt more like this is who he is as a person. He made every day brighter and full of more laughter. A couple was leaving as we were arriving and we saw them hug Alex as if they were family. We understood why before we left. He was juggling our often busy pool area and sometimes another, and along with another pool staff (we can’t remember his name (Excellence Club Building 7) drink orders kept rolling. We were never left waiting for long. We didn’t order any food at our pool but we saw that others did and it came quickly. Talking with Alex became a little highlight of every day and we actually missed talking with him on his day off. He was so fun and his energy and enthusiasm was infectious. He always left us laughing. He was my husband’s brother from a different mother! We tried almost every restaurant during our 6 night stay. There was at least one thing on every menu that I loved. I’m a picky eater but my husband is not. We enjoyed every meal plus the beachfront pizza oven (several times!). We ordered room service for most breakfasts. If you are a SERIOUS foodie, I wouldn’t say that this is necessarily your place to eat but again, I’m a picky eater. My son and his wife are more adventurous and made a point of trying something new every single day. They enjoyed that. We met every night for dinner and were never disappointed. The beach area was lovely. Most days were Red Flag days but the water was great for a little salt water play. There were more chairs under umbrellas than I expected to see. We found at least one empty umbrella every day. We went down to the beach at different times and didn’t have a problem finding a place to sit. The beach staff were always very friendly and drinks came quickly. If you are a smoker, be aware that the resort is smokeless except for one small area near the middle of the resort. The cigar bar is no longer there. It wasn’t an issue for us but I don’t remember seeing that anywhere on the website. I did hear people talking about that though. The rides to the resort and back to the airport (about 40 minutes) were fine. We loved that they made it easy to schedule. I don’t have anything negative to say about our stay at Excellence Playa Mejures. We even had a few Iguanas contributing to the entertainment. We will go back again and try to get our same room or maybe try one of the other Excellence Resorts nearby.

This is our 2nd trip to EPM, 3rd time at an Excellence resort. Beautiful resort, wonderful variety of restaurants, stunning white sand beaches and pools. But what makes this place the best is the staff! Caesar and Edgar at The Martini Bar, Yeudiel, David & Rubi at the Club beach, Edgar, Alan, Gloria and Marce at the Magna Restaurant. I know I'm leaving people out because there were SO many staff members that deserve recognition. Everything staff member smiled and greeted us every time we saw them. Grounds keepers worked so hard to keep the grounds pristine. Every morning tractors are out raking the beaches. So many activities to explore, go to the spa, go to the massive gym, tequila or mezcal tastings, arts and crafts, aerobics in the pool or do nothing at all! Our favorite activity was laying in our cabana on the beach, day drinking until mid afternoon, getting ready for a fantastic dinner and drinks at the Martini Bar and ending our evening with a live show.

Absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving week get away! This trip was our first time at Excellence Play Mujeres but our third time at an Excellence property. We stayed in an Excellence Club (EC) Junior Suite Pool View. We were in building 8 and loved the location! The room was clean, cool and comfortable! The staff were incredibly kind and attentive Julybed was our EC pool concierge and took care of us most days. Every staff member we encountered was lovely! Food was good and on par with other Excellence properties. The club lounge was a little small and felt cramped some nights but very lovely and the bartenders were amazing! We are not that big on the entertainment but did enjoy dancing on the silent disco night. We came the week of Thanksgiving and noticed more large groups than we did at other properties - could have been timing or just the EPM culture. Overall - a lovely getaway and we will return to this and other Excellence properties in the future!
