Reviews of EPIC SANA Algarve Hotel
Everything we would have expected and more for a five star hotel.
We were upgraded to a garden suite, as our chosen room was under going refurbishment. Everything was very comfortable and the duplex was cleaned and maintained throughout our stay. Staff were very professional and our stay was most enjoyable.
A good 5 star option for a winter break
Really enjoyed our stay, things may have been different in peak summer but you can only review against the time you spend. Service was brilliant from start to finish. The buffet breakfast was 10/10. Certain bars/areas were closed due to winter shut down so I'd be intrigued to see how...
Really enjoyed our stay, things may have been different in peak summer but you can only review against the time you spend.
Service was brilliant from start to finish.
The buffet breakfast was 10/10.
Certain bars/areas were closed due to winter shut down so I'd be intrigued to see how things are in the summer.
The trip to the beach via the hotel is stunning.
The rooms were clean and tidy as you would expect from a 5 star.
It was my partners birthday and they did everything to also make that special.
Only grumble is the Spa is very expensive for treatments so we avoided that and the dinner options were limited because of the price and season but luckily we ate out and found some great alternatives near by.
All in all if you want a little winter break then this is worth a look.

We had some wonderful moments at this hotel during our 2-night stay. The grounds are lush and well-maintained. The decor, done in earth tones, wood, bamboo ... was calming and reminded us of Hawaii. The indoor pool was clean and warm, and luckily, we were the only ones in it both times so greatly enjoyed our swims. The beach the hotel is located on (Falesia) is absolutely breathtaking, and we enjoyed walking the beach on both days that we were there. Our room was lovely, very clean with a beautiful view of the gardens and ocean. We watched the sun come up on our second morning, while enjoying a cup of coffee on the balcony. A very peaceful setting.
The customer service, however, needs to be addressed and/or tightened up. We had been travelling through Portugal, and were set to arrive from Porto for a 3-night stay. Despite the fact that we had booked our accommodation months before, just 3 days before our set arrival, we were informed by email that the hotel had no rooms on the first night, that there was a conference and that their system should not have allowed us to book this first night. Their 'simple' solution was for us to move our reservation forward one night. As many travellers can understand, this is easier said than done, incredibly inconvenient, and sometimes just impossible. We decided to cancel the first night and luckily found accommodation at the W hotel.
Because our trip coincided with my husband's birthday, we had booked a suite for the first night, which had to be prepaid at the time of booking. We were told that this amount would be credited to our 2-night booking in our 'regular' room. However, upon our checkout, they attempted to 'credit' us our first night at the price of the suite, rather than the room we had. There seemed to be confustion about how to solve this problem - and they were reluctant to just refund the first night and simply charge the rate for the second night. I have to say that I still don't know if I was credited properly or honestly. At the time of checkout, we were under a time constraint as our ride was waiting and we were on our way to the airport.
Something else occurred during our stay which seemed strange to us. We had asked the customer service representative to call us a taxi for a trip into Albuferia. We waited a long time ... about 30 minutes ... which seemed increasingly puzzling, since we were visiting out of season. We were just about to call our own Uber (which, in retrospect, we should have done), when our taxi pulled up - however it wasn't a 'taxi', but a driver, who charged us 35 Euros for the one-way trip and pressured us to book other rides/excursions with his company. Our trip back by Uber was 9 Euros! Wondering what the connection was with this driver and hotel?
Our experience with the customer service at this hotel cannot be compared to anywhere else we stayed in Portugal. We tried to be understanding, but something just does not sit well with us.

The hotel is beautifully designed and decorated, very stylish and maintained well, clean and tidy everywhere. Bed comfortable, bathroom not very private but you get used to it! Location good, lovely walk to beach and local supermarket, but that is it, nothing else around really.
Fitness classes and spa great, but no evening entertainment. One pool was heated, but the others pretty chilly in October, it was also coming to the end of the season, so felt pretty quiet and a few of the restaurants were closed. Hotel is big on conferences, which can make it busy at times.
The food is plentiful and of good quality, however after a week it was a bit samey, but if in high season you have more choice with the other restaurants being open.
Nice place to relax and be looked after, fairly good value.

Perfect paradise to enjoy Algarve!
Clean, beautiful, immense resort property with friendly staff. Fully equipped for spa, wellness and beach activities. I counted 5 swimming pools, 4 restaurants, an excellent hotel gym with a rarity: pull up bars! I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent staying in Algarve
Excellent hotel. We had one of the Ocean view rooms. Relaxing pools. Beautiful location next to the Sea. Super breakfast in the outside area. Extremely professional staff. In a nutshell: a wonderful gem on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

Aug 2024
We stayed in the hotel in August. Overall I found it to be a great family and couples hotel. The kids areas are isolated ands there are adult only restaurants i.e (only for above 12 years old) and adult pools
Bedroom
The bedroom are very spacious with plenty or storage space and a A California king bed.Their is also a spacious terrace with privacy walls to avoid your neighbor. Their is a table and a sunbathing chair. The bathroom although very modern, is quite non functional. It is open to the bedroom via sliding door. However the toilet stall and the shower door are the same. Yes, while you are showering the other person is next to you is in the toilet (0 privacy).
Hotel installations
Hotel installations are modern and new. Its a very contemporary style hotel. Their are several areas to relax around the hotel with a lounge bar, pool cafe, chairs along the pool. Hotel installations were clean the same as rooms. The internet is extremely slow especially at night whenever one is using it. I food this to be unacceptable in a hotel of this caliber. The beach is easily accessible from the hotel. It is A public beach. The hotel has balinese bed and chairs that you can reserve and pay separately. I was surprised their is no beverage or food service at the beach. You need to walk up long path to access the hotel. The hotel towels are available next to the pool area. Interestingly they do not take your room number. I noted people put the towels on the chairs to reserve and never come back. Their is no accountability. This blocks late pool arrivers or those that don’t reserve spots from finding a chair. Additionally the servers dont walk around asking if you would like to order food or beverages. You must request via a an application. Quite impersonal.
Food
Food is good but expensive. The hotel has a pool restaurant, themed restaurants and a buffet. The buffet I thought was quite simple and lacking food options. Most people eat from the grill that is made to order food. This results in long lines due to the slow speed of the chefs. Price/ quality the buffet is lacking.
Japanese restaurant: the decoration and ambiance of the restaurant is excellent. It is not a restaurant in my opinion for children (although their were children their). The sushi for example are artistically beautiful and on the pricer side. Here the incredible service and beautiful ambiance/ plates justifies the price. However it still is on the expensive side.
The Breakfast is excellent with a wide variety of seating, ample food options, and great service. The pool restaurant has several optional burgers, salad, fish. The food is good but the prices are high. We ordered room service. Our order took over and hour to arrive to our bedroom. We had ordered simple food: a sandwich, fruit, tea. These products are usually prepared in advance so should have taken max 30 minutes.
When they arrived they brought the tea without hot water. I was surprise for such a mistake.
Although the waiter quickly remediated the situation delivering the hot water to bedroom in 5 minutes.
Conclusion
Overall beautiful experience at the hotel. The service is excellent and the hotel staff are polite, welcoming, and resourceful. The bedroom except for privacy issue are very nice. However I think the price of food/ stay is too elevated when assessing as a five star hotel. I think 4 stars better summarize the experience.

Just returned from another stay at the Epic Sana - we don’t normally return to the same hotel, so that tells you how much we enjoy it. Having stayed twice also at the Pine Cliffs next door, we really feel this hotel is nicer and suits us better. The restaurants at the Epic Sana were of a very high standard, with a great breakfast too - best omelette station so my husband says! Staff were very efficient and helpful in all areas. The hotel is smaller than next door at the Pine Cliffs, which we found too big - but same type of wooden walkway access to the beautiful beach (148 steps, but worth it). Rooms were clean, modern and very quiet as this time we were located in the 2-storey block away from the main section. The bar area was great - last month during our visit to Pine Cliffs, I found my aperols were very weak, almost watered down by the pool bar - any aperol lover will feel my pain……but the aperols here were perfect!
We’ve already said we’ll be back again here :)

A beautiful hotel, well appointed rooms, daily cleaning and turndown services, comfortable bed and well appointed, polite, welcoming and helpful staff, delicious food, well kept grounds, great pools, short stroll to the beach - in short, perfect.
A must is a visit to the Japanese restaurant - totally amazing food and wine, served professionally and delicious.
A short stroll takes you to a small supermarket if you should need it and some local restaurants.
We would definitely recommend and will be making a return visit.
Thank you :-)
