Booked a nights stay as we had been given a Dakota hotel voucher as a present.
First stressful thing was the email voucher. It said to print out, no copies etc. Not having a printer we thought it would be ok to call and use the code attached. We decided to put extra towards a lazy Sunday package to save having to travel out for meals and experience the hotel itself.
Then when you look at the hotels website under “specials” a lazy Sunday , it says £20 allocated per person for evening meal or under “book a room” for a lazy Sunday it said Sunday special meal which would be £35 each for a 3 course meal etc or £35 per person from grill menu. Girl on the phone when we called to book said £35 allocated. This was fine for us as the basic price for the room plus a breakfast and dinner and possible complimentary late check till 1pm on the Monday came to just slightly more than you would pay individually.
Still a faff when we checked in as accounts need a paper voucher. Surely in this day and age when you can travel round the world paperless this gift shouldn’t have been so stressful.
Room given slightly earlier which was nice and cosy, decor as expected. Only had a shower which is a minus for me. Shower hose needed a bit more cleaning.
For dinner given menu for Sunday specials. Server didn’t seem to know how lazy Sunday worked when we asked.
For mains we both chose fish and chips was it was the only choice we would have eaten. It looked lovely but batter on both our fish was very undercooked. I could not eat mine as batter was too raw. I pointed this out when our plates were collected and was told the chef said my main would be deducted as it was not up to standard, so £25.00!! was deducted for my fish. Service charge is also added additionally.
Breakfast was even more disappointing. Probably the poorest selection I’ve had. Don’t know if this was normal or if hotel had run out of stuff after a busy weekend. Don’t drink tea or coffee so asked for a hot chocolate instead. Not sure if this was charged extra in addition to the £20 breakfast as drinks bill didn’t add up!
We had eggs Benedict . This normally means a toasted muffin but it was just served on a plain toasted roll. Not even a croissant to be had.
We checked out after breakfast. We initially seemed to be getting charged for a late check out too and told the evening meal was covered. I pointed out that I’d been told that a main was to be deducted but nothing had. It seemed we were reluctantly then given a couple of drinks we had had free instead of the meal deduction as nobody seemed to know what to do.
I’d stay again but eat elsewhere as there is a lovely selection of restaurants in South Queensferry.
Staff were all very pleasant but our stay was not the “seamless blend of Relaxation” as described on the hotels website.

Really difficult to fault this hotel. Clean, comfortable bed, excellent service. Enjoyed drinks in the bar and catered well to my gluten free diet at breakfast. If I’m being picky, then plugs closer to the bed to charge my phone, and better lighting to do my make up would be nice! Bit of a walk to the nearest train station, but an uber was only £20, not paying for parking and the cheaper hotel rate mean it’s still much better value than a central hotel.

We have stayed at Dakota previously & had a great stay but this time was different! We had booked a king room for our 1 night stay( using a voucher we were given as a wedding present though we did have to pay an extra £49 for the king room).
We booked a king room purely due to fact we are used to a super king size bed & knew we would struggle in a standard double.
On arrival we went up to our room we went to our king room to find a bed that seriously looked like a standard double!!
Now a normal king size bed you have a space between the 2 sets of pillows but this bed, the pillows fitted on the bed right next to each other only just!!
Also the room was tiny!!
Anyhow, on previous stays we were given the use of their shuttle bus for us and another couple down into south Queensferry but this time we were advised they no longer do this which we feel is a big loss both to the hotel & to staying guests as it’s quite a walk in to south Queensferry & an even bigger walk back up the hill to the hotel…. Especially in heels!!
We feel this is something that is really now lacking as an option for guests as know many people want to go down into south Queensferry when they stay there.
So, reception called us a taxi to come asap…… 45mins later still no taxi & only upon asking reception did they inform us that they were struggling to get one for us!!!
We ended up taking our car down & leaving it there overnight.
Thankfully we had been given a number for a local taxi company & managed to pre book one for later on that evening to bring us back to the hotel.
Fast forward to this morning after what I will say was a good night sleep in a tiny “king size” bed we went down for breakfast which was included in our room rate.
My husband originally planned to have the eggs balmoral but on seeing the loaded plates of the neighbouring tables full Scottish he opted to have that with haggis instead of black pudding.
His breakfast arrived & could only describe it as a budget version of what the neighbouring table had!!! And no haggis which they did eventually bring out when he asked them about it.
Overall very disappointed given how good our previous stay was.
Sadly we have another voucher…. Again a wedding present but after this stay we would be loathed to use it for an overnight stay now.
Orocco pier seems a better option now as similar standards of facilities but actually in south queens ferry.

Stayed here prior to going on holiday in late February. Very good experience and hopefully we will do again in the future. We chose to stay here as working out cheaper than our usual Premier Inn for a Friday evening. Our room was modern, shower fab, we both slept really well. We had a few drinks in the bar and staff were really helpful, suggesting a drink for me when I couldn’t decide from the many cocktails on offer. Every member of staff we came across were exceptionally pleasant and seemed happy to be at work.

I live locally and have years of experience since this hotel opened. This was by far the best visit. They have really upped their game.
I visited with my partner on my birthday and from check-in to check-out they could not have been friendlier.
Firstly, our room was upgraded and very spacious. Dinner was super, especially the attentiveness of their service. The food was superb and they even surprised me with a wee birthday gift.
All in all, a luxury experience at an affordable price and super-friendly, well-trained staff.

Lovely stay at Dakota on 19th Feb. Staff were all lovely and accommodating. Food was lovely within the grill. Only slight criticism is the bed was not to my liking way too hard. But that’s always a personal preference with people. I would stay again.

Beautiful hotel. Public areas are spacious, clean and well decorated. The rooms, although a little dark, are well appointed. The bed is comfy, the bathroom has all you need with a powerful shower and quality toiletries. We had the evening meal deal with a credit of £30 towards the food bill. However, given the prices, I honestly think this should be increased. The food was outstanding and the young man who served us, Connor, went above and beyond. I had the house wine which was excellent. We had no complaints whatsoever. I’d recommend.

We booked this hotel for an overnight as we were attending a show in Dunfermline. On checking in reception was very welcoming and pleasant. Hotel was immaculate with beautiful decor…… loved the dog ‘ Bridges ‘. Room was also immaculate, chocolates on bed a lovely touch. I had organised the indulgence package for Valentine’s Day which included champagne and chocolates in the room. Unfortunately this was not done. I informed reception ( Georgia ) of this matter and she rectified the matter very quickly, efficiently and professionally . Good job!
We hadn’t booked breakfast with our room but decided to have breakfast at the hotel. We went down to the bar and grill to see if this was possible and given a warm welcome. It is with regret that we both felt that £19 per person for a full cooked breakfast was a bit steep as bacon was too crispy for our liking and hot food came out too quickly, so was unable to enjoy the continental selection. Despite this our server Zara was very welcoming and professional.
Overall we would recommend this hotel and any other Dakota hotel and will be back.

Lovely hotel with a very relaxed feel. I did feel the hotel rooms were a little dark and would have preferred brighter lighting but that’s just me due to poor vision.
Location isn’t the best unfortunately and you feel a little trapped in the hotel but for a one night stay it was fine.
Drinks quite expensive, especially wine!
Stayed under the simply Dakota package and the evening meal was lovely. Breakfast was ok but I’ve had better.
Staff were all lovely and helped to create the relaxed and warm feel of the hotel so a big shout out to them.
Overall a pleasant stay but don’t think I’d stay again due to location and lack of amenities.

Always amazing service, super comfortable beds and lovely food & cocktails.
Junior suite came complete with a complimentary mini bar, and it was replenished every day. Bonus :-)
Parking here is amazing too, as we’re always travelling for work, so a safe place for the van is always our first concern. Happily the Dakota has masses of safe parking, cctv cameras and you can see the parking from your room too
WiFi is super fast. Both up and down, so getting a bit of work in, or doing teams calls is not a problem.
Can’t wait to visit again. Especially as the prices are Ssssso reasonable.

Nice hotel, lovely interior with a nice atmosphere (smells lovely too) .
Staff polite and helpful.
Had a couple of drinks in the afternoon and was charged 10% service charge for table service but though the drinks were brought to the table I had to go to the bar to order them. Food and drink were slightly expensive, whilst food was nice enough it was not great.
The room was and well designed, shower was great but for me personally it was too hot to sleep even when I turned thermostat down nothing seemed to make a difference.
I enjoyed my stay at the Dakota it felt like a more upmarket hotel but in my opinion there was room for slight improvements.

Another lovely stay at the Dakota. Great location with lots of things to do nearby. Staff really helpful and rooms of a good quality. Great views and good facilities in the room. Will be back again to stay soon. Highly recommend a visit to this hotel.
Excellent venue
Great service
Great value
Great staff
Great offers
Can’t fault Dakota south queensferry , from the moment we arrived we received 10/10 service and felt valued
Grill was outstanding food cooked to perfection
Previously stayed at other Dakota’s but this is by far the best
Good price for the size of room, the room itself was brilliant and staff could not do enough to either welcome you back or provide excellent service. The location of the hotel is well placed for exploring Edinburgh or the surrounding area, good selection of drinks and food.
Another fantastic stay, again from the minute we arrived the Staff were first class. Room was so comfy and breakfast was delicious. Just a great place to come and relax with Staff who make sure you are well looked after. Would definitely recommend.

This is an excellent hotel for an overnight stay and the staff were so attentive and friendly. We dined in the restarant in the evening and the food and wine was first class. Great variety for breakfast too. Highly recommend this hotel in South Queensferry.
The hotel is beautifully appointed throughout with a calm, peaceful ambiance. The staff are all friendly and professional but the staff in the bar/restaurant are absolutely brilliant and made our dining experience a real pleasure. We will definitely be returning and recommending the Dakota Edinburgh to our friends

Spot on for an overnight stay!
Tastefully decorated, ample size standard room, helpful and pleasant team and the parking was ideal. Stayed one night here for a trip in to Edinburgh, would happily use this hotel again and potentially other Dakota locations after this stay.

However, I upgraded and didn't feel it was worth the money. Lovely toiletries but none replenished, so very small quantity for 2 adults for 2 nights.Could hv done with our bin emptied etc but saw none from housekeeping. WiFi was poor and when called reception was offered another room which was kind, but we're already in bed and was trying to open important email.
Restaurant: ordered steak -medium, but in my opinion it was rare. I choked on steak which was very evident to other guests who want to help and showed concern. Steak was thereafter left on plate, including part which choked me. Restaurant or bar manager took my plate, but dis not ask if anything wrong, or was everything OK even though steak evidently left on plate. Neither did I send it back, wanted a nice coupe of nights as don't get far due to caring role.
Result, we did not use the restaurant the following night.
Other than that, it's a beautiful hotel. Had a comfy sleep, lovely shower and comfortable surroundings.
Thank you.

South Queensferry is not somewhere I would think of staying for a trip down Edinburgh way, but that may have to change based on our experience. Free car parking and nice quiet, well provisioned and spacious rooms made for a good night’s stay. A room temperature control system that actually works is also an always welcome bonus.
Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience the dinner experience due to late arrival, but the breakfast, although maybe not as extensive a menu as some, was fantastic. First question asked asked on going down for breakfast was whether there was any allergies, something which always reassures my Coeliac wife. We both requested bacon as part of our breakfast choices, done just slightly short of being burnt, and that’s exactly how it turned up, fantastic. Staff were friendly and efficient throughout.
Overall, a brief but fantastic stay, would not hesitate to stay here again.

Comfortable hotel, but noisy car park
This is a nice hotel to stay in, though we were woken up early every single morning we were there by noisy kit cars revving their engines in the car park. Seen posts on here suggesting its staff members as it’s so common, which would be concerning.

We have been to Dakota queensferry a number of times and again our stay was excellent, from the welcome when we arrived and throughout we had a relaxing experience. The rooms are most comfortable as is the bed, with quality toiletries and a shower you will linger in !
The staff in particular are extremely professional and also tremendously friendly, from reception, in the bar/ restaurant and the housekeeping staff, they are a credit to the hotel and themselves.
Our evening meal was well presented and delicious with a variety of menu to choose from, as well as wines to compliment the food, as it was my wife’s birthday she was presented with a special treat which was a lovely surprise! At breakfast the standard continues with generous traditional Scottish breakfast, ( the black pudding is a little spicy for me ) smoked salmon & scrambled eggs and more, there is also an extensive breakfast buffet.
If you have time before you leave for your next destination you will not be disappointed with a visit to the historic town of queensferry with views of the stunning three Forth bridges !
We will hopefully be back soon !

Have been a couple of times to the Dakota now and each time we have left disappointed. The room was standard, clean, acceptable for the evening. What let it down was that it was the room right next to the lifts, so the other side of our wall was the lift shaft. Neither of us managed to get a full sleep as all we heard was the lift constantly going up and down and the constant chatter of people getting on and off the lift. Why they have situated a room there is beyond me.
We chose not to have breakfast as it’s not very good, based on our last visit.
We would not visit this hotel again.
