So happy to come back every time! The staff, the weather ,the entertainment -McQ,Ashley,Shanae ..everyone works hard whether at the bar,the grounds,the restaurants, or any where else on the grounds.Everyone is helpful and friendly. .I can’t wait to go home again!!!

One of the best holidays we have been on. The staff were amazing, could no do enough for you. The people who stood out for me where Sanisha, Lloyd, bar staff Kareem (the photographer), Ashley and Shanae (entertainment), Natalee Bar staff were excellent. The food was amazing Bella Vista staff especially Duane the chef and Dane were so professional, the food in the main restaurant was very high standard there was something to suit everyone. We sat by the small pool for the first few days and was looked after very well by Alex, who was so helpful and funny. I cannot thank all the staff enough for making our holiday memorable. The most special person to me, was Jerome Johnson, aka "Fireball" (his nick name) who has a stall by the main pool on the sand. He is the most humble, kind, lovely person i have met in a long time. He is a huge asset to the resort. Anyone going to this resort must go and see his stall and talk to him. We were that impressed with the resort we have already booked to return next March 2026. If you have not been to Jamaica before i highly recommend this resort, you will not be disappointed. We stayed in an Ocean View suite E203 it was amazing. I really hope you take notice of my review, trust me you will NOT be disappointed. My husband and I have been to the Maldives 12 years on the row but Jamaica was the best. It was the best entertainment we have seen on holiday so much work went into events. Thank you Pierre (GM) for your wonderful staff for making our holiday speical.

wonderful staff, excellent food and tremendous facility (despite hot water failure, which was handled quickly). Great for couples like us, no small children, no 'singles scene'. very relaxing. Well maintained facilities with a nice sandy beach. Not crowded even when near capacity.

This was quite an experience. Perfect for a spring renewal of the spirit. Stone pathways winding through lush gardens with tall palms, cactus and flowers...with views here and there of the ocean. The old style architecture captivated the imagination, as well. Lovely beaches in coves, waves rolling in...peaceful...welcoming... The food...fresh...

The food...fresh fish daily...grilled, sautéed, prepared in authentic Jamaican dishes. Do NOT miss the GALA. Guests seated on the impeccably manicured lawn, in the evening, surrounded by tables of amazing food being prepared at the moment, decorate3d with ice sculptures and flowers. Soft music playing, wine flowing. I am pretty sure we will return. A fabulous stay for couples.

The grounds were lush, property well maintained, staff excellent and food delicious. Our first visit thoroughly exceeded our expectations. We met several guest who stayed there many years . We will return.

My husband and I went at the end of March - beginning of April. He had been to Couples Swept Away a long time ago and wanted to try a different location. Initially we were looking at Couples Tower Isle, but settled on Sans Souci as it reviewed a bit better. We were not disappointed! The Couples lounge at the Montego Bay airport was a nice touch, we enjoyed a couple Red Stripes before we were ushered to our shuttle. The shuttle driver, Austin, was energetic, friendly, and gave us information about the places we were passing. We befriended another couple on the drive and pretty well hung out with them all week! We were welcomed at reception with some sparkling wine and then taken to our rooms. Room: We got a deluxe garden suite in D Block, which ended up having a partial view of the ocean. We felt that we were pretty central to everything. The room was beautiful, fully stocked and comfortable. Once we figured out the A/C, we took care of the dampness issue. As a side note, we had called the front desk as our bedding was all very damp when we went to bed, and they sent someone from housekeeping up right away with all new bedding. Ivaney was our super sweet housekeeper for the majority of the trip. She came to introduce herself, greeted us with a smile every day and made sure to say goodbye when we were leaving. Food: We really liked the food at Bella Vista (beach bar) at lunch. The fish tacos and veggie burger were our favourites. Service was a bit slow on our last full day, but really, where are we rushing off to? Our favourite server there was Sanique - she was friendly and funny. The breakfast buffet was great, food was always the right temperature, with the staff constantly checking that the trays were stocked. Carol, the singing chef at the omelette station was an absolute delight, and even got some people singing and dancing along with her. The Gala and Caribbean nights were also fantastic, lots of variety and the entertainment was fun. I especially enjoyed the Caribbean night as I got to sample a lot of foods that I've never had before. The staff setting up and running the lawn dinners deserve huge recognition, that's a ton of work. We didn't really care for the Sunset Beach grill, but that said, we're pescatarian, so there wasn't a ton aside from salads and chickpeas for us to eat. Bars: We spent the majority of our time at the Sunset Beach pool bar. The standout bartenders for us there were Matthew (ask for his mango daiquiri) and Clinton (don't know what the drink he made me was, it was a secret - but it was yellow and delicious). Each bartender has a unique specialty drink that they make, but never tell you what's in it. They're all delicious, so do yourself a favour and ask for "dealer's choice". I get the feeling that they enjoy being creative at the bar. Once we discovered the martini bar, we were there every evening before dinner. They have a huge menu of tasty martinis (and a few off-menu mixes), the location is very pretty and the patrons are very social. Teiwani (sp) was the standout bartender there. We only went to the Balloon Bar once, it was after the jazz show was sadly rained out. They had the piano sing-along, it was a lot of fun and pretty raucous! Even the bartenders got in on the action. For all you "au naturel" people: the Sunset Beach area was, again, where we spent the majority of our time. It was our first time at a place like this, and it was less intimidating than I thought it would be. Everyone there is super chill, friendly and sociable (I honestly saw more socialising here than I did at the other beach and pool). We made friends with a lot of people there and had an amazing time! Shanae (one of the entertainment staff and an all-around amazing human) was there all but one of the days we were there every afternoon leading the activities like bingo, trivia and pool volleyball. She brought the energy wherever she went and really did a great job encouraging people to participate, you just couldn't help yourself! You would catch her all over the resort at all hours of the day, participating in the fashion show, singing at the piano and chatting with the guests at the evening shows. We took the advice we had seen here and other reviews and went to SSB on the first day - we honestly would have kicked ourselves if we had gone later in the week. No one was staring or being creepy, no one was soliciting anything, they were just there to chat, drink and have a good time. There were people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Diving: this is the part of the review where I give the biggest shout outs to staff: Kemoy, Andre, Christopher and Leon. They were all amazing and hardworking! They were friendly, knowledgeable, patient and concerned with safety. They went over procedure and hand signals before every dive, and made sure everyone understood. All of the equipment is well-looked after, and they made sure the BCDs and fins were the correct size before going out. My husband and I haven't been diving since 2018, so we took the refresher course with Kemoy ($75 USD PP), which took place in the main pool. We dove pretty well every day after that. None of the locations were that far from the resort (thankfully, as I tend to get seasick). There was a really cool shipwreck with some open caverns beside it, and other beautiful reef sites they take you to. Kemoy and Andre were the two dive instructors we had (Kemoy most days), Leon and Christopher the boat captains (they would also help you get in and out of the water). Andre very kindly "babysat" me on our first dive, since it had been 7 years since my last one and buoyancy control was an issue, he was very patient and kind. Kemoy and Andre made sure to point out cool creatures that wouldn't be visible to the untrained eye. We had a phenomenal time, and would dive with these guys any day! Overall, we were thrilled with our vacation, and the only really bad part was leaving. We were already planning our return in the middle of our week there. The resort and the grounds are beautiful, the food and drink are delicious, and the staff are exceptional. Until next time, Sans Souci!

This was our second visit to this hotel as we liked the small friendly offering that we had last time. There are only 150 suites at this hotel although it is fairly spread out over the picturesque but hilly grounds. We picked the garden view rooms ( although you could still get a limited view of the sea) in block G as we wanted the exercise to and from the beach and main restaurant to burn off some of the vaste quantity of food we inevitably consumed! As mentioned in all reviews the grounds are fab and well maintained and the rooms have recently been refurbished since our last visit. The beds and pillows are super comfortable and we slept well the whole time. The Aircon is also very cool and quiet All the staff are hard working despite the no tip policy, and once you interact with them tend to warm up towards you. We have been to Jamaica for many years and love the vibe, this is one of the quieter hotels believe it or not, and you can choose which activities to get involved in. The food and drinks are plentiful, we chose to eat in the main restaurant as there was more choice. The only minus point was that there was a boiler failure which resulted in tepid water for 3 days, however we received a credit for this on departure so I have not marked them down as it did not detract from the overall enjoyment of our stay.

We had a wonderful week long stay at Couples Sans Souci in February. Special memories include two marvelous dinners at Casanova restaurant and a never to be forgotten pool party on the last night of our stay.

It was so awkward that other guests would make a confused face or another expression to communicate annoyance to those waiting once they got their food. Our phone in the room never worked . We were directed “ to call” when we asked staff questions or had requests . We notified several different staff members each day that we were there that our phone didn’t work and it was never repaired. ( 6 days 5 nights) They have new QR Code that is supposed to be used to communicate with staff ( replaced their app) as well. The few requests made using the QR code were never acknowledged. If you like to walk the beach, this is too small to do so. Those wanting to walk along the shore did “laps”. The water was very rough. It was our first time in the area. I’m not sure if it’s normal , but other guests who were there before said the ocean was rough on prior visits as well. The catamaran was unable to sail on several days. Kayaks, paddle boards, wind sailing , snorkeling , and glass bottom boats were unable to be utilized 3 out of the 5 days we were there. There wasn’t enough to do with those activities off the table. It was a two hour drive from the airport. For that long of a time , go to Negril.

This hotel is undoubtably set in a beautiful location. Stunning fauna and wildlife abound. The restaurant staff are attentive and pleasant. The cuisine is plentiful with a good range of options. However during our 5 day stay, we were without hot water for 4 of them. We were offered no real reason and never kept updated with no recompense offered at all. The age group was 65 plus and the hotel offered numerous unwanted activities including pub quiz, volleyball and bingo, around the swim up pool. This crated a ‘Butlins’ style effect which was certainly not our style. Cheapened the whole experience . So with 4 days of cold showers, without explanation. The senior staff never tried to help and wanted to fob us off. a strange atmosphere all round. I will not be recommending it.

We spent a wonderful week at San Souci and would love to return again one day. Everything about it was great. Lovely spacious room expertly cleaned by Ivaney every day along with a hug if she saw us! Great food in all the restaurants and the service was exceptional. The lady who sang while she makes the omelettes in the morning was fabulous and made for a lovely start to the day. The staff put so much effort into arranging the Gala Night and Caribbean night which miraculously had been totally cleared by the morning! The grounds are immaculately maintained. All the staff were so friendly and helpful and seemed to enjoy their work. The evening entertainment was much better than we have experienced in other Caribbean hotels. Well placed for visiting attractions in the Ocho Rios area. Apart from the air con being a bit on the cold side at times, we really had no complaints.

On arriving very late in the evening having requested a quiet room, high floor, ideally in Block D, we were shown a 2nd floor room in Block G, a little away from main reception but nevertheless overlooking one of the 2 main entertainment areas. Mercifully the full-volume singing in that area ceased at 11pm, unfortunately the problems didn't end there. The room, a superior ocean suite, was enormous, but somehow devoid of charm or character, with large his n hers showers and sinks and a large picture window with a fine view over the ocean. But damp, and smelly: the bedsheets were damp to the touch and the whole room (and the entrance stairwell; think stark 70's council block decor) smelled fusty and damp. We called reception to inform them of the smell/damp issue, were assured by the duty manager that alternative rooms were available and spent a restless first night (admittedly whilst smelly, the room was fairly quiet during the rest of the night), and in the morning phoned the room manager to follow up on our room change request. This lady was spectacularly disinterested, came up to the room and didn't admit to there being an issue, eventually showing us just 1 available room in the same category, smaller, next to a fairly busy thoroughfare/walkway in Block D, and on the ground floor, but without damp and with a passable sea view. Standard of this room was goodish - Door had a 3/4 inch gap at the bottom and was in need of some repairs, but comfortable bed (albeit the mattress topper was too small and didn't fit the mattress), plenty of hot water and towels/robes (albeit a tad scratchy), decent toiletries etc. Cleanliness was exceptional with little personal notes/folded towelling animals left by our charming maid. Minibar was restocked at your request, all drinks are generally good with top shelf spirits and OK house wines (more choice available at a cost). Overall standard of the hotel = faded colonial and in need of some more rigorous TLC. Chipped and rotting woodwork, tired beach loungers, ripped canopies but with plenty of charm to offset the slightly tired feel of the buildings. Gardens are spectacular, with a varied range of landscapes/zones, and well maintained. Food = nowhere near 5 star, more like 2 or 3 and was our main disappointment. Breakfast buffet is the highlight, 7 out of 10, the singing omelette lady's delicious offerings were my main sustenance. Lunch in the main buffet area was OK, 6 out of 10, sometimes a little samey. Delicious soups, without exception. The beach grill area (burgers, tacos, hot dogs) was disappointing, both in variety, quality and occasionally service. Evening? Err... buffet restaurant turns into a la carte, we had grilled lobster that promised a lot but arrived cold - probably £50 of crustacean, just not treated with respect. 4 out of 10 here. Casanova = formal dining that tripped itself up again and again, 3 out of 10. Chewy undercooked beef and lamb felt it had been microwaved and poached, crepe suzette somehow arrived stone cold ?? Vegetables bland and flaccid. Bella Vista = Asian themed, this gets 2 out of 10 and 1 of those points is for the poppadoms. If your chef doesn't do Asian food, just don't offer it. Woeful. Daytime = amazing beach, not a lot of palapas (and some serial early-morning chairnabbers making sure their 5am start got them the pick of the shade), but natural shade isn't hard to find and beds are plentiful - this main beach is lovely, sheltered and cleared of weed/debris regularly, with water toys, snorkelling (free) and boat trips available at a cost, we did a bespoke trip with the watersports team that was just incredible. Spa and mineral pool area has way less space but sufficient beds and umbrellas, and lovely and quiet. Main pool sounded lively and home to large groups of bar leaners and beer chuggers (mostly American, some Brits). We didn't spend time either there nor at the naturist beach on the other side of the headland. Entertainment = almost too much, but a hardworking and varied offering of singers, acrobats, karaoke, dancing and a Gala night that really felt like "forced fun" most of the way through it (but seems popular). Staff = at the coalface, they are the lifeblood of this hotel. Bar staff, restaurant servers, watersports, maids, gardeners and entertainment staff are a solid 10 out of 10. Helpful, funny, a little sass and genuine Jamaican warmth (it's a strictly no-tips hotel, so nobody's working you for dollars). Can't single anyone out for special praise because almost without exception they are outstanding. Office/upstairs staff a little less obliging, perhaps a little overworked. On the whole, we probably won't return because the food is so far below par for a hotel that costs this much. There seems to be a huge number of repeat guests, so they are doing something right (most of these repeaters would be first up to dance, wear a shamrock hat, sing karaoke, and whilst some of these veterans complained to us about standards of food and rooms dropping, the entertainment/vibe seems to be enough to keep them coming back for now), and for sure and the location and grounds are quite impressive. The owners are sat on a goldmine, but we couldn't help feeling they aren't spending enough on maintenance nor the food offering, and there's only so much you can under spend on keeping it in the Luxury category, relying instead on your evening entertainment programme, before it degenerates into Butlins Ocho Rios, reliant on booze and laughs.

Always so friendly, always smiling and provided a great service whilst enjoying the pool bar. Nisam (I hope this is correct) our housekeeper was brilliant! Our room was kept immaculately clean and bed made every day which felt lovely getting into every evening! Probably the most comfiest bed we have stayed in whilst on holiday! Thank you! We will be back! X

This place is seriously top notch and thoroughly recommend. The grounds are just paradisiacal, almost like a high polished rain forest. We were in G Block and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else as you are high up with a sweeping view of the bay, a long balcony and right by the elevator taking you down towards the mineral pool. The room itself is newly renovated, excellent air con although it did omit a mouldy smell that was omnipresent, we weren’t in the room much so quickly got over it. Free mini bar, free bottles spirits etc. the room is large, lots of hanging hooks, double wardrobe, double sinks which are a few of the excellent features. Maybe slightly sterile and stark but it was up to modern standards by a large degree. Room service was all included, speedy and high quality….we had so many club sandwiches! Eating breakfast on the balcony was next level with the views. Short walk to reception, the coffee bar and Casanova. Talking of the coffee bar, which seems very much underused, they serve Blue Mountajn coffee and it really is exquisite, iced coffees and frappes in that heat go hand in hand. All restaurants are of a very high quality, we never had a bad meal. We preferred Casanova (the trousers policy is unnecessary) but it’s fine dining and you can order as much as you want. Dining under the stars was unforgettable. Palazzina was also amazing and a great view over the lawn. Breakfast is served there, great servers (ask for a cappuccino or espresso rather than the free pouring plain coffee) the selection can be a bit boring but there’s always something even if you just want a fresh juice made for you. The singing egg lady is iconic with her “welcome to breakfast” no matter how early. Lunch was best at Palazzina, the fajitas and Philly steak sandwiches were sublime. Lunch at the beach restaurant was ok, I was not mad keen in it but being inches away from baby blue and turquoise water was quite something. We loved dinner at Bella Visa, the chef is Indian and his Mekhanis were world class. We like to eat late, so took the 8:30pm slots…..by 9:30pm the staff were kinda looking like it was time for us to go……I get that as they just want to go home so we tried to hurry (but the food and atmosphere was so good it was hard!). Of course, all inclusive drinks and they are all premium brands….try the Bob Marley cocktail!! We loved the beach but shade is at a premium and this must be addressed IMHO. We did get some if you get up early and claim the shady areas. The sea is shallow and the sand super fine, even powder like. Snorkelling is disappointing. Water sports exceptional. The pool area is lovely and lots of activity going on at the bar. Whirlpool is far too hot!!! The mineral pool was divine but no where near enough sun beds!!! The veggie bar was good but some items always out of stock which got annoying. The let was the Jamaican and gala nights. It was impossible to get the same intimate atmosphere going compared to the restaurants, the food was an amazing quality but just got picked at a lot with entertainment not quite my style. I missed dining with my loved ones and was forced in to these events. We tried out the AN side and although it was very lovely and relaxing, it lacked the same high end nature compared to the textile side. Lunch was very underwhelming for example. There’s a lot of Americans grouping together and getting obliterated on booze. I did notice some of the guests bringing in that 80% ovenproof rum in, hiding their empty bottles not very well. That being said, it’s very private (perhaps not on the shoreline) and nice to have a dip in the pool and return back to the textile side for better creature comforts. We did hire a car and saw as much of Jamaica as we could, and would very much recommend! Overall our stay for 10 days were unforgettable, an impressive property and would go back in a heartbeat (even sooner if the airport drive was shorter!)

There is a lot to stay about this resort, but I'll start with the summary. A romantic, luxurious, picturesque resort, with attentive staff and top notch amenities and daytime activities. You can craft your own vacation, choosing quiet and secluded, or attend the activities and enjoy the party vibes. I don't attend a lot of 5 Star resorts, in fact, this was my first. I attended the resort in August. We were walked to the room, the staff doesn't expect tips. The room was huge! Clean, no issues. Great private balcony view, which is standard for all rooms. I loved sitting on the balcony and looking through the trees. The shower and washroom were so spacious, I felt spoiled staying in the room. They provide umbrellas in the room in case it rains. Towels were always replenished in the room and I think they did turndown service twice on some days! The minibar was stocked every day, 2 red stripe, a couple of fruit juices (which were great) and some water. We ordered rum and gin from the app and we got a full bottle delivered to the room (free). We also got a champagne bottle and card because they knew it was my girlfriend's birthday. The Martini bar is a must try. So many options! Open from 5pm-9pm. Make a point of visiting. There is a mineral grotto where you can just sit and enjoy the cold water. Fish can come in that area. There is also a mineral pool which was my favourite place for the week. I loved that they have this and that I was free to enjoy it 24/7. Pools don't close, so I enjoyed the mineral pool at night, especially with the great view of the ocean. There is a nice Jacuzzi close to the mineral pool as well. Sitting there you could also watch the ocean, beautiful when there were thunderstorms in the distance. The beach was wonderful. I went when the water was so warm it was like bathwater. I loved the beach. They have a private bay which was gorgeous. I found myself swimming with fishes that jumped out of the water. It was awesome. I participated in some trivia by the main pool swim up bar, some rock painting, tie dye, rum tasting, all free and amazing activities. Ashley ran these and she was super. The free room service came in handy on multiple occasions, like when we were too late for breakfast, wanted to sit on the balcony, and when we had to catch our early shuttle home. No complaints at all, it was on time and complete, tasted fantastic. While eating at the restaurants, there was live music, piano players and a violinist. Small touches that went a long way to add to the luxury. One of the restaurants was under construction but the other two were great. We sat by the beach and the water was lapping gently less than a meter away. It was my most memorable dinner ever. I made some requests and the servers were able to accomodate immediately! The resort also had a walking nature tour which was led by Hopeton, who was so awesome! He knew all the trees and plants, and animals and plenty of other details. Both my girlfriend and I will never forget this part of the trip. I recommend it so that you can appreciate the location and the work the staff do to maintain the beautiful resort. This is very important. They have an in-house tennis pro (Zuki) who is next level. Not enough guests were making use of his top class teaching on the resort's 2 courts. It was very hot, but Zuki manages teaching with appropriate breaks and provides water and towels. He is amazing and when I choose to return, he will be the reason. He truly cares. He even maintains the courts every morning, and after every rain. They even bring in outside professionals to help with the tennis program which makes this resort an excellent choice for anyone interested in Tennis. Lastly, the GM of the resort Pierre actually attended the events and took the time to meet with us and treat us like family. You can tell he cares about the place and puts guests first. I may have missed a few details but I think this glowing review does justice to this amazing resort.

We spent just over a week at Couples Sans Souci, and had an amazing time. The hotel is in beautiful location, set back into the cliff which really makes it feel intimate and special. The main beach is absolutely stunning and there is a variety of things to do across the whole resort but without feeling too big. There is a good range of watersports, activities but also a great main pool, mineral pool (which has a quieter vibe), and beach if you just want to chill. The Gala night was stunning, an incredible effort by the chefs and hospitality staff as well as the Jamaica night. Our room was on the ground floor of block D, a Garden Suite room. It was a really spacious and light room, with a balcony and a very comfortable bed. The ground staff do an incredible job, the whole site looks beautiful thanks to their hard work. So many of the staff were friendly and welcoming. and the food was great, especially in Palazzina, Casanova and on the Gala night. There is a wide range of healthy options and delicious Jamaican food, but the real highlights are the dessert and cake options. There were a few areas for improvement that would help elevate this hotel to meet the price point you pay to stay here: Bella Vista/Beach Bar restaurant - right on the beach which is lovely, but service is very slow and the food in the daytime seemed pretty average compared to the other places. On more than one occasion, the food was served cold and the sides arrived twenty minutes after the mains and drinks didn't arrive. Evening service was quite rushed and not as friendly as Palazzina and Casanova, with main dishes also running out. We stopped eating here and went to Palazzina which doesn't need a reservation and has excellent food. The resort pack on the website (called an app but it is an area of the website where you can find information and make restaurant bookings) which guests are directed to on arrival is out of date e.g. wrong information about restaurants, trips and additional costs. There is also a lack of other information e.g. not clear when activities and events are happening. If the hotel wants guests to use this to reduce enquiries and help guests, it needs to be overhauled and updated as it is not user friendly and not clear what is correct. Guest services - seemed quite disinterested in helping other than directing guests to the webpage which was incorrect or didn't have all the information. Room keys - our keys stopped working three times in ten days for no obvious reason which was frustrating. Parasols on the beach - very few and reserved from early morning (or the night before!), although there were plenty of loungers for everyone it would be good to have more options for shade during the day. Smoking - although permitted in law outside by the pool, there were repeat offenders who made the environment quite unpleasant when chain smoking. The hotel has a smoking area but if this was enforced, it would make it nicer for non smoking guests. Checking out - there was nowhere decent to shower and change if leaving later in the day. The hotel wanted $100 an hour for a late checkout despite the hotel not being full. This was disappointing. There is a shower by the spa but it would really enhance the offering to have better facilities for guests on their last day if their flight is in the evening. There is a preference for repeat guests who have certain perks such as reserving restaurants ahead of arrival. However, we always got a spot at the restaurant of our choice. Overall, our experience this time means we would like to return, hopefully if some of the points mentioned above are addressed it would make a stay even more special.

This was our first time at Sans Souci after going to Tower Isle the last two years. Overall it was a great week. It wasn’t crowded, plenty of places to sit at the beach or pool, never had to wait for food. This isn’t a complaint really but worth sharing for future first timers. We’d booked an ocean view suite but were upgraded to a beachfront room in B building. Sounded great of course and you’re central to everything. However, we’re more early to bed, avoid crowds people. For us the entertainment every night on the lawn got to be annoying. We were woken up at 1230 one night to someone butchering Don’t Stop Believin’ , and the other nights there was loud music until after 10. So if you like staying up later t and participating in the entertainment beachfront is for you. Service was great overall but we did have a couple of issues the first two days. ◦ Room service breakfast no silverware and only one coffee ◦ Dinner at Casanova-we had to ask for water and wine after waiting 15 minutes. When we asked about specials our server said “they’re still figuring it out” then she mixed up our orders We do want to mention some of the staff that provided great service ◦ Cecilia at Pallazzina ◦ Kimarley at beach bar ◦ Latassia-Bella Vista and Palazzina ◦ Shaquille at Casanova The food was excellent all week. Halfway through our stay we had already decided that we liked it so much we will be going again next year. Read past the initial bad bits – it gets MUCH better. Just such a shame that we lost our first day. Still the weather wasn’t that good so we wouldn’t have been on the beach anyway and that is definitely NOT their fault! As a couple in our mid 70’s, we are fortunate enough to have several vacations each year including 10-14 days in the Caribbean in late winter. Post Covid we have been to Antigua twice (Galley Bay) and last year to Nassau (Goldwynn’s). Couples was significantly better than either for us. We feel that we only have maybe 3 or 4 more years of these vacations so now we’ve found a resort that is as good as it will get for us. After the review I’ll list the pro’s and con’s. Please bear in mind our restrictions particularly that I am a non swimmer and my wife is allergic to shellfish and eggs. We managed to get Avios flights to Jamaica in BA Club Class and then researched resorts. I found Couples and looked for more info which came from Kate at Tropical Breezes. An excellent travel agent and highly recommended. She recommended Couples Sans Souci and we were glad we accepted her recommendation based on people we met at the resort who had stayed at the other Couples resorts. Due to strong headwinds our 8:20 hours took 11:40 hours so it was pretty late when we landed On exiting the airport with our baggage we saw a chap holding a sign for Couples Sans Souci. He asked us to wait with another couple down on the pavement. A third couple joined us about 10 minutes later then we waited almost another HOUR standing and with no refreshments offered. Eventually we all got into the transfer bus for the 2 hour journey to the resort. The bus was comfortable and air conditioned but again no refreshments and the bus is woefully underpowered. Surely they can have a coolbox with bottled water (and buy a better bus)! Next time we will solve this by taking a private transfer from the airport to the resort On arrival check in was quick and easy. They took $300 from my credit card which is unusual as most hotels merely reserve the money. As it was very late and all of the restaurants were closed they offered to send some food to our room. We went to the room ready to drop and were very disappointed to find that it was not the room we had booked. We waited and waited for the food and eventually rang reception to find that it was only cheese and biscuits so we cancelled it and went to sleep. Next morning we went to reception to ask for a room change. We had booked a premier ocean suite but were given a much smaller room. Even the fridge was on the balcony as there was insufficient space for it in the room. The receptionist was insistent that we had a premier ocean suite trying to argue that it was a different layout. Eventually she agreed to find us a better room. We had breakfast and went back to reception. They had found u a room but housekeeping hadn’t cleaned it. We asked to see it to make sure it was what we had booked but they absolutely refused. We had not at this stage unpacked and were still tired. Eventually I asked to see the manager who appeared very promptly. Samuel Henry was SO helpful. He took immediate control of the situation and said that he would sort it out which he did. It was almost dinner when we had the call to look at a room which was exactly what we wanted however as it was late we decided to have dinner and move in the morning which we did. As the airport bus leaves at 15:30, we also asked for a 15:00 checkout which they agreed to. I understand that this is normally available for $100 After breakfast we took the induction tour led by Jamaica’s only black Irishman (as he put it!) Great guy. Aside from this and one small incident later, the rest of the holiday was amazing. Breakfast is a buffet with an omelette station. Daily specials and plenty of hot and cold dishes and fruit. I’ll never understand why everyone always serves fruit slightly under-ripe. Maybe just my tastes. Another oddity is that we always have Burford Brown eggs at home so the eggs seemed very anaemic. English muffins were as good as I’ve ever had and my standard breakfast most days was 2 Bucks Fizz’, orange juice and 4 sausages in a toasted muffin with ketchup and a plate of fruit while my wife had coffee (Blue Mountain and apparently excellent) with sausages and toast with fruit salad. Unfailingly good. Then to the beach (actually my wife is an early riser and she went down the beach around 7:00 and I joined her for breakfast around 8:30). My wife reported that on several occasions the grounds staff took her beach bag down for her. They could not have been more helpful. The beach is without doubt the best beach we have ever been on. Other people said for example Rhode Island but as the temperature there is around 7 degrees, I would beg to differ! The beach is sandy with almost no stones, very fine sand, so gently shelving that you can go out 50 yards and still not be up to your neck and there is an offshore reef that prevents any real waves hitting shore. It is in a secluded bay so no real winds to whip the sea up. Perfect for a non swimmer. Oh and did I mention that it is lovely and warm? We lunched a few times. Two choices the Beach bar and the restaurant. Both excellent. The Beach bar serves burgers, hot dogs (REALLY good), chicken, fish etc with onion rings and fries (hint to chef - but no chicken wings or KFC style chicken pieces) whilst the restaurant has a good selection on the buffet changing daily Dinner is a choice of • Two nights a week there is a buffet on the lawn with entertainment. We weren’t that struck on the entertainment but you couldn’t hear it our room. The food was a good selection and very tasty. Like all buffets, things you like more than others. • Bella Vista Asian – we ate there once but decided there was a lot of shellfish so didn’t eat here again although what we had was excellent • Palazina – full service with a daily changing menu and a pasta bar. Always something we wanted on the menu so as the default (you have to book the Bella Vista and Casanova), we were always happy to eat there. • CasaNova- “fine dining” with a dress code. We like to dress smartly so I always take a linen suit but I think I was the only guy with a jacket – still…. Generally the food was very good. I had the pork one evening which was very tough but when I told the server, it was replaced with the lamb in less than 2 minutes so we were able to carry on regardless (that would make a good title for a movie). Service was faultless and the choice and quality of meals was very acceptable. This is not haute cuisine but very good food, well cooked and served with a huge smile. We were very pleased with the house red and white and never felt the need to buy better wines. A refreshing contract to other all inclusive’s we’ve been to in the past. We tried a lot of different cocktails at all of the bars and seriously enjoyed them all. They use premium branded spirits very generously and if you ask for “easy on the ice and heavy on the rum” then you’d better plan on only have two. All of the water sports are included. Although we only did the glass bottomed boat ride, one chap on the beach was out scuba diving 3 or 4 times a day. They have paddleboards, pedallo’s, canoes and more all available. Wonderfully, there are no jetskis. On our last morning, one appeared round the headland, had a look and went back. Good riddance I say. There were daily activities and evening entertainment which we did not really participate in – largely because we were tired by all that laying in the beach. My wife reported that the main pool was a bit cold but we loved the mineral pool. The Jacuzzi looked a bit scummy and steeper steps than my wife can manage so we gave it a miss. We both had really good massages – in fact I went back for a second – and next year I’ll pre book for day one to relax after the flight. I found the app (well it’s a web site actually) extremely hard to use and very counter intuitive to use. I never managed to log in and even after the hotel had logged me in, I still never managed to do what I wanted. In case you think it’s me, I have worked in IT for over 55 years and have over 200 apps on my phone that I actively use. We ended up making all our bookings at reception. One curious one is that around 6 pm one evening, we asked for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to be sent to the room. After an hour I rang down and was assured that it was in hand. When we got back from dinner I rang down again. Each time I was assured that it was happening. Next day the room service guy came round late morning but he had not received the order. We went down to reception and they assured us that it was on his list. After lunch we rang down again and were told it was on its way. After an hour I rang down again to see if it was being flown in especially from Chile. We asked them to just leave it by the door and when I looked at around 5pm it was there. 23 hours, 4 visits to reception and around 5 phone calls to get a bottle of wine! That was our only experience of room service but I glad I hadn’t asked for a hot meal! There are a lot of steps on the resort – my phone says I averaged 7 flights a day. There is a lift but I don’t think it was working during our stay. The gift shop had all the things we wanted so we never ventured off site. Housekeeping was excellent from the daily room clean and an evening turn down. Check out was easy. The bill was correct and I paid by credit card. Strangely they don’t credit the $300 paid on check in however I have just checked and the charge has already been reversed. The bus back was another long slow journey with a fun driver. The music got to be a little loud but he immediately turned it down when we asked. SO a summary + • All inclusive – from airport landing to airport check in • The most inclusive we have had • Good quality wines • Great cocktails • Good food • Lots of included activities • Great smiling helpful friendly staff • Fantastic beach • Clean spacious rooms • Good showers – hot with plenty of water • Very good value _ • A LOT of steps • Very poor online experience • 2 hour transfer in slow bus

San Souci Comprehensive Review The hotel is truly wonderful. The layout is sublime. You feel that the hotel has been incorporated into the beautiful natural surrounds (rather than the other way around). It was like a hotel in a rain forest, with beaches! The grounds had parrots, turtles, pelicans and Macaws (plus some friendly cats), even a few long tail humming birds. There are so many lovely quiet areas to sit and maybe swing in the many hammocks scattered around the place. We fell asleep in a few on our way back to our room some evenings! Our premier ocean view room (G201) was massive, with great balcony views over the foliage and ocean in the background, which made for some amazing sunset views. The shower enclosure was huge, as was the bathroom and bedroom. The air con (thankfully) worked a treat. Great balcony as well, with a double bed on it (we fell asleep on that a few times!). The only issue was it was a little overlooked by two rooms in block F to our left. It could do with a polycarbonate opaque shield to the left of the balcony for more privacy. The staff were fabulous, so attentive and friendly and we had many a good chat and a laugh with them. Even the hotel guests were some of the nicest friendliest people we have ever met on a holiday. The whole vibe of San Souci is very relaxed and friendly. The effort the hotel puts in to arranging gala nights and the like is tremendous. It takes them nearly all day to set things up on the main lawn (outside block B and A). The entertainment and quality of the bands was also superb (and I'm a musician that appreciates such things). The food was also superb. We also particularly liked going to the Martini bar for a few drinks before dinner. It is set in a lovely peaceful location on the hillside, high above the mineral pool area. The water sports team were also a great bunch of people and very helpful. You could do most things you wanted and I did (snorkelling, windsurfing, waterskiing and even a complimentary scuba dive thrown in, with great instruction). We like the fact it was a NO tipping resort, as we spoke to some others at Dunn's River who although were all inclusive at another hotel, were constantly (and almost, expectantly) giving a few dollars here and there to the waiters, just for doing their job and bringing a drink to them. The no tipping policy, takes all that awkwardness out of being served as you should be (this should be the norm). IF you were to be hyper critical of San Souci, you could say the beaches were not the greatest on the Island. The main beach is ok, but only about 4ft deep right out to the bouy markers and the waters around sunset beach itself are quite stoney (water shoes a must) , with a cold flow from the white river entering nearby, but apart from that, San Souci Jamaica is faultless. We spoke to some guests that had been there over twenty times, when they could go anywhere they wanted in the world, which says all you need to know about how good the place is. Pierre, the manager who we spoke to, is retiring after many years in charge and he must be very content with how he is leaving the place. We hope the new management/manager keeps everything as it is, as the old say goes “If it ain’t broken, don’t try to fix it”. All the staff were fantastic but there are a few we would like to mention in particular (sorry to those we missed out) Yeshekan the team leader in the restaurants for her lovely warm, smiley welcomes. Shanae and Horace: for serving us well (and Horace for getting us a table at Bella Vista when the booking app wouldn’t let us). Amoy: for all her service on our 25th wedding anniversary private meal in the most beautiful of secluded locations (well worth booking). Andre: for the great scuba lesion and taking me out for my dive (with Leon piloting the boat). Malachite and Morta: for their patience regarding my dodgy waterskiing attempts (finally got there) and also for their humour on the boat trips. Hopeton (one of the gardeners), who gave us a lovely impromptu tour of the garden surrounding the lake on morning. Lastly, who could not mention Carol, our lovely singing, omelette making lady?
