If you’re looking for a budget friendly place, somewhere that’s warm and clean with great staff, this is the place to be. It ticks all the boxes and I am soo glad I picked this as our place to stay in SF. There’s free hot coffee, tea and cookies at all times AND you get cocktail vouchers on arrival. The team are so helpful and kind. I can not speak highly enough of here.

Excellent Value Hotel But Angry & Rude Bellman Amazing value hotel. Great location. Older but very charming and well-maintained, with noticeable renovations to bathroom. Good size room, with an extra fan and heater in the closet, if we needed them. Thoughtful touches! Front desk staff was friendly & helpful. Bed was super comfortable, with lots of pillow choices. When we checked out, we asked to store our bags. The bellman tagged our bags, did not say hello or ask us how our stay was, and then walked away, leaving the bags, to take the elevator upstairs. When we expressed concern to the front desk staff, about our bags being left unattended, the front desk staff inquired with the bellman, and then he raised his arm, pointed, and said “You don’t think I know how to do my job? I’ve been doing this 56 years. When I give you a claim ticket, that means the bags are my responsibility.” We work in hospitality, and understand that it can be challenging sometimes serving the public, but we were only expressing concern, by asking a question, and were not given any reassurance or kindness or explanation by the bellman. Instead, he rebuked us. We would never talk to our customers this way. And we would not want our employees treating customers with such contempt and disdain. The front desk manager apologized to us. When we asked if this has happened before, the front desk manager admitted that there have been previous instances when the bellman was upset. We hope future guests do not have this kind of experience. We left feeling uneasy.

Upon arrival we were greeted by David, and he was very helpful. We were offered fresh water and cookies as well as being able to check in an hour and a half early. Our room is very spacious and clean the bed is very soft with fluffy pillows we have a beautiful view. I highly recommend stay here if you are here in San Francisco and want to experience Union square.

Perfectly located, good service, nice staff. Bed was on the soft side but good enough. Totally recommended if you wanna stay close to all the attractions in San Francisco... we arrived really early and the room was ready for us :)..........

We could not be happier after choosing and staying at the Chancellor Hotel. It is in the perfect location. Very short walk to to MUNI and bart stations and is directly in front of the Cable cars so easy to catch that is needed. Some people have stated the hotel is old... I personally didn't find this. Yes it's not 2024 modern, but it's got character. The room was spacious for a hotel in SF, it was VERY clean and the bed was soooooo comfy!! The view we had was amazing from the 15h floor! All the staff were so friendly, caring and helpful. There is coffee available in the lobby at all times. Each morning, cookies are available too. When we visit San Francisco again, the Chancellor Hotel is where we are staying. Thank you for an amazing stay!

On arrival the staff were not friendly or helpful at all in fact I would say they were rude. The location close to union square was great , nice big bathroom with a great bathtub for soaking after a few big days of walking. The worst softest bed I have ever slept in. We asked for firmer pillows as there was a pillow menu the same pillow was delivered twice as what was on the bed and the gentleman did not understand until we pointed to the menu that we wanted a firm pillow. Would not recommend this hotel when there are many to choose from

The Chancellor is in a fantastic location on Powell Street within a minutes walk of Union Square. There is no air conditioning here but they do have ceiling fans and opening windows. Can get a little noisy what with the cable car and traffic outside but worth the sacrifice to be in the heart of things. The cable car stops right outside the hotel and there is a good supply of taxis, including the Waymo driverless taxis nearby. There is a parking garage just a block up. Beware it is $40+ tax per night to park here. There are no other options though. It is easy to get your bearing an around the city and we found the Hop on Hop off luxury buses were great for this. Beware the Big Bus company gets busy when there is a cruise ship docked. The double room was small but had everything you could need. Bath/shower, tv, phone and good WiFi. There is no restaurant here as it closed in 2020. Coffee, tea, water, cookies and apples are always on offer in the reception area and there is a bar area for drinks. Staff were always helpful and rooms were clean.

Lovely accommodations located near Union Square. Lots of great restaurants nearby featuring food from a number of different cuisines. While all the staff was very friendly and helpful, we particularly enjoyed Alicia at the bar. She was a great resource for things to do and see. Thank you!
