We attended a convention at the Gonzales Convention Center. It takes a good 15 minutes to walk.
Bottom line, Yes, we will stay there again.

Great Place To Experience the Riverwalk

Great old hotel- It's an Art-Decco "skyscraper" and I think the lobby was a bank in the 1920's- the hallways on the room floors are terrazo and the room doors have glass panels in them on the hall side (Darkened/opaque because the door on inside is solid metal) but gives the feel of "office/bank" as you walk down the hallway. The building is on the National Register as are many buildings in San Antonio, showing the city's commitment to historical preservation..... great location just blocks from the Historical Market Square, Alamo and Majestic theater.... huge free breakfast and a great afternoon "Kick-back" spread of snacks/food (meal really) plus 3 per person beverages- alcohol or non... all included in your stay. Beds comfortable and rooms well appointed and staff friendly and helpful. Would stay here again anytime!

We stayed at this hotel that was listed as one by our Timeshare Presentation Getaway since we wanted to stay on the Riverwalk. Our hotel suite was on the 19th floor overlooking other buildings and streets. We had a view of the Americas & Marriott as well as other landmarks. The suite was very roomy and clean. We had access to a room size refrigerator and microwave with a small dining area. The large king size bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large.
Included in our hotel was free full service hot breakfast and also a Free Happy Hour spread that provided us with a full dinner if we chose to eat there, which we did.
Overall, our stay was very comfortable.

Ok, first the bad news:
Our stay got off to a terrible start. Our stay was in the middle of a 2 week road trip so we had a lot of luggage and personal items to carry to our room. When we arrived there was no one in valet, there were NO porters or bellhops to help, and there were NO luggage carts available. To make matters worse, our room was located in a secondary tower which means we had to take one elevator to the 6th floor, walk down a hallway & turn a corner, walk down another hallway & turn a loop on a ramp, walk down another hallway past a service elevator, turn a corner to find our elevator. Go up to the 9th floor, walk down another hall, turn a corner, walk down another hallway, turn a corner, turn a left & right… and there was our room. NOW… we had to do this while carrying ALL our own luggage and had to make 2 trips because the Drury had no one available to help us or help us find our room. HORRIBLE service from a 3-star hotel! Also, our room was hot when we arrived as no one prepared our room for our arrival.
Other frustrations:
* $40 a night to valet park your car is excessive.
* There is a free breakfast and happy hour, but the breakfast food was exactly the same every morning and was not kept warm. Our last morning our eggs were ice cold and they were completely out of some of the food.
* I wake up early so I paid extra to have a 2-room suite. I need a room where I can close the bedroom door while my wife sleeps and I watch the news, sports, or read a book. Get this… while the bedroom had a door, there was a WINDOW into the sitting room so I could NOT turn on the lights, NOT open the shades,, or even turn on the TV without it being a huge distraction for my wife trying to sleep! There was not even a privacy curtain to pull over the window to block the light. VERY POOR design!!!
* We never saw a single hotel staff member (other than service). No one greeted us during the day, no one was there to ask how we were doing, and no one was available for support if we had questions or problems (other than us going to the front desk).
The Good:
* The hotel is located in a great location close to the river walk, Alamo, shops, and restaurants. Easy walking distance to each of them.
* The room was large and spacious.
Summary:
* Drury is a brand-name hotel and I expected more from them than an “average” experience. Come on Drury, you can do better.
* 3-Star hotel with 2-Star service.
* With so many other great hotels nearby I probably would not stay here again.

Bed was great. Otherwise this hotel is like staying at a days inn. I was hoping for a nice reception, but the food is awful. The second night, we decided to just leave while the food was coming out because it wasn't worth eating, even if it was free.
40 years of buiness travel in nearly 60 counties: The worse breakfast I have ever seen in a hotel of this price range. Coffee in paper cups, no spoons, terrible food in an athmosphere worse then McCafe. Rooms oldfashioned but OK, but this kind of fastfood breakfast spoiled our whole stay
great location and amenities. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. We stayed in the San Fernando Tower. The room was large, quiet, and comfortable. The only downfall was that tower required quite a bit of walking and as I have only so many steps that my feet will handle,...
great location and amenities. Bed was comfortable and room was quiet. We stayed in the San Fernando Tower. The room was large, quiet, and comfortable. The only downfall was that tower required quite a bit of walking and as I have only so many steps that my feet will handle, I would have preferred that my steps were saved for the Riverwalk! But....it was probably a quieter tower of the hotel than the Alamo tower. Overall, the trip was great!
